Chapter 4: Birds of a Feather
Skit 1: Wing woman
Porphyrius and Yang are preparing to have a sparring match in the training room.
Yang clashes her gauntlets, "Alright, you ready Porphyrius? Remember, the loser does the winner's homework for a month,"
"You said it would be a week. And yes, I was born ready," Porphyrius activates his weapon.
Yang waves it off, "Details, details,"
Off around the corner of the entranceway, Raven Branwen watches the fight with anticipation.
Raven glances around, "Okay, I managed to sneak in without any issues. I just need to swoop in as soon as the fight is done, get Yang, and then I'll be out of here. If Ozpin finds me here, I'll be in serious trouble,"
"And what kind of trouble would that be, Raven?" she jumps as she turns ti find Khazhak behind her, with his arms crossed and foot tapping the floor.
"Khazhak, what are you doing here?!" Raven quietly shrieks.
"I go to school here. Now, a more important question: why are YOU here? You left to be a bandit, right? And why are you spying on your own daughter? You're not trying to do something weird again, are you?" Khazhak interrogates her.
"I'm not doing anything. Is is so wrong for me to want to check in on my daughter and make sure she's okay? Look, I'll be gone in a moment, so keep your mouth shut, listen to your master, and pretend you didn't see me," Raven turns back to the fight, seeing that Porphyrius and Yang are about to attack each other.
The pair charge at each other, and Raven makes her move. She pulls out her katana and makes a quick portal about Yang and moves to grab her. However, Khazhak suddenly kicks her from behind and she ends up going into the portal alone before it closes. This stops the pair before they can hit each other.
"What the Hell was that?" Yang asks.
"Khazhak, is that you? Did you see a random portal open up and an older woman fly into it?" Porphyrius asks.
Khazhak walks away, "Nope, can't say that I have," he wipes his hands, leaving the others confused.
…
The next day, Yang is walking her team as they head to the landing platform to take an airship to Vale.
Yang stretches her arms, "Ah, finally it's the weekend. Time for some much-needed relaxation in the city. Get some food, do some shopping, talk about boys. That is the life,"
"I'd rather be studying right now," Weiss objects.
"Come on Weiss, one day without studying won't kill you. There's always time to relax a bit," Ruby says.
"And even if you try to escape, Ruby and Yang will just drag you back here, so you might as well just accept it," Blake adds, making Weiss sigh.
As they walk by one lamppost, Raven pops out from behind it, "Alright, Khazhak isn't here to stop me this time. This time, I'll bring Yang back to camp and make her one of my subordinates. Finally, some mother-daughter time,"
Raven swings out her blade to create a portal in front of her and jumps in. She creates another portal, planning on appearing right in front of Yang. However, the second she does appear, it's not Yang that greets her, but Khazhak.
Khazhak deadpans, "At least come up with something more creative than this," Khazhak then punches her back into the portal before it closes. Khazhak wipes his hands, "Man, this is getting annoying."
…
At night, the members of Team RWBY are fast asleep in their dorm room. Blake and Weiss are sleeping quietly, while Ruby is having a dream about an army of Zweis (probably), and Yang is snoring like usual. The dorm room window slowly opens up and in flies Raven as she changes back into her human form and lands quietly in the room.
"Alright, now that everyone is asleep, even Khazhak can't stop me this time. Just gotta get Yang out of here quietly and then I'll finally have some quality time with my daughter as I turn her into a proper bandit," Raven mutters.
Raven opens up yet another portal in the room, and then quickly takes a look around to make sure that Khazhak isn't anywhere near her. Seeing that the coast is clear, she starts wrapping Yang up in her own bed sheets. Once she's secured, Raven is about to take Yang away into the portal when she's suddenly pulled out from the window, only to be hanging outside the window by Khazhak, who is standing on one of his blades that's imbedded in the wall, and holding her by the back of her shirt.
"Give it a rest already, will ya," Khazhak drops Raven.
Raven changes back into a raven and flies up, but then Khazhak pulls out his other sword, electrocutes her with his semblance, and then tosses her through her portal before it closes. Khazhak then closes the window and jumps down to head back to his dorm room, leaving a slumbering Yang still wrapped up in her own sheets in the middle of the dorm room.
Skit 2: The Master?
High up on Beacon Tower, Voshkie'ahk meets with Qrow and Glynda Goodwitch.
"Now Voshkie'ahk, you've made great strides with your training. I believe you are ready to move on to the next stage of your training," Glynda reads off some papers.
Voshkie'ahk bows her head to them, "Thank you, Professor Goodwitch. What is my next test?"
"Your next test will be to begin going on out missions with Qrow here. While I'd rather be the one to train you, my duties as a teacher here and the fact that you see Qrow as your master, for some odd reason, leaves him as your best option. At the very least, he is a skilled huntsman," Glynda looks over to Qrow... who's sleeping in his chair. Glynda uses her weapon and semblance to knock him out of the chair. "Will you PLEASE take this seriously for once, Qrow? If you're her master, then act like it!"
Qrow stands up while rubbing his head, "Ow, alright, alright. So, I just need to take her on a few missions right? Okay, I got a few ideas,"
Glynda sighs, having an idea of what Qrow is thinking about.
…
Qrow and Voshkie'ahk are in the Emerald Forest, with Voshkie'ahk fighting against a pack of Beowolves, while Qrow lays on a lounge chair under an umbrella and sipping a wine glass.
"Um, Master Qrow, aren't you supposed to be helping me train here?" Voshkie'ahk stands against the Grimm as they circle her.
