Tower buddies: chapter 8

Chapter 8: the sighting

Anne was hanging out in her home with sprig.

The place had unofficially become their hangout spot, as it was hidden and cozy. Anne had also brought a giant square magnifying glass to turn her phone into a tv. Normally, she would have worried about charge, but Maddie, the plantars, Ivy and Anne had gone on a journey to try charge her phone. Maddie had used one of marcy's shrinking curses to shrink a zapepede and put it into a jar to make a charger for Anne. So yeah, they now had a TV, and both Maddie and Ivy were invited into the 'vibe cave' as anne and sprig called it.

One day, the toads trundled into town again; but this time they had a team of seven, led by bog.

"Where is the cloaked one?" Asked bog aggressively. "We're here for revenge."

"Looking for me?" They looked behind, and the same creature was there.

"And which one are you?"

Anne was confused. "What?" Suddenly one of the toads tried to tackle her. She hit them away, but the toad had succeeded. Her mask was off.

"Ah, good to meet you again, bush. I see you're not the pushover you were before."

Anne smirked. "Well, this is bad, but i can still fight." She took out her sword and ran to bog. Bog attempted to counter, but she pulled out a staff and proceeded to pole vault over him. He stumbled and she hit him to the ground from the back.

She picked him up and placed him back in his seat on the spider.

"Best be on your way, shouldn't you?" She smiled maliciously.

Fens gulped. "We know you're here now. We'll come back."

"Sure," Anne smiled. "Now bog off."

Sasha was growing increasingly nervous. A recent report had come in, and the toads now knew Anne was in wartwood. This was not good. Not only was Anne in danger, but the toads might catch on that Sasha may have been hiding the truth. She had to do something. And luckily, the chance arose when grime called her to his office.

"Now Sasha," he said, "I trust you. Not like all those other blunder heads down in there. I'm sending you to wartwood to scout out the area and find where Anne is living."

"You can count on me, captain."

"And Sasha?" He said, before she walked out, "don't try lying again."

Sasha's face turned pale. "Y-yes sir."

————————————

"Ok, hop-pop, I'm going to be staying in my cave for a while. It's hidden and the toads won't find it. I won't be coming out of the area, but feel free to visit for short whiles when the toads aren't around. Got it?"

"Got it." Hop pop watched Anne run into the forest to her home with her supplies.

And as one human ran away, another ran toward the house.

Sasha panted for breath. "I need to see Anne."

Hop pop frowned. "I can't tell you where she is, Sasha."

"How do you know my name?"

"Because Anne's been living with us."

Sasha was losing her temper. "Then take me to her!"

"No!" Hop pop shouted. "I'm sorry, but Anne is family now. And i'm not going to betray her!"

Sasha stared at him. Then just sat down and put her head in her hands.

"Please. I've already made so many mistakes, and if I don't fix this one, I'll make another one. I already hurt her again. Please, just let me fix this."

Hop pop stared at the crying girl, and it was then that he remembered that he wasn't dealing with adults. These were kids.

His voice softened. "You've been through a lot, haven't you?"

Her face raised.

"I'll go get Anne." He said, and led her into the forest.

They arrived at the small hobbit hole-style door in the woods.

"Anne? Someone is here to see you."

She opened the door, and saw Sasha.

"Sash?" She asked. "What are you doing here?"

"Look, I don't have much time, okay? The truth is that you're in trouble. The toads know where you are," she took a breath, "and they're coming to capture you."

"I know." Anne said. "Why do you think i'm in my cosy lil' cave?"

"No, you don't understand," said Sasha. "They're going to send soldiers to stay here. Permanently."

Anne turned white. "So… you mean…"

"Yeah. They'll always find you eventually."

Anne was scared. She wasn't gonna lie, she was terrified. "I'm not going back," she said.

Sasha paused. "An nor am i."

"…what?" Asked Anne.

"Enough with trying to be friends with these toads. They've brought nothing but harm to us. From now on, i'm done with them."

Anne smiled, touched. "So… what's the plan?"

Suddenly they heard a sound above.

"I'M THE PLAN!"

They looked up and saw a balloon.

"No way."

"Is that-"

The balloon retracted and an airbag deployed below.

As the wagon landed softly on the floor of the clearing, marcy walked out.

"The one and only!"

————————————

"So you're marcy," hop pop said. "Heard a lot 'bout ya. Thank you for helping free my granddaughter."

"No problem!" Marcy said. "I'm afraid we don't have much time. I was flying near the tower and sighted them getting everything ready to perform a search and capture. And from the trebuchets, they don't seem to care if you come back alive or dead," she winced.

She handed Anne an airsoft.

"Marcy… is that a gun?"

"Yeah, but it won't kill anyone," she said. "Here, take some curses as well. Remember, yellow pouch is fire, blue pouch is electricity."

"…"

"Marcy," sasha said, "why have you developed so many weapons?"

"Don't ask," she smiled. "And if all else fails, we have our getaway."

Anne smiled.

"Well, it's all or nothing," she said, pumping her fist. "Let's do this!"

Hey, sorry if this chapter was a little short. I find it hard to write long chapters all the time.
