Dani Arrives
It was November. A week has passed since the Halloween party took place. The Danger Room went out of commission for almost a week; which some of the New Mutants call "a stay of execution." However, it wasn't the only event that the X-Men experienced.
Bayvile High's chemistry teacher, Hank McCoy. No one but Charles Xavier knew that he was a mutant. The man kept his mutantion suppressed with a serum for such a time that his body began to develop a resistance to it. After his mutation fully kicked in, his entire body underwent a transformation into an ape-like form. Hence, the Xavier kids nickname him, "Beast." No longer able to walk the streets freely, Hank had no other option but to reside at the Xavier Institute.
Upon his relocation, Hank met Jack and Maddie, which the Fenton man fainted upon seeing Hank's new form at first. The family got along with Hank very nicely after Jack's initial shock wore off due to them being fellow scientists. However, Hank was most intrigued by Danny's physiology of being half-ghost. He took the time to study him. Despite Hank's methods by collecting swab and blood samples and poking him while he was in ghost form, they were annoying to Danny. However, it was a lot better than painful experimentation or dessection.
In addition to that, the Fentons showed Hank their lab and equipment as well as the ghost portal, which the former Bayville High teacher found very intriguingly interesting.
In an unknown secret lab...
"File 10406VM!"
A video footage shows Danny Phantom in combat with Valerie as the Red Huntress.
"Stop! Analysis!"
Data was collected from the footage.
It was Vlad Plasmius who was accessing video footage from each file that was saved. More data was collected from each footage that was accessed. After all of the data was collected, Vlad commands.
"Conclusion?"
Then, the AI monitor screen with a disturbing likeness of Maddie's face appeared and spoke with an even more disturbing replica of the Fenton woman's voice.
"I'm sorry, sweetheart. Inconclusive data. Experiment can not be completed without a mid-morph sample."
The sceen shows images in the likeness of Danny Phantom and Danny Fenton with a question mark in between the two. The information didn't deter Vlad as he dismissed it.
"Bah!" he cups his chin. "The equipment I gave Valerie to fight ghosts has been monitoring Daniel for months." he clenched his fists. "And I'm still missing the one piece I need!"
Vlad snaps his fingers as pods open up.
"Now that I know that he's in Bayville, I just have to find his exact location."
The chambers reveal a muscular teenage ghost with a mohawk, a ghost with a bedsheet as a cloak, and a green light that has a silhouette of a ghost before he levitates to them.
"You know what to do."
"Yes, father." All three ghosts mindlessly droned simultaneously.
Once they flew off, Vlad smiled with glee as he said.
"Father..." he chuckles. "I do so love that! Vlad turns to the computer screen. "Now, say it again the way I programmed you to."
"Jack Fenton is an idiot. I am glad I serve you."
The AI repeats it as more screens of Maddie's face pop up, causing Vlad to laugh maniacally.
It was a Sunday afternoon when Sam and Tucker were at a mini golf course. The goth girl was focusing her shot on the last hole numbered eighteen. In addition, she asks.
"Where is Danny, anyway?"
"I don't know." Tucker said. "I tried to call, but it went to voicemail."
Sam frowned as she focused while thinking.
"Maybe he's too busy playing tonsil hockey with Rogue."
Sam swings her club to hit the golf ball. Before it entered a tunnel, the blade of the windmill blocked it as Sam stomped her foot while shouting
"Darn it!"
"Eighteenth hole, Sam." Tucker said with a cocky smile. "I beat you here, I win!"
Sam growled as her eye twitched while watching Tucker walk to his golf ball that was the closest to the hole. After taking aim, Tucker swings his club, but the ball goes intangible, making the African boy miss.
"Huh?"
"That's one." Sam said with a smirk
Tucker tries again repeatedly but keeps missing the ball as it goes intangible repeatedly while Sam counts the number of times he missed. Right when Tucker was about to grab the ball, it went intangible once more before Danny partially popped up from the ground.
"Boo!"
"Gah!"
Danny chuckled while Tucker scolded him
"Knock it off!"
"Yeah! You were supposed to be here an hour ago." Sam said in a scolding tone before she turned to Tucker with a smirk. "By the way, that still counts."
Danny takes cover to transform back to his human form, as he said.
"Sorry, guys. I got held up with Danger Room training." he glanced upward. "Which, by the way, Logan's still steamed about me breaking it with my ghostly wail at the party."
Flashback
All of the X-Men were in their uniforms as Wolverine came in with his arms crossed.
"All right, listen up! Hank and I have just finished the repairs. Until I know it is fully functional, you'll be training at a lower level than usual for about 2 hours!"
While the younger members of the X-Men groaned, Wolverine glared at Danny specifically as he growled.
"Damage it the same way you did last time, and you fix it with Hank."
Danny gulped before Wolverine barked
"All right, begin simulation!"
End of Flashback
"He practically ran us through the ground." Danny said as he rubbed his arm in discomfort.
Sam rolled her eyes as she said.
"Fine, I guess that's a legitimate excuse."
Suddenly, Danny's ghost sense went off as he looked around.
"Time to punch in." he glances at Sam and Tucker. "You guys get out of here. I'll handle this."
It didn't take long for Danny to see screaming teens running from the bedsheet-wearing ghost before he takes cover to transform into Danny Phantom and tackles it into one a castle display of the golf course.
At a distance, Sam and Tucker stopped fleeing and looked back to see their friend's opponent.
"What kind of ghost haunts a miniature golf course?" Tucker asks.
"Well, there is a Box Ghost." Sam replies. "Obviously, all of the good haunts have been taken."
Danny pummels the ghost before it counters, and the ghost boy is thrown out of the castle. After a few minutes of being in a tussle, Danny manages to knock it down.
"Seriously?! A bedsheet?!" Danny asks in annoyance as he approaches. "What do you got under there?"
Removing the bedsheet, Danny discovers that there was a skeleton ghost without any legs, much to his shock. The ghost tackles him before it drones.
"Change back."
"What?" Danny glares at it. "Get off me!"
Danny kicks the ghost off him before he quickly gets out the Fenton Thermos, aims, and fires at it, sucking in the ghost.
