01: The Three Idiots.
It was the start of the school year in a certain high school and three first year students found themselves in the faculty room waiting to be reprimanded by a teacher. Two of them were girls, one a dark haired silent beauty, the other a red headed tomboy and the last one, a boy who was a kind of a creepy looking guy with a pair of rotten dead fish eyes. Their homeroom teacher, a busty woman in her late twenties who had introduced herself as Hiratsuka-sensei couldn't care less, she just wanted her first cigarette of the day, but unfortunately she had to remind herself that she had a more or less important job to do.
"So, who wants to go first?" The teacher asked.
The three students kept their mouths shut. The red head looked mildly embarrassed and stole furtive glances at the boy, thinking he hadn't caught her staring in his direction from time to time. The boy who was giving off really bad loner vibes nipped that problem in the bud by catching her in the act, holding her gaze and forcing her to look away. The dark haired beauty remained stoic, either pretending to ignore or being genuinely oblivious of what was going on with the other two in the background, but Shizuka was willing to bet all her years of teaching experience that the girl was just a bundle of nerves, hiding all her first day jitters behind a pensive look and a cool visage.
Hiratsuka Shizuka tried again. "Okay, let's start from the beginning. Since this was gonna be your first day of high school and you lot have obviously messed up whatever you thought was gonna be your dream debut, why don't you start by introducing yourself."
"What do you mean I messed up my high school debut!?" The red head asked. "I'm wearing a freaking skirt!"
An odd choice of phrase, but she was gonna allow it. "Yes, let's start with you." Hiratsuka spoke while pointing her index finger at the culprit. "You, girl who is surprised that she is wearing a skirt. Let's start with you. Tell us your name."
"What the hell! I'm not surprised. I wear skirts all the time!"
Why the hell did that sound like a lie?
The creepy boy standing next to her gave her what can only be called a stinky side eye, and took two steps to the side, choosing to stand further away from the possibly perverted teenage girl with the exhibitionist tendencies.
The red head chose to ignore him for a change. Instead she puffed out her chest, hooked a thumb back at her sizable breasts, smirked proudly and using a loud and excitable voice introduced herself properly. "Nice to meet ya, sensei. I'm Aizawa Tomo."
"Good." Hiratsuka nodded once before turning to the other two. "What about you, brat with the bad posture. It's your first day of high school and you're already slouching? Are you a teenager or a forty-five year old salary man?"
Shizuka could almost feel the inner turmoil the boy was going through in his head. On one hand he could let the slight on his character go past without a proper rebuttal, or he could give a bit of a snarky comment in response, get singled out so early in his school year and incur her wrath for days and months and years to come.
What's it gonna be punk?
"I'm Hikigaya Hachiman."
A wise decision.
Last but certainly not the least she focused all her attention on the girl stewing in silence. "What about you, princess?" Hiratsuka gently teased. "Why don't you give us a name as well?"
The dark haired beauty was silent.
An entire minute passed in silence.
The dark haired beauty remained silent.
Hiratsuka Shizuka tried not to be annoyed. She drummed her fingers along the surface of her table. "Anytime this week would be nice."
"…"
A breeze was heard blowing past outside rattling the windows.
Hiratsuka tried again. "You have to speak a bit louder kid."
Another attempt.
"…"
A printer was busy at work whirling out copies of print-outs.
"Did you get a name?" Hiratsuka asked.
Aizawa shook her head in the negative. "Nope. I mean sure, I saw her lips move for a second, but I didn't hear a single thing coming out of her mouth. She has a very soft voice, I think."
For some reason Aizawa sounded a bit jealous. Jealous of what exactly, Hiratsuka wondered. This girl's inability to speak louder. Perhaps she thought speaking in a softer voice was a more feminine quality. Something which the tomboy definitely lacked.
Tch, high schoolers, they were all idiots.
"Okay. Third time's the charm." Hiratsuka spoke good-naturedly. "Let's try this again shall we? Please introduce yourself."
Her face remained expressionless.
She definitely opened her mouth.
"…"
A mobile phone with an obnoxious ringtone rang in the distance.
"Huh? What did you say?" Hiratsuka asked while cupping her hand over her ear. "I didn't quite hear you. Please, speak louder princess."
