Chapter Seven
"She has the lungs of a dragon," Harry laughed as Maegor hurried from the bed and over to where their daughter was crying in her basket.
"I…" whatever Maegor had been about to say was smothered by the almighty yawn that he let out. "What?" he asked a little defensively as Harry started laughing.
"That was like Balerion roaring," Harry managed to say through his laughter.
"Cheeky," Maegor grumbled, but he could not stop the smile from touching his lips, especially when he looked down at their daughter who had stopped crying now, but was looking at him a little mulishly.
"She already has you wrapped around her little finger," Harry said fondly, taking her when Maegor held her out to him and settled her against his chest to feed her.
"Of course, she is perfect," Maegor smiled, settling down on the bed next to Harry and watching the two of them with so much obvious love on his face.
"You need to calm down on that, she is going to be beyond spoiled," Harry laughed cupping Maegor's face with his free hand.
"But she is perfect," Maegor huffed, looking down at their daughter with warm eyes.
"We need her to be able to fit her head through doors though," Harry laughed, "and you can deal with her as a teenager when she thinks she is walking perfection,"
"But she is," Maegor sighed happily, looking at her, making Harry laugh even more. He pulled Maegor to him and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips. "Did I mention how amazing, utterly amazing you are?" he asked looking into Harry's bright green eyes.
"You haven't really stopped for the last 3 days," Harry smiled, pulling him in to press their foreheads together.
"You are, carrying her, being so strong in the last few weeks, giving birth to her, you're just amazing," Maegor smiled.
"And you are sappy," Harry chuckled.
"I think you are the only person that would say that to me," Maegor snorted.
Their daughter squawked a little against Harry's chest and wiggled a little in his grip.
"I think she is agreeing with me," Harry smiled sitting her up and passed her to Maegor who took her to wind her. They had started this little routine pretty quickly, Maegor had asked the first time that he had watched Harry feeding their daughter and admitted that he wanted to help, he wanted to be involved in as much of her care as possible, they built this pattern between them.
Harry watched with soft eyes as Maegor carefully rubbed and patted their daughter's back to wind her, his purple eyes drinking her in, he couldn't seem to get enough of her, Harry often found him just staring at her with awe on his face, watching her every movement with so much pride. Harry had found himself thinking probably a dozen times throughout their marriage so far that he could not love Maegor anymore than he already did, and yet he always seemed to find himself thinking it again.
"There we go," Maegor smiled, handing her back to Harry.
"I am a little worried, about your mother," Harry said softly as he settled his daughter against his chest again.
"I am as well," Maegor sighed looking at their child. "She has not held her, or been to see her,"
"Mum said that she is busy ruling and keeping things moving for us, but still," Harry bit his lip.
"I do not know what to say to her," Maegor admitted.
"Maybe she just needs a little time? After everything that has happened?" Harry suggested.
"Maybe," Maegor frowned a little.
"Here," Harry passed their daughter back to him, wanting to rid him of the expression.
"Your Majesties," the Dragon Handlers bowed as they stepped into the room, though their eyes eagerly went to the basket that Maegor was carrying, each of them trying to get a look at the baby inside, one of the younger handlers went up on his toes a little to try and see, at least until his mentor tugged him back down and shot him a scolding look.
"You have the eggs?" Maegor asked eagerly.
"We do," The Head Handler motioned forward and between the rest of the handlers present and the King's Guard they brought forward several pans full of burning coal, each with a Dragon egg at the centre of it.
"How do you pick?" James asked Maegor curiously looking over the mixture of eggs.
"It is the one that feels right," Maegor said.
"And if there isn't one, that means that they are likely to choose a Dragon that already lives, yes?" Severus asked curiously.
"Correct," Maegor nodded.
"What if it is more than one egg?" Sirius asked.
"There has never been a rider that has had more than one Dragon, they can ally themselves to you, but a Dragon Rider will only ever ride one dragon, even if the Dragon passes, they will never ride again," Maegor explained.
He looked thoughtfully over the eggs in front of him, touching his hand to his bearded chin as he looked over them thoughtfully.
"How do you know that the egg is right for the child though?" Severus asked.
"We just know," Maegor hummed.
"Shush, he is concentrating," Harry scolded when James opened his mouth.
"This one," Maegor pointed. "What?" he turned at the sound that James and Sirius let out, Lily reached out to hit both of them over their heads.
"Are you sure you're not being romantic?" Daemon smiled a little.
"No, it is the right one," Maegor huffed, though his face said he knew exactly what they were talking about. Grunting to himself he stepped forwards and lifted the egg from the pan and settled it after a few moments of giving it a chance to cool into the basket he had placed down on the floor, all the eyes of the Dragon handlers going to the baby they could now see.
He straightened the green and black egg before smiling brightly at the squeal his daughter let out, as though she knew exactly what had been placed into her basket with her.
"Her dragon?" Harry asked brightly.
"Yes, it will hatch for her," Maegor nodded surely, looking with pride down at his daughter, imagining her riding a green and black dragon one day.
Harry smiled at him, reaching out and taking his hand, before looking around at the group with them, lacking one important person.
"I can't believe it, our Granddaughter, a Dragon rider," James laughed.
"Never in a million years could I have dreamt that would happen when I was a young girl myself," Lily laughed in agreement.
"I can't wait to see it!" Sirius beamed.
"I hope I am not disturbing you," Harry said, walking into Visenya's office without knocking.
The Dowager Queen stood and opened her mouth to protest, looking a little shocked, but then her eyes locked onto the basket in Harry's hands.
"I asked Daemon to distract Maegor, and then asked Sirius to distract Daemon to make sure that Maegor is truly distracted," Harry said, shutting the door behind himself and walking over to her desk.
"And why the need for all the distraction?" Visenya asked absently, her eyes not leaving the basket that was now sitting on her desk, or more importantly the baby sleeping within it.
