To all my readers-I want everyone to know that for the duel of Yugi Muto and Maximillion Pegasus will take a while for me to write because I want to upload them in a certain way. They'll still be in episode order, mind you, I'm just going to be uploading them differently. So dont rush me on those chapters, otherwise I will delay uploading them by a month. Okay?
As I was writing this and the next four chapters, I did a little research on Pegasus. At the time I got the complete series of Yugioh, I didn't know if Pegasus was an American or not. Meaning, I didn't know if he was British who was born in the UK and immigrated to the United States as a child or if he was and raised in the United States using British mannerisms. Anyway, I looked up the international kidnapping law so Paige will have something to say about that. Also, since I'm writing season 1, I wont write in the Big 5's names until season 3.
If anyone, and I mean anyone tries to rush me while writing this fanfic or any of my other fanfics, all written chapters will be delayed for a week. No exceptions. Leave a positive review and Happy Reading!
I DONT OWN YUGIOH AT ALL! I ONLY OWN THE OC AND HER DUELING DECK!
Shoutouts:
"This is it. Just me and the deck Grandpa gave me against Pegasus." thought Yugi, going through his deck. "Pegasus may have captured his soul, but his heart has always been right here with me and Paige in these cards. Trust me, Gramps. I won't let you and Paige down. You taught me and Paige everything we know about Duel Monsters…about the rules, strategy, and about stuff you can't learn in books."
[Flashback]
"If you only remember one thing, Yugi, Paige, remember this…." Grandpa said to the siblings. "you must never lose faith in yourself."
"What do you mean, Grandpa?" asked Paige. "What happens if you lose faith yourself?"
"Well Paige, if you don't believe you can win, then you'll suffer defeat, not only in duel monster, but in life." Grandpa explained.
"Mmm." said Yugi, nodding at their grandfather's words.
"Believe me, that advice is more valuable than any card you'll ever own." said Grandpa, then smiled at his grandchildren. "I should know. I've collected the best cards in the game."
"Grandpa!" said Paige, smiling at the man.
[Flashback ends]
"And you gave them all to me. I'll use them all to win." thought Yugi. "I'll rescue you from Pegasus!"
Putting his deck away, Yugi turns to face the doors and as soon as they opened, he sees his friends and his sister. "Huh?"
"Surprise!" said Tea and Paige.
"Guys, what are you doing…." Yugi started to asked.
"Hey, Yuge, we all wanted to wish you well." said Tristan.
"And give you a good luck hug." said Paige, hugging her brother.
"You're the best." said Yugi, returning the hug.
"Looks like you finally made it." said Joey. "You're goin' all the way, buddy."
"And once it's all over, we'll get your grandpa home." said Tea.
"Mmm. Thank you, Tea. That means a lot." said Yugi.
"The time has come." said Croquet. "Would Yugi Muto the challenger please enter the duel ring? Mr. Pegasus awaits you."
"Go get him, Yuge." said Joey.
"One more for the road?" asked Paige.
"You know it." said Yugi, hugging her again.
"YUGIOH!"
Paige then looks up to see Yami. "Thanks for the hug." he tells her.
"You're welcome." she said, smiling at him.
"Let's end this, Pegasus!" said Yugi as Yami stares Croquet down.
"He looks so determined." said Tea.
"Yugi, take him down!" shouted Tristan.
"We know you can!" cried Tea.
"Do it for Grandpa!" cried Paige.
"Put that slime bucket in his place once and for all!" shouted Joey.
"The challenger has entered the stadium." Croquet said to the others in the wings. "And now, for your dueling pleasure, Castle Pegasus is proud to present the creator of duel monsters and all its wonderous cards…"
"And thief of my grandfather's soul." said Yugi.
"The undefeated, undisputed ruler of duelist kingdom, Maximillion Pegasus." Croquet announced as Pegasus chuckles.
"At last, I finally face Pegasus!" said Yugi. "It will take all the wisdom my grandpa gave me and all the power of my cards, but I will defeat him!"
