The Abandoned Castle,
Inside an old filthy lab, Genesis was putting the final touches in the robot monster that was lying on a flat metallic table.
"You better be creative this time.". Genesis glanced behind him to see Blaze standing at the door.
"The last monster was technically another Gridnoid, so you better make something good.", Blaze sneered before he turned around to leave just as Kaguya walked in. She glanced at Blaze before she walked towards Genesis and asked him.
"What is with him?".
"The usual I'm better than you all and the favourite of Akuma persona.", Genesis rolled his eyes making Kaguya scoff.
"That is what happens when you have a child acting adult with us.", She crossed her arms as she knelt on the wall, "I still don't see why Akuma-sama keeps him around.".
"He thinks he is actually important, not some means to an end like all of us.", Genesis said making Kaguya snort.
"Maybe you men are, but I know, I am important. I mean, he isn't going to find a better Slasher than me.", Kaguya smirked making Genesis snort at her.
"Well in that sense, Kisame is the best Hitman and gangster, I'm the greatest scientist, and Reaper is the greatest Hunter. So we all are important, but Blaze.", Genesis explained before he shrugged, "But Akuma-sama is a smart person, and he wouldn't allow Blaze to be his general unless he has something to offer.".
"Whatever, Kisame can't stand him, so I hope whatever he as to offer can keep him alive.", Kaguya commented making Genesis snort.
"Now that is a fight I would like to see. Ah, I'm done.".
Kaguya walked towards the table to observe the new monster. It was a lean and toned male humanoid silver robot. 3 sharp spikes present on each forearm and leg, with numerous small spikes on the rest of its torso, the red core present in the middle of its chest. The head had two goat-like horns present.
"What is with the hedgehog theme?", Kaguya asked with a raised eyebrow.
"I think Hedgefight will be great to face the inexperienced Rangers.", Genesis said proudly making Kaguya squint at him.
'Hedgefight?', She thought, 'Seriously?'
The Spaceship,
"You're gettin' better at dis, Kudo!", Heiji cried as he spared with Shinichi using their Neo Striker Blades. The Rangers and their mentors were in the dojo room, with Heiji training the Rangers first on using a blade. Makoto, Ran, and Masumi got the main idea pretty quick, but Heiji took some time with Shinichi, and now he was getting better.
"Thanks for being patient with me, even though you have anger issues.", Shinichi added with a smirk making Heiji snort.
"I don'.", He said as he shook his head.
"And now training with the blades is finished today.", Kaiden said, "We've started practicing some mixed martial arts and learned some marksmanship and swordsmanship, with Kudo-san, Hattori-san, Sera-san, and Makoto-san, helping in teaching.", he said.
"Yeah, Heiji is great at swords.", Makoto complimented.
"Says da strongest guy among us.", Heiji complimented back.
"I always thought Jeet Kune Do was awesome yet hard to learn by just watching Bruce Lee, but you made it seem simple Sera.", Shinichi commented.
"Says the best marksman here.", Masumi smiled back.
The four Rangers were busy complimenting each other, with the only Ranger remaining, standing away from them. Ran looked at each Ranger with mixed feeling. Heiji was a great detective and a Kendo champion, Makoto as an unbeatable Karate champion, Masumi was a detective and a Jeet Kune Do master, while Shinichi was a great detective and marksman. That is if we don't count what Shinichi has been through as Conan.
Sure, she did tell Shinichi last week, that everyone was special. But now looking at her teammates, Ran felt incredibly inferior to the others. And that is why, whenever Kaiden asked her to help him with the training, she would decline and come up with any excuse.
"Don't you think it's about time you helped me like the others, Mouri-san?", Kaiden smiled friendly at Ran.
Ran blinked a few times before she walked two steps back. "But we did practice Karate with Makoto, I won't be teaching you something different.", She said with an anxious smile.
"But not everyone fights the same.", Masumi pointed out as she and Heiji seemed confused while Makoto and Shinichi seemed to understand.
Shinichi and Makoto shared a look before Makoto asked, "You don't think that still affects her, right?".
"Maybe a part of it, but when I look in her eyes, I see a whole another reason.", Shinichi shrugged.