After securing it, Danny flies to cover, nearby his friends that were safely away from the golf course and transforms back.
"What kind of ghost was that?" Sam asks as she sees Danny come out of the bushes.
"I don't know, Sam." he looks at the Fenton Thermos in his hand. "But I got to show this to my parents, the professor, and Mr. McCoy, pronto!"
At the Xavier Institute, the skeleton ghost was lying on the examination bed as it was also restrained by the Fenton Ghost Fisher fishing line, courtesy of Jack and Maddie while the entire Fenton family, Hank, Logan, Ororo, Professor Xavier, the X-Men, Sam and Tucker were present in the lab.
The ghost struggled in vain to get loose, but the Fenton Fisher held on very well.
"I don't like this." Hank comments with remorse. "I wish we didn't need the restraints."
"It's for the best, Mr. McCoy." Tucker said. "Especially since that ghost is pretty hostile."
Hank sighed while nodding in understanding before he began examining the ghost. Using a little flashlight, he shines it in the eye to see the usual reaction.
"Pupil constricted. The eyes are reactive to light."
As Hank poked at one of the arms, more specifically the part that presumably was the radius, he got a confused look as he rose an eyebrow.
"What is it, Hank?" Professor Xavier asks.
"Even though this ghost resembles a skeleton, its "bones" lack the calcium, Vitamin-D, and other minerals necessary for the usual density." Hank comments as he cupped his chin. "Which means a simple needle should easily penetrate it."
Suddenly, without even a slight warning, the ghost started to convulse as it roared in pain, much to everyone's confusion.
"What's happening to it?!" Ororo asks in shock and curiosity.
Kurt spots something else as he points to it.
"Look!"
They all witness the ghost beginning to slowly melt into ectoplasm. It lets out its last cry of pain as it completely dissolves into green ectoplasmic goo.
"I think I'm going to, like, throw up." Kitty said in disgust.
Hank gets a closer look at the ectoplasm in wonder before he says
"Strange." he gets a petri dish and dropper to extract some of the remaining ectoplasm. "I'll have to study these remains and see what I can find."
While Sam and Tucker went home, everyone else in the Institute secluded themselves to their rooms. With Danny, he goes to his room to relax before he hears the doorbell. A second later, Kurt teleports inside
"What's up, Kurt?" he asks.
"Dude, I overheard Ororo talking to someone who claims to be looking for you through the intercom." Kurt informs. "You might want to see who it is."
Danny shrugs before he goes to the front door. Upon opening the door, he sees a young girl who appears to be 12 years old. She had black hair and blue eyes that were the same shade as his. She was also clad in a blue hoodie, a red beanie, red shorts, and blue sneakers.
"Can I help you?" Danny asks with a raised eyebrow.
"Hi. I'm Danielle. Your..." she hesitates. "cousin once removed. I ran away from home and I've been looking for you for days."
Danny blinked in confusion before he stepped aside, as he said hesitantly.
"Uh... come in."
Danielle enters the Institute before looking around in shock and awe by the sheer size of the interior.
"Wow! This is a neat joint!" she comments with impression. "Hey, you got any food?"
Danny was silent before he sent a telepathic message to Jean.
"Jean? Can you get the others and meet me in the kitchen?"
Minutes later, the X-Men and Jazz were in the kitchen with Danny as they all watched Danielle enjoying her lunch, which was basically take-out that the ghost boy ordered. Danielle had a full belly before she let out a belch and sighed in relief.
"Like, where did she come from?" Kitty asks.
"Beats me." Evan said in response.
"I wonder how she found this place to begin with." Scott comments.
Soon, Ray enters the kitchen to get a soda before he stops and gets a look at Danielle.
Meanwhile, down at the lab, Hank was analyzing the ectoplasm of the ghost that Danny brought before it dissolved earlier.
"Strange." he whispers to himself. "This substance is viscous, almost like blood, but thicker."
When he typed in a few commands, the screen showed him that an anomaly was detected. Hank types in the command to zoom in and magnify. What he found startled him.
"DNA?! There's DNA fused to it?" he cupped his chin. "It looks like it's been fused to ectoplasm, like Daniel's, but it's unstable."
While Hank was thinking, another thought hit him like a bolt of lightning.
"Wait!"
Hank rushed to the cold storage unit before he took out a vial of blood that was labeled Danny Fenton on it and looked at it hard.
"Could it be possible...?!"
Back in the kitchen, Ray continues to stare at Danielle before he asks.
"Hey, guys? Who's the brat?"
Danielle frowned at Ray for calling her a brat. She hops her chair walks up to him and then stomps on his foot. The impact caused Ray to holler "Aaugh" similar to the characters of the Peanuts cartoons as he hopped on his other foot while trying to soothe the pain on the foot the girl stomped on.
Jack and Maddie rushed into the kitchen when they heard the scream before the man asked.
"What's going on?"
"She stomped on my foot!" Ray said while pointing at Danielle.
"Did not!"
"Did too!"
"Did not!"
"Did too!"
"Did not!" Danielle emphasized before sticking her tongue out at Ray. Then, she flashed her most innocent look towards Maddie.
Maddie took a good look at the new girl. In her perspective, she looks an awful lot like her son when he was 12 years old.
"Danny? Jazz? Who is this?" she asks.
"Well, mom, she's..." Danny says
Suddenly, Professor Xavier sent a telepathic message to Jack and Maddie
"Jack. Maddie. Please come down to the lab immediately. This is of utmost importance."
Jack hesitates before he said.
"We'll finish this later."
After the Fentons left, Danielle turns to Ray and said in a taunting manner.
"Serves you right, you big bully!" she blows a raspberry at him.
"Ah think Ah lahke this kid already." Rogue thought with a smirk.
Ray grumbled as he walked away from the kitchen after picking up the soda can that he accidentally dropped when the kid stomped on his foot.
In the lab, Logan, Ororo, Professor Xavier, and the Fentons were in the lab with Hank.
"What have you found, Hank?" Professor Xavier asks.