"You have not been around much since her birth. I know you are ruling the country to give myself and Maegor time together, and with her, which I really do appreciate, but you have not been to see her much," Harry said softly.
"As you say, I have been busy," Visenya wrenched her eyes away, but Harry could see that it was difficult for her.
"You have been avoiding her," Harry said the accusation gently.
"I have been busy," Visenya repeated.
"Too busy to see your Granddaughter?" Harry asked.
"She has your family around her, and they will need to return home for a little while at some point, I am letting them have time with her," Visenya shook her head.
"But none of them are you," Harry said and smiled when she looked at him confused. "She needs you as well,"
"I am not…" Visenya's eyes dropped to the baby again and something seemed to break inside of her. "I did not believe you when you said she would be fine,"
"I understand why, and I know that it was not a slight against me, I am not angry at you," Harry shook his head.
"I am angry at myself," Visenya shook her head.
"Maegor lost his first son, you lost your first grandchild, not being able to believe that everything would be ok when faced with all the facts that we were faced with, I can not blame you for that," Harry shook his head.
"I…" Visenya reached out her hand towards the basket but then clenched it into a tight first before she could touch the baby.
"There is something else?" Harry asked softly, seeing the torment on her stern face.
"I keep thinking of Aegon, what he would have thought of her," Visenya admitted softly. "I remember the joy on his face at the announcement of each of Aenys' babes, I remember the joy on his face when he held them. When he held Rhaena for the first time it was like some joy had come back to him after Rhaenys' death. I can't help but think that there would have been half that joy if he saw her, if he held her. I don't want to infect her with that," Visenya admitted.
Harry reached into the basket and lifted his daughter from it, moving around the desk until he was standing in front of Visenya, her purple eyes that were so like Maegor's locked onto the tiny baby in his arms with a hunger and a love that could not be hidden.
"She is not Aegon's granddaughter!" Harry said firmly, and Visenya looked up at him confused, meeting those fiery green eyes that had not lost their blaze since everything had been found out about the poisoning, they instead seemed to burn with a determined fire now that would not dim.
"What?" She asked.
"She is not Aegon the Conqueror's Granddaughter. She is the daughter of Maegor I and she is the Granddaughter of Queen Visenya," Harry said firmly before pressing her into Visenya's arms. "That is the birthright I want for her, that is what I want her to know as she grows,"
"I have already let her down," Visenya shook her head but she stared down into the purple and green eyes of the baby that was now staring up at her.
"There are a million first for her that you will be there for, and there will be other babies to be at the Dragon egg choosing for, don't deny yourself these things because of him, please," Harry touched her elbow gently.
"She is perfect," Visenya breathed, tears filling her eyes as she stared down at the tiny baby.
"Don't you start that, Maegor is already working on convincing her she can walk on water," Harry chuckled, but his expression was gentle and warm.
"She is though, my Granddaughter….I….I did not think that I would be given this chance, to hold my Grandchild in my arms," Visenya admitted, looking at Harry and finding understanding green eyes staring back at her.
"The first of a few," Harry promised rather than said, and Visenya chuckled before blinking back down at her granddaughter when she wiggled and babbled in her arms in response to the sound.
"Thank you, for everything that you have done for this family, thank you," she sighed, drinking in the baby in her arms.
"You're my family, and I would do anything for family," Harry said gently.
"It is my turn to hold her!" Sirius growled.
"No, it is my turn!" James snapped back.
"I need to check her over," Severus scowled.
"That one is not going to work, I think you will all find that it is my turn to hold her!" Lily snorted.
"I won the chess match," Visenya stepped in.
"Hey!" They all huffed when Maegor reached down and lifted the baby from her crib and rested her on his large shoulder, unimpressed purple eyes looking down on them all.
"She is my daughter," Maegor snorted.
"That doesn't count!" James shook his head.
"I am King," Maegor said with a raised eyebrow.
"I am Dowager Queen, doesn't count!" Visenya shook her head.
"Get lost the lot of you," Maegor huffed and turned away bobbing their daughter as she babbled and Harry laughed.
"I heard mutterings through the Court saying that she is a servant's daughter that we swapped out today," Maegor hummed as he bobbed up and down, rocking their daughter to sleep.
"Oh? Everyone still has their heads?" Harry asked curiously, looking up from the paperwork that he was filling in.
"I want to see their faces tomorrow when they see her," Maegor smirked.
"There is little denying she is our daughter," Harry chucked, putting his signature on the piece he had just read through before standing and stretching.
"She seems like she will be the perfect mix of us," Maegor smiled down as her green and purple eyes flickered shut.
"She is, I keep thinking about what she will look like at two, eight, ten, fifteen, twenty," Harry sighed happily, resting against Maegor as he too looked at their daughter.
"I can't wait to watch her grow and find out," Maegor hummed, leaning down to kiss Harry. "Together,"
"Together," Harry smiled.
"I don't know how you put up with the foolishness of these people," Sirius sighed walking into Daemon's office.
"I did not hear a knock," Daemon huffed looking up from the papers in front of him.
"That is because I did not knock," Sirius grinned, dropping down into the chair in front of Daemon's desk.
"Why are they foolish now?" Daemon sighed, choosing the better part of valour, and knowing it would be pointless to argue with the other man. He set his quill down however when a truly annoyed expression crossed Sirius' face.
"I had to fight from stabbing someone when I overheard them saying that it was a shame that after everything that Harry and Maegor went through, it was all for a girl," Sirius scowled.
"I will enjoy watching their expressions when they realise," Daemon snorted.
"I think it may take a good while for it to sink in," Sirius growled.
"I manage to put up with them even more now because I want to be in my position when they find out that Daenerys is going to be Queen Daenerys I," Daemon chuckled.
"I may stick around a little myself, to see their faces, to make up for not being able to stab them," Sirius said casually.
