While some took the offer of being driven back to the bunker, the rest chose to walk back. Octavia included. As the majority of the injured were brought back all of Wonkru began setting up tents and operations around the area as they started to work on new orders and be ready for Blodreina. The new name Bellamy had told them all about, and gave a short recap of what he saw when they first opened the bunker, as well as the prisoners who were being led by Colonel Diyoza.
"Sounds like a nightmare" Harper shared her thoughts, just thinking of what could've been different for them if they had been part of Wonkru when Praimfaya hit. But it was a thought Monty was glad to not think on as he unloaded their supplies to their own little tented area they were given.
They were about to discuss their own plans when they noticed Octavia make her way topside, a new bandage on her arm. Hearing about the sandstorm and worms that attacked them it was lucky that there hadn't been worse casualties. Looking around she began to walk amongst the dispersed crowds, some sticking to certain groups while others mingled freely. She was followed by armed guards and Cooper, someone they recognized from the Ark, who was speaking to her as they walked.
Bellamy looked to Echo, "You ready?" he asked knowing sooner than later they would have to talk with her and discuss the inevitable, and seeing how she had tried and failed earlier to speak with Octavia, this was now considered later. They just hoped she would be willing to talk, to try and move on from the past just as he did. But knowing that Octavia wanted to march on the valley as soon as possible, this would be the best if not only chance they had.
"Ready to meet your Aunt? C'mon" He said to Griffin and took his hand as they started walking over to her. Hearing the end of Cooper's sentence about something happening again unless she took control.
As they walked a light sprinkle of rain started to fall. "Octavia.." Bellamy began as he swept a piece of hair out of his face. Griffin grew nervous and moved to stand behind his dad. Echo stayed as confident as she could beside him as Octavia looked between the two.
"Glad to see you back on your feet." He started, "She tried to get in to see you earlier, but they wouldn't let-"
"What is she doing here?" Octavia interrupted.
"I just wanted to thank you for saving my people." Echo said herself.
"They're not your people." She interrupted again. "Azgeda is a memory. There is only Wonkru, and there is no place in it for you."
"Look I know you two have history.." Bellamy interjected. "But Echo is on our side, she proved herself dozens of times on the ring. Plus, we hoped you would be interested in meeting your Nephew."
Bellamy turned slightly to reveal the small face peeking around him. It caught Octavia off guard as she remembered seeing the child earlier in the day who had called him 'daddy' and leapt into his arms. Bellamy helped coax him forward, a miniature version of him she noted as she saw the similarities between them.
"Say hi it's ok." He encouraged as the boy finally shuffled out from behind him. "Griffin this is your Aunt Octavia. Octavia, this is your nephew Griffin" Griffin looked up at her with a shy smile.
"H-hello Aunt Octava." He said to the best of his ability, her name just a bit too hard to pronounce.
Looking down at him she wanted to smile back and accept him. To feel proud of her big brother. But her mind could only flash to Echo, shoving a sword through her stomach. To the multiple times she had betrayed them all. And she still wasn't ready to forgive that.
Her features hardened as she looked back at Bellamy and Echo. "This isn't the Ring."
She turned to the side as she addressed everyone in the camp, her voice loud and clear. "Wonkru, I banished this murderer from the bunker six years ago. My judgment still stands." Everyone stopped as they listened and watched.
"O.." Bellamy started.
"She has 24 hours. If she's still here by then, she fights in the arena." With nothing left to say she shoved her way between them and walked off to finish making plans of their movement to the Valley. Bellamy feeling betrayed as Echo just watched on with guilt knowing more or less this would be the reaction.
Bellamy put a hand on her shoulder before going off to follow his sister. Griffin watched confused before turning to his mom, "Did I do something wrong?"
Echo's heart broke for her son who thought her behavior was because of him. She wrapped her arm around him and knelt down as she looked him straight in the eyes, speaking soft but firm. "No, you did nothing wrong okay? I'm the one she's upset with." She tried to explain in a way that he would understand.
"Mom did some bad things in the past. Long before you were born." She told him not wanting to lie but not quite telling the full truth to a child.
"Does that mean you get a time-out? Like I did back home?" He asked causing her to smile at his innocence.
"Something like that. Let's go help Monty and Harper." She offered hoping it would keep him busy for awhile as she tried to think of what she would do.