"Come on Ran. I'm excited to see you fight.", Akira encouraged.
"Yeah, I bet you'll be amazing just like the others.", Static beamed.
Ran shook her head several times before she started walking away, only for the alarm to go off. And the monitor automatically displayed the monster attacking with Gridnoids.
"Akira, Static, go prepare the items.", Kaiden ordered making both salute before leaving the room.
"Rangers, you all go, but Mouri-san.", Kaiden said.
"Come on Kaiden-sensei, just because Ran refused doesn't mean you wont let her go with us.", Shinichi defended.
"Yeah take it easy, Man. We still got time.", Heiji said.
Kaiden repeated his order, "All go, but Mouri-san.".
"But-", Shinichi tried to interfere only for Kaiden to speak sternly.
"All go, but Mouri-san.", He stressed seriously making everyone shiver while Ran was worried.
"HAI!", The four Rangers chorused before they teleported in their respective lights.
Beika City,
"What is with the many spikes?", Masumi said as she saw the new monster standing alone in the streets. She and the other Rangers were now morphed and ready to face the monster.
Hedgefight turned to the Rangers before he said in an incredibly fast voice, "I'mHedgefightPreparetodie!".
The Rangers sweat dropped before Heiji asked, "What did he-".
The Blue Ranger was interrupted by a punch that sent him flying. The other Rangers were shocked. They didn't even see Hedgefight move, so how did he do that.
Masumi charged towards the monster that now stood in Heiji's place and attempted to punch him. Hegefight dodged swiftly before he raised his leg to kick Masumi. The Pink Ranger raised her knee to block only to notice that it was a feint, and a Hedgefight was aiming for a hook, his spikes charging towards Masumi's face.
Masumi moved her head backwards, his spikes merely missing her face, before the leg he feinted with, ends up hitting her back in the chest. Masumi cried just as Makoto threw a heavy punch towards Hedgefight, with Shinichi raising his Neo Striker Gun.
"TooslowTooslow!", Hedgefight cried at both Rangers before he dodged both the blast and Makoto's punch. He sent a punch towards Makoto, who caught it, while Shinichi charged towards him with his Neo Striker Sword and swung it, but Hedgefight held the blade.
And suddenly, he sent short spikes from his chest toward the two Rangers. Both boys cried in pain as the spikes exploded once they hit their chests and sent them flying away, landing to where Masumi and Heiji were just getting up.
"Tooslow!Tooslow!NoonefasterthanHedgefightandknowshowtofight!", Hedgefight cheered as he shadowboxed in his place.
The four Rangers stood up as Shinichi said, "We need Ran.".
"Yeah, she might figure out his pattern.", Makoto nodded.
"What are you two talking about?", Masumi questioned.
"Ran has a great eye during fighting. She can figure out a fighter's weakness and fighting pattern in a short time.", Shinichi explained.
"She also is a Balanced Fighter Type, and can perfectly change between Offense and Defence at the right moment. Most fighters thought she was a Defence type, because she used to read them, before she charged into offense.", Makoto explained.
"An' Kaiden just had ta keep da one who can defeat dis thing away.", Heiji grumbled angrily. And suddenly, a white portal appeared behind Hedgefight, with a large group of Gridnoids appearing.
"Oh great…", Shinichi groaned.
The Spaceship,
Kaiden turned towards Ran, who was avoiding his eyes.
"Self-deappreciation is not something a martial artist should have.", Kaiden said making Ran flinch.
"What makes you think I feel any self de appreciation?", Ran said in denial.
"I've asked you several times just like the others to help me with training. So everyone can share experiences.", Kaiden said, "And you always denied.".
Kaiden then crossed his arms as he said, "And I definitely noticed how you've been staring at your friends whenever they teach or when they are complimenting each other.".
"You think you are not as good as they are.", Kaiden said the thought inside Ran's mind.
"And how am I good as them?", Ran asked with a sad voice, "Heiji is the great detective of the west and a kendo champion. Makoto is the prince of attack in Karate and martial arts. Masumi is a great detective and a Jeet Kune Do master. And Shinichi…. Shinichi isn't just the great detective of east and a good marksman, he faced the men of the black organization, and so many criminals alone.".
