The next match started, finally, April could hear the crowd and arena rand out in an uproar in the distance as she followed Snipe out of the stadium to the main building. She didn't understand two things, why she had to leave(though Snipe informed her) and second why her match was canceled. Snipe didn't provide her with any information, though she could use her quirk to find out if he was facing her and they had eye contact.
They entered the main building, walked through the front to the elevator, and got in. Snipe pressed a button and stood right next to her. April wasn't able to see the floor he chose but it wasn't the one for her class. They stood in silence until the elevator stopped and the doors opened.
"This way," Snipe said and walked out.
April followed and found herself in an unfamiliar hallway. There weren't any lockers, or classroom numbers, or anything. Just a long stretched hall that had two doors. One with wooden double doors, and the other a single door at the far end of the hall. Snipe walked past the double doors and as they got closer April could hear others talking. They were unfamiliar to her, but one she did recognize was her dad's.
"-if by any means you need any assistance for her please don't hesitate to reach out."
A different voice, friendly and kind responded, "Of course. Thank you. I promise to make sure she stays on top of her work. Midoriya is going to be glad she's staying with us. He told me about your daughter."
"She told me about your son too. Actually, I met him earlier today. What a fine young man. He's going to make a great hero."
"Thank you"
"Dad? What are you doing here?" April asked entering the room, her eyes look around trying to assess what she saw.
Her father was in this room sitting across from three people. One was a middle-aged woman with green eyes and hair like Izuku but darker and straighter, and a kind face. She smiled politely at April. April quickly knew this was Izuku's mom. The other two April could see they were married, by the rings on their fingers. Both were middle-aged and seemed middle-aged. The woman with short spiky ash blonde hair and red eyes had a youthful confident appearance. Her husband had a mild manner appearance; brown eyes, his short spiky brown hair, a short mustache, and thin glasses. They gave April an acknowledging wave.
Nezu, now standing from his seat at the center chair between the parents welcomes her, "April, welcome. Thank you, Snipe," he dismissed the hero and holds out a paw for her to sit.
Hesitantly April takes the spot by her father and right across from Izuku's mom. She flashes him a tentative smile and asks the question brimming inside her.
"What's going on?"
Her father and the other adults exchange solemn looks among themselves, before looking at Nezu. April looked and noticed the principal holding a folder filled with documents.
Nexu noticed her inquiring and happily addressed it, "No sense in beating around the bush. April due to UA remaining on high alert due to the incident at the training grounds, you and your sister have been relocated to live with an assigned family."
"What?"
"I know this all might seem confusing but I assure you, your father has agreed. Of course, this is only temporary until your education here at UA is completed."
April looked to her dad, "Dad?"
Kirby reached over a hand a gently patted the top of April's hand.
"It's only temporary. You and May can still meet up at school."
His words weren't assuring, and the pleasantries everyone presented April had a sense beneath the surface, there was a palpable sense that there was something else. It then harbored on her, her dad included you and she realized you weren't present.
"Wait? Where's May?" She looked around, focusing a moment on the door expecting you to walk through.
After a few seconds and no sign of you, she felt her stomach suddenly sink. It then dawned on her, after the last match you hadn't returned and Izuku even asked her about it. Feeling a clenching in her chest, April couldn't stop her eyes from momentarily dropping to the floor.
"Set him here," Recovery Girl said calmly, her voice though sounded muffled to you woke.
A heaviness slowly lifted off your eyelids and your chest. A sense of rejuvenation came over you and after a few minutes of laying down, you find the strength and sit up. Rubbing your eyes and with little yawn assert your surroundings. Though your vision was a tad blurry you could tell it was Recovery Girl's room. You didn't sense or hear her, you did notice there was somebody on the bed next to you.
They seemed unconscious but alright, you let out another little yawn and get off your bed. You grab the jacket of the tracksuit that covered you and used it on the person next to you. Since they didn't have theirs and follow it by giving them a light peck. You realized their temple was….cold.
By the time Recovery Girl returns she finds you gone. Just as she was about to make a call her other patient began waking up.
Another yawn, longer this time and the last, escapes you as you walked through the arena halls. Once it was pushed out you completely felt refreshed, your sight had finally focused, take a moment and glance around. You were walking in the halls of the arena, you could hear the echoes of the crowd overhead. There must be a match happening right now. You wondered who it might be.
"Oh! That is right, my match should be starting relatively soon," you remembered, and happily hurried to class 1-A seating.
In his seat, Izuku, the final match ended with Bakugo as the victor, wasn't sure why but something itched at him. Looking to his side at the empty seat that was yours and a sensation came over him that made him rise from his spot.
"Hey where are you going, All Mights about to give out metals," Ochaco asked watching him leave.
Izuku stopped and turned to her, "I'll be back," he smiled back assuringly thumbing over his shoulder, "just want to check something out."
With that, he hurried up the steps and into the halls, unaware someone got up from their seat and followed him. As Izuku walked down the hall, someone called out to him.
"Midoriya!"
