Spencer frowned as he watched the landscape outside JJ's car fly by. He couldn't believe that his plan with JJ had failed so spectacularly.
"Hey," JJ prodded him from the driver's seat.
"What? Hands on the wheel, please," he responded.
"Cheer up," JJ encouraged. "Garcia was surprised. That counts for something, right."
"I suppose," Spencer agreed, and then he smiled a little, thinking about the look on Garcia's face, and then he frowned again. "Remember, she threatened to erase our lives if we kept another secret from her."
"I believe her exact words were, Pull another stunt like that, and I'll send you to credit hell."
"Yeah."
"Spence, we forgot we work with profilers."
Spencer loudly sighed as they changed lanes to take the exit for his apartment. "I know. I'm not sure how we managed to live in complete denial."
"I wonder if Morgan knew because the expression on his face when you told everyone was surprised, but he covered it well," JJ said.
"I was watching Emily's reaction and didn't see it. You're probably right, though."
"I'm so glad we told Hotch alone."
Spencer turned to look at JJ's profile. They stopped at a red light and waited to make a left turn. "Me too. I can't imagine breaking the news without warning him."
"At least he understood and didn't make a fuss. I hope SC Strauss doesn't separate us."
Spencer reached over and gave her hand a quick squeeze. The light turned to a green arrow, and they were back on their way home. "I don't wanna think about it."
"Good, I agree. Everyone knows we're dating, and hopefully, the team will leave us alone."
Spencer glanced over again and felt himself smile. "I think you give them too much credit, JJ. If you believe Morgan'll stop teasing us, you're crazy."
JJ made a right turn, drove down the final street to the complex, pulled in, and parked. She shut off the engine, and the cooling breeze from the A/C stopped. They hurried out into the August heat and strode quickly to the building. "You're probably right," JJ admitted. "I wish you were wrong."
Spencer chuckled as they climbed the stairs to the second floor. "Well, at least we don't have to hide anymore."
"True."
As they entered Spencer's apartment, he took her arm, gently tugged her forward, and lightly kicked the door shut. "Wanna cool shower or dinner," he asked while wiggling his eyebrows.
"Food, I hate showering with someone else. A girl needs to wash her hair alone."
Spencer frowned for a third time. "Fine. You wanna order food."
"Have to because I know there's nothing in the fridge."
"Hs Ha," Spencer said, "Just for that I – "
His phone buzzed, and he rolled his eyes as he answered. "What do you want, Morgan," he snapped.
JJ sighed and went to the desk drawer where Spencer had kept a bundle of takeout menus. She was studying them when he came over. "Morgan thinks it's funny to interrogate me about you. I didn't let him get started; I just told him the answer was no and hung up."
JJ high-fived him. "Good for you. Thanks for having my back."
"Always!"
"Now, what do you want to eat."
"You choose."
JJ narrowed her eyes at her lover. "Nope, we're not doing this again. Remember last Thursday. We had a ten-minute argument about who was deciding on dinner. We're going to be mature and settle it like adults."
Spencer raised his eyebrows. "How do you propose we do that?"
"We flip a coin." JJ countered.
"Alright, we'll use –"
"Uh nuh," JJ shook her head and reached for her purse. "We use my coin, and I flip it, magic man."
Reid began to pout but couldn't say anything because he had decided to cheat on the coin toss. Still, he agreed to her plan to get the last word. "I thought you trusted me."
JJ laughed as she reached into her wallet for a quarter. "Are you insane? Not when it comes to coin tosses. I saw what you did to Morgan a couple of weeks ago."
"That was self-preservation."
"Whatever! Call it in the air."
"Heads," Spencer chose.
JJ caught the coin, slapped it on her palm, and lifted her right hand. "Heads," she said and shot Spencer a look that made him smile. "How did you do that?"
"I didn't. You're the one who tossed the coin. I never touched it." Spencer reminded her.
"Pizza," JJ gave in.
"Pizza," Spencer agreed with a smirk. "Now, I'm going to take that cool shower. Sure you don't want to join me?"
"Get out of here before I order a couple of spinach salads for us," JJ threatened.
"Yuck, I'm going," Spencer ducked away for JJ.
"Have fun," JJ sweetly sang as she reached for her cell phone.
Spencer thought he would enjoy cooling off from the day. After all, the team knew their secret. He'd told Morgan to leave them alone, and he'd have a Super Supreme Special from their favorite pizza shop. Life was good!