"Well," Hank began. "When I analyzed the ectoplasm of the ghost that Daniel brought earlier, I discovered an anomaly."
Hank pressed a key to show DNA on the computer screen
"The ghost had traces of DNA in its molecular structure, fused to ectoplasm similar to Daniel's DNA, but it was highly unstable." Hank explains.
"I see. So, that explains the disintegration." Professor Xavier comments.
"I feel a big but coming on." Logan said.
"And you're right." Hank says. "When I saw the DNA, I did a comparative analysis with Daniel's blood sample."
Hank types in more commands before the screen shows Danny's DNA on the screen next to the DNA of the ghost.
"I found that his DNA and the DNA in the ghost's remains are a perfect match."
Dread hit hard as Ororo said
"Hank? You don't mean..."
"Yes." Hank turns to face the other adults. "It's his clone."
The adults were silent for a second before Maddie asked in anger with her fists clenched.
"Somebody's cloning my son?!"
"Who would do this?!" Jack asks, equally angry.
"Honestly, I don't know." Hank said. "This is scary, even for me. No scientist in the world has this kind of cloning technology."
"Well, that's encouraging." Logan said.
"We'll put that on hold for a time-being." Jack suggests. "Right now, we have a more pressing concern."
"Yes." Professor Xavier replies in agreement. "I'm aware of our new visitor here at the Institute."
In the office, Danielle was with Danny as she talked to Professor Xavier with Jack, Maddie, Logan, and Ororo present.
"So, you say that you have run away from home, but why will you not allow us to call your parents?" Professor Xavier asks.
"I don't want to go home." Danielle replies.
"Did something happen?" Ororo asks in concern.
"I don't want to talk about it!" Danielle said in frustration. "Please, leave me alone!"
Danielle exits the office before Danny calls out
"Hey! Come back!"
The ghost boy chases her. However, when she turned at a corner, Danny followed her through the same corner. Only to find that she suddenly disappeared.
"Man! She's fast!"
Danny looks around the hallway of the Institute to locate Danielle. No matter where he looked she was nowhere to be found. He turned ghost before flying around in search of her. When he couldn't find her, Danny phased to the outside to look around. Again, she was nowhere to be found.
"Okay!" he says in frustration. "She's a twelve-year-old girl! How far could she have possibly...?!"
Suddenly, Danny's ghost sense went off, alerting him.
"Swell! After the bedsheet ghost, what's this going to be?" he looks around. "Some spooky bat on a string?"
Suddenly, Danny hears a growl before looking up to see a muscular teenage ghost with the mohawk charging at him. Then, it throws a punch, knocking the ghost boy into the ground.
"Man!" Danny snaps as he was getting up. "You look like I do on a bad day!" he flies up to his opponent. "But I'm going to make you look worse!"
Danny throws a few punches at the ghosts torso, but the muscles are like armor, absorbing his blows.
"Uh oh!"
The ghost backhands Danny, knocking him 30 feet away. Reacting quickly, Danny grabs a communication device and speaks into it.
"Mom! Dad! A ghost is here! I need help!"
"We're on our way, sweetie!" Maddie says through the other line.
Danny hears another growl before he sees the hostile spook charging at him once more. The ghost boy quickly dodged the attack as the creature's fist collided with the ground. Suddenly, it was shot in the shoulder from the back. Looking back, it sees an armed Jack and Maddie and the X-Men ready to fight.
Then, Danielle arrives as she shouts
"Hey! Leave him alone!"
"What are you doing?! Get out of here!" Danny shouts.
"Forget it. I know who you are, and I came a long way to find you." she crossed her arms. "And I am not leaving now!"
Then, a ring of light appeared around the girl's waist before it divided, causing her to transform. However, her suit was different. Her shirt bore her midriff, being diagonally black and white, a black glove on one hand, and a white glove on the other. Her black pants were baggy and had a white trim that went over her white boots. There was a DP symbol on the chest. She also had white hair and neon green eyes to complete it.
All who witnessed the transformation were stunned cold.
"Now I've seen it all." Jean comments in shock.
Danny was confused as he watched Danielle fire a ghost ray of her own, knocking the creature away.
"How...?"
"You want to ask questions, or do you want to kick butt?" Danielle asks.
The shock wore off from everyone as the group spread out to surround the hostile ghost. It extends its claws, ready to attack, but Logan pops out his own with a primal roar. The ghost swung its clawed hands, but Wolverine's razor-sharp adamantium claws easily cut them as if they were twigs.
Scott fired his optic blast, hitting the ghost on the backside. Suddenly, Danny and Danielle fire their ghost rays at it, causing it to double over. The creature looks around as the group close in on it. It was Jack and Maddie who got in and aimed their Fenton Bazookas at it.
"Start talking! Who are you?!" Jack demands.
"And why are you after our boy?!" Maddie demands as well.
Suddenly, the ghost roars in pain as its body began to convulse. Like the bedsheet ghost, it started to dissolve, much to everyone's shock.
"Another clone?!" Hank asks in shock.
They watch as the ghost completely dissolved into ectoplasm.
"It's getting weirder and weirder." Danny comments as he transformed back before looking at Danielle. "And you have a lot of explaining to do." he puts his fists on his waist. "When we get inside you're gonna..."
Danielle becomes dizzy as she moaned. Danny catches her before she could make contact with the ground. Jack and Maddie rush in as the woman asks.
"Is she okay?"
"I don't know." Danny said with worry. "But I think we'll have to put the questions on hold til tomorrow."
Logan casts a suspicious look at Danielle while Jack picked her up to carry her inside the mansion.
However, no one knew that Danielle was playing possum as she had a sinister smirk.
The next morning, the dining room was full of activity as everyone was enjoying breakfast.
"Where is the girl?" Ororo asks.
"Still asleep in one of the spare rooms." Professor Xavier replies.
"Has she said anything about her powers?" Evan asks.
Danielle was a mystery to all. Evan's question got everyone wondering about this girl.
"No, she hasn't. When she is ready, she'll tell us and I'm not going to pry." Xavier said.
A suspicious Logan mulled it over before he said while looking the professor.