"Always a good choice to make, even if you could get away with literal murder considering how much Harry loves you," Daemon licked his lips.
"No one else would help me bend the rules?" Grey eyes locked onto Daemon and pinned him in place.
"Depends on what rules that you wish to be bent," Daemon said.
"Why don't we find a few? And see what you think?" Sirius stood and leant over the desk, grabbing Daemon's robes and pulling him forward into a kiss.
"Are you sure about this?" James fretted a little.
"She will be just fine," Harry chuckled.
"But it is so high!" his father groaned.
"She will be fine," Harry reiterated. "Maegor will be holding her as well, so she will be even safer,"
Owen, Loral and the other Guards exchanged amused looks as Maegor puffed up slightly hearing those words.
"Ugh, I am going to be having kittens for hours," James whined but he climbed into the saddle of his horse.
"See you soon," Harry waved cheerfully.
"Please make sure my Granddaughter is in one piece!" James partly demanded and partly begged before he rode off.
"He has always been a drama queen," Lily rolled her eyes before kissing Harry's cheek and then Maegor's, "have fun!" she said before climbing into the carriage waiting for her, tugging Severus and Sirius in with her who was both flapping a little about the dangers.
"She kissed me too," Maegor touched his cheek.
"She thinks a lot of you," Visenya smiled, coming to stand beside he and Harry, Daenerys in her arms.
"She does?" Maegor smiled a little.
"We have been having evening talks, getting to know each other better, she is wonderful company," Visenya nodded. "She thinks a great deal about you,"
"How could she not," Harry smiled at his husband.
"We have plenty to talk about when it comes to complimenting each other's children," Visenya said and smiled a little when Harry turned wide green eyes to her. "Come, let us take her on her first flight,"
Maegor carefully took Daenerys from his mother, strapping her to his chest, and then climbed onto Balerion's back, the dragon flattening himself as much as he could and holding extra still, sensing the precious burden his rider was carrying. Harry and Visenya climbed up the side of Balerion and Vhagar at the same time, once Maegor was in place, the two of them settled down for the flight.
"Ready?" Maegor asked as he patted Daenerys' back where she was shuffling restlessly against him.
"More than!" Harry laughed.
"Sōvēs," Maegor said encouragingly to Balerion, and the great Dragon, who seemed eager to fly with the newest member of the family, extended his wings with Vhagar, and the two of them took to the air.
The people below had filled the streets to watch the first flight of the baby Princess, even from far above the city where they were flying Harry could see the colourful banners and parties taking place, and the faint sound of cheers filled their ears as the two great dragons flew overhead.
Daenerys squealed happily against her father's chest at the sound of the Dragon's wings beating against the air and as the wind swept by them.
"She loves it," Harry laughed, turning in his seat to see his daughter.
"Of course she does, she is born for this," Maegor beamed proudly at his daughter. Daenerys seemed even more excited and the noises that she let out pulled the brightest grins to Harry and Maegor's faces.
When Maegor looked to the side he found his mother flying watching them, a joy on her face that he could not remember seeing for a long time, but something that he had seen growing in her every time that she held Daenerys.
Balerion and Vhagar twisted together in the air, dancing together and flying around the capital. Harry liked to imagine that he could feel their excitement of having a new generation with them, flying with them.
The two of them landed at the top of Rhaenys Hill, the normally empty area full of people, Lords and Ladies, Nobles and the common folk, all eager to see the newest Targaryen, the Princess of the Realm.
James, Lily, Sirius, Severus and Daemon were all waiting on the small stage that had been created there for today. Maegor, Harry and Visenya slid off of the dragons and to the ground. Once they were on solid flooring Maegor slipped the wrap from around himself and held Daenerys in his arms so that the crowd could see her.
There were awed gasps and mutterings from all around them as they made their way onto the stage where everyone could see the baby, and when they stood at the front of the stage a cheer went up at being able to see her properly, welcomes and congratulations being called out to them.
Daenerys scrunched her little nose and started crying at the sound of all of the noise hitting her, her tiny arms flailing. Maegor held her up a little more so that the crowd could clearly see her before passing her to Harry who wrapped her in a blanket, placing the small pair of ear covers that Turner had designed for just this purpose over her little ears, and carefully rocked her to soothe her.
"In celebration of my daughter's birth, I am announcing the beginning of buildingwork of the Dragon Pit, somewhere to house the Dragons of House Targaryen, including Princess Daenerys' future dragon. Today the first stone of the Dragon Pit will be laid in celebration of my Heir, Princess Daenerys," Maegor announced to the crowd.
A huge cheer went out amongst the crowd, all of them shouting and cheering, calling Maegor's name, his own and Daenerys', people were waving flags and throwing confetti in the air.
"Also in celebration of our daughter's birth I am announcing the official opening as of today of Blackfyre Schools, three planned School locations have developed into seven due to the interest that we have received, each of them will be opening their doors today and allowing in those who wish to learn,"
The announcement was met with even more cheers and roars from the crowd, definitely more so from the common people than the nobles Harry noted, at least until Maegor held his hand up indicating that he had more to say.
"In the name of my King Consort, my husband, King Consort Harrison, I will be setting up a scholarship that can be applied for to get help in anything that is needed to attend one of the Schools, including transport to get there. This is a fund that can be applied to by anyone within the country and will be open to all, young, old, poor, rich, male or female," Maegor announced, and this time the cries of the people gathered around them were nearly twice as loud, though some were definitely not enthusiastic about the announcement.
Not that Harry noticed these, he had eyes only for Maegor, a beaming smile in place that he couldn't have hidden even had he wanted to at the surprise from his husband. Maegor turned and his face softened when he saw the smile. Turning fully he made his way over to Harry and cupped his face with one hand as the other wrapped around Daenerys safely inside her blanket as well.
