Flickety Split

Sarah attempts to determine what's on Jareth's mind. Written for a prompt where the drabble ends with the idea of "And then, splash right into the Bog".

Jareth's eyes were flat as glass.

"I take it you're upset."

He flicked his hand, and there was a whistling, whooshing sound followed by an unmistakable, distant splash into the Bog. So much for the glitter lip gloss I'd been about to put on. It'd been a gift from my soon-to-be sister-in-law Rose, too.

"Jareth, what-"

Another flick. Another whistle-whoosh and splash. Goddammit, I had liked that book. Rose had gotten an autographed copy for me for my birthday last year.

"Exactly why-"

Flick, whistle-whooooooosh, splash. There went the invitation to Toby and Rose's wedding. Hmmm…

"Is this about the wedding invitation wording?"

His mouth tightened, though his fingers paused mid-flick.

"Look, the 'plus one' thing is just a formality. If we'd told them we were together, it would have been addressed to us both."

"We have to...announce this somehow?"

"Yes, honey. They're not telepathic, and you've never gone with me on my visits home."

He considered this, still glowering. "Fine. We'll announce it at this wedding."

"That'll do - Jareth! What the hell?!" I watched as my hair clip (another gift from Rose) sailed out the window, followed by a telltale splash.

He shrugged. "My apologies. I was mid-flick."
