Chapter One
Author's Note: Well, I am back guys. This is is going to be a very different story. I do not own any of J.K Rowlings' original characters. However, I will be adding some characters here and there will be a few, so if you get confused,feel free to send me a message me. Please Read and Review and enjoy Chapter One!
Halloween Night
Godric's Hollow
On this warm night, several hours after the children had finished their trick-or-treating, a woman was walking along the quiet streets. She was tall, brown-haired and had beautiful hazel eyes. She was Jennifer Black [formerly Potter] and she was along the streets after having a terrible feeling in the pit of her stomach about her twin brother, James, and his young family. She stood in front of the the modest cottage that her brother and his family called home.
Suddenly, she saw bright lights fill the living room and she heard a mother of two pulled her wand out and ran into the cottage , without hesitation. As she entered the house, she saw her twin brother on the floor, screaming in pain. Over his screaming form, were Rodolphus Lestrange, his wife Bellatrix, his brother Rabastan and Barty Crouch, Jr.
Infuriated, Jennifer Stunned the three men, but Bellatrix put up more of a fight. The two witches battled and dueled all over the living room. Bellatrix sent two Killing Curses at the twenty-one year old, but Jennifer was too quick and agile to fall at the hands of the Dark Witch.
Suddenly, Jennifer stood up from behind the sofa.
"Stupefy!" she yelled.
A jet of red light flew from her wand and hit Bellatrix square in her face.
Jennifer conjured ropes from her wand and tied all four people up, so they wouldn't escape. She ran to her brother and checked him. He was alive, but unconscious.
Suddenly, there was a loud booming noise, that came from upstairs.
Jennifer stood up, in alarm.
"Lily! Harry! Melanie!" she screamed.
She ran upstairs and was surprised to see smoke coming from her one year old nephew's nursery. She walked in, with her wand at the ready.
She looked at the remains of the crib and saw her nephew, Harry, sitting up. He was smiling at his aunt, but she noticed some blood coming from a tiny cut from his head.
She knelt down and caressed his chubby cheek.
"Hey, kiddo. Are you alright?" she asked.
Suddenly, she heard a moan and she grabbed her wand and looked behind her. She saw her sister-in-law, Lily Potter, under some rubble, what looked like the remains of Harry's bookshelf.
Harry began to crawl towards his injured mother.
"Ma." the fifteen month old boy called out.
Jennifer picked him and and checked Lily's condition. She was still alive, but Jennifer could tell that she needed some medical attention. Jennifer took her wand and made swishing movement and a white panther erupted from her wand and she whispered to it and it flew from the house.
Suddenly, she heard another cry, but it was coming from the master bedroom. Jennifer ran down the hall and walked into the room. Beside the bed was a bassinet that held the newest edition to the Potter Family. Lily had given birth to Melanie Lily Potter in this very room at the end of August. The two month old was a beautiful girl with Lily's auburn hair and James' hazel eyes.
Suddenly, a man's voice filled the room:
"How are the children, Jennifer?" it said.
Jennifer turned, with her wand at the ready and came face-to-face with her former headmaster, Professor Albus Dumbledore. He was in charge of Hogwarts of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
She sighed, in relief.
" Professor, thank you so much for coming." she said.
Professor Dumbledore nodded.
"Not a problem. Now I have James and Lily on stretchers downstairs and the Prisoners are tightly bound. Let's get everyone to Hospital.
St. Mungo's Hospital
Jennifer and Professor Dumbledore were waiting on the Healer who were attending James, Lily and Harry. Jennifer had sent a message to her husband,Sirius, to let him know what had transpired. Her husband and her husband were very best friends and she knew he would tell there other friend, Remus Lupin. Jennifer stood up and began to pace back and forth.
Professor Dumbledore,who was holding a sleeping Melanie, tried to calm his former student.
"Jennifer, please remain calm. You did wonderfully. You saved your brother and his family tonight."he said.
Jennifer looked at the older wizard.
"The point is,Professor, is that they needed saving. This shouldn't have were so careful. You said Voldemort wouldn't find them."she said, almost sounding angry.
Suddenly, a tall man with dark hair and piercing gray eyes walked in, followed by another tall man with lighter brown hair, dark green eyes and looking very tired walked in.
The dark-haired man walked up to Jennifer and kissed her.
