Same Day: The Triskelion

S.H.I.E.L.D HEADQUARTERS

Hallway: Waiting Area

Looking inside the council meeting room, Rick turns to his right as Nathan's assistant opens the door. He holds the door open for Nathan as he leaves the room.

Nathan looks at Rick, surprised. He walks over to Rick and says, "I work 40 floors away, and it takes a hijacking for you to visit?"

Rick tells Nathan, "Well, a nuclear war would do it, too." They respectfully shake hands. Rick turns his head and nods to the council meeting room. Referring to Nathan's meeting with the World Security Council, he asks, "Busy in there?" They let go of each other's hand.

As he puts his hands in his pockets, Nathan tells Rick, "Nothing some earmarks can't fix."

Rick smiles before it disappears, looking down and around, "I'm, uh... here to ask a favor." He looks at Nathan, "I want you to call for a vote. Project insight has to be delayed."

Nathan tells Rick, "Rick, that's not a favor. That's a subcommittee hearing. A long one."

Rick says to Nathan, "It could be nothing. It probably is nothing. I just need time to make sure it's nothing."

Nathan questions, "But if it's something?"

Rick tells Nathan bluntly, "Then we'll both be damn glad those Helicarriers aren't in the air."

Nathan hesitates momentarily, not liking the request, before replying, "Fine. But you gotta get Iron Man and Iron Woman to stop by my niece's birthday party."

Rick nods in agreement, "Thank you, sir." They shake hands.

Nathan tells Rick, "And not just a flyby. They got to mingle." Rick nods as they let go of each other's hands. Nathan turns around and leaves as Rick looks back into the council meeting room.

Inside: VA (Veterans Administration) Building

Steven and Mabel walk down the hallway towards a room where a PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) group meeting is being held. Mordecai is standing on cue, counseling other veterans who are sitting in chairs in front of him.

A female war veteran explaining as Steven and Mabel stop by a wooden column. Steven puts his hands in his jeans pockets, leaning against the wooden column as Mabel crosses her arms, popping her hip out while she leans her weight on her right leg, "The thing is, I think it's getting worse. A cop pulled me over last week. He thought I was drunk. I swerved to miss a plastic bag. I thought it was an IED."

Mordecai says to them gently, "Some stuff you leave there. Other stuff you bring back. It's our job to figure out how to carry it." Steven crosses his arms, looking down before looking back at Mordecai, "Is it gonna be in a big suitcase or in a little man purse? It's up to you."

Minutes later, after the meeting ends, Steven and Mabel wait for Mordecai as he finishes saying goodbye to the veterans.

The female war veteran tells Mordecai, "I'll see you next week."

Mordecai tells the female war veteran, "Definitely." They separate and she walks away.

A female war veteran mumbles, "Yeah."

Mordecai walks over to a small table where sheets and pamphlets are. Steven and Mabel walk over to him, and Mordecai says, "Look who it is, the running man."

Steven introduces Mabel and Mordecai as they walk closer to Mordecai, "Mordecai, meet Mabel Pines. Mabel, meet Mordecai Peterson."

Mabel respectfully shakes hands with Mordecai and smiles, "Nice to officially meet you, Mordecai."

Mordecai offers a small smile back as he shakes her hand, "Likewise, Ms. Pines."

Mabel politely tells Mordecai, as they let go of each other's hand, "Please call me, Mabel." Mordecai nods in agreement.

Before anybody could say anything, a woman comes up to Mabel and says, "Excuse me, Ms. Pines." Mabel turns to her, and the woman smiles apologetically, "Can we have your autograph?" She points behind her to a few other girls with her thumb.

Mabel smiles and nods, "Sure." She turns to Mordecai and Steven, "Excuse me, gentlemen." They nod in agreement and with a hint of amusement.

The woman smiles happily, "Thank you." Mabel walks away with the girl, leaving the boys alone.

Steven leans against the wall, facing Mordecai, who is organizing the table, "Caught the last few minutes. It's pretty intense."

Mordecai agrees, "Yeah, brother, we all got the same problems. Guilt, regret." Mordecai looks at Steven.

Steven asks Mordecai, "You lose someone?" Mordecai crosses his arms.

Mordecai nods, "My wingman, Riley. Flying a night mission. Standard PJ rescue op." Steven looks at Mordecai as he listens, "Nothing we hadn't done a thousand times before. Until an RPG knocked Riley's dumb ass out of the sky." He shakes his head, "Nothing I could do. It's like I was up there just to watch."

Steven tells Mordecai sincerely, "I'm sorry."

Mordecai tells Steven, "After that, I had a really hard time finding a reason for being over there, you know?"

Steven nods in understanding. He looks down at the table and gestures around with a nod of his head, "But you're happy now, back in the world?"

Mordecai loosens up, "Hey." He looks around with a small smile, "The number of people giving me orders is down to about zero." He looks back at Steven, "So, hell, yeah. Are you thinking about getting out?"

Steven shakes his head, "No." He nods his head side to side, debating, "I don't know." He looks at Mordecai, "To be honest, I don't know what I would do with myself if I did."

Mordecai looks up and purses his lips as he leans back, "Ultimate fighting?" Mordecai leans straight, smiling, as Steven laughs, "Just a great idea off the top of my head. Seriously, you could do whatever you want to do. What makes you happy?"

