All Donnie did was erase the tenth hero name he thought he had. But he was sadly mistaken, his turn was coming up soon…and needed one but…every time he tried and every time he closed his eyes he saw his…defeat. His embarrassing defeat at the Sports Festival, and with it came Aiwaza's words:
"There are other tracks, besides hero."
Donnie was the smartest out of his brothers and friends…
Right now he felt the opposite.
"Alright time for me!" laughed Mikey, breaking Donnie from these thoughts.
The youngest brother eagerly leaped from his seat and hurried to the front. Mikey wasted no time showing the class his name.
"I'm the lucky hero: Jackpot!" He rooted holding the sign over his head.
Donnie looked to Midnight expecting her disapproval, Mikey's name wasn't quite-
"Such flare!" Midnight praised, "The name gives positive reinforcement. Well done."
Donnie was surprised. Mikey was proud and went back to his seat. A few other students went, then came April. Calmly she stood and walked to the front. She glanced at her name for a moment seemingly uncertain and showed it.
"I've never had to think of a hero name, it was a bit of a challenge," she admired honestly, Izuku, Ochako, and Tsuyu couldn't wait to see it.
April took a moment, inhaled, and showed her name, "The mindful heroine: Psyche. The name is mostly from that Greek mythology story. But I think it fits."
You stare in awe and admiration, you could feel your smile grow but at the same time something side you sinks.
"Mythologies are stories told over centuries. Your name holds spirit and heart the same narrative to the story itself," said Midnight approvingly with a tender gaze, she took the whiteboard and gave it a look. "Yes. Fitting indeed."
April though surprised kept calm and thanked her. She took her whiteboard and went back to her seat. On the way, Tsuyu and Ochako gave her small cheerful gestures.
"That's a good name," Izuku leaned over and whispered to her.
April lightly smirked, "Thanks. Have you figured one out yet?"
He gave a sheepish smile and shuffled look, "No. Not. It's a bit more of a challenge than I thought."
April rested and assuring hand on his shoulder quickly, "You'll get it. Don't stress too much about it. Let it be natural."
"Yeah. You're right. Thanks."
Leo's turn finally came, after two other students. His heart skipped but quickly settled from Mimi's encouragement. He stood up, fixed himself, and walked to the front. The eyes of everyone he could feel on him. He needed to focus. He had to focus. Reaching the podium he cleared his throat and showed his name.
"I just want to honor my family name," he said simply, "The Honor Hero: Jutsu."
"Nice one, man," Karamai shouted grinning affably.
Midnight gave it a look, "Huh. I see."
"I something wrong," Leo asked looking at her nervously.
She didn't say anything, only doing small nods with a mild intense look. Leo began feeling the inside of his shell heat up.
After another minute Midnight approved, "It's suitable. Good work."
That wasn't the reaction Leo expected compared to what Mikey and April received. He had a question but held it back, he thanked her and went to his seat. Donnie noticed a bit of disappointment in his older brother and he was shocked too by Midnight's reaction.
When it came time for Raph, after a few other students, he begrudgingly walked to the front and without a single word, besides muttering 'This is stupid' presented his name.
Midnight adjusted her glasses and leaned in closer.
"I can't read your handwriting," she said, "it's nothing but…squiggles."
Raph grunted, "It's my name."
"What is it then?"
"It says it right there."
Midnight looked again, "I don't see it. So what's your name?"
Irritation rose on Raph and everyone could see. His board began melting from unwillingly activating his quirk, Midnight stepped back a bit.
"It's right there!" His voice rose, "I wrote it! This is stupid anyway, making up names!"
Aizawa opened a sharp eye at Raph with a warning intent, "Watch the attitude."
Raph felt tempted to glare back but resisted. His quirk stopped after melting a bit of the board. Midnight waited for him to say his name. Frustratingly Raph looked at his board and after taking a moment to read his writing spoke.
"Volcan."
With that, he took his board and without a word went back to his seat.
Donnie had to admit that Raph, with little effort, picked a good name. It fits just right. Donnie still hadn't figured out his, he looked down at his board and saw no name written, he did, however, write something else:
Department of Support.
A few more students went, your heart raced, soon it would be your turn and you still hadn't found a name. Feeling your nerves crawling over you, you side glacé Kirishima hoping to get his attention. But, for some reason, he couldn't look at you for more than five seconds before twisting around. You really needed his help.
"Alright, you're up next," said Midnight.
