The Submissive
Chapter Five: The Beast
Bella Swan
The second we hit the freeway there was no stopping Emmett. I watched him closely without notice as he pressed his foot to the ground, I listened as the engine purred like a kitten for him as he took us above a hundred and twenty miles an hour. Still he drove with one hand clamped on the steering wheel and the other resting comfortably in his lap. Emmett knew speed I could not comprehend as a human, he was capable of running ten times the speed we sat at now.
He wasn't about speed, when it came to Emmett it was his brute strength that gave him the edge over his siblings. He was speeding for me, he knew now that I wanted to be taken out of my comfort zone and we had the whole night to test me to my limit. Emmett knew what I'd endured, he knew my scars, it was a safe bet he knew exactly what I could handle. I wanted to know more, I wanted to know what he thought of me and my capabilities.
Tonight was the night we found out.
Emmett wasn't slowing down, he manoeuvred between every car around us until he once again took the lead. A few cars we passed blasted their horns but neither of us paid them the slightest bit of attention which surprised me most of all. I hadn't suddenly become another person in the space of a five-minute car ride, I was simply too wrapped up in the moment to consider common decency.
Neither of us said a word to the other but the silence was comfortable, Emmett had to remain focused, and I was living my best life. So much had happened in the last few days that blowing off steam was necessary. Either one of us could have been killed in the fight, Victoria had gotten close enough to me and who knows how many newborns Emmett had put down on the field.
Looking his way now, I wanted to ask him about what had happened on the battlefield, but not about the fight so much as his focus on me afterwards. I wondered if Rosalie had been standing at his side if he would have still met my eyes the way he did. Would his eyes have still lingered? No probably not. Next to her I was nothing to look at, she was a dream and I was only human.
Would it be so wrong to test his attention? I knew the answer already of course. I couldn't do that, I couldn't even consider trying to gain Emmett's attention. The mere idea of it made my stomach knot and my blood run blood. I felt like my own thoughts were betraying Edward, that if he saw me right now he'd see someone he didn't even recognize.
If only Emmett hadn't looked at me like that, I wouldn't be questioning myself now.
The reality was, he did look at me, no matter how hard I tried to think differently about it we both knew what he had done.
If he could test me then I could test him back.
I unbuckled my seatbelt, which immediately caused Emmett to look my way only I refused to meet his eyes. I reached down for my backpack and unzipped the front, inside I unzipped my small toiletry bag to retrieve the lipstick I had packed before closing the bag up. I dumped it back down to the floor and pushed myself forward in my seat, reaching up for the vanity mirror I pulled open my lipstick, sure I could that feel Emmett watching me still.
I slowly speared the light pink lipstick across my already coated lip filling in any spots, adding an even amount and attention to both my upper and lower lip. Once finished, I pressed my lips together and ran my index finger across the bottom of my lip to get a clean line edge.
I pushed the lipstick into a side pocket of my bag before I returned my attention to the mirror. Not knowing what more to do I merely began running my fingers through my hair giving it a little volume before pushing the mirror back up out of sight. I sunk into the back of my hair and proceed to put my seatbelt back on.
Then and only then did I look Emmett's way, only to find he wasn't looking my way after all. He was focusing on the road instead.
It was wrong that I was disappointed, but I was more embarrassed than anything else. I had tried to get his attention knowing his love and passion for Rosalie, suddenly I was the girl wearing Walmart, with a cheap lipstick on and a guilty heart.
"Why don't you wear makeup more often?" Emmett asked, pulling me from my thoughts.
"I don't know, it's not really my thing"
"It is tonight"
What was that suppose to mean? That my make up was good? That something was different about tonight?
"I'm sure Alice and Rosalie could teach me a thing or two"
Emmett cleared his throat then but didn't answer.
It was the first time I had said Rosalie's name in the car. But why did he react like that?
"Do you buy Rosalie makeup?"
"Sometimes"
I was surprised, I wanted to know more.
"I can't imagine you doing that"
"I do it online, less questions"
I laughed and Emmett immediately smiled.