"I'm just a Karate champion with no adventure or detective work.", Ran said as she gave her back to Kaiden, "I don't feel jealous of them, nor do I wish that to change. But I just wish I was as good as them.".
Kaiden remained silent a few moments before he smiled sadly at the Yellow Ranger.
"I've seen your memories. And you've won a good number of tournaments, becoming the champion of the Kanto Region. But you feel less because you couldn't figure out Shinichi as quick as the others…. And that day, two years ago.", He said making Ran freeze in her place.
"Was that…. Included in the memories of the medallion?", Ran mumbled slowly. Kaiden had explained two days ago to the Rangers how the medallions exactly chose them, just like he had told Shinichi a week ago. At Kaiden's nod, she sighed heavily.
"Then you definitely understand why with this, alongside Shinichi's situation, do I feel like that.", Ran mumbled.
"Indeed. When we think we are good enough, an incident that could happen that make us doubt our abilities.", Kaiden said, "I was once like you.".
"You?", Ran asked surprised, "But you're so confident and wise, so that doesn't make sense!".
"Back on Eden, I was the worst student at the Sages School. We would train on how to use our Chi, our special powers, and the best of us would reach great places, including becoming a mentor of the Rangers and guardian of the medallions. Chi awakening happens at the age of 10, I didn't awaken mine until 15 so I was a complete loser.", Kaiden chuckled, remembering his old days.
"Then what happened?", Ran asked curiously.
"I didn't pay attention to my dark thoughts that told me to give up, nor to the people who ridiculed me. I only listened to those who supported, and most importantly, I only focused on my goal of becoming a great Sage to help people.", Kaiden said, "I accepted that I had some problems and faults, but I decided to change them to reach my goal. What is your goal?".
'My… goal?', Ran thought, surprised by Kaiden's question. She hadn't thought about that in a while.
"I want… to become the best female Martial Artist. And I want to join the Police or the Secret Police, to protect people and stop bad guys.", Ran answered honestly.
"And according to you, you aren't good enough in martial arts nor deduction, so what do you think you should do?".
"Accept and admit, that I may not be that smart in deduction. And that I slacked a bit the past two years in training.", Ran said with a heavy breath before she looked determinedly at Kaiden, "And work on improving those to reach my goals, to be better.".
Kaiden smiled proudly at Ran, "Now you get it. Now go to your team.".
The four Rangers fell crying on the floor again. Every time, they try to fight a Gridnoid, Hedgefight would take the chance and attack them.
"Timetokill! Timetokill!", Hedgefight before he charged towards the Rangers.
Only for his face to be met by a yellow fist.
"Ran!", Shinichi cried.
Ran, now morphed, had teleported in yellow light, just in time before Hedgefight could attack, and with enough time to land a punch.
"You okay guys?", Ran asked glancing at her team, not wanting to let Hedgefight out of her sight.
"Thanks to Speedy Gonzalez here, No.", Masumi sneered as she got up.
"AnotherRangerAnotherRanger!", Hedgefight cried before he charged towards Ran. He attempted to throw some punches and kicks but Ran was able to dodge them, her eyes looking at every joint and limb he was moving, calculating his movement and pattern.
Ran smirked under her helmet once she noticed something. A weakness.
'His core glows rapidly before charging, and as the glowing slows down, his speed decreases, and at one point, he is too slow to even move or block.', Ran thought as she observed Hedgefight's core and his movements getting slower, 'So he depends more on surprise attacks and his spikes, he isn't exactly a real speedster. The time taken for his movement to be that slow is 2 minutes.'.
He performed a punch feint before attempting a swift kick, that Ran ducked, avoiding the spikes on his leg, and much to his surprise, Ran landed a strong uppercut, sending him flying away.
"No way!", Heiji cried happily.
"How?", Masumi asked surprised as she and the others approached Ran.
"He isn't a real speedster. His core charges and flows rapidly giving him speed, but in 2 minutes, his core rapid glowing slows down, and so does his movement, until he reaches a point where he moves in slow motion.", Ran explained, "He throws random attacks, then a feint, then one heavy attack, with or without spikes.".
"Neechan, teach me how ta do dat.", Heiji said impressed.
