Chapter Four
Summer 12
As morning quickly arrives, Dorie gets out of bed as she lets out a big yawn. She goes over to make Harvey his coffee. As that happens she goes to freshen up, and comes back after a quick shower and a nice change of clothes. She takes the coffee and makes her way to the clinic tired. She walks in "Haaaarvey, I brought you cooooffeee…" she repeats herself as looks at Harvey "Haaarvey, I brought you coooooffeeee~…" he looks at her as she moves over the front desk and put the cup down "Coff-arti for Havarti" he stares her down as he raises an eyebrow "how much sleep did you get last night Dorie?" She mumbles sleepily "5 hours." He closes his eyes "as your doctor I advise you to go rest in the other room." Dorie smiles exhausted and turns and starts making her way to the room. "Yes Dr.handsome~" she closes the door as Harvey stares at it, blushing bright pink from his ears to his neck. As Dorie rests Harvey goes to work filling out papers and making sure the schedule is in order. 3 hours go by in a flash as Dorie comes out, rubbing her eye with one hand and holding her glasses in the other. "Mmmm I needed that…" she yawns as Harvey turns to her "oh good, you're finally awake." She looks at him as he continues "you know you don't need to bring me coffee every morning if you're tired Dorie." She moves over to him as she smiles softly "well I want to make sure you're starting your day off right Harv." He looks at her sweetly "that's very sweet of you, but my day is better if I know that you're getting enough rest. You can come anytime you want and I'd love it, not just in the mornings." Her smile grows bigger "thanks Doc" As she says that his mind flashes to the young purple hair girl that thanks him for helping her that night. He stares right at her as he begins to think. She makes her way over and pushes the door open "okay, I'll stop by before you close up. I'm off to the mines!" He looks at her with concern "please be careful Dorie." She closes her eyes as she walk out the door "Oh I'll be careful just for you~" Dorie walks up into the mountains once again and smirks as she makes her way to the mine entrance. She walks into the elevator and hit the 45th floor. The elevator creaks as she descend down, and as it gets lower it feels a bit colder until it finally reaches its destination. She walks out and begins to mine away floor after floor, she finds some copper and coal, as well as a few barrels full of loot. She makes it to the 65th floor as she wipes her brow and sighs. "I wonder how far these mines go…" she moves her hand along the walls, the sensation cold to the touch. She sits down and gently massages her hands. "Just a few more floors then I'll go see Harvey" she picks herself up and dusts herself off and gets back to the grind. She kills off the dust sprites and jellies, leading to one of them dropping a dwarf scroll. She picks it up and examines it. "When will I ever need to know the dwarf language?" She packs it up and climbs down the latter until she reaches the 85th floor, she looks around and gulps. "This has to be the darkest parts of the mines I've been in" she squints her eyes as she mines cautiously, taking notice of the sounds around her. Then sudden she feels a sharp pain shoot up her leg as she looks down, barely seeing the lava crab that she accidentally tried to mine. It scurries to her as she walks backwards quickly, then out of no where shadow brutes and shadow shamens join in and begin to attack her. The shadow shamen ready a spell to shoot at her, she quickly ducks away as she runs. Purple bruises start to form as she rummages through her pockets looking for anything she can use to defend herself. She pulls out a diamond that she mined earlier. It shimmers from what little light shines on this floor as she grins. She places it within her hands and concentrates with what energy she has left she casts a sort of blast forcefield. The noise alone scared off the monsters but without warning it sends Dorie flying, she looks at the blue-ish forcefield until she hits the cave wall hard. Dorie lets out a yelp as she feels herself hits the floor, her vision quickly go dark slipping her into unconscious.
As the day went on Harvey glanced at the clock, 2, 4, 6, 8, and finally 10pm rolls around as he's lying in bed. "Dorie said she'd come to see me after her mine trip but…" he looks out the window as his worries start to set in. "What if she… no Harvey you can't think the worst yet…" He moves his hand over his heart "and yet I have this gut wrenching feelings that… she never made it home. "He lays there as the what ifs start to swirl around in his head, he begins to sweat as he looks at the ceiling. "Why should I worry, the worst case scenario is that she never came out of the mines…" he closes his eyes and just gets up. "No I got to know if she made it home" He changes and heads out to the farm, making his way up to the door and knocks. "farmer Dorie?" He knocks again until he begins to panic, he fights with himself and decides to try the door and it surprisedly opens. He quickly looks for her bedroom and as he turns the corner to look, all there is in her bedroom is Peaches resting in the middle of it fast asleep, but no Dorie in sight. He pales as he whispers "Dorie…" he begins to make his way back out, he shuts the farm house door as he starts to fast walk but in the blink of an eye he's jogging through town and into the mountains. He notices Linus and quickly goes up to him "Linus!" The old man turns to him "hi, doctor Harvey. What brings you up the mountain on this cloudy night?" Harvey walks closer "it's Dorie, I don't think she came out of the mines.. I went to check on her and she wasn't home." Linus gets up quickly as he frowns. "That's terrible news, we gotta go get her." Linus motions for Harvey to follow but they pass the entrance. Harvey looks confused and turns to Linus. "I thought we were going to go… find Dorie." Linus looks at Harvey "oh we are but I think we should get some more help… someone who has experience within these mines." Linus goes and knocks on the cabin door, Harvey comes over and stares. "Marlon! It's Linus. We need your help please!" As minutes go by feeling like hours Marlon opens the door and yawns. "What the hell do you need? I was about to fall asleep." Harvey moves closer "Marlon, can you please help us safely go through the mines." Marlon looks at the doctor and glares a little "why should I help you doctor?" Harvey frowns "B…because Dorie is lost down there a..and we don't know if she's hurt of even worse…. Please Marlon." Harvey clamps his hands together and practically begs "won't you help us find her?" Marlon sighs as he moves back into his cabin and comes out with a few weapons. "Alright I'll help.. but not because you asked me to.. but because I respect Farmer Dorie." He points at Harvey and gives him a dagger, he moves over and hands Linus a hammer. "Alright gentlemen let's get going." They make their way into the cave, Marlon gives Harvey a glow ring and a slime ring. "Put those on" Harvey looks at them and without asking he does so. Marlon goes into the elevator. "Okay I'll check floors 55-79, Linus you check floors 45-54 and Doctor… You check floors 80-85. If one of us finds her just stay with her got it?" Linus nods and Harvey gulps as he nods. Marlin makes the first trip down, next Linus goes and finally Harvey. He stares pale as a ghost as he slowly climbs on and hits the button. The elevator slowly moves down as it passes the floors, until he finally makes it to floor 80, he looks around and begins looking for Dorie. By the time he reaches floor 85 it's 11:50pm, he may be slow but he's vigilant. He looks around and mumbles "so that's why he gave me the glow ring." Harvey looks around every corner until something sparkles from the corner of his eye, he glances over as his glow ring makes it brighter. He slowly walks over and finds the diamond, brilliant as ever. His hand moves down and picks it up dusting it off. "Where are you Dorie?" He looks around until he sees a trail of blood, the sight sends him to suspect the worst, he follows it as he moves towards the back of the cave. That's when it happens, he drops the diamond as he sees Dorie's body on the ground. His heart sinks as he tears up, quickly he makes his way over, careful not to trip on any of the rocks as he hovers over her. He moves down and sees the horrible gash on her leg. He gently moves his hand up and caresses her cheek. A single tear rushes down his face and hits the ground staining it. "Oh Dorie…." As he looks down he glances at the watch he was able to grab out of his drawer before leaving, it buzzes as it hits Midnight.