"And now, let the duel begin!" said Croquet.
"Hmm…" said Pegasus, clearing his throat as he motions to his employee that held his deck. "So, Yugi-boy, you've turned out to be quite the young duelist, battling your way past all the other challengers, winning your away into the castle, just to face me."
"Pegasus!" Yami bellowed. "Before we begin this duel, I want you to agree to keep your promise that if I defeat you, you'll release my grandfather's soul to me!"
"You tell him!" shouted Paige.
"But of course. I'm a man of my word." said Pegasus.
"And that's not all!" said Yami. "You must all set free the souls of Seto and Mokuba Kaiba."
"What a strange demand. I thought you hated Kaiba as much as you hate me, Yugi." said Pegasus.
"Maybe I need to keep a vow of my own, Pegasus." said Yami.
[Flashback]
"But…" said Mokuba, turning away. "But then, what can I do?"
"You can start by trusting in me, and together, we can defeat Pegasus." Yami tells Mokuba.
[Flashback ends]
"I made a promise to Mokuba, a vow that I would reunite him with his brother." said Yugi.
"Ah, I see." said Pegasus, reading Yami's mind. "A vow to Mokuba."
"Did he just read my mind?" Yugi asked Yami.
"Okay, Yugi-boy, if it will put your mind at ease, I agree to your terms." said Pegasus, not wanting to give his secret away and shows three cards with Mokuba's, Kaiba's and Grandpa's souls in them. "If you win your battle with me, I shall free these three from their lonesome prison of souls."
"Pegasus is up to something." said Tristan.
"I know." said Joey. "I think he planned to take Yugi on in the final match all along."
"He's after something, that's for sure." said Tea.
"I hope that Yugi can handle him." said Bakura. "Throughout the entire tournament, Pegasus has stacked the deck in his own favor every step of the way."
"You kiddin' me? Yugi's gonna kick his keister!" said Joey. "She's right. When this is all over, Yugi's gonna be the undisputed champion. Pegasus won't even have a clue what hit him."
"Pegasus needs to be taken down for what he did to us and the Kaiba brothers." said Paige, glaring at the duel monsters creator.
"They're right! I know it!" added Tea.
"Hmm…"
"I don't know." said Bakura.
"You can't have such a negative attitude, guys. Yugi's counting on us, too." said Joey.
"But Pegasus has never played fair." said Tristan. "He started by kidnapping Yugi and Paige's grandpa. And going into this final match, we don't know what kind of tricks he'll pull."
"True but Yugi will teach him that lesson." said Paige as Tristan turns to her. "A lesson of playing fair and square. Then Pegasus will finally understand that kidnapping people is a federal offense."
"How do you know that?" asked Bakura.
"Boredom." said Tea and Joey.
"I did research on it." said Paige. "Anyway, since we can't tell the US government that Pegasus took Grandpa by magic…."
"They wouldn't believe us and hold Pegasus account for kidnapping your Grandpa's soul. You're right." said Tristan.
"Whatever tricks he tries, whatever card he plays, Yugi will overcome them." said Tea. "Yugi hasn't come all this way to lose in the final match."
"Look at him." scoffed Joey as they all looked at Pegasus. "No way that overdressed prima donna stands a chance against our buddy."
"Maybe." said Tristan.
"Trust me, Yugi's no Kaiba. He's gonna beat this clown." Joey tells him.
"That's because Yugi's better than Kaiba." said Paige, causing Joey to smile.
"Now that just made my day." said Joey.
"They're just about to draw their first cards." said Tea. "Let's head to the upper gallery so we can get a better view."
"Good idea, Tea." said Joey as they went upstairs while Tristan and Bakura stayed where they are.
"Guess there's nothing we can do but wait for the duel to play out." said Bakura. "Pegasus holds all the cards right now. As long as he holds his prisoners, we're going to be at his mercy, not matter what the outcome of the game."
"Right." said Tristan, running in the other direction.