"If ya ask me, Chuck, I smell a rat." he glanced at Jean. "Pass the sausages, red."
Jean uses her telekinesis to pass a plate of sausages to Logan as Kitty looks in disgust.
"Ew! You should, like, totally change your eating habits, Mr. Logan."
"I appreciate your concern." Logan comments while using his adamantium claws to pick 3 sausages.
"What makes you say that, Logan?" Ororo asks with worry.
"First of all, Spooky here brings back a ghost that somehow is his clone. Second, this girl shows up and has the same powers as he does. Then, we fight another ghost that is also his clone." Logan states logically. "Seems pretty suspicious to me."
Maddie had a bad feeling in her gut as she said.
"To be honest, I have to agree with Mr. Logan. My sister has had no children, even before her divorce."
"Thank goodness for that." Jack wisely thought to himself.
Professor Xavier was amused hearing Jack's thoughts. However, he maintained his composure as he said in response.
"I suspect you may be right, Logan. However, we cannot jump to conclusions until all the pieces of the puzzle fall into place."
"I couldn't agree more, Charles." Hank said in agreement.
It was the end of the school day when Danny went to his locker. He finds a note in the vents and pulls it out. Opening it, the ghost boy sees that it is a note from Sam as he reads it. Soon, he hears Rogue's voice.
"What do ya got there?"
Turning around, he sees her right next to him, as Danny says
"Just got a note from Sam. She's asking me to meet her and Tucker at the Gut Bomb after school."
"Oh." Rogue said after reading the note Danny showed her. "Well, get goin'. But don't forget that weh have Danger Room trainin'."
"Yeah." Danny said with a smile. "I'll see you soon."
Once Danny walks off, Rogue watches him depart for a bit before she walks to her own locker to retrieve her belongings.
In another area, Mr. Lancer was changing bags for the garbage. After he set aside the full bag, he began to place the new bag into the receptacle. However, he didn't know that an invisible individual was holding a slingshot before putting a rock inside the pouch, pulled back to aim, and released the projectile.
It sails at great velocity towards its target. Upon impact from the rock, the bag pops open with a bang, unleashing its payload onto the portly janitor, startling and covering him with garbage.
"To Kill a Mockingbird!"
In the streets of Bayville, Danny was walking along to meet his friends at the restaurant. Once he was about to pass an alley, he heard a distinct voice.
"Psst!"
Looking towards the source, Danny sees Danielle hiding behind some garbage cans
"What are you doing here?" he walks up to her. "You're supposed to be at the Institute."
"Sorry." Danielle said in response. "But you missed quite a show."
"Tell me about that later. Right now, I'm going to meet friends of mine." Danny said.
Suddenly, Danny hears an adult male voice.
"Oh, but I'm afraid that will have to wait."
Danny looks up to see his archenemy levitating in the air as he transforms.
"Plasmius?!"
"Of course, fool! Who else?!"
Vlad launched his attack as he tried to blast Danny with his own ghost ray. The ghost boy quickly dodged it as the evil half-ghost tried to throw a punch at him. What Vlad didn't realize was that Danny was ready as he blocked the attack with his arm, surprising his opponent.
"What?"
In an instant, Danny delivers a roundhouse kick, sending Vlad to a wall with a crash.
"Whoa. Logan's karate lessons really come in handy." Danny comments to himself.
Vlad gets up while placing a hand on his head as he grimaces in pain. Then, he looks at Danny
"How did you do that?!" he demands.
"Let's just say I've learned some tricks from new friends of mine."
Vlad charged at Danny and threw more punches, but the boy dodged them before he delivered a punch to the solarplexus, knocking the wind out of Vlad and then delivered an uppercut, knocking him down again.
"So, aren't you going to make some stupid crack about my father or a lame come on about my mom?" Danny asks in annoyance.
As Vlad gets up, he says in response
"No, dear boy. Funny, joking around Vlad isn't here today."
Vlad launches another ghost ray at Danny, who dodged it. Suddenly, the ghost boy gets blasted in the back of his head, knocking him down as he transforms back to human.
"What...?"
The next thing Danny knew, he saw Danielle land next to Vlad as she asked
"Did I do good, Daddy?"
"You did excellent, child." Vlad said with pride. I could not wish for a better daughter."
Danny blacked out as he heard Vlad laugh maniacally.
At the Xavier Institute, Scott and the rest of the X-Men were in their uniforms, ready for their Danger Room training. However, they were aware that one of their own was missing as Scott asked.
"Where is he?"
"He should've been back an hour ago." Evan comments.
"He's, like, never this late." Kitty says as well.
Rogue was confused as Jean noticed before she asked.
"Rogue? Do you know where Danny is?"
After a moment of silence, Rogue said to her.
"Hold on. Ah'll beh back."
Rogue ran to the elevator to get upstairs. After entering the living room, she picked up the cordless phone and was about to dial a number before she remembered one little detail.
"Shoot! Ah don't have Danny's numbah or his friends!"
Suddenly, the phone rings before she answers it.
"Hello?"
"Rogue?"
"Sam?" Rogue asks in confusion. "Have ya seen Danny anywhere?"
"No!" Sam said through the other line. "I thought he was still training with you guys."
"He nevah showed up." Rogue explains. "Ah thought he was with ya at the Gut Bomb."
"No. Danny hasn't arrived at the Gut Bomb either.' Tucker states.
Cold fear gripped its icy fingers on Rogue's heart, and a cloud of worry formed in her gut as the mutant goth girl dropped the phone and ran back downstairs.
"Uh...Rogue?"
Once Rogue went downstairs, she ran past her teammates as they looked in confusion, wondering why Rogue running towards elsewhere.
"I think something's wrong." Jean comments.
First, she runs towards the lab to see Jack and Maddie with Hank conducting some research.
"Have ya'll seen the professor?" Rogue asks.
When they shook heads in a "no" response, Rogue runs off to a different, leaving them confused.
In the kitchen, Jazz was getting a soda before she heard footsteps approaching fast before she sees Rogue coming in.
"Jazz? Have ya seen the professor?"
"No, I haven't." Jazz replied. "But Mr. Logan is here. I think he's in the garage."