"Same here.", Masumi added making Ran looked at them surprised.
"Told you my girl can do it!", Shinichi said proudly making Ran blush at his words.
"It's been a while since I've seen you doing that.", Makoto said friendly making Ran nod at him with a smile, understanding the meaning behind his words.
The Neomatrix communicator button glowed and when the Rangers pressed it, Static said happily, "And in honor of this happy moment, we've loaded through our systems, your primary weapons into the Neomatrix!".
"Press the diamond and say the weapons name, they will automatically appear in their melee mode, just say ranged mode for them to change. Pyro Burner, Hydro Vortex, Electro Shocker, Aero Hunter, and Geo Slammer.", Akira explained.
The Rangers did as they were told with each crying their weapon name.
"Pyro Burner!", Shinichi cried. A red scythe appeared in his hand. The blade was silver with the rest of the body in red.
'A scythe? Really? Just what I needed next to having dead bodies whenever I am around.', Shinichi deadpanned.
"Electro Shocker!", Ran cried. A yellow Bo staff appeared in her hand, with the middle being silver. At the end of both sides, were three pointed blades. Ran swung her new weapon with a smile, "This brings back memories.".
"Hydro Vortex!", Heiji cried. A katana sword appeared in his hand. The hand was blue with six gold diamonds, while the blade was glowing silver. Heiji smirked under his helmet as he held the sword with both his hands, "Now dat is what I'm talking about.".
"Aero Hunter!", Masumi cried. A glaive appeared in her hand with the blade being silver while the rest of the body was pink. Masumi eyed her weapon for a second before she smirked, "Not bad.".
"Geo Slammer!", Makoto cried. A double-headed hammer appeared in his hand. The body was silver while the large hammer parts were black.
"I feel like I'm back in the 1600s", Makoto sweat dropped at his new weapon.
"FightFightFight!", Hedgefight ordered the Gridnoids while pointing at the Rangers. The Gridnoids charged towards the Rangers, who looked at each other for a second, a smirk under their helmets before they charged towards them too.
Shinichi blocked with his weapon several punches and kicks from the Gridnoids before swinging the Scythe sideways, cutting a Gridnoid into two halves. He spun the Scythe before he swung it diagonally twice, cutting another two Gridnoids. Shinichi then swung his scythe again, but this time, he sent a fire slash towards a group of Gridnoids, cutting them and burning them all.
"Ranged Mode!", He cried. The scythe divided into two equal parts before transforming into two dual pistols, with the right pistol having the blade folded underneath the muzzle. Shinichi shot multiple fire blasts at the remaining Gridnoids, burning them all.
"I'm starting to like this.", Shinichi said as he spun his pistols, observing the burning Gridnoids.
Ran slammed her Spear on a Gridnoid's head, smashing it, before she stabbed another in its core. She pulled her Spear and spun it with one hand professionally before she swung it sideways, sending an electricity wave towards the Gridnoids, electrifying the Gridnoids before they exploded. Ran then charged towards the last group, but she was so fast that she literally was a yellow blur that was stabbing the remaining Gridnoids, before they all exploded.
Ran stood in her place as she rubbed her head. "I need to train on that.", She said dizzily before she shook her head to focus back on the battle.
"Ranged Mode!", She cried. The spear divided into two equal parts, with the blades extending a bit while the handle shortening, with a silver circle attached at each end, resembling dual Sai.
Ran twisted the Sai blades as she eyed the Gridnoids. "You are all in trouble, I've trained with those too in the past.", She said before she charged in towards the Gridnoids and started thrusting her Sai in the red cores. Each time her Sai would pierce the red core, the Gridnoid would be electrified. Ran then jumped high in the air before threw her Sai at the last two Gridnoids, piercing them in the core, electrifying them before they exploded. Ran opened her hands and the Sai flew back to her hands.
Like a real Samurai, Heiji swung his katana, cutting Gridnoids here and there, a wide smirk present on his face. He swung his sword once more, cutting off the heads of three Gridnoids who were standing next to each other.
"Ranged Mode!", He cried. The katana divided into half from top of the blade. One of the halves moved below the other before twisting, with both edges of the blade slightly curving, with a blue energy string connecting between both edges, forming a long bow.
