New Uniform, New Name, and a New Start

Here Danny was, in the middle of the Danger Room, with everyone else watching from the control room. The Institute teens thought this was Logan's way of getting back at Danny for the "scruffy dude" crack he made.

Professor Xavier spoke through the intercom to Danny, causing the ghost boy to look up.

"All right, Daniel. Do your best, and don't worry about holding back."

Upon Danny's nod, the systems went online. Various weaponry activated as most of them popped out of the walls, surprising him. The laser turrets begin firing at him as he did his best to dodge them as well as avoiding the large buzz saws that swung at him.

Inside the control room, Jack, Maddie, and Jazz were worried about Danny's safety.

"You don't suppose it will..." Jack began to ask.

Professor Xavier knew what he was going to ask as he said

"Fear not. We have programs that always run diagnostics. If something becomes too dangerous, the entire Danger Room automatically shuts down."

The Fenton family breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that the program has a built-in failsafe for Danny's safety.

Back in the Danger Room, a turret blasts the floor near Danny, causing him to trip from the shockwave of the impact.

"They said I can go all out? Fine." Danny thought as he got up before shouting his battle cry.

"I'm going ghost!"

Soon, Danny transforms to his phantom persona before taking to the air with his clenched fists charged with the energies of his ghost rays, ready to go on the offensive.

Everyone else in the control room watched as Danny immediately launched his counterattack as he began destroying the turrets and every other weapon, one by one. They were all amazed at Danny's progress.

"Whoa! Look at him go!" Kurt comments with impression.

"That's a cool catchphrase he's got. Has a good ring to it." Evan comments.

"Like, totally." Kitty said in agreement.

"Quite impressive." Scott comments as he too watched.

"I agree." Jean comments as well.

"Charles? What do you think?" Ororo asks.

"I must say that his control is quite remarkable." Professor Xavier states. "Clearly, Daniel knows what he's doing."

"He's got good aim, I'll admit." Logan says. "Even though he point shoots with his blasts."

The group watched Danny continue his attacks in the Danger Room. Nearly every single weapon was either destroyed or heavily damaged to the point of being inoperative. Suddenly, Danny became sandwiched by a trap as two steel walls closed on him in an instant.

Everybody, except for Logan, cringed at the sight of that before they saw Danny walking out of it, completely unharmed.

"How did he do that?!" Logan shouts in shock. "Can that kid manipulate his body or what?"

"In a way, yes." Jack answered.

"How so?" Ororo asks in curiosity.

"You know how we can get hurt here in this world?" Maddie asks before seeing Ororo nod. "Well, here, the ghosts are home free. The same goes for humans if they're in the Ghost Zone."

"Fascinating." Professor Xavier comments.

"I'll say." Ororo comments in agreement.

All the while, no one noticed how silent Rogue was. The goth girl had to admit that Danny was pretty impressive holding his own in the Danger Room. However, she was still questioning herself on how her powers didn't activate when she touched Danny when she and the others first encountered him. Then, she snapped out of her thoughts when the Danger Room deactivated.

"Wow. Like, he almost took out the whole place!" Kitty exclaims.

The damage was extensive. Blast craters riddled the walls and the floor of the Danger Room. There were a few heavily damaged turrets that had the laser cannons hung in suspension by a few wires but were bound to fall in any given moment. The rest of the weaponry was destroyed. In the middle, Danny was breathing heavily and had his hands on his knees, relieved that his session was finally over.

"Whoa! The place is a wreck!" Kurt comments as he sees the damage, just as the others.

Logan grumbled something before leaving the control room while Professor Xavier had an amused smile while watching the man walk away. Jack, Maddie, and Jazz were never so proud of Danny, seeing what he can do.

After Danny phases up to the control room, he transforms back to his human form as Jack, Maddie, and Jazz dogpile him with a hug.

"We're so proud of you." Maddie said after the hug broke.

"Well done, son!" Jack says with pride. "Always knew you had it in you."

"Dad's right, little brother." Jazz said in agreement.

The X-Men were amused, seeing the Fentons having a family moment. Then, the shutters open to reveal that Logan returned to the control room, carrying a sort of package with him. The man soon approached Danny as the ghost boy noticed before handing it to him.

"What's this?" he asks.

"Something you'll be needing." Logan said.

Curiously, Danny opened the package slowly to avoid damaging whatever it was inside. Upon fully opening it, he sees a uniform similar to what Scott and the others would wear. The uniform was black in color with light gray arm warmers and boots. The silver utility belt had a rectangular buckle branded with an "X" on the front. The triangular shoulder pads on the uniform were also silver in color and branded with the same "X" mark as well. The material of the uniform itself felt like it was spandex.

