When Love Burns

"Listen up, kids. We've got things to talk about." Izzy said as he and Tai were with the four kids at Izzy's place of work. They thought it was time that they knew a couple things since it seems like it can't be helped. They have to entrust the children with this fight, but it doesn't mean they can't help. "First, I think you kids should know that your digivices are capable of opening a gateway to the Digital World out of any computer."

"They can?" Natalie questioned.

"So? Traveling to the Digital World isn't exactly hard. Anyone can do it." Musuko said.

"It wasn't always like that. It took years of research from people like Izzy and Yolei to make what it is today." Tai said. "That's not saying much since the gates have been having trouble."

"However, your D-3s might be able to keep a gateway stable and open one up just like Davis and the others did before." Izzy said. "That will be helpful since you kids might need to travel to the Digital World once again."

"Wait. You're saying you want us to fight now?" Mason questioned. It did seem weird they had a chance since some of the parents were still a little unsure about this.

"Honestly, we don't like that you kids are fighting such dangerous enemies." Tai said. "At the same time, we knew a time like this might come. Now that both Musuko and Benson have Veemon and Patamon digivolve to the ultimate-level already, I don't think there is much we can do to stop you kids no matter how much we want to."

"That being said, the other thing we wanted to talk to you about was how your digimon were able to digivolve." Izzy said. "We were told you kids were able to utilize the power of the crests inherited from each of your parents. I understand you kids are looking to get stronger, but tapping into that power will help. I don't know much about the one Musuko has, but Benson was able to do it because his strong hope helped Patamon reach the ultimate-level. So, for Biyomon and Togemon to do that is for Natalie and Mason to use what your crests represent."

"Yeah... What?" Mason questioned as he didn't quite get it.

"We're saying that in order to get your digimon stronger, you need to find the power within. In order to find the power, you have to use what each of the crests you have stand for." Tai said. "Since Mason has the one of sincerity, he has to be sincere with himself and with others. Since Natalie's is love, she needs to draw the power from what she loves." It sounds simple, but the kids still aren't sure what they have to do that.

"Well, everyone loves you, Natalie. Does that count?" Biyomon asked.

"I don't think so." Natalie said as she needed to think about this.

"Excuse us! Hello!" That was when they all saw Mimi and Sora coming in with their own Palmon and Biyomon.

"I hope we're not interrupting." Sora said.

"Not at all. What are you doing here?" Izzy asked.

"I came to get Natalie. I did promise her I take her to the park today." Sora said.

"You're going to the park now, Natalie?" Benson questioned.

"Yeah. We might be saving the world, but I need to keep my soccer skills up." Natalie said as she and Biyomon were leaving, but this seemed like a bad time. "Don't worry. We can talk more about what we're going to do later." She said as the ladies were on their way out.

"Mason, we need to get going, too." Mimi said. "You've got to get ready for your big night."

"Oh yeah! I can't wait!" Mason said as he and his Palmon hurried off.

"Big night?" Tai questioned as he walked over. "What's going on?"

"Michael is actually going to be in town this weekend." Mimi said. "He said that since he's around, he would like to go on a small camping trip with the boys."

"That's great. Mason will get to see his Dad. It's been a while since Michael's been around." Tai said, but that was when he realized something. "Wait. Does that mean that Malcolm is going?"

"He didn't want to, but I managed to talk him into going. He and Mason are still rather close, and he cares a lot about him. He knows it would have meant a lot to Mason if they were all together." Mimi said. As good as that sounds, Mimi is still uneasy about it. She's just so worried about how her oldest is going to feel considering the situation. "Oh! Tai, I'm sorry. I'm sure you must feel uneasy about this since Malcolm is... Well..."

"No, no. It's fine." Tai said with things getting awkward between them.

"Mimi, we should go." Her Palmon reminded.

"Yeah. Bye, Tai...and everyone." Mimi said with her and Mason leaving. Tai felt so bad for Mimi. One thing happened between them and things spiraled out of control that affected a few lives. He wishes there was something he could do to help her, but Tai didn't exactly act like a father with Malcolm.

...

Natalie

Meanwhile, Sora and Natalie arrived at the park. Natalie really did want to practice her soccer skills, but she couldn't stop thinking about what they all talked about. In order for Natalie to have her Biyomon digivolve to ultimate, she needs the power of love. Sounds cheesy to her, but that's just how it is.

'Okay, if each of us have inherited our parents crests, and they are the key to digivolving, I need to tap into the one I have.' Natalie thought. 'Mine is the one of my mother's, the crest of love. That means I need love. Urgh... I'm starting to feel like one of those girly superheroes from anime.'

