Two days has passed since the Sports Festival and despite the sheer exhaustion rippling through, it was back to the everyday. Well for most households anyway. It was raining today, not exactly a way to start after such a big change and what was to come. Still, it didn't damper Inko Midoriya's spirits as she finished setting the table for breakfast. Normally she'd set for two but now there were three. The guest they were housing had her dishes set next to Izuku, Inko felt it only made sense considering their friendly terms and familiarity. Inko was rather surprised at how simply she adjusted when she arrived home with her and Izuku. Due to the short notice, however, Inko wasn't able to get her room ready, it was almost there it just needed some TLC. Inko told herself while the two teens were at school she'd take some time and order a few things that will hopefully come by this week to at least set the room up.
Inko placed the last dish of food on the table and took a minute to look over the meal. She didn't want to linger too long otherwise the two teens might miss the train and possibly be late to school. She turns around and calls them for breakfast.
You always loved the rain, you weren't sure why. One thing was sure back in the States when it did, you enjoyed the most when walking through it with April. Well, you mostly lept into puddles or dancing in the rain. April wasn't too far behind watching you carefully. She had a small content smile while you had a beaming one. Despite the coldness of the weather, it never felt cold with April around.
Now, however, with it raining in Japan, you felt the shower's chill for the first time. You actually had to bundle up, you actually had to wear a scarf and walk under your umbrella alone to...school. Well, you weren't technically alone, you were walking with someone...but that individual wasn't keen on sharing even three with you and he made it relatively clear the moment you came to his family's house. After what Principal Nezu told you that you and April would be living in separate homes with separate families, you felt a sinking in you. Though you took it with grace and respect you couldn't deny you weren't pleased with this and though you had questions you kept them locked up. Nezu answered most of your unspoken one, especially the one that involved having outside contact with April off school grounds, say calling her...Nezu said it best not to for the time being. But you and April could talk till your heart's content on school grounds, he would even set up some extra time for you both to do so, though he hadn't figured out a time just then.
Kirby seemed fine with this, you noticed, he had no obligations. So when he left you put on a brave face and smile and upon his wishes went with this new family. The family...was welcoming and kind, a streak contrast to their son, until you saw how he slightly mirrored his mom's personality. That came out when she told him that you would be sharing his room until yours was ready. Something he furiously objected to, especially when you were given his bed until your room was ready. His father quickly held you back to keep you out of their range. You weren't used to such a family dynamic with parent and child.
In all accounts, it was...alright. But sleeping wasn't, which was something you needed to get down fast otherwise...Bakugo would blast you out of bed. The thought sent a fearful shiver down your spine because you knew he meant it.
You were just a block away from UA, students quickly hurried inside to get out of the rain. You stop for a moment at the entrance and scan the faces of others for April. Bakugo was already inside, he didn't bother to look back but stopped for a moment then proceeded. You didn't see any sign of April, and your heart sank. You thought she'd be here by now, disappointed you continue when a hand suddenly shoves you from behind onto the ground. You didn't see who it was and they continue on their way. Not even having the kindness to throw back an apology, or stop to help you up. You lost your umbrella a few feet away, the rain began soaking your clothes. You didn't want to become drenched, so you hurry and get up, and just as you reach for your umbrella a car speeds by, and hits a puddle shooting water up that lands on you.
You didn't move, not even when a few students hurried by. Thy cast confused looks at you, but you ignored them and vacantly watched your umbrella blow away as the rain poured on you. All you could think was how cold the rain was.
"Hey, you okay?" said a familiar enthusiastic voice that held concern.
You look up and the first thing you see is spiky red hair, followed by concerned red eyes looking at you with a mixture of empathy and care, and a downturn smile. It was that spiky red hair guy with the Hardening quirk from class, he stood by you holding an open umbrella over you, and your eyes widen in surprise. Your stomach churned as a wave of embarrassment came over you, exposed on your cheeks that turned the same color as his hair. It was then you realized why he was standing there and your whole situation. You shot up and forgot the ground was wet slipped and lost your balance, and nearly fall into the street if Kirishima hadn't shot out a hand, catching you by your wrist and snatching you back. You come back and from the force he used, slam into him causing you both to fall and splash onto the ground.
He lost his umbrella too.
"Honestly, it's okay," Kirishima chuckled trying to reassure you as he buttoned up his new dry shirt behind the pulled curtains.
You didn't respond, you were finishing buttoning up your shirt to Recovery Girl's office restroom. After what happened outside in the rain, you and Kirishima were drenched from head to toe. When you both walked onto campus a facility member saw what happened and quickly took you both to Recovery Girl. She provided you two with new uniforms and instructed you to change behind the thick curtains. The whole time he kept trying to assure you it was alright, trying to throw out jokes to laugh it away. But you couldn't really muster up any humor, not with the churning feeling within your stomach. How ashamed you felt...for causing such a sight.