"Thanks!" Rogue said before running off again.
"What's with her?" Jazz asks herself.
In the garage, Logan was lying on a creeper while maintaining the X-Van underneath. It was all silent at first as the only sound he heard was the ratchet that he was using. Suddenly, he hears a voice, breaking the silence.
"Logan!"
The sound Rogue's sudden voice startled him as he bumped his head onto the vehicle with a clang sound, causing him to grunt in pain.
"Have ya seen the professor?"
Logan groaned in pain as he had his hand on his forehead before answering her
"He's in a meeting, Stripes. Why?"
"It's about Danny!" Rogue says.
Logan rolls out the creeper to look at Rogue before he asks
"What happened?"
"He's not back yet! Sam and Tucker just told meh that they haven't seen him either!" Rogue explains. "Ah'm worried that somthin' mahght've happened to him!"
Logan was silent at Rogue's explanation.
Minutes later, Logan was on his Harley, looking around Bayville for Danny. He couldn't see him anywhere. However, he picked up a scent and followed it in an instant. Logan stops at an alley before looking around the area. He sees Danny's backpack lying on the ground as he sped his vehicle while leaning down to grab it before braking to a screeching stop.
He sniffed the bag to find that Danny's scent was on it, but there was something else he noticed; he found the scent of Danielle as well. There was a third scent too; one he had never smelled before. In addition to that, they were all mixed with death, similar to Danny's ghost form when the burly Canadian smelled it during his first encounter. The three scents gave him a picture of what happened in the area before he growled in anger.
"I knew it!"
Danny regains consciousness to find himself in a secret lab, imprisoned in a hi-tech cube, and Vlad Plasmius grinning evilly at him before he sees the computer screen showing Danny transforming into his ghost form.
"You've been spying on me?!" Danny asks in anger.
"Well, my dear boy, you went missing in Amity Park until I found out that you've relocated to Bayville through the news coverage." Vlad explains
Danny sees a recording of said news coverage when he was pursuing the Triceratops ghost nearly two months ago.
"It was only a matter of time before I was able to find you again." Vlad says as he turns off the recording.
"Okay, I've said it before and I'll say it again. You really are one seriously crazed up fruitloop!" Danny said in annoyance.
Vlad shows an old news article of mysterious robberies on the computer as he said.
"A fruitloop would not have been able to make first million with a series of invisible burglaries!"
Vlad shows a video recording of CEOs selling their businesses as he continued.
"A fruitloop would never have thought to overshadow enough millionaires to become one of the richest men on the planet!"
Then, the screen shows various magazine covers of Vlad in his human form being wealthy
"I. Am. NOT. A. FRUITLOOP!"
Neither of them realized that Danielle was watching and listening invisibly as Vlad continues to talk.
"And I am not a villain. All I wanted was love."
Vlad pressed a button to open a pod, revealing another clone. However, this one was an exact replica of Danny in his ghost form. However, there was various monitoring wires attached to it. Danny was shellshocked with what he saw.
"It's taken months and the good clone still needs more time before he can accept your DNA."
Danielle was shocked as well when she saw the clone of Danny Phantom as Danny asked, watching a green light buzz in circles around his head as the boy started to piece together.
"So the ghosts?"
"Bad clones." Vlad simply replied. "Mistakes."
The green light expands to reveal a silhouette of another clone. However, this one was completely deformed.
"And I would watch a hundred more failures devolve into ectoplasm to get the perfect half ghost son."
Danny was unamused as he quipped.
"Oh yeah. Nothing loopy about that."
Vlad cups his chin as he said
"Are you under the impression that you are getting out of this?" he gets close to Danny. "I need a DNA sample of your mid-morph to complete my work."
Once Vlad snapped his fingers, the glowing clone shrinks to the size of a mosquito before it gets inside Danny's body
"Get out of me!" Danny shouts in defiance as his eyes turned neon green from the ghostly parasite.
Danielle's jaw dropped as she continued to watch on before hearing Vlad say to Danny.
"And then you will be obsolete."
At the Institute, Professor Xavier was up to speed of Danny being kidnapped upon his return. Jack and Maddie also found out, causing them to panic at the fact that their son was kidnapped. Right now, the bald telepath was currently using the Cerebro after setting it to ghost mode to locate Danny. Logan was the only one present at first before Jack and Maddie entered the Cerebro room.
"Has he found him?" Maddie asks with worry.
"Still looking." Logan replied.
"Professor, please!" Jack begged. "Find Danny."
"I'm doing all I can." Professor Xavier assured. "Right now, the Cerebro hasn't located him yet, despite that it's set to ghost mode. It can only mean that Daniel is still in human form. Once he transforms, I'll pinpoint his location."
Jack hugs a worried Maddie and Jazz as he was also worried about Danny as well.
The Fentons were not the only worried people.
Rogue was nearby the Cerebro room as she heard that Professor Xavier was still searching for Danny. Tears fell from her eyes as she clenched her chest where her heart was, with worry as she thought
"Danny. Please beh okay."
In the lab, Danny was in an empty pod as electricity coursed through his body when the hologram of Maddie activated the machinery. The electric currents were forcing him to transform partially, but the ghost boy resisted the process to ensure that his archenemy did not obtain the sample he wanted.
Soon, Vlad arrived as he asked.
"Well?"
"Subject is still resisting morph, dear heart." the Maddie hologram replied.
The power was increased further while Danny continued resisting. Soon, the overload warning light and alarm began sounding.
"Containmemt chamber beginning to overload."
The equipment sparked with electricity before the system blew as the screen exploded while smoke emits from the control unit.
"Oopsie! Has overloaded."
As the chamber explodes, Vlad waves away the smoke before he sees Danny transform, turn intangible, and fly away, despite that he was exhausted. He flies through Vlad in a process as the evil half-ghost got angry.
"Agh! I'm will...!"
Right when he turned around, Vlad sees Danielle right behind him as she had a hurt look.
At the Institute, the Cerebro finally pinpoints Danny's location the second he transformed.