"I thought about baubles and trinkets, jewels and all the other things that I could gift to you, but this seemed the thing that would mean the most to you," Maegor said as softly as he could with the crowd cheering and chanting their names.
"You know you did not have to do anything for me," Harry tilted his head up to look into those purple eyes.
"Have to? No. Want to, and did you deserve utterly for how strong, how amazing that you have been, for gifting me against all the odds of our amazing daughter, a child that I have longed for, for so long now, yes," Maegor said before bending to kiss Harry.
Harry chuckled against his mouth when the crowd seemed to go even more wild at the gesture, and when they turned to look people were bouncing up and down, smiling brightly at the royal couple.
"Come, time to head back," Maegor chuckled, taking Daenerys and strapping her onto his chest again as they walked towards Balerion and Vhagar, Visenya right behind them.
As Kings Landing disappeared underneath him, the brightly coloured crowd becoming specs and Balerion turned to take them for a longer fly than the one here, Vhagar right by their side, tilting her massive wings and then carrying them over their heads as Visenya smiled down on them, Harry wondered at what his life had become.
When he had been young and looked out of the windows of the Keep on the Lightning Isle he had sensed that life had a different path for him given the confirmation of his healing gifts and the fact that he was a carrier, but he had never imagined that it would take him here, flying on the greatest dragon on the world, with his husband, the King, seated behind him holding their precious and beloved daughter, the man who loved him and who he loved more than anything in this world.
Reaching out he wrapped his fingers over Maegor's where they were holding the reigns for Balerion, Maegor cast him a concerned look, but when he found nothing but joy and love on Harry's face he twined their fingers together around the reigns and dipped Balerion so that they could fly low over the waters of the Blackwater Bay, something that Harry loved doing.
"You will write won't you? And tell us how she is doing? Everything that she is doing? I want information on every spit bubble and sneeze!" James said as he hugged Daenerys close.
"Of course we will," Maegor nodded seriously.
"And you need only write and we will come and collect you to come stay, any time," Visenya nodded as she hugged Lily tightly.
"I can't believe Sirius and Severus get to stay," James pouted a little as he handed Daenerys over to Lily for one more hug.
"This is now a true centre for learning and knowledge, for pushing education and understanding forward, I could not be anywhere else!" Severus shook his dark head.
"And the fact that you have fancy rooms, a fancy lab and all the plants your heart could dream of, that means nothing?" Lily smiled at her friend.
"The less said about why Sirius is staying the better," Harry snorted, glancing over to his godfather and Daemon, the latter of whom blushed darkly and started sputtering.
"Please tell me that you did not think that you were being subtle?" Maegor snorted.
"I…"
"It is a good job espionage is not part of your job description," Harry laughed.
"Be careful, all of you, yes? Whoever did what they did is still out there," Lily said, concerned as she passed Daenerys back to Harry.
"We will be, and we will know who it is soon," Harry said firmly.
"You would allow nothing else," James nodded before hugging his son, and so his granddaughter, tightly.
"I am hugging you as well," Lily announced before tugging Maegor into a firm hug, her son in law floundering for just a second before he closed his arms around her. "Thank you for making him so happy," she said softly to him as James started listing more things that he wanted updates on.
"I don't do much," Maegor protested.
"You love him, with everything you have, no parent could ask for anything more, and nothing could make Harry happier than that," Lily pulled back and cupped his cheek with a soft smile.
"Thank you," Maegor managed to say past the lump in his throat. She smiled at him, those green eyes that Harry's were so similar to, and now one of his daughter's, shining warmly.
"James, come on, we will be back soon," Lily laughed tugging her husband's arm.
"One more kiss!" James declared dodging forward and kissing Harry's cheek and then Daenerys, and then went up on his toes to kiss Maegor's. "See you soon son!" he smiled at Maegor before hurrying after his wife.
Harry leant against Maegor's side gently as his husband stared stunned after his mother and father, knowing how much that meant to him. Visneya shifted a little in her place standing watching the two and their entourage leaving, her mask in place, but the sadness in her eyes could not be mistaken.
"I bet they will be back in four months," Sirius declared just as the group disappeared from sight.
"Four, I am saying three," Severus snorted.
"When they can be flown here and back, two," Harry laughed.
"Why do you look so smug?" Harry asked as Maegor walked into the office staring down at a letter in his hands.
"We have them!" Maegor smirked looking up at Harry, a vicious expression on his face that probably shouldn't have made Harry's heart flutter the way that it did.
"The Hightowers?" Harry asked, standing.
"Yes, I was hoping that the Maesters would implicate themselves, but there is time for them, for now, we have the Hightowers!" Maegor laughed.
"Treason?" Harry asked eagerly, making his way around his desk.
"Of the highest," Maegor nodded, holding the letter out to Harry. When his husband reached him and reached out for it he swept an arm around his waist and pulled him in for a deep kiss.
"What was that for?" Harry asked happily when they parted.
"You were right, as normal," Maegor smiled, "Remus came through for us,"
"They think they can marry one of their brats to Daenerys and rule in her stead!" Harry sneered.
"My announcement that I plan for Daenerys to be my Heir, no matter any future sons, seems to have made them think far above their station," Maegor snorted, leaning against the table and watching with hungry eyes as Harry became more and more furious as he read.
"They think that they can take over the country by marrying our daughter and producing children that are loyal to, and are more Hightowers than Targaryen?! Producing Dragon riding Hightowers?!" Harry spluttered.
"Apparently so, they believe that they will be able to marry the oldest Hightower son to Daenerys and rule over her quickly enough," Maegor nodded.
"Over my dead body!" Harry hissed.
"You're incredibly sexy when you're angry, you know?" Maegor said as he crossed his arms and leant against Harry's desk.
"If they think that they're going to…what?" Harry blinked and turned to his husband.
"Incredibly sexy," Maegor nodded.
"How sexy?" Harry said slowly.
"Incredibly," Maegor hummed.
