Stepping into the arena April had to remain calm and focus while suppressing the roaring anger and heightened worry swirling in her with you and overall match. She'd be lying not saying it wasn't...wrenching to watch, a part of her wanted to jump out her seat and into the arena and take over, but she couldn't. It was against the rules and there was a high chance she'd be disqualified and...you.
For a moment she thought...was it worth it? For so long...she and guys have trained to always...always fight together..be there for support. Fighting as equals, making up for what the other lacked. Completing the puzzle. Unity. It was dishonorable to do otherwise, so to just sit back and watch you endure fighting alone...with no aid; relying solely on your own skills and preparation.
Shit! She cursed, she told you to focus in training and with the festival. You did, but...not the way you should have. If she was being a tad honest...it was your fault for what happened in your match. If you just would have...had realized this ball game was completely different than you might have...looked foolish.
There, she finally admitted, you looked foolish even when you started getting serious for a short time, your preform was lackluster at best and with heroes scouting your impression was colorless. It was a shame because April believed you would have made a positive unforgettable impression. Guess that wasn't going to happen.
Regardless, April had to focus on catching the eyes of heroes. She needed to put herself first now, and concerns for you to the back. She hoped you were doing alright and did wish she could be by your side at the moment to ensure your recovery, the instinctive urge tugged at her to just turn and walk out the arena to see. But, she quickly remembered others went in her place, allowing her to focus back on her match and opponent.
Seeing the two students before ready, Midnight standing off to the side counted down and the match began.
Not more than a second after the match started Kirby made it back, just as April demonstrated her powers by breaking off a decent size corner of the arena; she struggled a little due to the size. But managed and flung at the other. It was an amazing feat, awing gasps could be heard from the crowd and praises. April was surely catching the eyes of many.
Kirby swelled with pride, it wasn't that much a surprise considering her mother. The teen was demonstrating a finesse prowess with her quirk, her first match held a manner of suspense. Showcasing how well-tuned April was with her quirk and this match she was showing the power of it. Powerful indeed her quirk was, for those knowing and remembering her mother, who stood in the same arena as her daughter, presented the same. Though not nearly matching April's it was enough to gather attention from a few. Her lineage strong, the same for May.
Thinking of you Kirby's heart dropped a little. You his youngest, a strong quirk indeed. Coming from the same lineage, held a quirk was nothing but a double edge sword, as strong as it was equally dangerous. Control was there to a degree, thank goodness for his wife and her handle on it with you.
She did well and it still showed after all these years.
If only, he returned back to the match, she could be here now. Then maybe...he wouldn't be rippled with nerves.
With a flick of the wrist April shot amiable sized chunks of cement at her opponent, who quickly dodged and deflected some. She did it again a few more times, breaking off pieces of the arena. It was quite clear she was keeping them at a distance and for good reason. Should they get close enough they'd overwhelm her with their quirk and make quick work of her simultaneously. With strength on their side, April knew she wouldn't have advantage in that area. She couldn't really do the same tactic she used with Leo, it wouldn't work. This time around it was brute force, so keeping them back by hurling any part of the arena she could or telekinetic blast(that would exhaust her quicker) would have to work. So far it was... partially.
Anything she threw or hurled knocked them back a few feet otherwise it just melts or charred. Raph emitted ripples of heatwaves, increasing their potency beads of sweat steadily trickled from her brow. Others in the seats felt it, where ever he stepped left blacken charred footprints. Which was good in a way, otherwise he'd melt the concrete.
"She's struggling a little," Tsyu observed, "his quirk is making it harder to concentrate. That was smart to do."
Tokoyami nodded wiping the little beads of sweat away, "His quirk seems more on the forceful side, while she relies on taciturn approach. Both are equally powerful in their own category, would you not agree, Leonardo?"
"Yes, you're right." He said keenly watching, "Though I would say April is more at a disadvantage when it comes to Raph's bruteness. Not to mention his bulldozing fighting tactics, that's what this match comes down to really."
"I agree."
"The question is," Tsuyu added, "if April will do it. She hasn't tried lifting him. Which would have worked."
"But he activated his quirk right way and charged her, remember," Tokoyami brought up. "him rushing her suddenly threw her off if she didn't jump back though not before throwing him back to collect some the arena. She already became affected by his quirk."
It then clicked for Mina who laughed amazed, "Whoa! That's cool he already knew what to do. For someone who doesn't like his quirk he sure thought up a good plan. Guess he's not all hot air."
Karmanri threw a jab, "Like Bakugo? They're nearly the same."
A few laughed at the harmless comparison.
"Shut up!" He threatened, "I'm nothing like that lame half shell turtle soup! So shove or I'll make you!"
"Lighten up," Kirishima insisted hoping to calm the storm. "it's a joke. But you have to admit his quirk is pretty neat."
Bakugo scoffed flipping his nose up, "Yeah right, it's nothing but a cheap knock off. I've seen skillets with better skills, this doesn't even cover for anything. His quirk is as lame as his skills."
"Bakugo," Kirishima tried shushing him, with little success.
"What makes it worse," he continued, "he's from this supposed famous Hamato family," he air quoted, "which is supposed to be famous for their prowess in combat and apparently quirks. But I don't see anything remotely close. If you ask me it's nothing but smoke and mirrors. Lame."
Mikey speaks up offended, "Hey! For the record, no one asked you! And second don't be dissing my family, dude."