"I found him!" Professor Xavier removes his headgear. "He's under a chalet in the middle of the Black River State Forest in Wisconsin."
"Then we're there!" Jack declared.
"Jack. Maddie. I would advise not to venture. You do not know what Daniel may be up against." Professor Xavier said.
"But we can't leave him!" Maddie said in protest. "Who knows what's happening to Danny!"
"I understand your concern over your son's well-being." Professor Xavier said. "But remember, he is part of the X-Men now. I can assure you that Danny will be brought back safely."
"And in one piece." Scott said as he and the rest of the X-Men entered the Cerebro room.
Jack and Maddie both nod in understanding. Soon, the latter said with a grin
"In that case, you're going to need some equipment."
The X-Men follow the Fentons into the lab as they see specter deflectors that were a new design, lightsaber hilts, cuff bracelet like gauntlets, hi-tech weighted knuckle gloves, and an assortment of blasters that were equal in size to a sidearm neatly arranged on a table.
"You'll need to put on these specter deflectors." Jack said as he passed out the devices. "So, in case a ghost tries to get near you, you'll be protected."
"Also, we've designed equipment for some of you, so your powers can affect whatever ghost you might run into." Maddie states.
"They look like some of our utility belts." Kurt comments as he puts his on.
"But won't these, like, hurt Danny as well?" Kitty asks while taking a lightsaber hilt.
"They would if we didn't recalibrate them." Maddie comments.
"Really?" Jean asks in curiosity as she puts the cuff bracelets on.
"Of course." Hank replies. "They asked for my assistance to recalibrate them, so Daniel will be recognized as a friendly.
Rogue takes off her utility belt before putting on the spector deflector of her own. After taking a sidearm and the weighted knuckle gloves, she takes the remaining specter deflector as she thought to herself.
"Hang on, Danny. Weh are comin'."
Back in Wisconsin...
"Danielle? How...how long have you been floating there?" Vlad asks sheepishly.
"Am I an imperfection?" she asks while tears threaten to fall. "A mistake?"
"What?!" Vlad chuckled sheepishly. "Dearest, I wasn't talking about you. I was talking about the other clones."
As Vlad gestured to one of the damaged pods, another clone of Danny stumbles out before collapsing. Then, it instantly dissolved into ectoplasm, much to Danielle's horror as she shrieked in fear.
"I know. It's horrible, isn't it?" Vlad continues in faux regret. "That's why I need Daniel's DNA," he faces Danielle once more. "To stabilize you," he placed his hand on her shoulder. "My greatest creation."
"Really?" Danielle asks with hope.
"Uh huh." he grins at Danielle. "But here's what I need you to do."
The X-Men lands the X-Velocity in a clear area of the Black River State Forest before every member gets off the helicopter after it fully powers down.
"Man, where do we start looking for this chalet that Danny's in?" Evan asks as he looked around the forest.
"Why do you think Jack and Maddie lent us this?" Scott asks as he pulls out the Fenton Finder.Once Scott turns on the device, it instantly locks on to Danny, who was currently 2 miles away from their position."Let's get him and bring him home."In the chalet, Danny makes it into the mail living room where the chimney was before he looked around, trying to find his way out. Suddenly, Danielle blasts him from below and into a wall."You're not going anywhere!"Danielle fires another ghost ray before Danny shields himself from the attack. Then, he sees Danierle readying another blast as she said."Stop fighting. I know you're too weak to beat me."
"I'm not going to fight you." Danny said. "Every clone I've encountered turned into goop!"
Danielle looks down to see she is dissolving as well. She shrieks before stopping her attack. The ectoplasm reabsorbs into her feet. Danny walks up to her as he says
"But you're not mindless like those other clones." he puts his hands up slightly. "I don't want to hurt you."
"Then let my father have your morph DNA." Danielle said in reasoning. "So he can save me."
"He's not going to save you!" Danny said in contradiction. "He's using you. You're nothing but a mess he's not going to clean up!"
Danielle glares at him
"You're a liar!"
She blasts him into a dresser, breaking it in half. Danny blacks out as he heard Danielle's voice.
"And I'm going to prove it!"
Danny regains consciousness to find himself once again restrained in the pod in Vlad's lab as he looks to see his archenemy and Danielle making adjustments to the control unit.
"All set, dad!"
"I still don't know how to get him to morph." Vlad said while cupping his chin before grins. "Unless... unless you can overshadow him for me, dear."
Danielle was stunned silent as Vlad walked up to her.
"Force him to transform."
"But the last clone that tried that melted." Danielle said with worry. "What if it's too much?"
"Oh, it won't be."
"But what if...?"
Vlad gets angry as he yells.
"You exist to serve ME! Just do it!"
Danny gasped in fear. However, Danielle sheds tears, realizing that Danny was telling the truth the entire time. Soon, she frowns before she says in defiance while hitting the release switch.
"You are not the boss of me!"
"No! NO!"
The restraints break, freeing Danny before he steps out, causing Vlad to step back.
"You're helping me now?" he asks.
"You want to ask questions, or do you want to kick some butt?" Danielle asks with a grin.
Both Danny and Danielle transform into their ghost forms. However, before either of them could make a move, there was movement on the ceiling. Suddenly, the X-Men landed on to the floor as they were ready.
"Hope we're not too late to join in." Scott quips.
"How did you guys find me?" Danny asks, happy to see them.
"We'll talk later!" Jean said. "Care to join us?"
Vlad sees the X-Men as he realized that they are Danny's new friends he mentioned previously.
"So, I take it that they're your new friends, little Badger?" he asks.
"Yep, that's them." Danny quips. "But first, I need to change for the party!"
Danny transforms once more, but this time donning his X-Men uniform, much to Vlad's shock.
"How did you do that?!"
Instead of answering, Danny nods to Scott before nodding to Danielle. Then, the trio fire their ghost rays and optic blast at Vlad with enough force to send him into the last pod, severely damaging it before it falls onto him.
"Not bad, kid." Scott compliments to Danielle.
However, they all see Vlad Plasmius roll the heavy pod off of him. He gets up while groaning in pain before he sees something that makes him become horror-stricken.
