Letters From Someone
A tall, white bearded man made his way up a small stone pathway, towards a quaint country home, settled in a small valley village. The man donned long lavender robes, that blew in the spring breeze around him.
His journey today was an important one. Potentially one of the most important he had ever made as headmaster of Hogwarts.
The man approached the charming home, knocking once he reached the front door.
The woman who answered, had clearly been expecting the strange visitor. While most people who lived on that street certainly would have done a double take upon seeing the man, however, this woman looked expectant.
"Mr Dumbledore, please come inside." The woman said, motioning for him to enter.
Standing in the entrance behind the woman was a tall sandy brown haired man.
"Hello." The man greeted Dumbledore. "I'm Lyall, and this is my wife Hope."
"It's a pleasure, you have a lovely home." Dumbledore exclaimed happily, following the couple into their sitting room.
Upon entering, the tall man noticed a skinny pale young boy sitting in an over sized chair. The boy was playing against himself in chess. Dumbledore surveyed the boy closely, the boy was very good at chess.
"Could I play?" Dumbledore inquired.
The young boy looked up at the old man, and smiled slightly before agreeing.
"I-I'm Remus." Said the boy quietly, while Dumbledore made his move.
" it's nice to meet you Remus. I'm Albus Dumbledore."
Remus gave the man a small smile before moving one of his chess pieces into position.
From the kitchen Remus' parents watched as he played with his future Headmaster.
"Do you know why I've come to visit you today, Remus?" Asked Dumbledore.
Remus didn't respond but nodded his head shyly.
"Remus." His father gently scolded him.
Dumbledore chuckled jovially at this, putting his hands together.
"It's quite alright, some of the best wizards I've met have been on the shyer side.." Dumbledore said with a twinkle in his eye.
Lyall smiled and nodded, but still stared expectantly at his son.
Remus knew he should say something to the man.
"It's because I'm- I'm a werewolf." Remus said in the smallest voice possibly.
"Yes. That is why I'm here. And Because I want to make sure that doesn't stop you from going to Hogwarts this fall." Dumbledore replied.
"Would you like that Remus?" His father asked.
"Y-Yes, I would. But I don't want the other-." Remus stopped mid sentence.
"You don't want the other students to know?" Dumbledore clarified.
Remus nodded sadly.
At this Lyall came over and patted his son on his back. "It's okay son."
"There's been some nasty incidents with other people finding out about Remus' condition. We've had to move a few times." Lyall said, more to Dumbledore than to his son.
"I understand." Dumbledore replied immediately.
" I think it would be best if the other students didn't know too." Dumbledore assured the small boy his secret would be safe with him.
Remus seemed more calm at this statement.
"We are going to employ all the safety measures we have to keep you safe at the full moon. and we have a wonderful new nurse who already knows all about your condition and is ready to help in anyway she can. We are both very prepared to help keep your secret hidden Remus if that's what you want."
"S-so just you two will know, then?" Remus asked hesitantly.
"Yes, just myself, and madame Pomfrey. as well as your head of house once your sorted into your house at school."
Remus nodded, feeling slightly more secure than before.
"Is there anything you'd like to ask me Remus." Dumbledore asked.
Remus paused for a moment then spoke.
"What will we tell the other students, y-you know if they ask where I go every month." Remus said sadly.
"We can help you come up with cover stories Son." His father assured him.
"Absolutely! "I love a good tall tale myself. " Dumbledore agreed happily.
"And, After you get to school I'll collect you at some point and walk you through everything that will happen on the full moons. So hopefully that way you will feel more secure about it."
Remus nodded, "thank you Professor Dumbledore."
"Of course." He replied.
"Checkmate." Remus said. Finishing the game.
"Well, would you look at that. You beat me fair and square.." Dumbledore said, leaning back in his chair to survey the board.
Remus smiled. He was pretty sure his future headmaster had let him win, but he was just thankful he had someone else to play with for a change.
"Oh, before I go I wanted to give you this. It's a few weeks early but I figured you'd like it." Dumbledore said, handing Remus a thick envelope from the inside pocket of his robes.
Remus broke out in a wide grin before ripping open the letter with the Hogwarts crest emboldened on the front.
Dear Mr Lupin,

Once Remus stopped reading he looked up, and both of his parents had tears in their eyes.
"We never thought I'd be able to do this." Remus said to Dumbledore sadly.
"Well, you are now my boy." Dumbledore told him, before getting up to leave.
"thank you, sir." Remus said.
Dumbledore smiled and nodded, before turning to leave.
Remus walked Dumbledore to the front door, but before he left Remus couldn't help but ask him something he had been wondering about.
"Sir"
"Yes, Remus?"
"Did you let me win at chess?" Remus asked.
Dumbledore smiled happily.
"Why, yes I did. What gave me away?" Dumbledore mused.
Remus was shocked by his honesty and smiled.
"Your too smart to loose to a kid, sir." Remus told him.
" perhaps." Dumbledore told him.
"You feel sorry for me." Remus said. The one thing he hated more than the judgement was the pitty.
Dumbledore noticed that this was a statement, not a question.
" Remus I did not let you win because I pity you, I let you win because sometimes our friends need to win more than we do."
Remus smiled at his headmaster again.
"Thank you, Sir. Again."
"no need to thank me, my boy! You just come to Hogwarts and learn and do your very best. And, you'll be one of the greats one day, just wait and see."
And with that, Dumbledore was off. Walking back down the cobblestone path from where he had come. And, with a "pop" he was gone.
(AN: Okay did you like this? no one ever does the marauders story from Remus' perspective, so I figured I'd give it a go.)