One of them was really enjoying this whole scene play out and was kinda liking the entire vibe of this new teacher.
One of them was incredibly close to having a nervous breakdown.
One of them had possibly had enough.
"Why sensei, I didn't know you were hard of hearing." Hikigaya kept his tone conversational. "You don't look quite middle aged, but you should probably go see a doctor and get a hearing aid or something."
Aizawa swore. "Holy shit!"
"…" Miss Silence stayed unnaturally silent, but her eyes grew three sizes too big and for a second looked quite comical and cartoony.
Hikigaya had all the candor of a man who had just realized that he had committed the most gravest of sins and was about to face the death penalty.
And Hiratsuka was the queen who was gonna shout - 'Off with his head!', then let the guillotine do its job, watch his head roll off and fall into a bucket and later have his head up on a pike outside her place to ward of other evil creatures who made fun of her from no good reason at all.
Let it go.
It's the first day of school.
Let it go.
He's a brat.
Let it go.
He deserves divine punishment.
Before Hiratsuka could make up her mind and come to a decision as to whether or not she should physically assault, and by that she means punch a male student in the gut really, really hard for his rude behavior which nettled her feminine sensibilities and made her think about her own personal life and how it was totally in shambles, the unmarried woman in her late twenties was thankfully brought out from her downward spiral by a peculiar sound.
It was the sound of keys and buttons being pressed on a mobile phone.
The silent beauty was typing on her phone.
She stayed silent.
She finished typing.
She showed her what she had typed.
Hiratsuka had to lean closer on her chair and peer into the screen but the typed words were clearly visible on the small screen. But with the way things were only she was able to read her name. The other two students were still left in the dark and didn't have a clue as to what was going on.
Aizawa looked curious.
Hikigaya hid it better.
"Right," Hiratsuka's voice was clear and most importantly loud and perfectly audible. "Guys, meet Komi Shouko! Guys, say hello."
Aizawa waved. "Sup!"
Hikigaya nodded once. "Yo."
Komi Shouko seemed to have taken upon herself an herculean task, threw in a back breaking amount of effort and managed the barest of nods. Even now she had yet to make a single peep, no sound escaped her lips.
It was the start of the new term, the first day of high school for these brats and it hadn't even been thirty minutes yet, and Hiratsuka Shizuka-sensei already wished this day would be over and done with so that she could head back to her place and drink and smoke and read shonen manga in silence.
Well, this promises to be a troublesome year, Hiratsuka thought.
Author's Note: Hey everyone. Betrayed Dreams here. Long time no see. I know what you're thinking, "BD, you started another fic. Go finish your other fanfics!"
And to that I say, I'm sorry, but I can't help myself. Maybe I have ADHD.
But I just had this idea for a high school fic that wouldn't leave me alone and I just had to write it down. Actually, when I say high school fic, I mean a shared universe – Let's call it the "Chiba 'verse."
Now what can you expect from this fanfic? Well, the short answer is – Nothing.
I just want to write a slice of life/high school fanfic where nothing interesting happens except for interesting interactions between some of your favourite anime characters.
For example in this first chapter we were introduce to Aizawa Tomo, Komi Shoko, and Hikigaya Hachiman.
I think the characters themselves are so interesting that they tell the story itself.
And before you ask, I have already started writing the next chapter and it is at "600+ words" at the moment, so yeah you will be getting a second chapter soon.
Now let's do some polls –
Poll#1: Who Should I Focus On More?
Option 1: Komi Shoko – Komi-san Can't Communicate.
Option 2: Aizawa Tomo – Tomo-chan Is A Girl.
Poll#2: Which Male Character Gets Introduced Next?
Option 1: Tadano Hitohito – Komi-san Can't Communicate.
Option 2: Junichirou Kubota – Tomo-chan Is A Girl.
Finally,
[Question Number 1]: Which High School Anime Characters Do You Want To Show Up In This Fic?
I look forward to hearing back from you guys.
Leave lots and lots of reviews, follow and fave.
Won't betray your dreams.
P.S.: The next chapter will be uploaded when this fic hits the '10' review mark.