"Tristan, where are you going?" asked Bakura.
"I'm gonna see if I can find Kaiba or Mokuba anywhere, because if I can get 'em back, even without their souls, then Pegasus won't hold all the cards." Tristan explained.
"A search for their empty vessels…not a bad idea." thought Yami Bakura, smirking.
"Challenger Yugi Muto, as per the rules of the duelists kingdom tournament, present the card that entitles you to participate." said Croquet.
"As per your rules, here it is…" said Yami, showing the card that was given to Yugi. "Glory of the King's opposite hand."
"So it is." Croquet said, nodding. "And so the stage is set for the final and deciding duel of the duelist kingdom competition. Just as the card you hold is a blank slate, there are no limits to the prize you may request of your opponent if you are victor. You can decide if you wish to take over his company as your reward for winning."
"Huh?" said Yami, confused.
"You can ask for this entire island or demand Mr. Pegasus' millenium eye as your prize." Croquet continued.
"This is crazy!" said Joey.
"This entire island is a little too much. I wouldn't even consider it for Grandpa to retire on." said Paige, causing Yami to smile as he hears this.
"I wouldn't either." said Tea, then sees Bakura walk up to them. "Oh. Well, where's Tristan?"
"Oh. He wandered off somewhere by himself." said Bakura. "I'm not sure where he is."
"Probably just went to the john." said Joey. "Forget him. This is just gettin' interestin'."
"Hmm? 'Any request will be honored'?" said Pegasus. "Wow. That's what I call a prize. Do I know how to throw a tournament…or do I know how to throw a duelist kingdom tournament!"
"Promise me you will free the souls of my grandfather and all the others." said Yami.
"Yes…." said Pegasus, arms opened wide. "But if I am the one that defeats you instead, you have to fulfill your end of the bargain as well. Take a close look at the card you hold in your hand, Yugi-boy. There's a reason why that its blank, you know. For if I win, I claim your soul….forever!"
"No!" screamed Paige, causing Yami to turn his attention on her, seeing the look on her face as she turns into Tea's side.
"Hmm." said Yami, glaring at Pegasus.
"So you see, you have much to gain….but much to risk as well." said Pegasus
"It's a risk I'm willing to take to free the soul of my grandpa and the others." said Yami. "But I don't plan to lose."
"We shall see." said Pegasus.
"We will indeed, Pegasus." said Yami, holding his first drawn card.
"So courageous. So defiant." Pegasus said.
"Did you hear that?" asked Tea, holding Paige against her. "If Yugi loses, Pegasus will steal his soul, too."
"I'm gonna lose my brother." said Paige.
"What a creep." said Joey. "But even knowin' what's on the line, Yugi still isn't gonna back down."
"True. He's betting his own soul on the outcome." said Bakura.
"That's our Yugi. He'd do anything for anybody. Even his own sister." said Joey.
"Yes. But this is the biggest gamble I've ever seen anybody take on duel monsters." Bakura said to Joey, as the blonde sighs.
"Oh, Yugi, you just can't lose." thought Tea. "Paige would be lost without you. If you did, I…you just have to win. You have to!"
"I hate to disappoint you, Pegasus, but I have no intention of ever becoming a part of your soul card collection." said Yami.
"Hmm." thought Pegasus. "Not only will you become a part of my card collection, Yugi, but by defeating you, I secure my control of Kaiba Corporation….and all its inventions."
"The duel is about to begin." said Big #1. "Pegasus has patched us in via his satellite network."
"That's excellent." said Big #2.
"If he wins against Yugi, we'll broadcast worldwide." said Big #3.
"And the publicity will restore our company's reputation among duelists." said Big #4.
"Our secret alliance with Pegasus will pay off at last…very handsomely." said Big #5, chuckling evilly.
"All of my plans have come to fruition in this one final duel." thought Pegasus. "And if all proceeds as I have envisioned, Yugi's millenium puzzle will soon be mine."
"The final duelist contest will now begin." said Croquet. "The winner will be declared King of Games."
