a/n: i just love her proposal speech, i had to include it
Chapter 18: Paris
I'm so in love that I might stop breathing
"So I figured that this is as good a place as any to ask you this question" Santana started nervously. "Mainly because it's going to really upset all the single guys and gals in here," Santana cracked a joke, doing her best to keep her nerves under control. "But, I want to mash up with you forever Brit. I mean, some people love someone because they make them a better person, and that's not why I love you, because you've always just wanted to be myself. You're my favorite person in the whole world, and we're a big deal! Y'know, like, no matter how many times we've tried to put our thing down and walk away from it, we can't, because I don't want to live my life without my one true love. And, I normally use a lot of words when I'm saying something negative, so since this is the most positive thing I'm ever gonna do, I'm gonna keep it simple." Santana finished her speech as the bass player handed her the ring box. She got down on one knee and said "Brittany S. Pierce, will you marry me?" It felt like it took hours before Brittany responded.
"Oh my god I would love to!" Brittany hugged her as the rest of the club clapped. We'll excluding one person, arguably one of the more important people in the room, excluding Quinn, of course. Kurt. For some reason, he thought all of his and Blaine's relationship problems meant that no one else could be happy at their age. And he had to make sure that Brittany and Santana knew that. But nothing could kill Santana's smile, and everyone else's happiness, at least for the moment, drowned out Kurt's disgusting and inappropriate negativity. Seriously, where did he get off almost ruining their engagement? Santana wasn't going to let it go though. She just didn't want Brittany to see her rip Kurt to shreds. She knew that Brittany liked Kurt, in fact, she'd really enjoyed his company too. It was why it got on he last nerve when he, out of all people, was unsupportive. Blaine and Kurt's age wasn't why things hadn't worked out. It was because Kurt was, as she elaborated, intolerable.
Romance is not dead if you keep it just yours
It seemed the animosity was more so between herself and Kurt than Brittany and Kurt. Brittany was filling a huge heart with Mounds bars, the lesbian of candy, and Kurt did actually apologize for his interruption, admitting he believed in them and he was just bitter…basically exactly what Santana had predicted. Brittany had quickly forgiven him, besides, she had to deliver the bad news that Blaine was moving in with Karofsky, and she really didn't like breaking his unicorn heart. Though, she did agree pretty aptly with Santana. Kurt was certainly an acquired taste, but she was sure there was someone who would appreciate his eccentricity the way Blaine had.
Besides that, though, Kurt was probably the only person outside Santana who got her. He understood what she said. Even a metaphor about Mounds bars and poop hands. Kurt was, outside of Santana, probably Brittany's best friend. I mean she had been his beard at one point, after all. Quinn was Santana's best friend and Kurt was Brittany's. It just made sense.
Into loving me forever
After that, Santana and Brittany took a short leave from their duties as Glee club mentors to celebrate with more than just Mounds bars. Time together away from McKinley was something they deserved, and they took every second of it, even if Rachel probably could've used their help when it came to the invitational. Then again, this was the perfect time for Rachel and Kurt to learn to work together and run the Glee Club without clearly more talented help.
Confess my truth
After a brief break, it's time to plan the wedding. First and foremost though, they need to tell their families. After finding out her dad is Stephen Hawking, Brittany tells her parents. Santana, on the other hand, has one person she wants to tell more than her parents, but she's not sure she'll be interested in the news: her Abuela. But, at the end of the day, that would mean not marrying Brittany. And she chooses Brittany over everyone.
Brittany, however, is determined to get Santana's Abuela to come. She knows it would be a dream come true. So, she befriends Alma, and even brings her on Fondue for Two, or aptly titled in that episode, Queso Por Dos. Well, actually, for a long time to come as Univision will be showing it. But that is beside the point. Santana isn't particularly pleased about Brittany's sneakiness, but eventually concedes that trying can't hurt. Plus Brittany is way too sweet to resist. If anyone could get Alma to bend, it was Brittany with her genius and sweetness. It doesn't hurt to add a bit of Santana's perfect singing though, and so it's worked into the plan. Brittany brings Alma to hear her sing, because she'd do anything to make Santana happy. It just would've been nice if it had worked. And Brittany manages to pull out her own mean words, taking a play out of Santana's book. Because she's nice, but not when someone attacks Santana.
At least Santana's chosen family still loves her and are absolutely thrilled to be at their wedding, vying for the empty seat at the Lopez family table.