"From now on, whenever you're on missions or training sessions with us, you'll be wearing that." Logan explains.

"Hey, if he, like, gets his own uniform, does that mean he'll be with the X-Men instead of the new recruits we're getting soon?" Kitty asked.

"Depending on his performance, he will be." Logan asked while turning his sight back from Kitty to Danny.

"Plus, you will need a codename." Professor Xavier adds.

"Codename?" Danny asks in confusion.

"Yes." Professor Xavier replies. "You see, some of us go by a codename based on our gifts." he gestures to Scott. "For example, Scott chose the name "Cyclops" due to his optic blasts."

Danny understood at first before he asked

"What's wrong with me keeping my name, Danny Phantom?"

"Look, bub, I don't know how people in your old town are completely clueless about the similarities in your name." Logan said. "But here, it's only a matter of time before the dots are connected. When that happens, complicated problems will arise."

Maddie could sense the meaning in Logan's explanation as she said to her son

"Danny, Mr. Logan has a valid point. It would be a good choice to pick a codename when you're with them. This way, it'll be harder for people to put two and two together."

"I honestly agree with your mother." Jack adds.

Logan rose an eyebrow at Jack and Maddie in surprise, seeing them agree with him and voicing their opinion to Danny.

"Well, I'll need time to think of one." Danny said.

"Very well." Professor Xavier said. "Now, there is another matter to discuss."

"Um...what would that be, professor?" Danny asks in curiosity.

"How would you like to live here at the Institute." Professor Xavier answered.

Xavier's offer caused Danny to be silent. The boy was completely unsure if he should take the offer or not, especially since he and his family had fully settled in to their new home when they first arrived in Bayville. He was unaware that his parents and his sister were stunned silent as well when they heard Xavier offering Danny a place in the Institute, too.

Danny was completely torn on deciding what to do. On one hand, he didn't have to hide his secret from his parents anymore, now that they know what he is and they accepted him, on the other hand, he didn't want want to leave them as well, if he chose to accept the offer. The ghost boy felt like he needed some good advice and who better than to discuss it with his parents.

With that in mind, Danny handed Logan the uniform as he asked.

"Could you hold this for a minute?"

Logan nodded as he took the uniform from Danny before he turned to Xavier and said.

"Could you excuse us? We're going to need a minute."

Professor Xavier nodded as he replied,

"Of course."

All of the X-Men leave the control room to give the Fentons some privacy. After the shutter doors close, leaving the Fentons alone, Danny turns to his family.

"Danny?" Jack asks.

"Well, I'm very torn right now." Danny says in response. "I mean, I did not expect to be offered to live here in the Institute."

"Is this something that you want?" Maddie asks in curiosity.

"Well, I'm surprised that the Professor offered, but..." Danny hesitated for a minute. "I don't want to leave you all behind, either."

Jack and Maddie shed tears of joy as they felt pride about what they recently heard from their son. Even Jazz smiled before she asked.

"So, you want us to come with you, eh?"

"Yeah, but I have a few conditions to go over." Danny said.

"Name it." Jack said with a shrug.

"I am going to need full access to hunt the ghosts if they escape from the Ghost Zone, for starters." Danny said.

"About that." Maddie interrupts. "You are to be home by 11 in the evening. With school coming up, and with Mr. Logan's training sessions, you will need plenty of rest. Also, we'll take over in dealing with the ghosts while you're at school."

"Fair enough." Danny said with a shrug.

"Anything else?" Jack asks.

"Yeah. About forwarding the new address to Vlad, I would say not to do that." Danny states. "I don't think the Professor would want to risk the safety of everyone here."

Jack thought about it for a minute. Then, he said.

"You know, you're right. I'll just tell Vlad to meet somewhere in public instead."

Danny was silently relieved that his father won't give any intel on their whereabouts to his archenemy, as was Jazz. They didn't want Vlad to visit any time soon.

"Anything else?" Maddie asks.

"The final condition, I will need to discuss with the Professor." Danny replies.

"So, are we all in on this?" Jazz asks with a smirk.

"Absolutely." Danny said.

"Well then, son, better talk to the Professor." Jack suggests.

"Only with all of you present." Danny insists.

Jack, Maddie, and Jazz nod in response before Danny walked to the shutter doors, causing them to open. In an instant, all of the X-Men see him approaching with the rest of his family following him.

"So, have you decided?" Professor Xavier asked.

