Kirby O'Neil wondered if Intermission normally went this length for the Sports Festival. Checking his watch it was going on fifteen minutes and now inching to twenty. He wondered if the next match might be delayed, from his recollection it should be the semi-final round and the two opponents: Tenya vs Shoto. Followed by Katsuki Bakugo vs. Fumikage Tokoyami and Shouto, then April vs—
"Mr. O'Neil," came a smooth gruff voice, "could you come with me please?"
Kirby was nearly startled finding the hero and teacher Ectoplasm standing at his side. Despite all the interesting individuals around him, Kirby had yet to accommodate himself with it yet. His late wife wasn't lying.
"Yes. Of course," Kirby respectfully obliged and stood up. "Is something wrong?"
"I'm not at liberty to say. Please this way, sir."
With little information to go off, Kirby felt a knot in his stomach and without question followed the hero. Splinter, sitting in his seat noticed the two leaving and instantly became concerned. Across where his sons and April sat they all seemed fine, but it was clear you hadn't returned, also the way two students ran off in the direction you went a half an hour ago conforming Splinter's suspicions.
"In here," Ectoplasm directed Kirby stopping in front of the closed door to Nezu's office.
The hero gave two knocks and left. Leaving Kirby to wait. After a few seconds, All Might open the door followed by Nezu's voice.
"Mr. O'Neil please come in!"
Kirby respectfully walked in and greeted them both. All Might led him to the couch where Nezu sat across in the chair on the other side of the coffee table which had three cups of prepared tea, a plate of sweet crackers, and a kettle of brewed tea for refills. Kirby took a seat, despite the friendly welcome and reassuring airs he sensed something that rose concern in his eyes. Nezu noticed it immediately.
"Mr. O'Neil, tea?" Nezu offered holding up a cup, "Before we begin."
Kirby took the cup not wanting to be rude, All Might came and sat down next to Kirby holding a few folders, which Kirby noticed.
"What's this all about?" Kirby asked, "Are my daughters alright?"
A quick silence filled the room.
"I assure you Mr. O'Neil your daughters are fine," Nezu prompted with a reassuring smile. "There is nothing to concern yourself with."
Kirby sighed with ease, "That's good. Then what's this all about? The next matches will be starting and April is-"
Nezu held up a paw politely stopping him. "Excuse me, I don't mean to interrupt you but as of right now April won't be moving forward to the next match."
Kirby's brow rose in shock, "Why? What about May?"
"She's currently still recovering from the previous match. Recovery Girl has stated that May isn't ready to continue the last match left her on the depleted side."
Kirby shot up, accidentally knocking his knee on the table.
"Is she okay? Why was I taken there first!?" He shouted nearly slamming the cup down.
Nezu remained calm and spoke assuringly, "You need not worry Mr. O'Neil, your daughter is doing fine. Recovery Girl has provided an update. May is stable and recovering well as we speak. This is why, as our students here at UA our students are our top priority, her next match will be canceled. By extension so will April's."
Kirby calmed down hearing that and settled himself back on the couch. But he couldn't shake the feeling there was more weight to this, all of this. His eyes kept glancing at the folders All Might held. The hero noticed and Nezu too, and with a nod from the principal All Might laid the folders on the table before Kirby.
"What are these," Kirby questioned peering at the names on the tab of the folders.
All Might looked at Nezu waiting for him to speak. Nezu took a moment to form his thoughts and response before answering, "Mr. O'Neil," his voice became serious, "there is no point in beating around the bush. It has come to our attention that your daughters might need to be moved to new residences."
Kirby looked at him brows furrowed with concern, Nezu continued, "To put it simply since the incident at the training grounds, I am grateful all our students came out unscathed, however considering the dangers that unfolded I thought it best for your daughters to relocate."
"Relocate? Together?"
"Yes. And no. Separate."
Kirby was taken aback, his daughters separately living, that wasn't the agreement. They were supposed to remain together, though he heard about the situation at the training grounds from the news and his daughters, especially his youngest. Everything was fine. So he thought nothing of it, but now, now that didn't seem to be the case. But he couldn't shake this feeling there was something more, but Nezu's calm demeanor said otherwise. Kirby lowered his eyes back to the folders looking at the names once more, these were perhaps families the school or Nezu were considering to house his daughters. He wasn't sure if any of them were heroes. He opened them to get a better understanding.
Nezu and All Might remained quiet allowing Kirby the time he needed to read over each file. Kirby examined the files with the utmost care, reading over them several times. Until he seemed satisfied, closed, and set them back down composedly.
"I want to express, first and foremost," Kirby said firmly, in a deep, serious tone, lifting his eyes to Nezu, "I don't like this. However if it will keep my daughters safe then," his tone began softening with emotion, "and my late wife held high regards of UA's reputation. I trust your judgment in keeping my daughters safe. So with my consent, they can live with another family."
All Might was slightly surprised how well Kirby took it, but respected it and gave a nod. "You have my word, Mr. O'Neil your daughters will remain safe with the families."
Kirby turned to the hero and gave a nod of thanks, Nezu spoke turning their attention, "Yes, thank you, Mr. O'Neil. I know this was not easy for you. But, the families before you are and I assure you respectable and have agreed. I'm sure you were wondering why none were heroes, I felt it best they not be. Many would overlook a hero's family and considering your youngest and her lineage it would be best."
"I agree," Kirby solemnly reflected, thinking of you. Your smile popped into his mind setting a soft smile across his lips. "I wouldn't want that for her."
Nezu closed for a moment, thinking about your last match, worry rose in his mind, from the shield you produced. "Neither do we."
"Will my daughters be told or should I tell them?" Kirby asked, Nezu quickly returned to the matter at hand, "I'm not sure how they'll and will be able to meet these families?"
Nezu's pleasant smile returned, returning the atmosphere back to a cordial one, "We or I will inform your daughters and yes you will be able to meet the families. Today actually, I've asked for them to come. Your daughters will meet them too, as a matter of fact since your daughters' match is canceled all three of you will be able to meet them during that time."
"Oh, I wasn't expecting it so soon, but yes," Kibry smiled pleased to hear, he straightened his posture, "what time will they be here?"
Nezu glanced quickly at his watch and hopped out of his seat, "Now. This way Mr. O'Neil. All Might you best hurry back I'll take it from here. Come, Mr. O'Neil, this way."
Holding out an open paw, towards the door Nezu waited for Kirby to come to go and meet the families.