Heiji stared at his bow confused. "I wonder how Static was able ta make a Katana become a Bow.", He said before he took an archer's position. Once he pulled back a string, a blue energy arrow appeared. He let go off the string, shooting the arrow. The arrow pierced through a Gridnoid's core.
Heiji then thought of 3 arrows as he pulled a string, and to his surprise, 3 energy arrows appeared, and he shot them at the three remaining Gridnoids.
"Not an archer really, but I'm startin' ta like dis.", Heiji admired his weapon.
Masumi swung her glaive sideways, cutting of 3 Gridnoids before stabbing another in its core. She spun the glaive above her head as she turned around before swinging it diagonally, cutting a Gridnoid that was attempting to sneak on her from behind. She ran and then touched with the bottom of her weapon the ground, using it as a pole, to jump high above a group of Gridnoids, who jumped towards where she once stood, and fell face first.
"Ranged Mode!", She cried before her weapon changed and shifted into a Sniper Rifle. Masumi's smirk was from ear to ear as she held her rifle like an expert before shooting, using air bullets, every remaining Gridnoid in their core. The air bullets were so strong they pierced through the Gridnoids.
"Bullseye!", She cheered as she rested her rifle on her shoulder, the same way her eldest brother always did.
Makoto swung his hammer, the same way he would swing a bo staff, smashing any Gridnoid coming through. He noted, that despite how large and heavy the weapon must be, it was pretty easy for him to hold and use. He saw a group of Gridnoids charging towards him and he had an idea.
He slammed the hammer on the ground, causing the road to crack in the direction of the Gridnoids before metal spikes burst from under them, impaling them all.
"Ranged Mode!", He cried. The body separated from the hammer part, before the left hammer part attached to the body, resembling a clubber, but the other part of the hammer glowed black, becoming a cannon. Makoto placed his hand on the hammer's throat and noticed that it can be moved. He moved it backwards and let go, noticing that it returned to its place.
And suddenly, the black glowing shot an energy blast once Makoto let go off the throat, destroying a Gridnoid. Makoto blinked a few times before he repeated his action but didn't let go off the throat, only for the Cannon to shoot a large beam that destroyed the remaining Gridnoids. He let go off the throat and the beam stopped.
"That's not actually a bad idea.", Makoto said eyeing the cannon.
"KillKillKill!", Hedgefight cried angrily before he charged towards the Rangers angrily, only for Ran's daggers to be thrown and stab him in the right arm and left leg, electrifying him.
"Just shut up.", Ran said annoyed as she opened her hands and both Sai returned to her hands.
"Payback time.", Masumi said as she, Heiji, Makoto, and Shinichi aimed their weapons. Makoto shot a large beam, Heiji shot 3 arrows, while Shinichi and Masumi shot multiple blasts.
Hedgefight squeaked and yelped with every attack before he fell backward, his core now cracked.
"Combine your weapons!", Static said, "The algorithm of the Neo Smasher has been added to your Neomatrix. Follow my order.".
"Makoto, hold the geo cannon and aim it forward.", Static said and Makoto did as he said.
"Heiji, place the bow sideways in the middle at the end of the beginning of the cannon, before the throat..", Static said and Heiji did so, noting that his weapon attached magnetically to the cannon.
"Shinichi, Ran, place your weapons on the bow on both sides. Masumi, place your rifle sideways on top of the bow in the middle.", Static said. Masumi placed her rifle first, Shinichi then placed his pistols on both sides, followed by Ran placing her daggers on both sides.
The new combined weapon, the Neo Smasher, glowed in their respective lights for a second before Shinichi held the weapon from the cannon's hand, and aimed it at Hedgefight, and used his other hand to pull back the throat. Ran placed her hand on the right part of the weapon, Heiji doing the same on the left. Masumi knelt and placed her hand below the weapon on the right, Makoto doing the same on the left.
"Neo Smasher, ready!", They cried as the Neo Smasher glowed in their colors as it charged for the final blast.
Hedgefight got up and started running away as he cried, "NoNoNo!".
"Savage Finisher!", They cried as Shinichi released the throat, the cannon shooting a multiple colored beam that once it hit Hedgefight, he immediately exploded into multiple pieces.