"Really?" Harry stepped a little closer to Maegor and after placing the letter safely to the side, reached out to play with Maegor's lapels.
"Incredibly, utterly sexy, especially when you're defending our family," Maegor nodded, pulling Harry closer by his hips and into a deep kiss. Harry hummed into the kiss and wrapped his arms around Maegor's shoulders and sank into the kiss.
"We are going to have sex right now, right?" Harry pulled back and looked at Maegor suspiciously.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Maegor asked.
"Because you have been treating me like I am glass and I really want to have sex with you right now," Harry huffed.
"I don't want to hurt you," Maegor huffed.
"Daenerys is a month old now, and I feel healed," Harry grumbled, pulling Maegor into another kiss.
"You will tell me if it starts hurting?" Maegore asked as Harry pulled him down onto the floor.
"I will," Harry promised, stripping Maegor out of his jacket as Maegor's hands eagerly stripped him out of his top.
"Ok, ok, good…really good," Maegor groaned as he stripped Harry's trousers off.
"Wait!" Harry said as Maegor kissed down his body, pausing his husband as he reached his body.
"What? Are you ok? Are you sore? What?" Maegor looked up with concerned purple eyes.
"We are going to kill them and destroy their house right?" Harry asked.
"Yes, I promise," Maegor nodded, his purple eyes darkening.
"Good, carry on," Harry lay back down.
"Yes Master," Maegor laughed before descending down, he gripped Harry's legs and lifted them over his shoulder before licking over his entrance making his husband's response die on his lips, Harry threw his dark head back as a deep groan spilled from his lips.
Harry nodded to the Guards as he passed them and he stepped into the throne room, he smiled softly to himself as he slipped quietly into the room and his eyes fell on his husband and their daughter.
Maegor was sitting on the Iron Throne with Daenerys in his arms, his voice a low rumble as he spoke to her, telling her the story of the Targaryens and their origins, telling her about where they had come from, it sounded like he was telling her about Daenys the Dreamer.
Daenerys was laying in his arms staring up at him, they had discovered quickly that she loved the sound of Maegor's voice, the rumble of it seeming to soothe her quicker than anything else could.
Harry loved watching the two of them together, hearing Maegor talking to her and watching her little face light up.
Maegor just seemed to fall more and more in love with their daughter by the day, especially as she started interacting even more with them.
He couldn't wait for the future and seeing how she developed and her little personality started becoming more and more clear to them.
"You have to be kidding me," Harry stared at the man in front of him.
"I really wish I was," Remus sighed. "I rode here as fast as I could to tell you when I found out. I didn't want to risk writing it,"
"We need to go to Maegor and tell him," Harry stood and tugged his robes on. "He is just down the hall,"
"I can't believe that the little boy that I used to know is married to the King and calling him by his first name," Remus smiled at him.
"It would be a little odd for me to be married to him and not call him by his first name," Harry smiled at Remus.
"If I remember you rightly from when you were a boy, you wouldn't have given him much of a choice," Remus chuckled.
"No, not really," Harry chuckled.
"The schools…they're such a wonderful idea," Remus said softly. "I wish that they had existed when I was younger so I could have attended. It is going to make such a difference to a lot of people,"
"I hope so, I really hope so, we have had double the amount of people applying than we thought would apply," Harry said before nodding to Visys and Baelor as they opened the door for him.
"Harrison," Maegor's face brightened when he looked up, and then closed back down again when he said the man beside him. "Who is this?"
"This is Remus," Harry said and Maegor stood.
"It is a pleasure to meet you," Maegor held his hand out for Harry's, raising it to his lips before turning to the man still dressed in Maester clothing. "I thought you were planning to come to the Capital in a few months time, is everything ok?"
"Remus has brought serious news," Harry tightened his hand around Maegor's, "We need to act quickly,"
"What is it?" Maegor frowned.
"The Maester's have been looking into ways to kill the Dragons," Harry said. Remus nearly jumped out of his skin at the growl that Maegor let out, and the sound of Maegor punching the desk.
"What…how are they planning on doing that?" Maegor asked.
"They are still researching it, Sire, but they are looking at ways to poison the eggs to make the hatchlings smaller and smaller until they can try and prevent eggs being laid at all. They have been looking into various ways that they can do it, various crafts and poisons," Remus said uncertainly, jumping again at the furious snarl that Maegor let out.
"Fucking poison!"
"I apologise," Remus stepped back a little.
"He's not angry with you," Harry shook his head.
"Do you have proof of this?" Maegor demanded.
"I know the room number in the Citadel that they are researching this in," Remus nodded.
"Take all the Guard with you," Harry said firmly.
"I will leave…"
"No!" Harry shook his head.
"Loral won't leave you anyway, he will stay with you, I will take the rest," Maegor said.
"And your mother?!" Harry narrowed his eyes.
"And my mother," Maegor said amused.
"And Daemon and Sirius,"
"They will complain about being crammed into the carriage," Maegor protested and then stared at Harry who stared right back at him with his arms crossed and his eyes narrowed. "Harrison,"
Harry didn't move and carried on staring at him.
"Fine! Fine!" Maegor growled.
"Thank you!" Harry said brightly.
"I swear to the Gods Harrison, you had better be safe when I get back here!" Maegor snarled.
"I will be, it will only be for a few days" Harry kissed his cheek. "Remus, perhaps we should get you a change of clothes before you head out,"
"How are we going to only be a few days?" Remus asked, confused.
"You're going to love it, you're going to get to fly by Dragon!" Harry grinned.
"James used to smirk at me like that before we ended up doing something that I would very much not love," Remus groaned.
"I am so glad that I am not in there," Loral muttered watching as everyone crowded into the carriage.
"Ow!" Visys complained.
"That was my foot!" Garlan grunted.
"Why can't I stay with King Consort Harry!" Owen whined.