The clone that he intended to complete began to dissolve into ectoplasm as the Maddie hologram informed him as it was next to the damaged pod.
"Prime clone destabilized, lambchop."
Vlad watched in horror as his clone continued to dissolve. The X-Men watched as well, but the clone melting was not shocking to them. What stunned them was the AI hologram in Maddie's likeness, which disgusted them.
"No way!" Scott said.
"You mean...?!" Jean paused.
"Nasty!" Kurt says.
"Man, that is sick!" Evan comments
"Like, ew!" Kitty shouts in disgust.
"Ah think Ah'm gonna be ill!" Rogue comments as she got a little green.
The clone continues to dissolve, much to Vlad's horror.
"Degeneration happening, sweetness."
The clone dissolves and evaporates completely, and Vlad couldn't do anything to prevent it.
"No! NO! NOOOO!"
Vlad looks at the group in anger and hatred, but his main focus is on Danielle, who turned on him. He starts walking towards the group, ready to destroy his creation.
"Get ready, team!" Scott commands.
"You won't need to." Danny said while getting in front before stepping forward. "Cover your ears and get behind me."
Knowing what he was about to do, the X-Men did as he instructed, as did Danielle before they all witnessed Danny unleash his ghostly wail. The attack destroys the equipment as well as forcing Vlad back into a wall, pinning him. As Danny kept up the attack, the Maddie hologram approached Vlad.
"Systems damaged. Going critical. Losing coherence. And I never loved you. I love the Jack program."
Then, a hologram of Jack appears as it greets.
"Vladdie!"
The two holograms kiss before disappearing as Vlad transforms back to human form. Afterward, Danny stops his attack and transforms back into human form as well, exhausted. The X-Men huddle around him.
"Out of power, but worth it to take this place down."
Danielle gasped in shock before the X-Men saw what she was looking at. They see Vlad get up and transform into his ghost form as he approached. The group stood up, ready to fight.
"You want to get to them, you have to go through us!" Scott snaps.
Vlad gets cocky as he said.
"If you insist."
The X-Men spread out as Vlad launched a ghost ray at Scott who counters with his optic blast. Jean uses her telekinesis to levitate a damaged pod and flings at Vlad who turns intangible as it passes him harmlessly. He grins before attempting to overshadow the redhead. However, the specter deflector shocks him as he cries in pain before backing away.
"We were prepared for this." Jean comments.
Pressing a button on her cuff bracelets to turn them on, Jean uses her telekinesis again, but this time on Vlad as he was lifted off the ground. Suddenly, she flings him around, making it seem like he was a pinball, ricoche all around the walls before the redhead slams him onto the floor.
As Vlad was getting up, Evan skateboards to get around and uses the Fenton Wrist Rays to get in several good shots on Vlad's knee, back, torso, and shoulder. While he was down, Kurt and Kitty hit him with the Fenton Rod and Fenton Lightsaber, respectively. With a combined strike, the two knock him towards Rogue, who was waiting for her turn. When Vlad got in range, the mutant goth girl threw a punch, knocking him back onto the floor.
Vlad groaned as he slowly stood up while palming his forehead uncomfortably.
"Okay, guys! Let's finish this!" came Scott's voice.
As the X-Men got ready to end the fight, Rogue got in the way with a raised arm as she said
"No! Ya'll back off!"
"But Rogue..." Kitty began.
"Ah said back off." Rogue turns to Vlad with anger before she cracked her knuckles. "He's mahne!"
Rogue clenched her fists before charging at Vlad. The evil half-ghost threw a punch at her, but she blocked it and then delivered a roundhouse kick to the knee, making bend out of reflex. Instantly, Rogue uppercut her opponent, knocking him back 3 feet away from her. As Vlad got up, Rogue draws her sidearm, before her opponent tries to blast her.
Reacting faster than anticipated, Rogue bobbed to the right before she quickly fired her weapon. The blast hits Vlad directly in the eyes as he cries in pain while covering them with his hands and stumbled backwards. Rogue tossed her sidearm aside before charging at Vlad and then delivered a series of punches and kicks to him. The X-Men were shellshocked watching their teammate unleash her fury, even Danielle was stunned as she thought
"Wow! Look at her go!"
To Vlad, he was unable to keep up or defend himself from his assailant. Every blow that this girl delivered felt like she was using brass knuckles and steel toe shoes. Even some of his teeth were painfully knocked out.
Suddenly, Rogue punched Vlad directly in the solarplexus, knocking the wind out of him before she sent a roundhouse kick, knocking him down. Walking up to him, the mutant goth girl pulls out a spare specter deflector as she grimaced.
"Ya had it comin'."
She puts it on Vlad's waist, before it activates and causes him to transform back. He wakes up dazed as he comments.
"I can't focus my powers."
He looks up to see an angry Rogue before she grabs him, hauls him to make sure he was standing.
"Ah'm gonna warn ya once." she threatens. "Stay away from Danny, his family, and his friends."
Rogue pulls back her fist before sending a left hook. The impact caused Vlad to stumble before he hits head on the metallic wall with a clang. Vlad becomes dazed as he thought he was seeing stars before he weakly said.
"I see...sparkles. H...how pretty."
Finally, the man falls unconscious. Rogue walks back towards the group while picking up her discarded sidearm and holstering it between the specter deflector and the back of her waist.
"Dang, girl!" Evan exclaims. "You really let him have it. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that it was personal."
Rogue glared at Evan and asked in a threatening tone.
"Ya wanna make somethin' of it, porcupahne?"
Evan backs away with his hands up and sheepishly said.
"No thanks. Not at all."
Danielle looked at Rogue with a raised eyebrow before she thought.
"I like her. She's feisty!"
"But we're not done here yet." Scott said. "Kitty. See if you can phase through those machines so he can't use them again."
"Like, I'm on it." Kitty said.
"Jean? Can you do a mental damage control?"
Jean nodded before she entered Vlad's mind while he was still unconscious while Kitty phased through all of the machinery, causing the circuitry to pop and spark, rendering them useless. Once she was done, the brunette looked at her foot to see that there was ectoplasm.