"I will accept the offer, professor." Danny said. "However," he turns to his family. "I want them to come with me as well."

Professor Xavier smiled before he said.

"I believe we can make arrangements with your family. Is there anything else you wish to discuss?"

"Well, I will need to be able to fight any ghost that would show up," Danny gestures to Maddie. "But my mom wants me to be home at a certain time."

"Very well." Professor Xavier said in response.

"Also, you don't mind if Sam and Tucker come and visit, do you?"

"Not at all." Professor Xavier says. "I feel that your friends are trustworthy, and they will keep our secret safe as they did with your powers."

"One more question." Danny states.

"Fire away." Xavier said with a nod.

"You don't mind if my parent bring their lab equipment, do you?"

Jack and Maddie were surprised at Danny's request. However, deep down, they were hoping that it would be granted. Then, Professor Xavier smiled before he said.

"They're more than welcome to do so."

Danny smiled before he said

"Then, count me in."

Scott was the first to approach Danny before he said while putting a hand on the boy's shoulder.

"Welcome to the team!"

"Thanks."

Logan walked up to Danny as he said

"You're gonna be needing this back, kid."

After Danny took his uniform, he turned to Professor Xavier. As the man noticed, the boy said to him.

"Well, since I'm going to be part of the group, you might as well start calling me...Phantom-X from now on."

The X-Men all nod in agreement to Danny's new codename after a moment of thinking. Then, Jack spoke up to Xavier.

"Well, I guess we better get home and start packing... again."

"If you need some assistance at all, please feel free to ask." Xavier offers.

Jack and Maddie nod in response. As the Fentons were about to leave, Jazz glanced at Jean before asking

"Mom? Dad? Could you give me a minute?"

Upon seeing her parents nodding at her with an "okay" gesture, Jazz turned to Jean as she asked the taller redhead

"Mind if I ask you something in private?"

Jean picked up Jazz's subtly instantly before going with Jazz to an area, away from prying eyes and eavesdroppers.

"What is it, Jazz?" Jean asks.

"Since I'm going to be moving here with my parents and my little brother, what do you say we become roommates?"

Jean was taken by surprise when she heard Jazz asking her to be her roommate. She was silent for a second before she smiled in appreciation before saying in response.

"Sure. I'd like that."

"Cool."

It was a week since the Fentons sold their house and some of their furniture before they removed all of their remaining household furniture and items. After everything was packed, the Fenton family arrive at the gates of the Xavier Institute once more. There were 2 moving trucks behind the FFAV, courtesy of Professor Xavier's connections.

Currently, they were all in front of the Institute as the X-Men cooperated with the movers to help move the boxes in. Thankfully, the Fenton family did not have to travel far as they did when they first arrived in Bayville. For Jack and Maddie, they were thankful to move their lab equipment through the secret elevators to the lower levels, without the movers noticing.

Also, there was plenty of room for them to rebuild their lab and the portal. In a way, the lab was also an ops center for them. Despite taking a day or two, Jack and Maddie would be able to set up their equipment easily.

With Danny, he was placing some moving boxes into his new room with the help of Scott, Kurt, and Evan.

"Well, this is the last of it." Evan comments as he placed a box on top of another.

"Thanks, guys." Danny said with appreciation.

"Need help in unpacking?" Kurt asks.

"No thanks. I got this." Danny replies.

Scott and Evan walked out of the room while Kurt teleported out before the ghost boy began to open the boxes and once again decided to rearrange his new room in the way he wanted.

Meanwhile, in Jean's room, there was a second bed installed due to the sheer size of the rooms in the Institute. Jazz was moving her own boxes with the help of Jean and Kitty, with the former using her telekinesis to levitate multiple boxes at once. In merely minutes, Jazz's boxes were all stacked neatly in a corner as Kitty asked,

"Like, do you need any help?"

"Sure." Jazz said. "The more, the merrier."

Soon, the girls started to unpack. They were getting it done rather quickly as Kitty and Jean used their powers to help Jazz settle in a lot faster.

While Jack and Maddie had the moving boxes of their items in a room, they wasted no time in setting up their lab equipment in the lower levels of the Institute. Logan was there as well to give them a helping hand in reassembling their lab in the lower levels. Once the ghost portal was fully rebuilt, Maddie hit the "on" switch, activating it once again. However, the shutter doors were left open as the glow of the swirling vortex of the portal illuminated the lab.

It was almost dark when the Fenton family fully settled in to the Institute. Danny lay on his bed with a relieved sigh that his room was fully arranged. Soon, there was a knock on the door before he said.