"That is my leg!" Baelor yelped.
"That is not my leg Sirius!" Daemon yelped.
"Will you lot shut up and get into the damned carriage!" Maegor snarled from the top of Balarion.
"This is really cramped," Garlan shouted before they managed to shut the door behind themselves.
"So glad!" Loral grinned.
"Do not let him out of your sight!" Visenya warned.
"I won't, I swear!" Loral said quickly.
"YOU HAD BETTER NOT!" Owen shouted from inside the carriage before someone else yelped.
"Can we make a second carriage? Or a bigger one please?" Daemon shouted.
"I don't know this is pretty amusing," Severus drawled as he walked up next to Harry.
"Shut up Severus!" Sirius shouted.
"So much space out here," Severus hummed.
"I swear you two are worse than children, still!" Remus muttered.
"They have been like this for years?" Daemon asked.
"They used to be worse," Remus said.
"He was worse than me!" Sirius and Severus said at the same time.
"ENOUGH!" Maegor shouted.
"Have fun!" Harry waved.
"I swear…" Maegor grumbled. "I love you!"
"I love you too," Harry blew him a kiss.
"That has to be the most aggressive I love you that I have ever heard in my life," Loral muttered to Harry who stifled his laughter as Balerion and Vhagar took off.
"It is all about translation," Harry chuckled.
"You will be able to talk to Balerion and Vhagar soon with the way you manage to 'translate' our King's growls," Severus snorted.
"I definitely hope that Daenerys is a little more verbose than Maegor and Visenya," Harry admitted.
"No comment," Severus said before drifting off.
"What the fuck!" Harry screamed.
"What? What? What? Where?!" Loral sprung to his feet, blinking sleep from his eyes as he waved his sword around.
"Your Majesty?" The guards knocked on the door.
"It is fine! Loral just scared me, why are you in here?!" Harry asked, clutching his chest.
"King Maegor said to keep you safe, I thought sleeping in the living room would be the best place to do that," Loral lowered his sword.
"You gave me a heart attack!" Harry whined.
"Have you heard?" Lord Lovell asked.
"Don't be an idiot, everyone has heard," Lady Mortimer snorted.
"I heard that they threatened to burn the whole place down," Lady Norfolk said.
"They were trying to kill off the dragons," Lord Percy shook his head.
"There are already so few Dragons, it is only now that more are hatching, imagine a world where Dragons are allowed to die out," Lord Lovell frowned.
"The Maesters are meant to be a place of learning and sharing that knowledge, what did they think gave them the right to try and kill Dragons from the world?" Lady Norfolk scowled. "I can't blame them from wanting to burn it down,"
"I heard that it was only the knowledge that was inside the Citadel that stopped them from burning it," Lord Percy said.
"It goes to show that their Majesties are right in opening multiple Schools, it seems stupid to have all the knowledge in one place that could be destroyed," Lady Norfolk shook her head.
"This will be the end of them right?" Lord Lovell said.
"The fools destroyed themselves," Lady Mortimer shook her head.
"I heard they were plotting to overthrow the Targaryens completely, so yes, they're pretty much done with," Lord Percy snorted elegantly.
"I heard that King Maegor and Dowager Queen Visenya went to the Hightowers right after they were done with the Citadel, it has to be connected. Nothing has been said that they have gone to attack them, but surely…" Lord Lovell cut off.
"I have heard a few people saying that they're surprised that King Maegor left King Consort Harrison as his regent in his absence, but really, you would have to be a fool to not realise how capable he is, and to not realise how much the King trusts him," Lady Mortimer shook her head.
"They are the same idiots that are saying that once they have a son King Maegor will change his mind about Princess Daenerys being his heir," Lady Norfolk rolled her eyes.
"Well, it is traditional," Lord Percy muttered.
"I heard King Consort Harrison telling someone that there is no base for tradition yet, King Maegor is only the third Targaryen King and the second generation of ruling Targaryens since the Conquest, they set the tradition," Lady Mortimer sneered a little.
"I was just saying…" Lord Percy held his hands up.
"Well, just say it to King Consort Harrison and King Maegor's faces," Lady Norfolk sniffed.
"He is going to be furious," Harry sighed, signing a scroll and placing it to the side.
"He wanted to be back in a few days," Severus nodded. "You have him besotted with you,"
I don't like how that is phrased, you make it sound like I have tricked him in some way," Harry frowned as he signed another sheet.
"Not how I meant it," Severus held his hands up. "I just meant that he is happy with you and doesn't seem to wish to be parted from you,"
"I don't particularly wish to be parted from him," Harry sighed, shoving a scroll to the side after putting an X on it.
"It is good to see that you are happy with him," Severus said. "I admit that I was worried when your mother sent word that you had chosen to marry him,"
"You should know better than to doubt me knowing what I am doing," Harry said.
"You're far too much like your father, bombing head first into things and hoping that you come out ok at the end of it," Severus snorted.
"That sounded like an insult, I could have your head for that," Harry said, nodding to where Loral was standing.
"As long as you don't make me cut his tongue out Sire, that was gross, and slippery to actually do," Loral said dryly.
"I will have some tweezers made for you," Harry said, pulling another scroll to himself.
"Appreciated Sire,"
"I am not sure that the King would like this," Loral said.
"Don't be so mullish, you have chosen the Guards that are standing in, and they are all loyal and trustworthy," Harry laughed.
"I am not being mullish Sire, I am being concerned, for yourself and the Princess, and for my neck when King Maegor finds out," Loral huffed.
"I will tell him that I utterly ignored you, and overruled you, he will believe me," Harry grinned.
"What do you mean believe you, that is exactly what happened!" Loral spluttered, the Guard around him trying to stifle their laughter.
"We will be just fine," Harry said before nodding to the servants who pulled the doors to the throne room open as he approached. He and Loral immediately settled their faces into a more neutral expression, though Loral did manage to send one more baleful look his way before Harry climbed the steps to the Iron Throne and seated himself in it, Daenerys resting securely in his arms.