Bakugo shot him a heated look, "Or what? Huh? Your quirk is as stupid as the rest of your family's. Nerd Shell over there," he gestured to Donnie, who sunk a little in his seat. "got his shell handed to him. His quirk isn't even meant for the hero course." Donnie knew that was true yet it still stung, "and you," he remained on Mikey, "is outright laughable, you're just barely above Nerd Shell."
"Not cool, dude! Leo!" Mikey turned to his brother, who kept his focus on the match and did his best to block out the spilling ignorance and Mikey's plead to defend their family.
"Ignore it," he said stiffly. "it's not worth engaging."
Hearing his undertone jab, Bakugo turned his attention on Leo, "You're the worst of them." Leo's shoulders constricted quietly, "losing in the first round. What well-known family shows lame skills? I could beat you and brothers and your dad with one hand tied behind my back."
"Dude," Kirishima muttered shaking his head. Quickly apologized. "Sorry, he didn't mean it. Your family it's pretty neat. He's just pumped for the fights. No harm done."
Momo shook her disapprovingly at Bakugo, turned concernly to Leo. He hadn't shown any reaction she could see, his face was reserved. Even his eyes, that remained astute to the match. No flicker of anger or frustration, she couldn't quite get a read on him no matter how hard she carefully observed. Feeling her eyes Leo felt his temperature rise he was sure his ears were steaming. He hoped she hadn't noticed. Tempted to slap the side of his face a few times to snap out of it and focus solely on the match, he resisted and used every part of him to keep his mind on April and Raph.
Right now April narrowly dodges Raph's driven fist to her stomach, sidestepping she barely missed getting her side grazed by it. His heat was intense she used her telekinesis to push herself back, wiping off the sweat from her brow. Just a moment ago she thought she had Raph, to be utterly wrong. His heatwaves managed to penetrate her defense, removing her focus giving control. He was adapting with his quirk faster than she thought, she believed she had that against him and his brothers. Especially Raph, she hadn't expected him to do...this! He rushed her again, she moved just in time diving and tumbling to the ground. Quickly she flipped up and thrusted a hand forward, pushing Raph back a few feet. He corrected himself mid-air and regained his stance. Stunned for a moment, it turned to fiery amusement on his face. She knew that look, seeing it many times during sparing practice. He was coming full force.
Her heart froze for a moment, she had to think fast. Trying as she could to meet his eyes and scan his mind, the heat stole her concentration. Wiping the sweat from her brow again, he was increasing it. She could tell. The ground under his feet was beginning to melt, even Midnight stood back a bit. Splinter watched his son calmly. Looking from son to student, struggle was slowly appearing on April. Her movements where becoming sloth, standing was starting to become a struggle he noticed. Raph turned this around. It surprised him, he thought his son wouldn't even bother to engage in this. But then again, he knew his son well. Despite his hot-headedness and refusal to adapt or accept, he loved his family and his father to bring any sort of disgrace. He'd give his all.
Passion.
Splinter described it. A word Raph disliked, calming it was rage. Smiling proudly to himself, Splinter thanked his son.
Kicked in the side, April did her best to hold the surging pain falling to the ground. The sound of her clothes burning and printing of heat seeping to her skin, picked herself up, reusing to hold her side quickly looked to the grass held a hand out and with her hand outlined in blue created a crack and rumble; lifted a decent size chunk of earth from the ground, threw it Raph. He leaped over, used it vault off, and shot a frontal kick. Blocking wouldn't work, April wiped the sweat off again ran and dove under his kick. Avoiding it.
Uraraka gasped, quickly calmed down. Smiled triumphantly. Idia gave a nod. Standing April couldn't lose, she had to get to the next round. She just had too. That was her desire, Raph wasn't making this easy. But she was making it, her heart racing and rise of dehydration weighed her down. She needed to focus...somehow. She needed to get to the round, she had too! She was the one with more skill using her quirk than Raph and his brothers. She was strong with it. She was clever enough. She made up for what she lacked with her quirk. This...this was nothing! She wouldn't do down like this! She was going to win! She would! Closing her eyes for a moment, she couldn't stay like this for too long, shuffling through her mind recalling all previous matches earlier...one stood out. Smirking, she knew what to do and thanked her new brown hair friend.
Ignoring her side, pushed off dodging Raph's punch it hit the arena floor. Cracking it a little, leaving small pieces behind. Stopping she waited for him to come after her again, he did, this time with a heel chop. She dodged. Watched his attack crack the floor again, leaving behind small pebbles and scotch mark. She did that few a more times, the last time she allowed herself to get hit. It hurt, but she hid it skidding a few feet back, Raph stood watching to see if she was going to fall. Seeing she wasn't, increased the heat before him, April smirked to herself and dropped to a knee, hid her face behind her now loosen hair; her hands give a faint blue outline, the pebbles, and chunks rise and slowly began moving around the Raph as he walked closer. Feeling the pressuring heat, April kept her focus under it. Stood, struggling, Raph stopped for a moment noticing her smirk as did everyone else. Lost for a moment he stood flabbergasted when it clicked, he charged her...a little too late.
Swaying one hand April directed the collection of pebbles and chunks like a strong wave, knocked Raph to the side. Swaying her other hand to counter, directed the rest of the pebbles and chunks like a wave, knocked Raph down before he could get up. Angered, he increased the heat, seeing this, April crossed her hands in an X before her crossing the two waves of pebbles chunks together capturing Raph in a sort of sphere of arena floor debris. With a slight flick of the wrist and mighty shout pushed the sphere back with all her strength across the floor and out the arena.