"So what does Edward buy you?"
"Erm, nothing. I've never asked him for anything"
"Nothing?"
"No, why would I? He already knows what I want"
"Still, he is your boyfriend. Doesn't he spoil you?"
"You said that like its a bad thing"
Emmett shrugged.
"What sort of things do you buy Rosalie?"
Emmett looked my way before looking forward and pressing his lips together.
"I can keep a secret"
He sniggered, "It's not a secret, Bella. It's just private"
Who would have known under all the muscles and brute fighting was a gentlemen. Still, I had come this far I could push the boat out a little more.
"Diamonds?" I asked, keeping my attention on the road this time too.
Emmett was silent and didn't look my way.
"On occasion" He eventually replied.
"Clothes?"
"Yes"
I looked his way then "Lingerie?" I asked
Emmett looked my way and smirked before looking forward.
"Sometimes"
I looked away from him then and silence quickly followed.
"Well now I know"
"You know what?" I asked
"What Edward isn't buying you"
I laughed and shook my head "I don't want any of those things. I was just teasing"
"Yes you were"
Why was I blushing?
If Emmett could handle my crazy questions then maybe I could try and be honest with him too.
"We don't have sex" I admitted.
"I figured" Emmett replied.
I looked over at him "I'm sorry that was-"
"No" He stopped me and shook his head "No. It's fine"
"I'm guessing he doesn't talk about that side with you"
"He doesn't talk about a lot of things. But that's just who he is"
I nodded in agreement.
We pulled off the freeway and Emmett took us into a city, within fifteen minutes everything changed very quickly. We'd gone from tall glass buildings, Starbucks, restaurants, and night clubs to brown buildings as far as the human eye could see, homeless people on the streets, food carts, boarded up buildings, cars stripped for parts, and even woman on corners.
"Where are we?"
"Are you afraid?"
Edward's words again.
Only this time I simply shook my head.
Emmett pulled into a car park in front of a large four floored building, people were heading for the entry doors from all over. We were a long way from Forks now.
"What we are doing here?"
Emmett cut the engine and looked my way.
"I come here sometimes, alone"
"Why? What is this place?"
Emmett looked to the building and back at me.
"Underground fighting"
I looked at the building and watched the people heading inside. There were two large set guys at either side of the door taking money from each person heading in.
I look to Emmett "You don't come here to watch do you?"
He smirked.
"How many times have you fought here?"
"Twelve"
"Does Rosalie know you do this?"
"No. I'd like to keep that way"
"Why?"
"I like having a secret of my own"
Least he was being honest about it.
"Look, we don't have to go in. I could drive us back to Forks right-"
"Why do you fight?"
Emmett laughed "Cause I'm pretty good at it"
I looked to him and bit my lower lip, his eyes travelled down to my lip but returned to my eyes before it became too obvious and awkward.
"How much does it pay?"
"Smart girl"
I shrugged.
He didn't need money that was obvious, but it's underground fighting everyone knows people fought for money.
"Depends on how many bets. Usually I walk away with five or ten grand"
"What do you do with the money?"
"I spend it on Rose"
I nodded and looked back to the building once again.
"But not tonight" Emmett said beside me "Whatever I win in there I'll spend on you"
I laughed and stopped when I turned to meet his eyes. He wasn't smiling anymore, his face was stern, he was actually being serious. He was gonna spend his winnings on me? WHY?
"Emmett"
Before I could say anything, he turned and opened his door stepping out of the car.
I got out behind him and he locked the car.
We made our way towards the building and Emmett settled his hand on my hip, I looked up at him but his focus wasn't on me, his face was stern. We weren't in Forks anymore. I was terrified and beyond curious about what lay ahead.
"You don't mind right?" Emmett asked as we walked side by side.
Did it matter if I did?
"No" I replied.
I didn't even imagine what lay in store for us once inside what shamed me to my core was my one and only thought.
A selfish and disgusting thought. What was he going to buy me?