The people gathered in the throne room all honed in on Harry and more importantly Daenerys, all of them eager to get a look at their princess. She was lying fairly calmly in his lap and quite happy playing with the little articulating dragon toy that Maegor had made for her.
Harry oversaw the concerns and the questions that the people had come to bring forward before the King's justice, though he noticed that a good number didn't come forward to speak, more than would be in the normal crowd that had just come to see the court and get the gossip. He had been attending with Daenerys at the previous holding of the King's justice and those gathered here had clearly hoped to see her again.
Everyone was eager to see the Princess of the Realm, he had heard her being called the Realm's delight, and after years of Maegor not having an heir they were all excited and eager to see her, to spend time in her presence. Harry was happy to present her in a controlled way, no matter how concerned Loral was, being within the Throne room he felt safe to show her to the people that he could, and he knew that they would go and talk to other people about her, and spread word about her.
As he made his judgements and heard the peoples problems, he watched them eagerly looking at his daughter.
"The King is back!" The servant announced panting, bending over and resting her hands on her knees as she sucked in deep breaths, clearly having run the length of the Keep to bring Harry the news.
Harry jumped to his feet and was moving as fast as he could even as he heard the roar of Balerion over the Keep and his heavy wing beats. Balerion roared again and there was something impatient about his roar that drove the eagerness in Harry to finally see Maegor again.
He heard the loud thump of Balerion landing ahead of him, the sound now oddly familiar to his ears, and he raced the three further corridors even faster until finally he broke into the Courtyard in time to see Maegor jumping down from Balerion's side.
He didn't slow down, racing right across the Courtyard and throwing himself at his husband who eagerly reached out and caught him around the waist, managing to throw Harry upward so he could wrap his arms under Harry's thighs to guide them around his waist even as Harry sealed their lips together, kissing the breath from Maegor as he cupped his face in one hand and buried his fingers into Maegor's blond hair with his other hand.
Maegor growled into the kiss and held Harry tighter, kissing him deeply before he finally pulled back and looked Harry over intently, his purple eyes scanning over him, making sure that he was ok, making sure that he was in one piece, and just taking him in.
"It has been too long," Maegor snarled.
"Far too long," Harry nodded cupping Maegor's face, scanning his eyes over Maegor to make sure that he was ok.
"Never that long again," Maegor swore.
"Good, I felt as though I had lost a part of myself," Harry admitted softly.
"Me too," Maegor nodded before pulling Harry in for another kiss. He set Harry back down onto his feet before drawing him into another kiss, sweeter than the last one, holding his husband close to himself as Balerion huffed out a breath behind them and lay down with an almighty thump. Harry pulled away laughing and turned to see the huge Dragon eyeing the two of them with a disgruntled expression. "What is the matter with you?" Maegor asked, baffled.
Balerion huffed again and then slid his head closer to them.
"I missed you as well," Harry patted his nose and then stroked over it, smiling brightly when Balerion let out a low rumble.
"Of course, he missed you as well," Maegor chuckled. "Where is Daenerys?" he asked with such longing in his voice that Harry smiled softly at him.
"Here," Harry took his hand and led him just inside of the Courtyard where Daenerys was waiting in her nurse's arms. He took her with a warm smile for the hard-working nurse and turned to place her into Maegor's waiting arms.
"She has grown so much already!" Maegor lamented.
"Has she? She is maybe a little bigger," Harry blinked.
"It has been three weeks and she is double the size," Maegor frowned.
"She is really not that much bigger," Harry laughed. "I would know by her clothes,"
"It seems like it," Maegor huffed, stroking his hand over Daenerys' blond head and then stroking his thumb under her eye. She giggled happily and reached up to grab his hand before… "OW!"
"Oh…she is teething," Harry said, fighting back his laugh at the affronted look on Maegor's face.
"It is sharp!" Maegor huffed.
"Do you want me to heal it?" Harry asked before biting his lip.
"Be quiet you!" Maegor growled and rolled his eyes when Harry just burst out laughing.
"I am sorry my love," Harry said leaning up to press a kiss to his mouth.
"You are not," Maegor growled.
"I am," Harry said.
"You are not!" Maegor growled.
"I really am!" Harry said, starting to laugh again.
"No! You are not!" Maegor snarled before catching Harry around the waist with his free arm and pulled him against him to kiss him sweetly again.
They pulled apart and Harry smiled as Maegor lifted Daenerys into the air and looked her over while she giggled happily and made grabby hands at him.
"I was worried that she would forget me," Maegor admitted quietly.
"Never," Harry smiled, kissing his cheek.
Harry hummed softly as he rocked the rocking chair back and forth holding Daenerys to his chest as she fed, he looked down at her, scanning his eyes over her features and picking out different parts that he believed matched himself and that he believed matched Maegor.
His husband had been back for four days now and he couldn't be happier. He knew how much he had missed Maegor while he had been gone, but it wasn't until he was back that Harry realised exactly how much he had missed him.
He had missed him with a longing that shocked him, and he hadn't felt right without his husband here with him.
He thought back to the first months of their marriage where they could go for hours and hours of not seeing each other until Harry made his way to the throne room to spend time with his husband. He had hoped that they could come to care for each other, that they could come to mean a lot to each other, the more that he had gotten to know Maegor, part of him had hoped that they could come to love each other, but part of him had doubted it.
Now he loved the other so much that at times it felt as though it hurt, and so much that he felt as though his heart was fuller than he thought was possible. Their daughter had just filled him with even more love, looking at her, a part of himself and the man that he loved, he hadn't known that it was possible to love like this, he hadn't known that it was possible for him to feel so much, to care so much.
