Another full day had gone by and there was still no sign of anyone. Not until the sun was starting to go down. They heard it first before seeing it slowly appear. The ship had come back, hopefully with their people on it. Echo gathering everyone together.
"The ship has been back for awhile now and there's been no word. I think we need to take a closer look. Madi I want to get the rover just a bit closer but still out of sight in case we need a quick getaway, then stay with Griffin got it? The rest of us are going to take up positions and watch. When I say watch I mean only watch, we don't want to run in without knowing what's happening." Everyone nodded in agreement. Madi ran off to start the rover and move the few extra miles closer while everyone else walked. Griffin stayed in the rover with Madi and had light conversation with her about the things he learned in space and asking Madi what was true and what wasn't about their home. He was happy to have someone closer to his age, and she would say the same about him.
"Can we play later?" He asked her and she nodded absentmindedly, trying to focus on the path ahead.
As dark fell they took their positions around the area. Echo being the spy she was, she used her skills to get as close as she could to watch, the others not far behind but still able to see clearly what was happening from their positions. One of the first things she noticed was that only Clarke's mother Abby and Kane were walking off the ship, no one else. After more and more prisoners exited the ship they knew that something must have gone wrong. Bellamy or Clarke hadn't returned either.
They kept watching for another hour before she then noticed something in the distance, a figure lurking behind the ship before dashing away toward them. She moved behind cover and watched as it got closer. As her eyes adjusted she realized it was Murphy. If he was here, then it meant Raven had to be back down too. What happened to bring them down? Is that why they were gone so long because they had made a stop up in space to get the rest of their own people? There were many questions to ask but she knew that first they needed to catch Murphy.
As he started to run directly by her she let out a trill that stopped him dead in his tracks. As he looked around for the familiar sound she leapt out and covered his mouth with her hand, checking to make sure he wasn't followed.
"Don't make any more noise." She whispered.
As he pulled her off she continued making sure they were safe as he let out a breath of relief.
"Raven knew you guys would be watching the camp. We gotta go, now."
Once satisfied that it was only him she let out three short whistles to signal the others that it was safe to come out. Everyone moved out of their spots and gathered around.
"Where's Raven?" Emori asked relieved to see him, even if she was still upset with him.
"She's still there." He panted out.
"You left her? Why am I not surprised" Emori whispered angrily.
"Look, she made a deal to get me out."
Monty took a step closer as he realized that Murphy had something around his neck.
"Shock collar?" He asked as he reached out for it but Murphy stopped him telling him it was a bad idea to touch it.
"What about Abby and Kane? We saw them being led off the ship." Harper asked moving the interrogation along.
"You did?" Murphy asked confused, confirming that they had been separated from them.
"Must mean Bellamy got the bunker open. Did he not come back?" Echo asked.
Madi marched over, "What about Clarke?". Murphy asked who she was before getting back on track and telling them that they needed to get a warning to Bellamy and the others, mentioning that the enemy had missiles and were watching the bunker.
"Missiles?" Monty asked.
"Yea as in fiery death from above." Murphy confirmed, all sharing worried looks. "Raven said we need to get into radio range. Where's the rover?"
"Bear cave" Madi said starting to walk, "I'll drive."
Having a new plan they all started toward the cave to the rover. Murphy giving any extra details he could, like the pilot who helped him get away. It didn't take too long a run since Echo had told her to keep it close. They threw open the doors, piled in, and took off as quickly as they could.
"Murphy!" Griffin cried out happily seeing the man get into the front seat.
Part of Murphy was glad to see the kid safe and sound as he turned to look at the boy, but wished that there was a more safe place for him to be instead of getting dragged alongside this mess that was beginning.
"Hey kid. We'll catch up later." He said before going to the radio that Monty set up, and tried reaching Bellamy but failed as nothing seemed to come through. He noticed Madi staring at him which started to annoy him.
"What?" He asked plain and rude. She simply shrugged her shoulders at him before looking back to the road. "Thought you'd be funnier." Was all she said.
"Clarke told her stories." Monty explained causing Murphy to lighten up just slightly. "Oh really? Was I the dashing hero who got the girl?" He asked in an almost sarcastic tone.
"Or the selfish fool who lost her." Emori chimed in giving him a look.
Madi then went on to explain how Octavia was her favorite for helping all of them survive.
As the drive became silent again it was interrupted by a zapping noise and Murphy suddenly seizing in pain. The collar had activated and was currently shocking him. Madi stopped the rover so they could assess him as he continued to shake. Monty moved forward to look as he shined his flashlight to get a better look.