"Come in."

Kurt teleported in while Kitty phased through the door, entering the room.

"How do you like your new room?" Kitty asks.

"It's a lot bigger than my old room back at Amity Park and the house we just moved out from, I'll admit." Danny said in response.

Kurt smiled before he said.

"Oh yeah! You get to go and play superhero!" he does a Superman pose for a little humor.

Danny chuckled before he said in response

"Kurt. I only go out to prevent ghosts from terrorizing people. I'm not Batman, you know."

Kitty just playfully pushed Kurt as she said.

"Don't mind him. He's just, like, being jealous, that's all."

The trio had a good laugh at that.

Suddenly, Danny's ghost sense went off as Kitty and Kurt saw that too.

"Speaking of which..." Danny looks outside to see a standard ectopus. "I better get to work."

Danny transforms before turning intangible to get a Fenton Thermos from below. After getting one, he phases through the roof to pursue the ghost that recently escaped.

From another room, Rogue saw Danny in his ghost form flying through the night sky. The mutant goth girl couldn't help but watch him fly off on his patrol in wonder. Eventually, her trance wore off before she received a telepathical message from Xavier that the Fentons ordered pizza for dinner.

It was only an hour when Danny returned. After returning the ghost that he caught back into the Ghost Zone, he shuts the doors before phasing through the ceiling to get to the kitchen. After getting a plate of pizza that Jazz managed to save for him, Danny ate his dinner in silence before cleaning up, changing into his sleep clothes, and then went straight to sleep.

It was the morning of the next day. Danny groaned as he heard his alarm go off. With a yawn, he turned it off before awakening, stretched, and went downstairs to where the restrooms were located.

After washing up, Danny got dressed in his usual attire before heading to the dining room for breakfast. As he got there, he saw Jack and Maddie assisting Ororo in placing the food onto the table as the teens, Logan and Professor Xavier, were already in their seats. Then, Danny sees Jazz waving to him

"Saved you a seat, little bro." Jazz said.

Once Danny took his seat, breakfast was then served to everyone.

"Thank you for assisting me." Ororo said to Jack and Maddie in an appreciative tone.

"Oh, it was nothing." Maddie said. "It feels great that we're part of an extended family, in a way."

"Except for Alicia." Jack mumbled.

Maddie snapped her head towards Jack and glared at him

"What was that?"

"Erm... nothing dear." Jack quickly fibs with a sheepish smile.

Maddie then smiled before she said

"Good."

As Maddie and Ororo talked, Jack leaned towards Logan and whispered in a low voice that only the burly man could hear with his enhanced senses.

"Seriously, I hate my sister-in-law."

Logan subtly smirked before he whispered

"I'm surprised she hasn't clobbered ya yet."

Breakfast went on before everyone was finished. Jack, Maddie, Jazz, and Danny stayed behind to help clean up the table before the Fenton children were in their respective rooms. However, they both heard Professor Xavier through their minds

"Daniel, Jasmine. I would like to meet you both in my office."

Danny and Jazz obliged. When they both arrived, they saw their parents present in the office.

""What's going on?" Jazz asked curiously.

Professor Xavier said to them.

"I understand that you are both curious as to why I called you here. Here's your answer: Since you will be enrolling in Bayville High when the school year initiates, you'll be changing your home address from your old home to here."

"Also, since today's a free day, your father and I will take you both to the school district to enroll both of you to Bayville High." Maddie adds.

Danny and Jazz nod in response to their mother's input.

It was noon when Danny and Jazz returned from the district office for their enrollment of Bayville High as Rogue and Kurt came to greet them.

However, it was short-lived when Logan came in as he said.

"All right! The X-Men have a training session in one hour in the Danger Room! Suit up and be ready downstairs!"

As Logan walked away, Danny whispered.

"He's joking, right?"

Suddenly, the ghost boy heard Logan saying in response without stopping or looking back.

"I ain't joking, Spooky."

Danny yelped in surprise slightly before he stuttered

"H-how did he...?"

"He's got ears lahke a wolf." Rogue whispered. "Word of advice: don't whisper when he's in range or he'll hear ya."

"Oh sure! Now you tell me!"

Then Scott, in his own uniform, came downstairs as he said to them.

"Come on, guys. Logan is waiting for us."

Danny saw that Scott was definitely an A-type as he whispered to no one in particular.

"Scott needs to loosen up once in a while."

"Yeah, I know." Kurt whispered.

Danny turned sharply to Kurt as the fuzzy elf grinned and pointed to his ears.

"These aren't just for show."