He chuckled at the burp Daenerys let out, his daughter letting out a happy little gurgle and giving him a gummy grin as he wiped her mouth. He set the cloth to the side and stood with her, moving to the window to look out over Kings Landing as he held her against his shoulder and rocked back and forth, hoping to coax her to sleep.
He gazed down at the Dragon Pit that was now being built, though he was hoping to change Maegor's mind on that name, Pit sounded horrible for the Dragons to live in, his husband was digging his heels in though and pointing at Harry for his complaining about the name.
"I thought I had your Grandmother on my side until I suggested stable," Harry told Daenerys, who was a little more interested in chomping on his collar.
Visenya had given them that blank look before turning away when he had made the suggestion, which took him and Maegor back to page one.
"I stood here on my first night married to your father, looking out from this window while I waited for him, thinking about how my life had changed, thinking about what my life had become, what it would become having married your father," Harry said thoughtfully. "I don't think even in my wildest dreams did I imagine that it would change the way that it has,"
He swayed back and forth for a moment with Daenerys as his thoughts wandered before shaking his head. He was being incredibly pensive tonight. He turned and made his way over to Daenerys' crib, placing her down and covering her with the blanket that his mother and father had recently sent for her, smiling a little to himself as he tucked her in.
Her green and purple eyes blinked tiredly up at him, but her little mouth pursed into a stubborn pout as she clearly tried to fight off going to sleep. Maegor had snorted and then laughed at him when he said that the pout was like Maegor's own, the fond look and kiss his husband gave him told him that he wasn't offended.
Harry was aware that to most people Maegor's pouts and similar expressions looked like he was holding back murderous impulses, but that wasn't what they looked like to Harry at all.
Harry fussed her for a little longer until finally her eyes closed and she drifted off to sleep. Despite his earlier scolding to himself for being so pensive and musing over things, Harry found his feet taking him back to the window so that he could look out over the beginnings of the pit again, his mind going over how much his life had changed. He would meet with Maegor in a little bit, he decided, his husband was doing paperwork with Daemon in regard to the Hightowers, but Harry would go and see if he could help, and hopefully, they could get a good part of the evening together.
Harry did not see or hear the secret passageway door into the room opening behind him, nor did he see the dark figure that slipped into the room entering and taking note of the room, and the two occupants in it, before on utterly silent feet the figure moved towards the crib.
Behind Harry's back, the figure got closer and closer to the crib until finally, they were standing over it. The person looked down at the small baby lying sleeping in the crib peacefully, completely unaware of the events that surrounded her, and the immediate danger that she was in.
They tilted their head and looked at the sleeping Princess, it was his job to assassinate people, and while a job was a job to him, it was a little more difficult killing babies and children, they were always innocently pulled into these things, most of the time not even aware of what was happening around them, definitely not aware of why they were being killed.
Politics, power, and money, it always drove people to the extremes of behaviour, and it always lined his pockets when they did not want to get their hands dirty themselves he mused as he drew his blade. At the end of the day, money was money, and he had a job to do.
Lifting the blade high he took the breath he needed before plunging it down into the crib.
Maegor huffed to himself as he scribbled over another sheet of paper and dropped it pointedly in front of Daemon who rolled his eyes.
"Harry has encouraged you to be much more free and open, and with that, you have become much more dramatic," Daemon snorted.
"That is all of the paperwork," Maegor sighed, dropping back into his seat.
"It is done though, the Hightowers are done for," Daemon said, satisfied. "I am going to rip them apart!"
"You know," Maegor shuffled a little in his seat, glancing down at the desk and then looking at Daemon with a determination that confused Maegor. "I wouldn't have anyone else as my Hand,"
"I…I…" Daemon stammered, clearly completely unsure as to what to say to him.
"I am not going to repeat it," Maegor grumbled looking away, uncomfortable himself now.
"You don't need to say it again," Daemon smiled a little, "That is enough for me,"
"Sire!" a servant knocked on the door.
"Oh thank the Gods, come in!" Maegor shouted.
"Sire!" The servant was panting and looking concerned, catching the attention of the two men.
"What is it?" Daemon asked.
"There are three dragons approaching!" The servant panted.
"Where are they aiming for?" Maegor asked, already moving.
"For the Courtyard," The servant managed to say before the two men were racing off through the Keep.
They ran through the corridors until they reached the Courtyard, and looked up to the sky to see three smaller Dragons approaching.
"Your niece and nephews Dragons?" Daemon asked.
"Yes,"
"Dreamfyre and Rhaena are not with them," Daemon squinted.
"No," Maegor agreed, having been scanning the skies for her himself.
"What is going on?" Daemon asked, confused. "It was rhetoric!" he huffed, seeing the look Maegor was giving him.
They watched concerned as Dragons flew down and landed in the Courtyard with soft thumps, practically one on top of each other, Viserys and Alysanne's Dragon bumping into each other with the hurry in which they had landed.
"Uncle!" Alysanne looked relieved at seeing him already there, and the three of them started scrambling down from their Dragons. "Daenerys is in danger!" she shouted while still scrambling down.
Maegor's heart seized.
"What?" Daemon shouted.
"The baby, there is an assassin, here, now!" Viserys panted as the three siblings raced across the Courtyard towards them, they had to carry on running as Maegor and Daemon turned and started running back into the Keep, their hearts pounding as they moved.
Maegor felt as though he were running as fast as he could, and getting nowhere at the same time, his head spinning as he moved, he was absently aware of the panting breaths and racing feet behind them of his niece and nephews but all he was aware of was that his daughter was in danger, and they were on the other side of the Keep.
Finally, they reached the family wing of the Keep and they moved towards Daenerys' nursery, the silence that surrounded it was ominous, and the door standing open and empty of Loral and Owen terrified him.
He was the first to reach the door, and he threw himself inside of the room, only tp skid to a halt as his eyes took in what he was seeing.
Red.
Too much red.
Maegor dropped to his knees.
