The Arendelle group gently slid down Mothra's wing to the ground, all eyes focused on the enormous eggs no more than a few dozens of yards before them, their shells covered with a silky, web like substance that clung to the walls of the enormous chamber. Anna inaudibly gulped, the scene reminding her of spider's web, only much bigger, and she wondered, or more correctly feared, a gigantic spider was waiting somewhere nearby, ready to rush out and feast on them.
Insects. Never my strong suit! She mentally commented, though wondering how she was able to deal with Mothra.
Kristoff grabbed her hand and gave her a reassuring squeeze, giving her a reassuring look, hoping too this was nothing dangerous. Olaf giggled at the eggs, commenting on how 'Beautiful and slimy they looked'. Elsa gazed the eggs silently, but in complete wonder. This was the first time she, and of course the rest of her family, had seen any kind of youngling form of these titans. Though she could not doubt it was amazing, part of her wondered how the babies would look when they emerged.
A low crooning noise from above made the Arendelle group look up to see Mothra amble over to the eggs, stopping and lowering her head to gently nuzzle them as if they were already hatched. Her antennae rubbed against them, soft purrs filling the chamber.
"What's she doing?" Kristoff asked Moll and Lora, the former of who was walking over to the eggs alongside the gigantic titan.
"Mosura is checking the development of the smaller egg. It's taking a little longer to form, but it's alright," Lora explained. "Oh, yes," she added, seeing the group stare at her slightly confused. "One of the eggs is laying on its side, its not very well revealed because of the silk. Come, let me show you,"
She led them towards the eggs. As they neared, they saw a wide stream that ran down a crack in the ground towards one of the walls, disappearing underneath it. Elsa conjured up a small bridge of ice and, with Olaf squealing in delight, rushed ahead to the eggs. Kristoff rolled his eyes and smirked whilst the girls giggled, the antics and positivity of their little snowman always one to bring a smile to their faces. They crossed the stream and walked up to the edge of the blanket of silk, at once being hit with a wave of lavender and sweetness that seemed to radiate off the sticky substance all of a sudden as if welcoming itself to them. Inside, the egg just in front of them stood at almost fifty feet tall, the smaller one on the right being a little smaller at around thirty feet. The shells were completely snow white, as if Elsa had cast her magic over them, giving them a slight glow in the little light that came in from a hole in the ceiling above them.
"Wow!" Anna breathed, letting go of Kristoff and walking up to it; Elsa, Kristoff and Sven following close behind. "It looks incredible." She paused and inhaled deeply. "And smells wonderful!"
"I agree, it is wonderful." Elsa commented.
Moll came up next to them. "I know, and it will be better when Mosura's spawn arrives." Olaf's giggles made them look nearby to see his head stuck in the silk with his stick arms just below it. The rest of the body and his legs were just a little further up, also stuck in the silk, but were continuing to walk.
"Sticky!" He giggled.
Moll placed a hand over her mouth as she tried not to burst out laughing. The time she had spent with the little creation of Elsa's back in Arendelle and on their journey here was always joyous. His carefree, innocent, childlike nature made any situation brighter. She could see why the others always kept him with them.
"I'll get him," Kristoff said, motioning for Sven, who had been just about to stick his tongue out at the web, to come with him.
Elsa smiled at Anna. "Never a dull moment with him," she said.
"Not at all," Anna replied.
Another crooning noise from above drew their attention, though it sounded more high-pitched, as if alarmed, surprised. Urgent even. The gigantic moth moved around the other side of the eggs and then bent down again her head disappearing from view and her antennae reaching out to something the group could not see. The two Arendelle girls noticed Moll stiffen a little upon hearing it. Lora's voice called out from somewhere nearby.
"Everyone! Come quick!" the woman's voice called out urgently, yet it sounded more elated than anything. "Quick! Quick!"