"Ew! That is like, so gross!" she comments in disgust.
Jean finished her task before she looked at Scott.
"Okay. He was aware of the Institute, but I altered his memory, so he believes it doesn't exist. Also, he believes that our gadgets gave some of us powers. So he won't know that we're mutants."
"Good." Scott said before he looked at Danny. "I think you should talk to your parents about..." he glances at a still unconscious Vlad. "Him."
"I couldn't agree more." Danny said before he looked at Danielle next to him. "Let's all go home."
The X-Velocity enters the hangar before landing. The vehicle powers down completely. As the X-Men and Danielle get off, the door opens to reveal Jazz, Jack, and Maddie with Logan, Ororo, Hank, and Professor Xavier right behind them. The Fenton family rushed to Danny as they dogpiled him with a hug.
"Danny! I'm so glad you're safe!" Maddie exclaims as she sheds tears, completely relieved that her son is home.
"You had us really worried, son!" Jack adds as he wiped away tears.
"For real, little bro." Jazz said.
However, they were both interrupted by Logan growling in anger before they see the burly Canadian glaring at Danielle.
"You got a lot of guts coming back here." Logan grimaced.
However, Rogue intervenes as she said.
"Logan, stop! She was being used! Leave her alone."
Logan snorted before he said.
"Fine. Whatever."
It was then that Danny spoke up.
"Mom? Dad? Can we all go to the professor's office? I need to talk to you about Vlad."
What Danny said got the attention of all the adults before everyone went to Professor Xavier's office. Once they all got inside, Jack and Maddie turned to face their son.
"What is it that you want to tell us about Vlad?" Maddie asks in curiosity.
Danny was nervous at first, knowing his mother's fury before he said.
"I think you and Dad should sit down first."
Jack and Maddie were confused before they took a seat on the chairs that were in front of Xavier's desk. Danny takes a deep breath before he said.
"Okay. Here's what you should know about Vlad."
Several Minutes Later...
Jack and Maddie were red with fury as the Fenton woman screeched in anger
"HE WHAT?!"
Danny cringed before he regained composure and said.
"Yeah. The burglaries, overshadowing millionaires, trying to persuade me to disown Dad, targeting Dad, hitting on you, putting a bounty on my head, releasing the Ghost King, turning Jazz against me, infecting Sam and Tucker with ecto-acne, all the way up to cloning Danielle from my DNA."
"How did he get ghost powers in the first place?!" Jack demands in curiosity.
"He got them through the same I did." Danny answered. "But it was during the time when you and Mom were in college."
"Why didn't you tell us, Danny?" Maddie asks with worry.
"Well, I had to keep my secret from you and Dad for the obviously past reason." Danny says. "Even if you knew beforehand, what was I suppose to say, like Hey mom, your friend is after your heart, wants to become my new dad after killing the love of your life?" he crossed his arms. "Hard to find the right words on that topic."
"Well, that took a disturbing turn." Logan comments in disgust.
"Indeed, it has." Ororo comments equally disgusted.
Hank cupped his chin as he states.
"Well, now it all makes sense on how those clones were created."
Professor Xavier nodded at Hank before he said to Danny.
"Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Daniel."
"So what do we do about Vlad?" Logan asks, itching to get his hands on him.
"For now, nothing." Danny advises. "Not until I figure out what he's planning. Besides, he's probably gonna come to Bayville, now that he knows that I'm here." he turns to his parents. "If you see him somewhere in public, don't let on that you know about his true colors."
Jack and Maddie nodded in understanding. Soon, the Fenton man looks at Danielle and said.
"Now we just have to worry about one more thing." he looks at Professor Xavier. "Could she stay here?"
Danielle was shocked when she heard Jack ask the professor that particular question.
"She's more than welcomed to stay at the Institute." Xavier replies before glancing at Danielle. "If she so chooses."
"But...I got Danny kidnapped." Danielle said with hesitation. "And yet, you want me to live here?"
"We know you mean no real harm, sweetie, now that we know the truth." Maddie assures. "Besides, we would not force you out to fend for yourself."
"But I'm just a clone." Danielle says.
"Be that as it may, you're a Fenton! First and foremost!" Jack said. "No one can say otherwise."
Danielle felt like she wanted to cry at that moment. Despite what she did, these people were willing to make arrangements to have her stay with them. Wiping her tears away, she hugs Jack and Maddie as she said
"I'll stay."
Professor Xavier smiled warmly before he said.
"Welcome to the Institute, Danielle."
"You can call me Dani, with an "I".
"We have a little busy day tomorrow." Maddie comments.
Logan smirked before he asked.
"Planning to adopt shorty, eh?"
"Hey!" Dani snaps in protest.
"Yep. That's the plan." Jack replies.
"Well, since Danielle is a clone as well, I'm going to create some serum that she'll have to take once a month, using the remains from the other clones as a basis." Hank comments. "Just until I find a safe and permanent solution to fully stabilize her."
"Very well." Professor Xavier said. "You're all dismissed."
After everybody departed from the office, Ray runs into the group before he sees Danielle again.
"Oh. The little brat again."
Danielle frowns again before she walks up to Ray and kicks him in the shin as he bent his knee while hopping away on one foot.
"Ow! Ooh! Ooh! OW!"
As snickers were going around, Rogue smirked before she messed with the girl's hair and said
"You'll beh just fahne."
A thought crossed Scott's mind as he said to Danny.
"By the way, Danny." he sees Danny turn around to face him. "Vlad calls you Little Badger at times?"
Danny was horror-stricken before he chuckled nervously while rubbing the back of his head.
While Kitty and Jean giggled, Kurt and Evan were trying to hold back their laughter. However, Rogue had a mischievous smirk before she said.
"Oh. Ah'm gonna get a lot of mahleage out of this one."
And done! Stay tuned for the next chapter where the X-Men duke it out with the Brotherhood for a second time and when an enemy of the X-Men returns.
A/N: I plan on doing a one-shot spin-off where Dani steals Hank's stash of twinkies constantly before getting caught by Logan. It'll take some time and brainstorming, but I'll get it done.