You jolted a little in your seat and looked straight ahead. You expected she was talking to you, but her eyes were on Donnie. He looked at her petrified, you've never seen Donnie like that before, worried yes...but that...never. A lump harden in Donnie's throat, he could feel it slowly cutting off his air as he stood slowly. The distance to Midnight suddenly seemed stretched as he walked forward. His heart pounded in his ears and sweat secreted his hands, he felt the whiteboard slowly beginning to slip. He did his best to keep himself calm but the eyes he felt on him from everyone burrowed on him. Trembles began setting in and for the first time, finally reaching the front his mind was blank.
He was quiet.
"Well," Midnight spoke breaking the silence her voice calm with observation, "let's see your name."
It was as though she spoke a different language or he went deaf Donnie didn't hear a word, only the pounding of his heart. Everyone waited for him to say something, to do something. April and Izuku exchanged quick worried glances. Raph, who had closed his eyes, hunched over his desk and opened an eye at Donnie. Mikey tried to help by writing on some notebook paper and holding it up. You looked on concernment wishing for some way to help him.
Donnie said nothing.
"Is he broken?" Mineta whispered to someone confusingly. "It's just a name."
Someone else said something, "Hey, Mikey isn't he the smart one? What's up with your brother?"
Donnie heard their words and felt himself shrinking. Midnight noticed his deposition and approached him kindly, "It's alright. Sometimes it takes time, you can sit down."
With a gentle guiding push she sent Donnie back to his seat. Your eyes followed Donnie all the way and it hurt you not to be able to get up and go over to him to give him comfort. The pain was brimming in your eyes, as though you wanted to shed a tear.
Your focus on Donnie held your attention you hadn't realized it was your turn. Midnight had been calling your name and you snapped your attention forward when Aizawa's voice cut through threateningly. The fear of what he might do shot you from your seat and you hurried to the front after nearly tangling your pants, being rather baggy on you, on the way there. You almost went head first when you reached the front from the entanglement, Kirishima almost stood up if not for Midnight who caught you.
"Whoa, so much spirit. I like it," she smiled hosting you up.
That same warm feeling back at the Sports Festival filled you when you first saw her, your eyes became bright and glossy holding onto every word and action she did. She set you up and handed you your whiteboard. Her confident smile, which was also kind she gave you. Your heart fluttered and you felt something inside brighten. This sudden rush came out literally around you, your quirk illuminated around you. Which caused some of the class to chuckle, it then clicked with Kirishima and he might have found you a name.
Midnight stood a foot from you, her eyes, though covered with a hand, on you supportively waiting for you, "Well, aren't you radiant. You're name?"
"M-My name," you repeat, blinking a few times to refocus and give thought. "My name...huh..." you ponder and look at your whiteboard that had nothing on it.
Izuku leaned in eager to hear what you had chosen. April, too. Leo gave an intent focus on you, hoping you'd at least say something. Mikey flashed you a thumbs-up. Donnie or Raph didn't pay attention, you noticed Bakugo turning away with annoyance. You paid him little mind and continued thinking of your name. All you could think of was your name.
You shrug slightly and turn to her candidly, "Forgive me, but I have not been able to properly figure out a respectable name. Hero name for myself."
Midnight stared at you surprised, a little, not from your answer but how you spoke. She smirked to herself and a small chuckle slipped out. "Aren't you cute!"She gave you a little pat on the head. "Thank you for being honest, but you're still going to need a name. But, I'm sure it'll come."
She sent you back to your seat, you stopped glowing. You sat down with a bashful smile that grow when you touched the top of your head.
She was so cool!
"Hey. Hey." Kirishima whispered for your attention.
You heard him and you joyfully he finally was talking to you, "Yes!"
Kirishima lost his words for a moment at your smile, he quickly adverted his eyes and wanted to stop talking but pushed himself. He smiled back, "G-Guess what?"
Your head tilted a bit, noticing his sudden stutter and curious to know what he wanted to say. "What?"
"I-I..."Kirishima paused for a moment and swallowed, "I have some ideas, for..your name. Hero name."
You gasped delighted to hear and gave him your full attention. "Really?"
"Yeah. If you want I can share them with you."
"Oh, yes, please! Please! Red Riot!"
You said his hero name. Quietly he smiled to himself from the warming sensation slowly filling him.
He continued, without the stutter, "Alright, let's talk about them over lunch. How about it?"
Your smile brightens and you answer resoundingly, "Yes!"