"How are they, love?" he asked, worried.
Jennifer sighed.
"I haven't heard anything yet. Are Jamie and Selena alright?" she asked.
Sirius nodded. James, called Jamie for short, and Selena were Jennifer and Sirius' two children. Jamie was three years old and Selena was just a month older than her cousin Harry.
"They are fine, babe. What happened at Godric's Hollow? Why didn't you call me and Remus?" he asked.
The light-Brown haired man spoke then:
"Sirius is right. We would have been there." he said.
Jennifer nodded. She had known Remus since they were first years in Hogwarts and she had been married to Sirius over three years.
Suddenly, Professor Dumbledore walked up and handed sleeping Melanie to Remus.
"The Healers have said that James and Lily will make a full recovery. James will be sore for several days and Lily has a concussion and two broken ribs. Both of them have been given Sleeping Draught and will be sleeping the remainder of the night. Now Harry...he is stable and will be out soon, but that cut on his forehead isn't natural. It is a wound that is the result of a curse. Lily said she saw Voldemort casts the Killing Curse on Harry, before she lost consciousness. She even said it under the effects of the Truth Potion." he said.
Sirius gave a look of shock.
"The Killing Curse? How is he alive?" he asked.
Jennifer gasped.
"The Prophecy! Voldemort has marked Harry as his equal." she said.
Sirius sighed.
"Poor little tyke." he said.
Suddenly, Remus glared at Sirius.
"Did you betray them? How would anybody now where they are hiding? You were the Secret-Keeper." he said.
Jennifer shook her head.
"No, Remus. The Secret-Keeper was changed to Peter. Sirius thought it would be too obvious if he were the Secret-Keeper, since he and James are known for being very close. Peter was the only choice, since he isn't well-known." she said, defending her husband.
Professor Dumbledore turned away from the young people. He could not believe that Peter Pettigrew, another one of their good friends, betrayed James and Lily.
Suddenly, Sirius yelled.
"I WILL KILL THAT DAMN RAT! HOW DARE HE BETRAY HIS FRIENDS LIKE THAT! THEY ALL COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED!" he shouted.
Jennifer grabbed him.
"Sweetheart, calm down. The important thing is that they survived. We will make Peter pay." she said.
Before Sirius could say anything else, a Healer came out, carrying little Harry.
"This little one is all patched up. Besides his scar, there's nothing wrong with him." she said.
Jennifer took her nephew and kissed his chubby cheek. Sirius ruffled the baby boys dark hair.
Professor Dumbledore turned toward the three adults.
"We will sort all of this out. Now, I have contacted the Molly Weasley. Do you all remember who she is?" he asked.
Jennifer nodded.
"I do. She's Fabian and Gideon Prewett's little sister. She was devastated when they died." she said.
Sirius nodded his head, remembering the two red-haired men who gave their lives against Voldemort's followers known as Death Eaters.
Suddenly, a red-haired woman, who was about thirty years of age, came into the waiting room, along with six young boys and carrying a baby girl. All had bright red hair.
"Albus, I am sorry. Arthur is working. I had to round up all of the children." the woman said.
Albus smiled.
"I understand, Molly. May I introduce you to Jennifer Black, Sirius Black and Remus Lupin?"he said.
Molly Weasley nodded at the three young adults. Then Dumbledore explained to her what had transpired at the Potter's that night. She was shocked that the most evil Dark Wizard could be beaten by a one year old boy. She even teared up, knowing that the War was over and her older brothers deaths weren't in vain.
Albus continued to talk to her.
"Now Molly, I need you to watch Harry and Melanie Potter for me. We all have work to do and James and Lily need to recover after tonight. I know that it is a hard task..."
Molly cut him off.
"Nonsense! Harry and Ron are already playing together and little Ginny and Melanie are the same age. I will guard them as if they were my own. Go and do what you needto do." she said.
Jennifer looked at her nephew and Molly's son, Ron,playing on the floor together. She knew the boys would be close friends.
"Molly, take care of them please. We love them." she said.
Molly took her hand, in comfort.
"I should take your two little ones as well. I believe your son are the same age as my twin boys and your little girl is Ron's age as well." she said.
Jennifer looked at Molly's twin three year old twins, Fred and George, who were bugging their five year old brother, Percy. She knew little James would feel right at home with the twins.