On top of that, he lost his umbrella and if it was to remain raining today he would be without one. Your fingers stop buttoning, Kirishima kept talking light-heartedly. When he stopped for a moment you spoke.
"My apologizes," you mutter, gripping the ends of your skirt. "I shall repay you for the loss of your umbrella. Please do not worry."
Kirishima remained silent and finished the last button. You finished as well, and with the churning in your stomach now tightening even more, as you readied yourself to face him, pull the curtain back just as he did. Your eyes dull with regrate shamefully look to the floor. Recovery Girl heard the curtains drawn and noticed the silence looked up from her desk over at you and him. And what unfolded spread a smile across her face, Kirishima with his big, heartful smile said something to you that lifted your eyes from the floor to him. When your eyes meet his eyes, Recovery Girl saw Kirishima's smile, still wide, soften a bit along with his eyes that smiled back at you. He said something else and you turned away chuckling a bit. Recovery Girl turned back around keeping her smile on.
"Thank you," you tell Recovery Girl in your normal cheerful voice as you and Kirishima get ready to leave.
"You're welcome," she said looking at you and Kirishima, "now let's try to stay dry alright?"
You and Kirishima exchange a lighthearted look, smile, and promise. You give her a wave and leave with him. It didn't take long for you and Kirishima to make it to 1-A, when you entered the whole class was in a positive uproar about the festival, you saw Leo and his brothers had arrived. Donnie had a book open, Ralph was slouched in his chair with his usual annoyed face on, Mikey was talking with Sero the two of them laughing, and Leo was engaged in a conversation with Momo. You noticed April and Izuku hadn't arrived, your heart sank a bit.
"Come on let's sit down," Kirishima said thumbing to the seats.
You nod and follow him and take your seat. The moment you did Toru noticed something about you and pointed it out.
"May, you're wearing your hair down today?" she said amazed.
You look at her a bit confused, "Excuse me?"
She points to her head, but you couldn't make out the gesture. Mina says it pointing to her own hair, "You normally have it up in a ponytail with that flower clip in it. Trying a new look. I like it! After the performance you put on at the Festival, your look works!"
"But is not up," you say uncertainly and move your hands up to your hair, feel around, and realize it was down and the clip was gone. You sprung from your seat your heart pounded in your chest like a drum, the rapid beats reverberating through your entire body.
You couldn't have lost it...you put it in this morning. Still touching your hair, your mind raced trying to figure out what might have happened, replaying everything...everything. The others see your panic and try to calm you down, Kirishima got up to try.
"Hey, it's okay. We'll find it," he said softly reassuringly.
You stopped for a moment from his words and turn to him, he gave you a calming smile. It worked for about a minute, and your desire to retrieve the hairpiece overrode his attempt. You rush out of class, Mashirao stopped the conversation he was having for a moment, and before he could call out to you, you were gone. Bakugo in his seat paid ignored you. Your quirk activates and you switch from running to flying through the halls, students moved out of the way avoiding you, as you leave a trail of golden light behind that faded away. Within a minute you were back at the entrance of UA and without thinking fly outside and students coming in quickly move out of the way. One student, who just stepped aside, stopped and watched you stop outside the gates on the sidewalk. You frantically began searching for the hairpiece as you were certain it was here, it was the only logical place it be. There was no sign of it. When you took just a few steps both ways, there was no sign of it at all.
Your heart just dropped. You lost it.
You wanted to crumble away. From where they stood heterochromia eyes observed you as you became re-soaked again from the rain. They realized this and without a second thought began walking over to you with their umbrella out, just as they were halfway there another umbrella covered you. They stopped seeing this and turned back around to head to class.
"You're that American Girl, right?" said a timid yet cheerful voice. "What are you doing standing in the rain?"
You turn to the voice and find a girl your age, with a short equine muzzle and a round face that was framed by thick, long wavy blonde hair reaching her back with shorter bangs hanging down her forehead. Her large and round blue eyes smiled at you. The second friendly face you had since coming to school. What stood out the most for you was the two ltr-shaped horns on her head and hooved feet. You weren't taken aback by her appearance, but your eyes wandered up the umbrella.
She repeated her question, "You're that American Girl, right?"
"Yes," you answered.
Her smile brightened, "Nice. I'm from America too. My name is Pony Tsunotori from 1-B. Come on let's head inside." She began walking, taking you by the arm with her, "What's your name?"
"May. May O'Neil."