"Natalie? Are you okay?" Sora asked and snapped Natalie out of her thoughts.

"Yeah... Sorry, Mom." Natalie said. That was when it came to her. "Mom, you remember the crests you and the other grown-ups used? Yours was the one of love, right?"

"That's right." Sora said.

"How did you use it to get your Biyomon to digivolve?" Natalie questioned.

"I see..." Sora said. She felt the same way as the others about this, but she also understands it can't be stopped. "Well, I don't think I really did anything special. In the past, your grandmother and I had a rough relationship, but I soon realized that it was because she worried about me and loved me. Then, I just simply cried out my love for Biyomon and that's how she became Garudamon."

"It wasn't just then." Sora's Biyomon claimed. "I remember how much you cared about me that you put yourself in danger, even when I wasn't being so nice to you, and I digivolved into Phoenixmon."

"When you care about something and someone so much, and you're not afraid to show it, the crest of love will shine." Sora said.

"I think I get it, but I'm still not sure I really know how to use it." Natalie said. "All this love stuff just sounds so...girly to me. You know I'm not into that girly stuff."

"I know, but love comes in all kinds of forms." Sora said. "Anyway, I thought we came here to work on your soccer skills. I know how much you love that."

"Okay. I know you use to play. Let's see if you still got it." Natalie teased. "I bet designing all those outfits made you get rusty."

"Oh, you're going to get it now, young lady." Sora playfully claimed. Natalie and Sora took a soccer ball and kept kicking it around. Even both Biyomon got into it with all of them playing together. Natalie was really enjoying her time playing with her mother. Until...

"Help!" Natalie heard a faint call for help and ended up missing the soccer ball. She looked around and tried to see where that call came from.

"Natalie? What's wrong?" Sora asked.

"Didn't you hear it? Someone called for help." Natalie said, but Sora and the Biyomon didn't hear anything. All of a sudden, Natalie just took off and went looking for who cried out.

"Natalie! Wait!" Sora called as they all went after her. Natalie ran through the park and tried to find out who it was that called for help only to trip and fell to the ground. "Are you okay?!"

"I think so, but what did I trip over?" Natalie questioned. She looked and saw it was some sort of silky thread. "What's this thing?"

"If you think that's strange, look there." Biyomon said as they saw there were more, and it seemed to be getting worse the deeper it goes. Natalie knew she had to see where this went, but Sora grabbed her and stopped her.

"Mom, this could be something bad." Natalie said.

"I know..." Sora said, but she still didn't want her daughter to go in there. Something was really wrong about this. "We'll go in together. It's safer that way." Natalie agreed to that, so the two of them went on in. They stayed close together, but there appeared to be more and more webs the deeper they went. It was becoming rather creepy. "What is all of this?"

"Help us!" They all looked up and saw a bunch of digimon trapped in a giant web.

"I knew I heard someone cry out for help!" Natalie said.

"What is this?" Biyomon questioned. "It's like a jungle in here with the giant web of a giant spider." When Biyomon said that, Natalie knew who had to have been behind this. Just then, another set of threads came at them.

"Natalie, move!" Sora called as she pushed her out of the way, but Sora and her own Biyomon got caught in the threads and were thrown up in the air. Both of them were tossed right into the web and was now caught.

"No! Mom! Biyomon!" Natalie called.

"You should be more worried about yourself!" Suddenly, more threads came at her and her own Biyomon, but Biyomon wasn't going to let anything happened to Natalie.

"Biyomon digivolve to...Birdramon!"

Birdramon stood in the way of the threads and got tangled in them, but she ignited her feathers and burned away the threads. Natalie and Birdramon followed where the threads came from and spotted the one reponsible for all of this: Arukenimon.

"I knew it was you!" Natalie claimed. "What do you think you're doing?"

"Spreading chaos and disaster. That's exactly what I was made to do." Arukenimon said as she crawled around on her web. "What do you think of my little parlor? It seemed so nice and serene right here that I decided to make my new little home here, almost like a spider in the jungle just waiting for her prey to show up. It also looks like I caught some tasty flies." She said as she stood near Sora and her Biyomon, neither of them liking what Arukenimon was implying.

"No worries. I'll roast this bug and save them all." Birdramon said as she was getting ready to attack.

"Birdramon, don't! You can't attack Arukenimon while she's on that web! You might hurt all her captives!" Natalie warned. She was right. Any attack could end up harming all those she captured.