"Alright. Albus, she has my permission. Do you want me and Sirius to go after Peter?" she said.
Professor Dumbledore shook his head.
"No. The Ministry have been alerted to the events. You both have been given the assignments to search Lestrange Manor." he said.
Sirius rolled his eyes. Bellatrix Lestrange was his cousin and he hated her. However, since he and Jennifer were both Aurors, who catch Dark Wizards, it was their jobs to do so.
"Professor, I..." he started.
Jennifer stopped him.
"We are on it, Professor." she said, pulling her husband away.
As the couple walk away, Jennifer looks again at her nephew and niece. She sighs, knowing that they are safe.
Lestrange Manor
Sirius and Jennifer were patrolling the manor that belonged to his cousin and her husband, Rodolphus. Sirius was seriously disgusted at his cousin. He couldn't believe that he was related to her.
Jennifer walked up to her husband and rested her hand on his shoulder.
"Sweetheart?" she asked.
Sirius looked at his wife. He deeply loved her so much.
"I am alright, Jenny. I just want to hurry and get out of here." he said.
Jennifer smiled.
"We're almost done. I am going to search upstairs. Care to join me?" she asked.
Sirius nodded and walked up the stairs with his wife. Their wands were lit and the searched the upper floors efficiently. Jennifer walked down a hallway, away from her husband. She looked in each room and was careful to be about her senses. So far, she wasn't finding anything serious.
Suddenly, a little voice spoke out:
'Excuse me, who are you?" it asked.
Jennifer turned and faced the voice. She was shocked to see a little girl standing there,holding a doll close to her. The Auror in her was telling her to be aware. However, she was a mother to two small children and she couldn't help but kneel down and address the little girl.
"I'm Jennifer Black. I'm an Auror. What's your name, sweetheart?" she asked.
The little girl, looking almost scared,but answered:
"Saphira Elladora Lestrange." she said.
Jennifer looked at the little girl, in shock. This little girl had to be the daughter of Rodolphus and Bellatrix Lestrange. This little girl was now almost an orphan, since her parents were almost guaranteed to be sentenced to life in Azkaban Prison.
Jennifer smiled at the little girl.
"Nice to meet you, Saphira." she said, kindly.
Saphira smiled at Jennifer.
Sirius caught up with his wife.
"There you are, Jenny. We are ready to wrap up."he said.
Suddenly, he saw little Saphira and he immediately knew who she was. The little girl was the spitting image of his cousin with her long dark brown hair, brown eyes and fair skin. However, he didn't sense any evil in the little girl.
He knelt down.
"Hey, little one. I'm your cousin, Sirius." he said, with a smile.
Saphira smiled.
"Do you know where my Mummy and Daddy are?" she asked.
Sirius and Jennifer looked at each other. However, Jennifer was quick on her extended her hand.
"Come, sweetheart. We can discuss that later, ok?" she asked.
Little Saphira looked at her, with scared eyes, but she took her hand.
Moments later, Saphira was in the drawing room, playing with her doll. Sirius and Jennifer were in a corner, talking quietly.
Jennifer asked her husband:
"Did you know about her?" she asked.
Sirius nodded.
"My mother mentioned Bellatrix and Rodolphus having a little girl. We were in our fifth year then. I remember she was born at the end of November, so she's almost six now." he said.
Jennifer nodded.
"What are we going to do with her?" she asked.
Sirius sighed.
"Well, Rodolphus and Rabastan's parents are both dead. Bellatrix's father, Uncle Cyngus, is still alive. His wife died last year from...Dragon Pox." he said, quietly.
Jennifer sighed. She and James had lost their parents, Charlus and Elizabeth Potter,to Dragon Pox shortly after James and Lily were married two years ago. It still hurt her, since they died just days apart.
Sirius continued.
"You already know that Bellatrix has two sisters. Andromeda was disowned after marrying a Muggle-born named Edward Tonks. They've been married about ten years now and have a little girl. They don't have much, but they have love." he said.
Jennifer rolled her eyes.
"Sirius, I know Andie and Ted. She's your favorite cousin and the only one who came to our wedding." she said.
Sirius smiled.
"Then there's Narcissa. She's married to Lucius Malfoy and has a one year old son, Draco." he said.
