Chapter 1

Genin Core- Can I make it big?

"You all fail. I knew attempting to take a genin squad would be a bad decision" Genma Shiranui said while shaking his head. "Back to the academy with all of you, if not that then quit the shinobi route or join the Genin core and help the village out a little." Genma said before he poofed into a cloud of smoke.

I slumped over, slowly. And began my walk home ignoring the shouts from the two girls that would've been my teammates Ami and Hana, 'How could this happen to me, I was sure that we could have passed his little test of having to get a single hit out on him. If it wasn't for those two useless wannabe kunoichi' I glanced back giving them my meanest mug and ran off to my shitty one bedroom apartment all orphan academy kids got when joining the academy. I laid on the sofa and groaned.

"NOW WHAT!?" I sat up to give it more of a thought, either back to the academy or joining the Genin core… becoming a civilian was never an option, reading and seeing what could come and destroy you at any moment… 'Genin core it is! I atleast have access to the shinobi library even if only the genin portion of the library, I'll go and put my registration in as a member of the Genin core tomorrow.'

It's been some days since I've become a full fledged shinobi of the leaf. I know I have already learned the waste of time excuses called missions they give us genin. At Least it brings in some money, I've been needing it badly. The stipend I was granted by the village is no longer an option so I'll have to pay my own bills now.

I moaned loudly at that.

I was initially going to get a new mission today and see what a C rank was like if I was granted one, being a genin core shinobi the higher ups generally relied on us to test our own medal if we thought we were ready they'd throw us a bone, a very small.. not so tasty bone, but a bone nonetheless. But before that I should train a bit more, after all even if I'd like to think I, Kasai Nurishima ranked 7th overall in our graduating class, was strong. The truth of the matter is I'm nothing more than a wet behind the ears genin, Genma proved that. The way he expertly dodged all of my hits and at times even seemed to vanish without me even being able to tell where he had gone, it really just set in that I'm not as strong as I could eventually become.

So to the shinobi library I went, behind the hokage building built into the mountain. You could see chunin flanking at the doors, only granting access to shinobi into the shinobi library. They obviously saw my headband and nodded at me granting me access, when inside I went straight to the check out desk to ask the librarian some questions.

"Excuse, I don't mean to be a bother but could you point me out to some books that teach better chakra control and what some of the most important aspects of being a shinobi is." Kasai asked the very slender and tall chunin sitting at the desk

Joel, if going by his name tag, pointed to an area to the right, "That way way to the back.. Keep right on the wall and take a left. On that back wall will be all the information you'll be looking for, if you need to know where something else is refer to the maps placed on the walls, don't go past the genin portion you will be stopped." The man said in his deep somber tone, "And don't ask me any other questions until you're ready to check some books out, you're limited to 4 as a genin, and have a time frame of 10 days to return it." Joel then sat back down and continued with the book he was reading, 'Icha Icha… huh so he's into that smut.'

I then turned around and headed the way the man told me, not like the guys reading preferences were any of my business. I glanced at the shelf and sighed, it had tons of books. Not sure what to look for first, I grabbed a hand pick of 5 random books and looked at my stock.

The first was about the beginnings of Chakra Nature Transformation, though interesting, I know I'm nowhere near ready for that, so I sighed and put that book back. The next book caught my attention though. 'Genin Necessities 101: How to become a strong shinobi without a sensei 'by Gamma Tenuki.' While not knowing who this Gamma Tenuki fellow was, I figure a book specifically about being a genin with no sensei would be great for myself seeing as I have no sensei and I'm not sure how I'd get around to getting one anytime soon. I sat the book down beside me an continued with the rest… a taijutsu style that didn't seem to fit his way of fighting, and two books on basic Genjutsu, decided to keep one of the Genjutsu books just picking it at random and putting the other back, the last book was on more advanced chakra control exercises for when you leave the academy. I decided I would learn a new taijutsu style later, as the academy style fits me for now and I've already easily twisted and made it my own while in the academy. But Genjutsu and Chakra control was something big on my list and possibly Bukijutsu if I was being real with himself, would just have to decide on a weapon once he has more money for weapons aside from the normal kunai and shuriken.

I walked back to Joel and placed the books on the table, "Will that be all for you?" Joel asked, taking the books and scanning them.

"Yes" I said, nodding to him. He printed out a piece of paper after scanning all the books and handed me the books in a bag.

"When you return them make sure you bring that receipt so we can validate the day we landed the books to you." Joel said while sitting back down and getting into a more comfortable position to read his Ichia Ichia story.

I nodded and walked out the library. Making a Beeline right for my apartment. I had decided as soon as I got home, a D rank mission a day, studying and training daily. For at least 2 weeks before I get the courage to take my first mission outside the village. So I set off to do my first D-rank of the day. Leaving my apartment and locking the door behind me I set off.

The mission took me almost all day 6 meaningless hours of painting a guy's fence for no real gain, I sighed while walking into my home. It's to study though. Starting with 'Genin Necessities 101: How to become a strong shinobi without a sensei 'by Gamma Tenuki.'

I began scouring the book, finding it fascinating the many routes I could go, I definitely have to look into this Gamma Tenuki guy.