Steven looks at Mabel down the hallway as she continues to sign some autographs and takes some selfies with the girls, answering Mordecai's question, "I don't know."

The Triskelion: S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters

Inside: Hallway

Rick walks up to Marcy as she's talking to an agent about some papers that are in her hands.

Rick stops in front of Marcy, asking her, "Agent Wu, may I have a word?"

Marcy looks at Rick, confused, but answers, "Certainly." She hands the papers over to the agent and walks alongside Rick, asking, "What's up, sir?"

Rick leads Marcy towards the exit, telling her seriously, "I need you to follow me, with no questions asked."

Marcy, now completely confused, drowns out, "Okay."

Inside: Rick's Car

Rick and Marcy get inside Rick's SUV, him in the driver's seat and her in the passenger seat. They buckle up, and Rick drives off.

Marcy sits in silence for a few minutes before she turns to Rick with a semi-hard expression and says, "Ok." Rick looks at her and says, "We're alone. What the hell's going on?"

Rick looks back at the road, "I said 'no questions asked' Marcy." He turns right.

Marcy nods semi-innocently, "I know, but I'm still asking."

Rick gives Marcy a look, and she gives him an innocent but pushy look-back, being one of the only people to stand up to Rick, her boss. Rick sighs, giving up, "I think something is going on, so..." He tells her sternly, "I want you in deep undercover, understood?"

Marcy nods sharply, "Yes, sir."

Before Marcy could ask what the assignment was, Rick started making a call. Rick's electronic car voice said, "Activating communications encryption protocol."

Rick instructs, "Open, secure line 0405."

Rick's electronic car voice says as it beeps, "Confirmed."

Marcy's sister, Tambry Wu's voice comes on as she answers the phone, "This is Tambry."

Rick tells Agent Tambry, "I need you here in D.C. Deep shadow conditions."

Tambry's voice tells Rick, "Give me four hours."

Rick tells Tambry, "You have three. Over." He hangs up.

Outside: Road

Rick stops at a red traffic light. He looks over to the next car and sees the two police officers in the car. They look at him with suspicion. Rick asks them nonchalantly, "Want to see my lease?"

Rick looks back at the road and the police officers quickly sound their siren once before they drive off.

Rick goes to drive off when suddenly, another police car smashed into his side of the car.

Inside: Rick's Car

The airbags go off for both Rick and Marcy.

Outside: Rick's Car

The 2 police cars drag Rick's car to the side of the road. The 1st police car stops and reverses back into the front of the car. Then police cars 3 and 4 come up from behind and on the other side of the car, all crashing into Rick's car.

Inside: Rick's Car

The SHIELD computer scans both Rick and Marcy as they get injured from the crash, the screen on the windshield showing an x-ray of their bodies. Rick's electronic car voice says, "Fracture detected." The computer shows a fracture in Rick's left forearm, Marcy, with a broken left wrist and a head concussion.

Marcy and Rick groan and gasp as the sudden crash disorients them. Marcy has a cut on her right temple, blood going down her face and neck, and Rick is bleeding from his left nostril and the right side of his bottom lip.

Outside: Rick's Car

Police car 2 reverses back as a black SWAT van drives past with the back sliding door open.

Inside: Rick's Car

Rick's electronic car voice tells Marcy and Rick, "Recommend anesthetic injection." Rick reaches over a groaning Marcy to his glove box.

Outside: Rick's Car

The SWAT van stops, and the SWAT team jumps out with their weapons.

Inside: Rick's Car

Rick grabs two aesthetic injections, grabs the cap with his mouth, pulls the stick, pops it open, and quickly jams the stick on his upper left arm, giving himself the injection.

Outside: Rick's Car

The SWAT team and all the police officers get out of their vehicles, take out their guns, and aim them at Rick's car.

Rick's electronic car voice informs, "D.C. Metro Police dispatch shows no units in this area."

Inside: Rick's Car

Rick glares at the incoming people surrounding his car. He spits out the cap before grabbing the other injection, pops open the cap with his mouth, and jams the stick in Marcy's left thigh, also giving her an anesthetic injection. Marcy gasps in surprise at the sudden action as she's still recovering.

Outside: Rick's Car

The police and SWAT team quickly surrounded Rick's car, aiming their weapons towards his car.

Inside: Rick's Car

Rick quickly realizes the police and SWAT team are all disguised mercenaries. Rick demands to his car computer, "Get us out of here!" Rick looks over at Marcy, who's looking all around with a glare as she holds her left wrist.

Outside: Rick's Car

Suddenly, the mercenaries shoot at Rick's car, which is bulletproof.

Inside: Rick's Car

Rick's electronic car voice informs, "Propulsion systems offline." The windshield computer shows that the engine is red and offline.

Rick looks at his computer windshield-screen and demands loudly, "Then reboot, damn it!" Marcy shifts and reaches behind her.

Outside: Rick's Car

The mercenaries continue to shoot at Rick's car.

Inside: Rick's Car

The windshield computer screen shows the percentage of the armor integrity getting lower and weaker.

Outside: Rick's Car

The mercenaries are still shooting their machine guns at Rick's car, not stopping.

Inside: Rick's Car

Rick looks around with a harsh glare as Marcy takes out her gun from behind her back, cocking it with her thigh, holding it up as she looks around.