Shinichi's raised the cannon as everyone stood back, the weapon disappearing in their respective light. "Ready for round two?.", he asked, and then the ground started rumbling.
"Why do you think we didn't celebrate or admire our weapons?", Masumi said as they saw Hedgefight returning as a large robot monster.
The Rangers then summoned their Zords, "Savage Zords, Unleash!".
"Zords Combine!".
Leon, Raiga, Azure, Suzaku, and Taurus, just like the first time, came out of the Neomatrix, became large mecha, and combined to form the Savage King Megazord, Partial Formation.
Hedgefight immediately charged towards the Megazord, catching them off guard, and started sending punches and kicks angrily towards them using the spikes.
The Rangers grimaced as the Megazord rumbled before feeling the pain from the sharp spikes in Hedgefight's punches and kicks.
"I've had enough with you.", Ran growled as the Tiger hand held Hedgefight's fist, and electrified him. It let go off him before it sent a heavy punch to his jaw, making the robot fly away, and fall on the ground, heavily dizzy.
"This one was for what you did to my friends.", Ran added.
Hedgefight started to get up slowly, and the Rangers noticed the red core no longer as it used too.
"Looks like neechan's electricity ruined his core, so he can't be as fast as was.", Heiji deduced.
"Then let's take this chance and finish him.", Shinichi said as the Megazord pulled out the Neo Striker Blasters. It held the pressed the button as the blasters started charging in colorful lights.
Hedgefight slowly started to turn around, wanting to run away, only for the Megazord to release his hold, and send a large beam from both blasters, destroying Hedgefight into multiple pieces.
The Rangers cheered and high fived each other in the Megazord as Shinichi smiled, "Savage Rangers, Victory is ours!".
After the battle, the Rangers were back to the ship, de morphed, now learning from Ran for the first time. Heiji was sparring with Ran while Akira took on Makoto, and that left Shinichi with Masumi.
"OW!", Heiji cried as Ran landed a swift kick to his side.
Ran shook her head. "You were too focused on my hands Heiji.", She said, "You must keep your eyes moving on every part of your opponent's body, especially the joints. You must also check the speed and angle, to find out if it's an attack or a feint.".
Heiji rubbed his side as he stood in a fighting position against Ran. "I can only do dat wid a Sword. I'm not a fist fighter, really.", He explained.
"There is a first time for everything. I can personally do it, but I'm not as fast as Ran.", Makoto added as he dodged a roundhouse kick from Akira before he sent a punch, only for Akira to block it with a confident smile.
"You got some strength in there, didn't know Humans could be that strong.", Akira complimented making Static snort.
"Says the guy who his girlfriend threw him over her shoulder once.", He mocked making Akira glare daggers at him.
"I still wanna know who she is.", Shinichi smirked at Akira before he ducked to avoid a kick from Masumi.
"In your dreams.", Akira mumbled.
"And that's enough training for today.", Kaiden said making everyone stop sparring.
"Tomorrow, we will continue with Ran, before you start practicing your weapons with me, and since you all experienced your elements' power for the first time, we will work on that too.", Kaiden said.
Heiji stretched a bit as he said, "Good, 'cause after tomorrow I've got a Kendo tournament. I need some proper rest.".
"Really?! Good luck then!", Static gave him a thumbs up.
"I can't leave the spaceship, but I do wish you luck, Hattori-san.", Kaiden said.
"I've got something to do after tomorrow, so I won't be able to attend.", Akira said apologetically but Static looked at him suspiciously.
"What?".
"Mind your own business!".
"We'll be there then.", Masumi said.
"Better not get your ass kicked Hattori.", Shinichi smirked making Heiji scoff.
"Yeah right.", He said as he thought. 'Okita isn't an easy opponent though…'.
Yes, I was inspired by RWBY's weapons even though I didn't watch the show. Also note that Chapters 1-11 will be Ranger centric mainly, with their lives involved or any bad traits that they need to change or control.
Then we will dive into the lives of other characters around them, and start writing the plotlines and issues Aoyama-sensei hasn't written (some have been written during the first 11 chapters, like Shinichi telling Ran the truth)