Jennifer sighed and looked at the innocent little girl.
"Do you think Andromeda and Ted would take her? I know that Andromeda is estranged from the family, but I can't stomach giving that beautiful child to the Malfoys or your uncle." she said.
Sirius smiled.
"Let's go and ask her." he said.
Jennifer smiled and went to pick up Saphira and go to the Tonks' residence.
Tonks Residence
Jennifer and Sirius walked up to Sirius' cousins home. It was a simple two floor cottage. Since Andromeda was disowned by her and Sirius wealthy family, she and Edward Tonks did not have alot of money to spare, like her sisters did. Jennifer was worried that Andromeda and Edward would say no, because they already had a daughter to support.
Sirius made it to the front door and knocked on the door a few times. Suddenly, a man with dark blonde hair and a pleasant disposition opened the door and he smiled.
"Sirius! Jenny! Get in here! Dromeda, look who's here." he said, as he hugged them both.
Out of the kitchen, a tall, beautiful brown-haired woman of twenty-eight walked in and smiled.
"Sirius, what are you doing here? it's been so long." she said, as she hugged her younger cousin.
She saw Jennifer and hugged her as well. While hugging her, she noticed that Jennifer was holding Saphira by the hand.
Andromeda looked at her.
"Who's this little angel? Surely she isn't little Selena." she said.
Jennifer shook her head.
"Andie, we need to talk to you." she said.
Suddenly, a little girl who was about eight years old ran down the stairs. She had long mousy brown hair.
She smiled at Sirius, with her two front teeth missing.
"Siri! I missed you." she said, hugging him around the waist.
Sirius smiled.
"Nice to see you too, Nymphadora." he said.
The little girl frowned, but noticed Saphira and smiled at the younger little girl.
"Hi, I'm Nymphadora, but call me Tonks or Dora. What's your name?" she asked.
Saphira shyly answered.
"Saphira." she said.
Nymphadora smiled again.
"What's your favorite color?" she asked.
Saphira gave a small smile.
"I like purple." she said.
Nymphadora closed her eyes and suddenly her brown hair turned to a shade of purple.
Saphira eyes lit up, in amazement.
Andromeda spoke up.
"Nymphadora, why don't you take Saphira to your room, while Mummy and Daddy talk to Cousin Sirius and Jennifer, alright?" she said.
Nymphadora and took Saphira by the end and the two little girls ran upstairs, happily.
Andromeda, Edward, Sirius and Jennifer all sat down.
Andromeda sighed.
"Are you two going to tell us who she was?" she asked.
Sirius nodded.
"She's your niece, Andie. She's Bellatrix's daughter." he said.
Andromeda nodded.
"I knew it. She looks so much like her." she said.
Edward Tonks looked at his wife.
"Actually Dromeda, she looks like you, in my opinion." he said.
Andromeda smiled and took his hand.
"Has something happened to Bellatrix and her husband?" she asked.
Jennifer nodded.
"They are going to Azkaban. They tortured some of our colleagues, the Longbottoms, into insanity and attacked my brother and his family with Voldemort." she said.
Andromeda and Ted shuddered in fear. Most of the Wizarding world hated hearing the name.
Sirius continued to talk.
"Andie, we brought Saphira to you, hoping that you would take her. We don't want the Malfoys taking her and we highly doubt your father wants to raise her anyway. She deserves a loving family. I know that you told me before you don't want more children, but it's either you or the orphanage." he said.
Andromeda looked at her husband. She stood up and walked to the nearest window. She was saddened at the fact that her only niece was going to face the same face she did by her family: Abandonment.
Edward stood up and walked over to his wife.
"Sweetie, we can manage having two daughters. I can still provide for us. Dora will love having a little sister." he said.
Andromeda looked at her husband and then her cousin and his wife.
"She will be from now on Saphira Tonks.' she said, matter-of-factly.
Sirius and Jennifer smiled. They were so happy. Voldemort was gone, their nephew was a hero and now this little girl would have a good family.
A/N This is my first chapter in this story! I will admit I am used to writing Historical Fanfiction, but I am a die hard Harry Potter fan and I have had an idea for this story for sometime. There will be some different characters and changes to the Story, so I am hoping that you all will enjoy the story nonetheless. The next chapter will be when Harry Potter is heading to Hogwarts.