"Wow." said Paige, surprised that Yugi will earned that title.
"Now both of you cut and shuffle your opponent's cards." instructed Croquet. Once they placed their decks on the trays, Yami cut and shuffled while Pegasus tapped his deck.
"It's good as is." said Pegasus.
"Now the cards will be returned, the scores reset, and…."
"Duel!" said Pegasus and Yami, drawing their first hand.
"You have come far, Yugi-boy, and learned much, as I wished." thought Pegasus, then smirks. "But you're still a novice compared to me, for I have mastered the power of my millenium item."
"I won't lose! I can't lose!" thought Yugi.
In a tower, Tristan was wandering alone. "What have I gotten myself into?" he asked himself. "This castle is humongous!" He then walks down a corridor. "This is worse than tryin' to find your friends down at the mall. There's no sign of Kaiba or Mokuba or anyone else down here."
Around the corner, Tristan heard someone coming his way, humming. "Oh! I spoke too soon." said Tristan, freaking out as he tries to find a place to hide. Pegasus' crony walks by, passing a suit of armor that Tristan was now wearing.
He sighs in relief as the crony turns the corner. "Huh?" said Tristan.
"Time to change shifts." said the first crony. "How is the little twerp?"
"The same as ever…glassy-eyed and glum. Ha!" said the guard. "You don't have to worry about him running off."
"Of course not." said the first crony. "But you know, we still have to be careful. He's Pegasus' pet prisoner."
"Pet, schmet." said the guard, unknown to the both of them that Tristan was slowly moving towards the corner in the suit of armor. "I'm outta here."
"Catch you later." said the crony.
"Right." said the guard, leaving and walks past Tristan.
"I'm on the right track." thought Tristan, then leans forward groaning. "Boy, this armor's heavy! Huh?" Looking through the metal visor, Tristan saw that the new guard disappeared. "Where'd the other guard go? This is a dead end. There's nowhere he could've gone. Wow. How strange."
Just then, he steps on a stone crack in the floor and falls forward. "Whoops!"
Tristan grabs the dragon in front of him, bringing the head down and causing a secret door to open. "What?" Tristan asked, confused. "A secret tunnel! But where does it lead?"
"I feel like we're hangin' out in the old west, waitin' for the first cowboy to draw." said Joey.
"Will one of you make the first move already?!" shouted Paige. "I'm getting bored up here!"
"Hmm." said Yami, knowing Paige well enough and made the first move. "This is it. Now we begin. I lay one card face down…and throw this monster card in defense mode."
The machine hums as two spaces on Yami's side glows. "Ooh, a sneaky play." said Pegasus, then reads his mind. "That wouldn't be a Beaver Warrior, would it?"
"Is his millennium eye really allowing him to read my cards?" thought Yugi as Pegasus chuckled.
"Oh, this is so much fun." said Pegasus, drawing his card. "Hmm…I'll lay this card face down as well…and throw this…my own monster card. I play Red Archery Girl in Defense Mode."
Red Archery Girl (ATT:1,400/ DEF:1,500) appeared in her shell on the field with her bow and arrow laying across her back, giggling at Yami. "Back to you, Yugi-boy." said Pegasus.
"Red Archery Girl?" Yugi thought. "Why did he play such a weak monster in defense mode? Is he trying to draw me into an attack?"
Pegasus chuckled as his millennium eye sparkled for a moment. "Yugi-boy, I know all….I see all." thought Pegasus. "The cards you have face down are…Beaver Warrior and Horn of the Unicorn. In the next turn, you plan to use these two in a combination attack."
"Pegasus seems so confident." thought Yugi. "But that's always been his style…never to reveal his true motives. His down card worries me, but I can't pass up this chance to gain an early point advantage. I have to take a chance and strike!"
"I switch the Beaver Warrior I had hidden to Attack mode!" said Yami as Beaver Warrior appears on the field, laughing. "And I activate my hidden card, the Horn of the Unicorn, as well."
