By the time April returned from Recovery Girl to her seat with Urakara and Tsuyu, your rematch started against Jun. And the crowd was in an affable uproar.
She saw why and it harden her stomach with worry. You stood planted on the arena floor, lite up hair glowing and all, with a single hand, thrust forward, firing a stream of constructed energy at Jun, who by all accounts mirrored the attack using two. That wasn't what harden her stomach; it was the expressionless your face had. Showing no ounce of you that she could find. Your eyes were cold and….calm merciless anger. That could make anyone's blood run cold; April felt the pieces of ice forming in her's. Her lip trembled, and breath hitched tightly; she nearly choked if not for Tsyu and Ochako, placing a comforting hand on her back, helping her breathe again and minimize her trembling.
From the corner of his eyes, Izuku spotted her; he kept his mouth closed, noticing her composure. He felt the same. Turning back to you, a part of him told him to cheer…but the other part couldn't bring himself to do it. Unlike the others, especially from class 2-B, someone was rather cheery over there. It was just like last time…Izuku could see it, and it was no wonder worry's cold touch chilled him. Would you do it again? What was triggering this….this side of you? Could it be Jun? That seemed like the right conclusion….except this time….he didn't teach you or tried to target the class. He just stepped onto the arena, and the moment Midnight said one, he just simply…attacked. Attacks you evaded and countered, with strikes like a viper. Jun managed to avoid them and keep his distance.
Not once did he lock eyes with Izuku, which was good….still….
It was rather clear who the superior one was between you and Jun. The beam you were firing seems effortless…while Jun seems to be struggling. Or maybe he was holding back…Izuku couldn't tell, but one thing he could be Jun seemed…pissed. By the way, his brows knotted tightly. Shinso noticed this on the boy, which was odd. He leaned in, forgetting about the music playing in his ear. Just what was going on? Did something happen? Did something change from the night before? Jun did come out a few seconds after you, and the quick crestfallen look on his face vanished when he came out.
"Jun's losing."
Shinso overheard a student whisper.
"Yeah. What happened? The last match he good…now…."
"Well, I'm not surprised. Guys, nothing but talk."
"Yeah."
Words surfaced on Shinso's lips, ready to fire back, but he kept them at bay. Knowing Jun wouldn't want it, and most importantly, their words were wrong.
Remaining rooted firmly, Jun kept up his attack but felt his arms starting to tremble…while yours showed no caving. It came effortlessly to you just like before, and this fueled him. His mind beating itself up as to how you managed to remain….like this.
Shit!
He lost concentration for a moment, slipping his attack for a millisecond. An opening you noticed and took advantage of and hurl a ball of energy with your other hand. No one saw that coming; a few gasped at the speed and fluidity. Jun was struck. The force knocked him back; he barely had time to catch his breath when a shadow appeared above him. Wide grey silver eyes shoot up in fear; you had leaped up in the air with your leg outstretched and plunge your heel down.
That spot released a mild shockwave and cloud of dust from the attack. Midnight had to wave some of the dust away but managed to keep her sharp eyes on the result as it settled. Some in the seats leaned forward on edge, waiting to see what happened….a few hearts dropped, and blood ran cold. There were even a few gasps. The spot was cratered and cracked. It wasn't decimated but almost looked like it. You missed, slowly get up and shake your heel off like nothing. Sensing something…sensing him turn around with eyes glowing and brows knotted. Jun felt his blood freeze from your glare and quickly masked it; that didn't stop his beating heart. He stood on the other side, holding his side where your orb struck, grinning his teeth in anger.
Your eyes fall to his…weak point and seem to assess. You flicked, you found it, and rush him, leaving a trail of energy behind. Pulling an arm back, coat it completely in energy and shape it flat and sharp stab it forward. Thinking quickly, Jun slams his hand down on the floor, pumping in energy in it, sprouting sharp spear constructs. They came up, and you managed to dodge them, push off some, and only once with your coated spear. Shattering it. Seeing this, Jun pumped more energy, increasing the speed.
It did little; his lack of contraction and pressuring fear clouded his thoughts. You flew through them and emerged. With your target in sight, thrust your coated arm at him for the final blow. It was blocked, to everyone's shock, even you. A smug smirk slashed on Jun, his arm held up and coated just like yours, blocking your attack and hold his own against your strength even if the leg trembled slightly.