"I need to keep my big mouth shut." Danny mumbles.

"Good idea, but then ya got telepaths to worry about." Rogue comments. "Ya may be silent, but they'll hear your thoughts."

Danny slumped as he asked

"There's no way out of this, is there?"

"Nope." Kurt and Rogue said simultaneously.

All of the X-Men were in their respective uniforms, outside the entrance of the Danger Room. When Danny arrived, all of them saw that he wasn't in uniform as they were.

"Dude? What happened to your uniform?" Evan asks in confusion.

"Oh, that?"

Danny transforms into his phantom persona. However, instead of the usual costume he wears in his ghost form, he donned the X-Men uniform that was given to him by Logan.

The others were shocked as Kitty asked.

"Like, how did you do that?"

"A little trick that I just discovered." Danny answers. "Apparently, I can change my ghost forms at will. I take the Phantom-X form while I'm with you guys, or while I'm out on my ghost patrol..."

Danny transforms again, this time into his usual attire with the DP symbol on the chest.

"Danny Phantom."

The X-Men were impressed at their new teammate's ability. As Danny transformed back to his Phantom-X form, the shutter doors to the Danger Room open, allowing them entry.

Then, they see Logan in his own uniform as they gather around him.

"All right, listen up!" Logan begins. "Since Spooky here has recently joined us," he points at Danny in a process. "we'll be training at a lower level than usual so he can get a feel of it."

Danny raised an eyebrow when he saw Logan grinning at him before he said

"I'll go easy on ya, bub. This time."

Danny gulped as he thought a funeral march should begin with the sound of a trumpet playing taps. Soon enough, the simulation activated as the ghost boy's very first training session began.

Time passed as the X-Men were leaving the Danger Room. While the others felt like they had an easy session, Danny was the one who was sore all over the place as he reverted back to his human form.

"How are you guys still standing from all of this?" he asks in curiosity.

"Hey. We've all had what you're dealing with." Jean said. "But it does get easier to tolerate over time."

"And dude, next time, give me a warning before turning me intangible or... whatever you call it!" Evan snaps.

"I did tell you heads-up when that laser turret was aiming at you!" Danny counters.

"Both of you have made valid points." Scott interrupts as he turns to both Danny and Evan. "Evan, you should be more aware of your surroundings and Danny, I know you're used to working alone, but your teamwork skills just need a little polish. However, you are improving on that, I'll admit."

Danny smiled slightly at Scott's words.

After everyone was showered and cleaned up, most of them were in their rooms or in different areas of the Institute. With Danny, he was in the kitchen to get something to drink. Right when he was about to take a seat, Kitty showed up with a tray of muffins in her hands.

"Danny? Have you, like, seen Kurt anywhere?" she asks.

"No. I haven't seen him." he replies.

"Oh, well, I was going to, like, try one of my muffins." Kitty said.

Before she left, the brunette lifts the tray to Danny and asks.

"You want one?"

"Sure. I'll take one." Danny said as he took a muffin. "Thanks."

"Like, no problem." Kitty said before leaving.

A second after she left, Kurt ports into the kitchen before looking around frantically. However, he stopped with a gasp as he saw Danny with a muffin in his hand. The ghost boy was about to take a bite as he opened his mouth.

Kurt panicked as he hollered while making a dive at Danny,

"NOOOOOO!"

Danny sees Kurt hit the muffin out of his hand. Much to the ghost boy's shock, instead of falling with a splat, the pastry bounced all over the kitchen as Danny watched it ricochet into different directions. Finally, it lands into Kurt's open mouth. The fuzzy elf tried his hardest not to swallow before he quickly ran to a trash can and spits it out.

"Don't. Eat. Any. of Kitty's. Muffins!" Kurt warns as he breathed heavily.

"Uh...point taken." Danny said, completely frightened at what he recently witnessed.

Then, he thought to himself.

"Maybe Mom and Dad should teach Kitty how to cook properly."

Suddenly, Jazz comes into the kitchen and asks.

"What just happened?"

"You don't want to know." Danny said in response. "Trust me."

Seeing the look on her brother's face like he was out of a near-death situation before she said in confusion.

"Okay..."

After Jazz got a drink, she left the kitchen while Kurt teleports out, leaving Danny alone there as he said to himself.

"This place is going to take some getting used to."

Stay tuned for the next chapter where Danny's birthday is celebrated at the Xavier Institute.

A/N: I know that Danny's codename sounds absolutely similar to the Marvel character "Fantomex." Trust me when I tell you; I had to ask several die-hard Marvel fans for assistance in that topic.
