Welcome back to Elemental Crisis Book II. Last time, Cynder and Batwoman arrived at the last known location of Virgil Getty. After managing to dodge an attack by Killer Croc, leading to him getting frozen and shattered by Virgil Getty. But just as everybody, including Joker enters the scene, Joker reveals her ace in the hole, her spy on the inside, identifying them as none other than Detective Renee Montoya, who knocked Cynder out, giving Virgil Getty the distraction he needed to freeze Batwoman solid. Needless to say, we are not in a good spot right now. So, what awaits now that the holder of the Element of Shadow has been captured? Read on to discover...
(Our scene resumes in a new location, some kind of warehouse. Inside, the frozen Batwoman has been strapped to some kind of table with the A/C cranked to keep her from defrosting too fast. Meanwhile, Cynder has regained consciousness and sees that Renee Montoya is guarding them)
Renee Montoya: Good to see you're awake.
Cynder: (Groggily) Detective Montoya? You betrayed us?! Why?!
Renee Montoya: For love.
Cynder: (Realizing her guess was right) I thought I sensed your heart belonged to another.
Renee Montoya: It was that obvious?
Cynder: Someone who's been in love as long as I have can tell.
Renee Montoya: I will admit, I was tempted to abandon all this when I saw you. You are quite cute.
Cynder: Terribly sorry, Detective. I'm spoken for already.
Renee Montoya: I know. That's what I had to tell myself. I'm doing all of this for Pamela.
(Despite being frozen, Batwoman can still hear all of this, and for a moment, we hear her thoughts)
Batwoman: (In her mind) Pamela? Who the...? (Realizes exactly who who that is.) You can't be serious.
Cynder: Who the heck is Pamela?
(At this moment, that's of course when Joker chooses to walk in)
Joker: Who else would it be but Pamela Isley? The one and only Poison Ivy.
Renee Montoya: Speaking of, I'm sick of the runaround Joker. Either give me what I came for, or I let the Bat thaw out.
Joker: Calm yourself, Detective. (Pulls out the vine in a vial that Mad Hatter had earlier) As I said, I'm a woman of my word. The only known cutting of Poison Ivy's vine. Give this to your lady love, and she'll be back to normal.
Renee Montoya: (Taking the cutting) How do I know you haven't done anything to this?
Joker: Should we shake on it?
Renee Montoya: Do you think I'm that dumb?
Joker: Touche. Well, as I promised, you're free to leave whenever you wish.
(But just as Renee Montoya tries to leave, she finds Mad Hatter and Virgil Getty blocking the door)
Renee Montoya: What is this?
Virgil Getty: Tying off a loose end.
(Renee Montoya sees she's been betrayed and pulls her gun, but Mad Hatter steps in)
Mad Hatter: Drop it.
(Sure enough, Mad Hatter's hat takes effect, and Renee Montoya drops her gun, giving Virgil Getty the time he needs to freeze her legs and topple her over)
Joker: Admittedly, I was planning on having Mason just eat you at this point, but of course the Bat had to ruin that.
Renee Montoya: You said I was free to go!
Joker: I never said you could leave alive. (To Virgil Getty) That was your cue. Freeze her!
Virgil Getty: I can't. Tank's empty.
Joker: Because of course it is.
Virgil Getty: Thankfully, I've got more of the perfected formula on the second floor.
Joker: Good. Fill the tank then take her out back and finish the job. I've got a conference with the boss in the meantime. (To Cynder) Don't worry, I'll be back to deal with you and the Bat later.
(And with a psychotic chuckle, Joker leaves as we transition back to the Batcave, where the rest of the cast is getting unnerved)
Batwing: Something's wrong.
Spyro: We're on the same page there. Cynder and Ryan should have called in by now.
Flash: Then I think we're safe to assume something's happened to them.
Spyro: Luke, lock on to them and we'll get after them.
Batwing: Will in one second. (Presses a button on the Batcomputer) Got to get my power suit on.
(With the press of that button, a capsule rises from the ground, before opening to reveal the Batwing suit. As Luke Fox puts on the suit, Flash heads up to the Batcomputer and locks in on Cynder and Batwoman's location)
Flash: Looks like they're by the harbor.
(And as the group turns around ready for action, Batwing is suited up)
Batwing: Let's do this.
(And as the rest of the League, Legends, and Batwing head out to rescue their comrades, our scene ends for today)
And that looks like a good place to end for now. As I said last time, we are nearing the end of Book II, and I think by next time I'll have a useable estimate of how many chapters remain. So, it looks like Joker never planned to give Renee Montoya what she wanted, at least entirely. But now the rest of the heroes are on their way to rescue Batwoman and Cynder. So, what's going to happen next? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