Moll rushed over to where Lora and Mothra were; the girls following close behind. They heard Kristoff and Olaf exclaiming, but it was quickly drowned out as the sound of large cracks filled the air. They felt the ground rumble a little and the web began to shake wildly. Anna instinctively grabbed Elsa's hand, momentarily thinking back to her fear of spiders, and her elder sibling squeezed it in return. I'm here. Don't worry.
They reached the other side of the egg, which was sticking out from the web and was just under Mothra's chin. Kristoff, Olaf – now fully and correctly reassembled – and Sven emerged from the other side a few yards opposite them. The egg, once smooth, was covered a series webs of cracks that were reaching out across the sides and the back where they had just been a moment ago. A few pieces detached and fell. The Arendelle group backed away in case one of the pieces fell on them, but Moll and Lora seemed not to notice as they were staring up in amazement. Something moved inside and it must have tried to force its way out because the egg rocked slightly. Some of the web teared above them, which sounded like curtains or bedsheets being ripped in two. More loud cracks rang out and more pieces of the shell broke off.
"Uh, girls, is this safe?!" Elsa asked nervously.
"Don't worry, it's just hatching. The youngling is coming alive." Lora reassured her.
Elsa gave Anna a look of dismay. Not exactly what I meant!
Mothra moved back a few steps, emitting a few noises that sounded like soft moans and low purrs. Below the egg cracked again, rocked, then went still for a moment. Then, something sharp broke through and began to rip open the hole it had made. The object withdrew and then the silhouette of the thing inside threw itself against its prison, filling the air with the sound of a loud RIIIIIPPP! It was so loud it made Anna and Elsa wince and duck and grit their teeth eyes slamming shut in response to the noise. When they opened, they could not believe what stood before them.
It was like Mothra had duplicated, only the one that had just emerged from the egg was much smaller, though still enormous, at least some forty or fifty feet. It had the same structure as Mothra, but its body was more sleek, more thin, with four sharper looking legs that seemed to bend straight down like a bipedal's, and then bent backwards again and then down once more to a pointed end. The wings slowly unfolded and the creature made a soft noise akin to a human exhale of relief after a hard day of labour, or a long while being in an uncomfortable position. Said body parts were just like that of the parent; patterned with a variety of swirls, largely sunset red coloured adorning the ends, lines that ended in what looked like the shape of an eye. Traces of blue ran down the legs and parts of the wings and the section nearest the main body looked transparent, yet so flexible despite being a part of a somewhat gigantic insect. Two antennae draped down from the top of the head and the face held two large blue eyes, a pair of small mandibles just below them and white pattern akin to Native American decorative face paint that ran from the top of the head, between the eyes and then spread out both left and right, covering the bottom part of the face. Another pair or two of smaller legs were tucked away neatly under the main body, each one twitching and turning every few seconds as if they had a life of their own.
Moll and Lora stepped forward, beaming at the sight of the mini-Mothra, watching as the creature tucked the wings away across its back and then, as if noticing them for the first time, bent down, its head stopping just before the two girls.
"Mosura's spawn, by the grace of our ancestors and her gift of life, you have been born," they chirruped in perfect unison, their brown eyes never leaving the baby Mothra – for lack of a better term – before and above them, as they got on their knees and dipped their heads, then looked back at the creature. "May you bless us with your grace and protection."
The smaller Mothra made another noise, cocking its head to one side, then looked up the larger Mothra, purring. Mothra lowered her head towards her child and nuzzled her own head against it, antennae running along the sides of the head and over the wings.
"Awww so cute!" Olaf exclaimed. "They're having a hug," he told Kristoff and Sven.
Both the ice harvester and the reindeer nodded, rolling their eyes and smirking a little.
"Never would've guessed, Olaf," Kristoff commented, only to suddenly stop and freeze like a deer suddenly caught in the hunter's sight.
Baby Mothra had noticed them when Olaf spoke up and took a step towards them, its blue eyes curiously observing them. Kristoff gulped and Sven retreated a little, though Olaf waved and beamed at the creature.