Horn of the Unicorn appears on Beaver Warrior's forehead as it growls, pointing its sword towards Pegasus. "His electricity powers up his sword, raising Beaver Warrior's attack power by 700!" said Yami as Beaver Warrior's attack power increased to 1,900. "Now…attack the Archery Girl!"
"You've made a grave mistake, Yugi." said Pegasus. "You've activated my trap card…."
"I should've known." thought Yugi.
"Tears of a Mermaid!" said Pegasus, activating his trap card. Archery Girl laughs as her eyes glowed and sends bubbles towards Beaver Warrior, who growls in return.
"What's happening?" asked Yami as the bubbles surrounded Beaver Warrior.
"Unfortunately for you, Tears of a Mermaid activates the moment an opponent's hidden card is put into play." Pegasus explains. "It blocks all possible attacks by the opponent's monster. The Beaver Warrior's electric attack backfires against the Beaver itself, and its attack power drops to its original value."
"Wow." said Paige as Beaver Warrior's attack power drops back down to 1,200, causing Yami to growl angrily.
"Now that its weaker, I'll switch my Red Archery girl into attack mode." said Pegasus, switching the card. "Archery Girl…turn that Beaver into road kill."
Archery Girl pulls back her arrow, ready to fire. "Archery Girl….attack!" ordered Pegasus and Archery Girl fires, laughing as her bow lands on Beaver Warrior, destroying him on the field. "Beaver Warrior is eliminated."
Yami's life points dropped to 1,800 as Pegasus said it. "Did you see that? Yugi had the upper hand, but Pegasus knew exactly how to counter." said Tea.
"But how could he?" asked Joey. "Maybe Pegasus could read minds."
"Doubt it." said Paige as Joey looks up, trying to find Tristan.
"And why the heck hasn't Tristan come back yet?" Joey asked. "We should all be here supportin' Yugi."
"How should I know? I'm not his keeper." said Paige.
"Beats me. Maybe he got lost." said Bakura.
"Good grief!" said Joey, turning his attention back to the duel. "Don't he realize that he's missin' the match of the century?"
"Again, I say that I'm not Tristan's keeper." said Paige.
"I know, I know. I heard ya the first time." said Joey.
"Pegasus must be reading my mind." thought Yugi. "It's the only way he could've been so prepared to counter my cards."
Pegasus chuckles malevolently as he uses his millennium eye. "Finally, Yugi-boy is a believer." thought Pegasus.
"How can I win against an opponent who can know my cards and sense my strategies as soon as I think them up?" asked Yugi.
"How indeed? I think…oh, wait, I know you're just beginning to comprehend my power. Do you now realize the magnitude of the jeopardy you've put yourself in by accepting this duel?" asked Pegasus. "How can you defeat not only the creator of Duel Monsters, but a duelist who could read your every thought? I can see everything in your mind….your hopes, your dreams, even your fears. And what you fear even right now is me, and with good reason. You know my mind-reading abilities give me an unbeatable advantage."
"This is just a nightmare." said Joey. "We all know Yugi can beat anybody in a fair duel, but if Pegasus is able to read his mind…."
"Its what makes his eye one of the most powerful millenium items." said Bakura. "He can read anyone's mind he chooses. Anyone who tries to oppose him must use extreme caution."
"And if its one of the most powerful millenium items…." said Paige, then gulps. "Now I'm scared of having my soul taken away from my body."
"I guess so." said Joey as Tea hugs Paige. "You seem to know an awful lot about that eye, Bakura."
"Just a little." he said. "One thing I don't know is if any mere mortal can stand against it."
"If not, there's no one else who can save Grandpa and the others." said Joey.
"Uhh! With a secret staircase and all, they've gotta be hidin' somethin' down here." said Tristan as he went down the staircase. "Huh?" He then hears the guard humming around the corner.
"Man, this is, like, the most boing detail ever." said the guard. "I mean, what's the point of guardin' this kid? Without a soul, he's a total zombie. Hmm! It's a waste of time!"