"No way!" Kamari blinked with a gaping mouth. "He….woah…"
Leo was surprised himself too, his brothers as well. Mikey stood from his seat just as Leo. Raph finally gave his full attention, and Donnie…Donnie just…stared. Tsyu and Ochaho tighten their comfort on April's shoulder; she was taking it….unwell. Apart from her wanted to shout, but something held it down. Instead, she broke away and raced where Izuku and Iida stood. Squeezing between them both, her hands gripped the metal bar turning her knuckles hot white.
Mashiro stood with a tight fist, and a hard glare at Jun flickered to worry for you. That uneasy feeling came back again.
From where he stood, Endeavor was…mildly impressed. His eyes remained on you, waiting for the next choice you'd make. If his mare was all it was supposed to be, he wanted to see money well spent, unaware of watching eyes.
"Come on, don't tell me that's all," Jun mocked, pushing back. He didn't throw you far, but your moment of shock allowed him a few feet.
He stood straight and regal, and with his other arm, coated it in energy (which flickered he nearing his limit) formed what looked like the same…flower shield you made prior. Just in time, too, you sprung up and thrust your energy blade at him. He blocked it with his shield and pushed you back.
"Well! Come on!" He taunted, banging his blade on the shield. "Is that all you got! Well? Let's game then!"
Holding his shield up, he rushed you. He jabbed and thrust his weapon at you; luckily, you managed to dodge and block a few strikes while being mindful of your footing. He had you on the defense, a thrilling development. His strikes were ridged and filled with fury. There was no grace or fluidity. He just rushed you without a second thought. Gleefully enjoying it. Bending back, you managed to dodge his attack and finding an opening slam, a kick in the torso sending him back.
Hitting his fresh wound, Jun had the air knocked from him. He felt the bruise deepen and his blood boil. Laid on the floor, he held his side. He desired….you to come over in pain and…take the pain away with your soft glow touch.
Seeing him as he was, you raise your other hand and concentrate energy into the palm of your hand, ready to end…this.
"She…she can't," April quietly said, but it was heard. Izuku and Iida exchange confused and worried glances.
The energy swelled the enlarging orb forming in the palm of your hand; it was three times the size and growing. Needing further space, you hoover off the floor a few inches, rising higher and higher. Hold your hand over your head, your skin began changing, and the markings came back. Jun weakly began getting up, only to fall back down.
He was done.
With the bit of energy, he had locked his tired and defeated eyes with yours and something unlatched in you. You weren't sure what it was….but your heart…wept for some reason and forceful headache hit you, flashing images….again of that little boy weeping begging you to stop. Slowly your arm lowers to your side, and you hear…a voice—the same shouting at you from your last match to stop.
Descending slowly back down, you hold onto the voice and pull yourself out and back to your senses. Seeing clearly, turn to the Jumbotron and stricken with how you looked; glowing eyes, the markings…everything…hear kind voice whisper in your ear and the small breeze that felt like a gentle kiss. Blinking slowly, inhale, see a kind woman with blonde…with similar features as April smiling proudly at you. You weren't sure why…but she felt so familiar…safe.
"What's she doing?" Mineta asked the question with much thought. "Just a minute ago she was…about to beam him and now….are American's this confusing?"
Tokoyami crossed his arms, observing you, a bit perplexed himself, to suddenly be astonished. "What…?"
Midnight was ready to tear some of her costumes, and Cementose ready to intervene; you had begun walking to Jun and drop to your knees. He growled, glaring at you; you understood and continued. Holding a hand out, hoover it over him and pull up what energy you had left, release a soft glow cocoon around him.
"Repair," you whisper, closing your eyes.
Carefully watching Midnight, I realized what you were doing and began counting down. By the time she ten fell from her lips, you were done. Jun sat up, healed. No injuries. Nothing. You, on the other hand, weren't in the best shape. Your skin was discolored, and the markings nearly covering your skin. Opening your eyes, now beyond exhaustion but back to normal, see his health restored and stand. Staggering like a baby deer, holding your side as Jun had done. It was clear to everyone what just happened. Your knees wobbled with the idea of a single step, buckle, and your body collapsed.
"May!" Izuku and others shouted.
Diving, a hand grabs you, and an arm holds you. Catching you, being careful not to flame your injuries.
"Valiant," Midnight praised softly, with a smirk a pride. "indeed."