Meanwhile Bellamy chased down his sister, needing her to see his side and let go of whatever she felt for Echo.
"Octavia." No reply.
"Octavia stop." He shouted as he watched her continue to walk away. "It was six years ago, you just can't cast her out! She won't survive."
With the light rain continuing to fall they would have easily assumed the loud rumble they heard was thunder. But barely a second later and a horn sounded, alerting them that something was inbound. Looking to the sky everyone saw a ship in the distance that was steadily making its way closer and closer.
Assuming it was Diyoza coming to finish them off again, everyone started to run off as they were ordered to take shelter.
"Bellamy. Bellamy get in the bunker." Octavia demanded wanting to keep her brother safe in case they really were under attack.
Instead she watched as he simply shook his head and started walking away. "Not without my family."
He had ran back the rest of the way looking around for any signs of them. "Echo!"
"Bellamy!" He heard to the side and saw her holding Griffin as they took shelter in the remains of a destroyed building. He ran over to them and put a protective arm around them both as they stared up at the sky and watched as parachutes began falling from the ship that had now disapeared. Looking closer they could see some kind of crate was attached to them. At least seven.
Slowly they descended, all landing in different areas. As the closest one touched down they watched curiously. Those that had run were now gathering around to see what it was. The moment it touched down the side of it detached and opened, showing food toppling out from inside. The speaker that was attached to the top of it coming to life and Diyoza's voice echoing throughout the camp.
People of Wonkru, this is Colonel Diyoza offering you a chance for peace. I know you all suffered, I know your hungry. And so many of you are weary of Octavia's rule. But now you have a choice. Abandon your weapons, leave Wonkru behind and join us in Shallow Valley. We have plenty of food and shelter for those seeking a better life.
"She's recruiting." Echo said finally piecing together what it all meant. She had to admit it was a smart tactic, and would be interested in seeing Octavia's countermove.
When our ship returns tonight, head for the wastelands. Anyone waiting for us outside the ruins will be rescued. But come unarmed. If Octavia attacks our ship, we will retaliate against your city with lethal force. We're watching everything, always. There is a place in the Valley for all of us, so please choose wisely.
Octavia had heard enough and they all watched as she grabbed a nearby weapon and swung at the speaker knocking it off the top of the crate. But the message continued as it fell to the ground. Only when the message was over did it go quiet.
Octavia was quick to have guards put on all of the food that had been dropped. If they were being watched then she wanted to see that she wouldn't get to them so easily. They were also given strict orders to report to her on anyone who tried to approach and take any food. She gathered her best people to the war room to begin discussing their plan.
Bellamy made sure everyone was alright, Monty and Harper joining them after seeing what had just happened. They knew they needed to help come up with a solution that didn't involve full on war. If there was any chance of peace and getting themselves to the Valley safely, they needed to offer any help they could. Monty thought over some ideas with the radio they used.
It was good enough for Bellamy as he discussed going to talk to Octavia and seeing what they could do. He had Echo stay with Griffin, knowing that after what just happened and the threat she made earlier, it was best for her to keep some distance.
Echo agreed knowing he was right and took Griffin back to their tent, getting him settled on top of a sleeping mat and letting him take a nap. She was surprised such a tiny body was able to be awake as long as he was. She wished she could get some rest herself, but knew she needed to stay awake in case any other surprises showed up.
Meanwhile, after discussing with everyone in the war room about Monty being able to blind the eye they have in the sky watching them so they can safely make their way to the Valley, Bellamy knew he needed to talk with his sister. After seeing her give the order of shooting defectors on sight, he knew something had changed in her. She wasn't the same as he once knew her.
He stood outside the doorway of the room he followed her too and listened to her train with Cooper. Regaining her strength as her arm healed from the worm that was pulled out of it. Swords clashing as she sparred.
"I told you not to go easy." She told Cooper.
"Maybe you should fight someone who's not afraid of you." Bellamy piped up showing his presence. They both looked to him as he took off his jacket, Octavia telling Cooper to give him her sword. Cooper obliged and wished him luck before taking her leave to go stand post and watch as Octavia had instructed her to do earlier.
He tested the weight of the sword in his hand before taking a stance in front of her, watching closely and waiting for her to make the first move. As she lunged forward he stepped back and dodged the first slash as swords clashed. Both swords meeting a few times as he pushed back, giving his own swings at her causing her to duck as he rushed forward then swung around to face her again.