"I am. You've gotta learn how to fight without any backup. The best way to do that is gaining some actual fighting experience on your own. Don't worry, if things get bloody, then I'll intervene. Good luck, kiddo!" Qrow cheers her on as he sips his drink again.
Meanwhile, the Grimm stalk closer to Voshkie'ahk.
…
The next day, Voshkie'ahk is hanging on for dear life as she rides on the back of a giant Nevermore with Qrow.
"Master Qrow, what's the point in this training mission?!" Voshkie'ahk yells.
"You've gotta learn how to adapt to the changing situation and how to use everything around you to your advantage. Oh, uh, I'd hold on if I were you. These Grimm can fly pretty fast, and this one's just getting warmed up," Qrow says.
"WHAT?!" Voshkie'ahk yells.
"Good luck, kiddo," Qrow jumps off the Nevermore and changes into a crow before flying away, leaving Voshkie'ahk to fend for herself again.
"Oh you insufferable, drunk bas-," the Nevermore flies faster, taking Voshkie'ahk with it.
…
A couple days later, the master and apprentice are in Vale, walking through the streets.
"Master, what are we doing now?" Voshkie'ahk appears hunched over a little bit, tired from Qrow's crazy training sessions.
"We're on an important mission for this one. One that will teach you about finding the right target in a short amount of time," Qrow walks ahead of her.
Voshkie'ahk raises an eyebrow, "And that would be?"
A few minutes later, they wind up right in front of a liquor store.
"You're kidding me right? How is this supposed to help with me training? It's more like were here because you've run out of alcohol again!" Voshkie'ahk is quick to show her displeasure.
"Now, now, that's not why we're here. We are here for legitimate reasons, and those reasons are for your training. Now come on," Qrow walks inside first, while Voshkie'ahk sighs as she follows him.
They walk through the aisles, with Qrow looking at a few liquor bottles.
"Okay, fine, what exactly is my training for this place?" Voshkie'ahk asks.
"Your goal here is to choose a specific liquor bottle that has my crow emblem taped to it. And you have only two minutes to do it. And your time starts... now," Qrow pulls out a stop-watch.
Voshkie'ahk runs through the aisles, frantically searching for the bottle with his emblem taped on it. Voshkie'ahk looks up and down the shelves, even moving some bottles out of the way to check the ones behind them. Qrow watches between her and the stop-watch as she moves around. The seconds go down, but with less than thirty seconds left, Voshkie'ahk finally finds one bottle with his emblem taped on it and brings it to him, out of breath.
"Is... this... what you're... looking for?" Voshkie'ahk tries to catch her breath.
"Hey, not bad kiddo. You found it with twenty seconds to spare. Not bad. Truth be told, I've been looking for this bottle, but I lost track of it. I heard this stuff is excellent," Qrow takes the bottle from Voshkie'ahk and heads to the cashier.
Voshkie'ahk watches in shock before she boils over and is about to rip her hair out.
Skit 3: The War of Love
Weiss is with Pyrrha and Blake as they head to the library to study.
"So, are you guys planning on going to the Festival party? I hear Vale does it every year as something of a prequel to the Vytal Festival. And since they're hosting the Vytal Festival this year, they're trying to make it more splendid than they usually do it," Pyrrha explains as they walk inside.
Blake ponders the idea for a moment, "Well, I don't know. I mean, I guess it could be fun. We've done a lot of training and preparation for the Vytal Festival tournament, so I think it would be alright to have one day to enjoy ourselves before then,"
"Well, I wouldn't say I'm opposed to the idea, except for any moron trying to ask me out to go there. I'd rather go there with my friends. Besides, I don't really have the time for romance right now," Weiss adds.
Down one book aisle, Edom listens in and gets an idea when they don't notice him.
"This is perfect. I can take Weiss to the festival party. Hopefully she'll be willing to except it," Edom claps his hands together.
"Oh really," he hears and looks behind him to see Winter standing there. "And what makes you think that will go so well?"
"Winter, what are you doing here?" Edom gets defensive.
"What? A lady can't visit her younger sister to see how she's doing. That includes making sure no dogs try something with my precious sister," Winter stares menacingly into his mask. "What makes you think you are worthy of taking MY sister on a date?"
Edom stands his ground, "What do I need to do to prove that I am?"
Winter smirks.
…
"Come on, this should be easy. We've only done three laps around the school so far!" Winter yells through a microphone while riding a Manticore summon as Edom races around the school grounds. "You're free to give up anytime,"
"I will... not give up... for Weiss," Edom keeps his resolve strong, even as he's running out of breath.
"Well, we'll see about that," Winter mutters.
…
Next, Winter has Edom learn how to dance with a partner... that partner being one of her Beowolf summons.
"If you're going to take my sister on a date, then you must be skilled in proper etiquette and know how to dance. The two-step is a basic dance art; if you can't learn that, then you can forget taking her out on a date," Winter stands off to the side next to a music box playing classical music.
Edom steps in sync with the Beowolf summon... while also making sure it doesn't bite his head off every now and then.
"Keep cool, man. This is... for Weiss," Edom braves through the awkwardness of his situation.
…
After facing numerous challenges created by Winter, Edom stands... sort of, in front of Winter after completing her last challenge.
"Well, I must admit, that I did not expect you to not only do every test I gave you, but actually complete them. I must say, that I am impressed," Winter notes.
"So, have I... earned your approval now," Edom gasps for air.
Winter nods, "Yes, you have earned the right to take my sister out on a date," but then she watches as Edom first looks elated... and then falls onto the ground, passed out. "Well, at least you've earned the right to take her on a date another time. As for the Festival party, don't worry; I will happily escort my sister in your place. Good day," Winter then leaves as she whistles away.