"Wanna bet?" asked Tristan, shoving the helmet he had in his hands on top of the guard's head.
"Huh?" asked the guard, looking up. "Hunhh! Unhh! Uhhh…." The guard struggled for a moment before falling to the ground.
"Sweet dreams." said Tristan as the guard was knocked out. "And the victory goes to Sir Tristan. Huh?"
Tristan looks over at the cell and sees Mokuba with a blank stare on his face, curled up on the bed. "Mokuba?" asked Tristan, shocked to see him. He picks up the keys and goes over to unlock the cell doors.
Somewhere in the castle, security was alerted. "There's been a breach." said one of the security guards.
"No matter what the odds, I will never surrender to you, Pegasus." said Yami, placing another card onto the field. "I play one monster in defense mode and end my turn. Now do your worst."
"I always do." Pegasus said, chuckling evilly. Just then, Croquet's phone rings.
"What is it?" he asked, answering his phone.
"We detected a potential problem in sector 5." said Security. "I'm attempting to verify, but our guard down there wont reply. There appears to be a breach and there could be an intruder. Master Pegasus asked to be notified immediately should anything…."
"Master Pegasus is currently dueling." Croquet tells security. Suddenly, the millenium ring pulses around Bakura's neck, sensing something was going wrong in the castle.
"Then what are your orders, sir?" asked Security.
"Listen. Secure all the exits. The boy must not be freed." Croquet tells him.
"Yes, sir." he said and the call ends.
"Hmm." said Bakura, smirking.
"Yugi! You can do it!" shouted Tea.
"Nobody's won this yet, buddy!" shouted Joey.
"Go, Yugi!" shouted Paige.
"Stairwell's closed off." said Tristan as he carried Mokuba's body on his back. "Just great. I guess they must be onto me."
"Could it be…my turn?" Pegasus said, tauntingly as he drew his next card.
"What's that sleazebag gonna pull this time?" asked Joey.
"A coin from your ear?" Paige sarcastically asked.
"Why I oughta!" he said, turning to Paige.
"It's the moment you've all been waiting for." said Pegasus. "First…Ryu-Ran in defense mode." Ryu-Ran (ATT:2,200/ DEF:2,600) appears on the field.
"Not eggs-actly what you were expecting, is it?" asked Pegasus. "And I switch the Archery Girl into defense mode, too."
As Archery Girl giggles, she places her bow and arrow behind her while Ryu-Ran growls at Yami. Continuing to carry Mokuba, Tristan ran through the corridor, trying to find a way back up to the others. "Ohhh…" said Tristan, finding a dead end. "Another dead end. This way's no good, either."
"Over here!" shouted a guard as Tristan turns around to go back down the corridor.
"Trapped." he said to himself. "There's nowhere else to run."
"Your move, Yugi." said Pegasus.
"I'll scramble your egg. If that's the best you've got, I'll still defeat you." said Yami, staring Pegasus down.
"Yugi…so full of banter at this dire peril." thought Pegasus. "I guess he needs another demonstration of my millennium magic. All right, Yugi…first, let's read your mind and see what's in your hand."
Reading what was in Yami's hand, Pegasus became pleased. "Ooh…nice cards." he thought. "Now what are you going to draw?"
"Hmm. Hmm." Yami looked down at the card in his hand, then over at Pegasus.
"Could the card you just drew be Summoned Skull?" asked Pegasus.
"Curse you, Pegasus!" shouted Yami.
"I think the Summoned Skull will go very nicely with your Celtic Guardian, Spellbinding Circle, Magical Hats, and Horn Imp." said Pegasus.
"He's reading all of Yugi's cards." said Tea.
"Don't let him psych you out, buddy." said Joey.
"You got this, Yugi." said Paige.
"That's right! You can still beat him." added Tea.
"How?" asked Yugi. "He knows all my cards the instant I draw! With that millenium eye of his, he's unstoppable!"