"You might not be able to attack, but I can!" Arukenimon claimed.

"Spider Thread!" Arukenimon shot out a different set of threads and used them like whips against Birdramon. All Birdramon could do was take the attacks.

'This is bad. That Arukenimon is a coward. There has to be a way to beat Arukenimon without hurting everyone.' Natalie thought as she tried to think of a way to do just that. She looked around to see how she could until she noticed something with the trees. A few branches were right over the web. What Natalie is thinking might be crazy, but she can't let those innocent digimon or her mother be captured. As for Birdramon, she took a few hard hits and yet was holding on.

"What's wrong? Why won't you fight back? Wait, you can't!" Arukenimon taunted. Birdramon hated this, but she can't risk hurting anyone. She needs a way to get Arukenimon off that web. "Let's see how you handle this."

"Acid Mist!" Arukenimon breathed out a cloud of acid against Birdramon and it was starting to burn against her. Birdramon cried out in pain and it wasn't looking good. Arukenimon thought she had Birdramon now.

"Now for that little girl." Arukenimon said. She set her sights on Natalie now, but there was no sign of Natalie anywhere. "Where'd she go?" Natalie managed to climb up a tree and was hanging off a branch right over Arukenimon. Then, she dropped straight down and landed right on that spider witch, trying to hurt her as she pulled on Arukenimon's hair and other means.

"Natalie! What are you doing?!" Sora called.

"Giving this spider witch the beating she deserves!" Natalie said as she kept trying to hurt Arukenimon.

"Quit it, you little brat!" Arukenimon complained as she tried to shake Natalie off.

"No way! You want to hurt all these digimon, not to mention the whole world! You caused so much harm for so long, and I'm not putting up with it!" Natalie said. "These digimon, my own mother, need help and I refuse to stand around and do nothing! I don't care how scary or dangerous you are!"

"Big mistake!" Arukenimon said. She managed to grab a hold of Natalie and toss her right off with Sora and Biyomon getting a good scare. However, Birdramon used her head, literally, and was able to catch Natalie before she hit the ground.

"Natalie, are you hurt?" Birdramon questioned.

"I'm fine. A lot more than she's going to be when we get through with her!" Natalie said as she was still willing to fight.

"Nothing's gonna stop you, will it? Why is that?" Arukenimon questioned.

"It's because I'm not going to let you hurt them or anyone." Natalie said as she stood firm. Seeing her daughter like this made Sora realize something.

"Natalie! Remember what I said about love coming in all forms?! About how you're not afraid to show it?!" Sora questioned. Natalie remembered and it now hit her. Natalie is doing what she's doing because she loves...everyone.

"Yeah..." Natalie said as she grabbed her digivice and tried to focus. 'My mom... All those digimon... I... I want to protect them all!' She thought as she tried to focus on that love, and it was working as her digivice had the crest appear on it and affected Birdramon.

"Birdramon digivolve to..." Birdramon began to digivolve as Natalie's love made her stronger, had her flames burn stronger. "Garudamon!"

Garudamon stood over the web and was now even stronger than before. Once she digivolved, she grabbed a hold of Arukenimon and tossed her off the web without any of her captives getting hurt. Arukenimon smashed against the ground and was in real trouble now as Garudamon stared down at it like a bird to feed on a spider.

"Natalie, I can feel your love. It's making me stronger." Garudamon said.

"So use it to crush that bug!" Natalie said.

"I don't think so!" Arukenimon countered as she tried to fight back. She shot threads at Garudamon and tried to hold her down. However, Garudamon ignited in flames and began to burn away the threads.

"Wing Blade!" Garudamon generated a firebird and unleashed it right on Arukenimon. It smashed right against her and Arukenimon was ignited in flames with her completely destroyed into data. That means another enemy was defeated, and it was by love's power. Cheesy, but it worked.

...

Later

After defeating Arukenimon, Natalie managed to call for help to have the fire department and such free all the digimon from Arukenimon's web. As soon as Sora and her Biyomon were down, she held her daughter and felt much pride.

"I am so proud of you, Natalie." Sora said. "What you did was dangerous, but you managed to tap into the crest's power."

"Yeah... I guess I did, and I still feel like myself. I don't feel all girly just because I used love." Natalie said.

"It's just as your mother said. Love comes in all forms, and your love was for everyone." Biyomon claimed. Natalie really is starting to get it. While Sora's love was for her friends and family, Natalie's love was for everyone equally. She cares so much about everyone, the world, and wants to do what she can to protect and help them all. It's that kind of love that will help her and her friends beat this evil.