It was Mashirao. Izuku stopped and turned around surprised at him and waited for him to walk over. Instantly Izuku noticed the serious concern on his classmate's face.
"Where are you going?" Mashirao asked with a direct tone.
Izuku was surprised by its sharpness but answered to the best of his abilities, "I'm not sure really," he shrugged, "I just needed to go and check on something."
Mashirao's eyes remained steady on Izuku and bluntly said, "Where you going to see about May? I saw you glance at her spot." His tone softened a bit, and Izuku nodded.
A shared worry washed over both of them, "She's been gone for a long time," Izuku said barely above a whisper, "not to mention her and April's match got canceled."
Mashirao nodded agreeing and frowned slightly, deep in thought, adding, "Yeah, and Snipe came to get April. I wonder what that's all about."
"Yeah, you're right," Izuku agreed worry heavily covering his words and exposed on his face. That itching feeling came back, stronger than time, Mashirao noticed and before he could ask one of their teachers came down the hall.
It was Snipe, Izuku felt an uneasiness come over him. He felt his muscles suddenly tense as Snipe walked over to them.
Izuku tried to find the words but they didn't come. Snipe looked at Mashirao and gave an acknowledging nod, then focused on Izuku, "Come with me please."
It sounded more like a command than obligation, knowing better Izuku nodded and followed the hero. Mashirao stayed behind watching carefully and returned back to his seat once the two were out of his sight.
The walk was quiet, Izuku still couldn't shake his heaviness, was it the way Snipe walked with a quiet intensity? He wasn't sure, he tried opening his mouth to speak only to close it. Izuku found Snipe leading him out from the arena to the main building. Before Izuku knew it, despite the drooling walk, he found himself walking down a long empty hall, passing the principal's room and into another.
The moment he stepped in he was shocked to see, his mom!
"Mom!" Izuku gasped wide-eyed, that wasn't all he saw. Bakugo's parents were there and April with her dad and Nezu.
Questions flooded Izuku's mind that he was about pour out when Nezu held up a paw stopping him, "All your questions will be answered. We're just waiting on one more."
Izuku looked on confused, "One more?" It then dawned on him, he looked at April then at her father, and back to her. "May!" He began looking around the room for you, "Where is she?"
Seconds after he asked the question, he heard the familiar, gruff, and moody voice of Aizawa, scolding someone, "In here and stop moving or I tighten it more."
Aizawa walked into the room, he was holding a part of his scarf and tugged it bringing you into the room. You were wrapped in it almost from head to toe with a frightful look on directed at Aizawa that almost boarded on despondent. Everyone stared in disbelief at the sight. Bakugo's mother broke it with a small chuckle.
Kirby finally broke from the sight and cleared his throat, Aizawa turned to him, "She left the infirmary. Went in the opposite direction of where she was supposed to go, made her way outside to the vendors, and refused to come. So here we are."
"Ah, yes. Well...okay," Kirby accepted straightening his jacket.
Nezu took control over the room, "Eraser Head if you could, please. So we can get started."
Just as Aizawa was about to let you go, you saw Izuku and became elated. Though your mouth was wrapped, your energy and infectious delight didn't stop you from bouncing up and down and lunging at him. Aizawa yanked you back rather harshly.
"Cut it out!" he warned sharply, giving you a cutting look.
You instantly shuttered under it and nodded agreeing. He shot you another warning look before releasing you. You could finally breathe properly again, after taking in a few breaths you remained calm for a second.
"Izuku-kun!" you pounced on him and entangled him in an iron hug, lifting him off the ground, unaware you activated your quirk and began emitting a luminous light around you. "Izuku-kun! I have missed you! Are you alright? Can we go get raman after this? You said we would! Oh, there is much I would like to inform you on!"
Bakugo's mom laughed at the sight and exchanged a look with her husband. Izuku's mom was surprised for a moment but warmly looked on, she couldn't help but chuckle a bit. Aizawa let out a long, exasperated sigh, April and her father smiled at one another. Izuku felt his bones beginning to scream with pain and felt a scream ready to push out. But he was too relieved to see you alright to even care and smiled. After another minute, and a grunt from Aizawa, you let Izuku go and latched onto his arm. He didn't mind.
"May," April called getting your attention, you look in her direction and see her sitting with Kirby.
You lit up again and remaining by Izuku waved furiously at him, "Father! Have you spoken with Izuku yet? He was given to April and me since our arrival at school. He has been much help, have you, not Izuku?" You turn to him smiling.
Izuku gave a nod to you and one to Kirby, "Hello again, sir. It's nice to see you." He waved.
"You too. Thank you young man for helping my daughters," Kirby expressed his gratitude. "It's good to know they're in good and respectable hands."
A sense of pride rose in Izuku from his words. You squeezed his arm a bit more pleased by Kirby's words. Nezu again took control of the room.
"My, my how I do enjoy seeing our students full of spirit. Now that everyone is present we can begin."
With that Aizawa shut the door and what Nezu told you at first confused you, but once it was explained further and you understood, it didn't stop the deep ache spread through your chest and the simmering anger.