"Hi, massively intimidating, yet so cute Baby moth! I'm Olaf and I love warm hugs!"
Baby Mothra cocked its head to one side, then looked up at its mother with a questioning gaze: What should I do?
Mothra made a small noise at her baby and gave a light nod at the boys. Go on.
Baby Mothra launched itself at the boys before they could even blink. Kristoff and Sven found themselves practically wrapped around its head as they tried to stop it from knocking them over; the reindeer pushing against his master. Olaf's body was, again, knocked apart, though this time the head and upper body section with the arms clung onto the creature's head, giggling madly and nuzzling into it, whilst the legs wandered around in desperation trying to find its owner.
Elsa and Anna winced, but could not suppress their grins as they watched the gigantic baby moth stop and pull its head back; Olaf still grabbing onto the face and giving a "Wheeee!" of enjoyment. Lora rushed over to them to reassure Kristoff and Sven, both of who surprised and relived not to have been crushed by Baby Mothra, then went to soothing it, urging it to gently put down the snowman, lest he get crushed.
"It is amazing, isn't it," Moll said to the girls as she walked over, all three of them observing the scene enjoyably.
"It certainly is," Elsa replied.
"And this baby Mothra seems to enjoy the boys too much." Anna added, eyes briefly flittering to Kristoff. "But with Olaf, I can't blame it."
Moll tittered. "Of course." She said and looked back up at Mothra as the gigantic goddess folded her wings behind herself and began to lay down, eyes flittering heavily. It let out a noise that started deep and loud, then went a little high pitched and quieter. Then she rested her head on the ground and, after closing the eyes, her body began to gently rise and fall.
"I think we best rest for now," Moll said, motioning over to Mothra. "It's
"Tell that to the baby!" Anna pointed out. "It'll be hard to get it to sleep."
"I'll leave it to you," Elsa nudged her sister, grinning cheekily. "You and Kristoff could use the experience!" she added, winking at her.
"Oh, thank you, that's very kind of y-wait, what!" Anna stopped and gave Elsa a shocked expression, to which her sister looked at her knowingly, a smile tugging at the edge of her lips.
Anna's face reddened. "Oh my! Elsa, it wasn't what you think! I mean, yeah when you were away we spent time together and kissed a lot and, well not only kiss, we also-gah! I mean, yeah we did a little more foreplay and-oh, no!" she slapped her hands over her face as her whole body turned red in embarrassment "I mean-!"
Elsa bit her lower lip, and had to clasp her hands together tightly to stop her from bursting out laughing, though her shoulders shook a little. Moll looked at them, perplexed and asked Anna what she was talking about. Anna wanted to sink into the ground in shame
"Oh!" Anna looked over at the boys and then blurted out: "Coming, Kristoff!" and immediately rushed over, hoping her sister would forget about this later.
Elsa giggled, covering her mouth, and trying not to burst out laughing, though it was hard for her to not do so. When Moll again inquired about the reason why Anna looked so flustered, Elsa just dismissed it as 'nothing'. You can never doubt that there won't be a dull moment with Anna around.
Though, as she calmed down, she felt herself becoming uncertain, tentative, even, dare I say, a little worried. Even though the current image of her sister trying to divert Kristoff's attention away from her flustered state to the baby Mothra, who was too busy playing with Olaf as the little snowman was still clinging onto its face, was calming in some way, Elsa could not help but feel that something dark lingered her on this island. It made her ponder, it made her mind race with questions, few of which she could answer.
What was to happen now? They had seen the birth of a baby Titian, so did that mean there were more of them here? If so, where? Would this baby Mothra be the only one they would see here on this island? And more importantly, where was this 'Father' Moll and Lora had told them all about?
And Godzilla? Where is he?
What else does this place have in store for us?
Those questions she hoped she would have the answers to soon.