"You fight like Azgeda." She noted in a harsh tone, no doubt moves he learned from Echo.
"Not alot to do in space for six years, picked up a few things." He countered, knowing she wouldn't care to hear of his other hobbies.
They traded a few more swings toward each other before he shoved her back again, getting straight to the point of why he was even here.
"Lets get something straight. If Echo leaves, I am going with her."
Octavia didn't like that answer as she charged at him again, being blocked before she quick turned and jabbed her elbow into his stomach causing him to step back as he took a second to regain himself, her back now turned to him.
"She is not your enemy. You don't even know her." He moved closer to her causing her to turn and look at him angrily.
"I know what she's done." She started as she then recounted all of her betrayals and struck her sword at him each time. "Gina at Mount Weather" Clang "Ilian in the Conclave" Clang "Me on that damn cliff!"
Bellamy caught her sword in the final strike and using the momentum from throwing her off he was able to unbalance her, gave a quick strike to her side with the flat end of his sword, then slid forward onto his legs and swept hers out from under her bringing her flat on her back knocking the wind out of her and making her take the moment to catch her breath.
She stayed on her back as she watched him stand up, "We all have things to answer for. Things that shouldn't be forgiven but are." He told her looking down at her. "Because we did them for our people, our family. Echo is no different. She was an Azgeda spy, but now she's with me. The mother of my child and I will not send her away from him. I'm trying very hard to understand who you are now compared to who you were six years ago. All I'm asking is for you to do the same."
Once he was done with his lecture he let the sword fall to the ground and walked out, leaving her on the floor to her thoughts.
As he walked back, he took a moment to relax and compose himself before going inside. Echo was quick to turn around and put a finger to her lips in a Shh motion, before looking over to the cot that Griffin was sleeping on. He simply nodded before speaking to her in a quiet tone.
"We need to pack our things. When that ship comes tonight, we're leaving." He said causing her to frown in confusion.
"What do you mean? What happened?" She asked wondering what he could have said or done to make things worse.
He just shook his head. "Nothing happened, that's the thing. She won't even consider the idea that you had changed. If anything she's the one who's changed. Seeing her back there, she's a completely different person."
"Well we don't know what happened in that bunker all these years." She offered. "Who could say we are even the same people? But that doesn't mean your leaving with me. You have to take care of Griffin."
"Like Hell I'm not. We survive together, all of us, like always." He came up behind her as she was packing her own items.
She didn't miss it when he had said all of us. Turning her head to glance at him, "Monty and Harper are coming too?"
"Yes."
"No" She said more sternly. Even though they were family and willing to leave with her, she wouldn't let them sacrifice their own safety just for her. It was a risk she wasn't willing to take.
Bellamy sighed ready to argue with her more but she cut him off placing her hands on his shoulders, "You are not dying for me, and neither are they." She said emphasizing her point the best she could. "Even if she's changed, your sister needs you here. She's fighting an enemy she can't beat. Now Diyoza is using the fact that her people know it to pull them apart."
As she finished that last sentence the flap of their tent pulled open and Octavia marched in, eyes set straight on Echo. "So what would you do about it, spy?"
Echo held her gaze for a moment, not entirely happy at the name she was called but she took it as progress none the less at finally being talked to.
"The truth? Surrender. Only a fool fights a war they can't win." She offered her advice, taking moments from her training with Queen Nia in the past. If only Nia had applied those words to her own battles then maybe she wouldn't have been killed by Lexa so easily. A time that felt like forever ago now.
"I've got a better idea." Octavia started, a hint of a devilish smile on her lips. "Spy for me."
Echo and Bellamy shared a look as they listened to what she was offering.
"When that ship comes back tonight, people will try to defect and I can't let that happen."
"Octavia that is not what I meant." Bellamy interrupted not seeing how this would help.
"No, but it's smart." Echo told him truthfully. "If no one goes for the ship, Diyoza will think Wonkru is still unified. She'll lose faith in Kane."
Bellamy tried his best to think on the positive side. "What happens to the people she turns in?"
Octavia only answered him with a look that she knew he didn't like, before turning her attention back to Echo.
"Root out the traitors, bring me their names before they defect. And your banishment is lifted."