"It must have a proximity tether. Madi, back up!" He shouted at the girl, hoping he was right.
She did as told and reversed a few good meters before finally the zapping stopped and Murphy went still.
"Monty can you get it off?" Harper asked while Echo told them there was no time for this and that they needed to work on stopping the missiles.
Murphy then reached for the door handle and opened it ready to hop out.
"What are you doing?"
"Echo's right you don't have time. Just leave me behind." He said, Griffin giving a shout of denial at losing his friend again.
"No way, if it has a tether, then it'll have a tracker too." Monty suggested trying to keep him with them. "They're probably on their way right now."
"Which means you gotta go." Murphy argued wasting no more time as he hopped out. They all took a second to give their silent goodbye before Madi put the rover back in drive and took off, but not before Emori climbed out of the back to stay with him.
"'Mori no!" Griffin cried trying to reach for her but it was no luck as they took off.
"Shh..It'll be ok, she'll keep him safe." Echo said as she rubbed her hand up and down his back comforting him as he tried his best not to cry, and more so the rest of them as the reality of the situation just became worse.
"Monty, keep trying for Bellamy." Echo asked and without hesitation Monty flew into the front seat and grabbed at the radio, hoping that as they kept driving the signal would get better.
"Bellamy come in, Bellamy do you copy?" He tried and still no response.
"Bellamy come in, please if you can hear me this is an emergency." He waited again and was about to try once more when static started and then a voice came in.
Monty it's me, something tells me we got your emergency beat. His voice came through and relief flooded them all at hearing his voice.
"I doubt that, the prisoners have an eye in the sky on the mothership, and a missile system on their transport ship." Monty explained. "They're on their way to you right now you have to move!"
How are we supposed to do that? Bellamy asked.
"Murphy says we have a friend on the inside. If he's right, the eye won't be watching. You have a window but you have to move now."
The radio went silent again and they prayed he had heard them and were taking cover.
"If Murphy said the eye saw them on the move, how far would they be by now?" Echo asked Madi.
"It depends, if they've been traveling far then they would be in the desert by now. But it's sandstorm season." She offered, wondering if they would be that dumb to try and travel in it.
"Something tells me they don't care. Let's keep going and hope we meet them halfway." Echo said rerouting them.
"How long until we would reach them?" Harper asked.
Madi thought for a minute as she remembered the trips she would take with Clarke in the beginning when they tried to dig out the bunker together. "The shortest route to the bunker is about seven days on foot. But with the rover its at least two sometimes three. It will most likely be morning by the time we see anyone." She offered, giving slight hope of seeing Bellamy and the others again.
Nobody slept as they drove through the night. Rough winds and sand batting against the Rover as they drove, windows up and protected the best they could. Driving through the vast nothingness of sand almost made time drag on longer than they believed had passed. But hope came as the sun slowly started to rise, and the winds began to die down.
Another hour had passed before they were finally able to see something in the distance. People. Madi charged forward pushing down on the gas, Clarke being the only thing on her mind and how badly she wanted to see her. After six years together they were hardly ever apart for this long, and although she considered herself older she still was just a child and it scared Madi thinking of not being with her.
People turned and watched as the rover pulled in to a stop, some holding their weapons unsure if they were with the prisoners or not. But as Madi jumped out and ran toward them, they knew better and lowered the guns before returning to their duties of preparing to leave, some still lingering as they watched. Madi hadn't even noticed them as her eyes were fixed on Clarke who closed the distance between them and picked her up in a long and loving hug.
Monty and Harper were next to exit the vehicle, his eyes scanning the people before landing on Octavia. Her appearance surprising him a bit as all he could do was awkwardly hold up his hand in a 'hey' gesture. One that she returned as she tried to process the idea that she was seeing him again just like her brother after six years of being underground.
But the moment was short lived as she watched what happened next. A little boy jumping out and screaming "Daddy!" before running toward Bellamy. Echo close behind him. Bellamy was quick to run over and lifted Griffin into his arms, holding him tightly and kissing the top of his messy head as he waited for Echo and wrapped his other arm around her and kissed her as well, holding them close as he felt relief wash over him at seeing them all safe. His family. The moment would slowly start to feel short lived though as Echo glanced over to Octavia with worried eyes and watching as her gaze turned from one of surprise into disdain.
There was a lot of catching up to do.
