Blake was intrigued. She wasn't present during the events that will more than likely be shown. But, she could see the tension in the ones who actually witnessed it.
Pyrrha felt tense for more reasons than one. Jaune would figure out it wasn't him who'd been the hero that day, and two she couldn't stop herself from being worried about Jaune. She knows he can handle himself, he's their leader, but that doesn't change the fact he was put into great danger.
Cardin, the reason for all of this in the first place. Her body catches alight. All she can feel is anger towards the boy. Why couldn't he have minded his own business? Why couldn't he have just left Jaune alone?!
"Pyrrha, are you alright?" Ruby broke the girl out of her thoughts, noticing she was staring intently at the carpet as if it were the most interesting thing in this room.
"Yes, yes, I'm fine, it's just-" Pyrrha didn't need to say anymore. All of them felt the same, sitting silently as they let their hatred for Cardin come off in waves. "We should just start the episode."
She motioned for Blake to press play. She did, but not without looking at her friend one more time.
*Volume Intro*
Jaune is shoved to the ground, grunting as he makes impact. "You know that wasn't very smart Jaune-y boy." Cardin picks up a bruised up Jaune by the collar of his hoodie. The rest of Team CRDL are off to the side, watching. "I'm gonna make sure they send you back to mommy in teeny, tiny, pieces."
"He's going to pay!" Nora screamed, fists clenched against the side of the armrests. Ren, sitting silent next to her, but a harsh glare present as he stares at the screen.
"Nora, please calm down." Jaune pleads. "Fighting him now won't do any good."
"I don't care what you do to me, but you are not messing with my team." Even when banged and thrown around, he doesn't relent and holds his ground.
"What, you think talk like that makes you tough? You think you're a big strong man now?" A humorless laugh was all Jaune gave him.
"He's more of a man than you'll ever be." Blake growls beneath her breath. Real men don't pick on the small just for their own amusement. Real men aren't self-centered, self-rigthous jerks who prey on the unfortunate and little.
I believe him to be. Pyrhha thought warmly. She knew it wasn't the time for those thoughts, so did her best to steer them away. Jaune was being beaten up for Remnant's sake!"
Cardin let out a cry of frustration at the little pricks perservence. Pulling back his fist, he propels it forward. Directly hitting his chin, both of them are engulfed in a bright light.
"Was that…" Ruby spoke in a hushed voice, eyes wide with amazement and curiosity.
"His semblance…" Pyrrha finished for her. Her voice filled with just as much wonder, possibly more.
"What happened?" Yang turned to ask the boy.
It was honestly such a long time ago. If he gave her an answer she would have to take it into account with the grainest hint of salt. I'm not sure, but when I can remember, I ask myself that question as well.
He trains his focus back onto the TV, maybe rewatching this will give him the answer he's been seeking for so long.
Cardin throws Jaune in front of him and inspects his arm, feeling as if it were just burned. Jaune looked completely fine, no bruises, scratches, nothing. He looks down at his arms, confused. A white glow waves and passes through.
Ruby stares with wide eyes. "He looks completely fine."
"As if he were healed." Blake tries to anyalize the situation.
Jaune's smile spread all across his face. Healing? Healing is my semblance? He was bouncing up and down in his seat, as if he had gotten his favorite present for Christmas. Pyrrha couldn't help but give out a small chuckle at the display. It was just too adorable.
Lark kicked Jaune to the ground by his back. The boy looked up at Jaune with a newly gained defiance.
"Let's see how much of a man you really are." Cardin challenged.
A deep, dark growl resignated throughout the forest. Team CRDL faced the noise, and cowered upon seeing an Ursa Major. It was three times the size of Cardin. Sharp, large, scraps of bone displayed on its back with beastly claws unsheathed.
Team CDRL stood in terror as the Ursa Major uprigthted on its hinds, sniffing the delicious aroma of the juicy sap present on Cardin's chestplate.
"That's a big Ursa!" A member of team CDRL yelled as they left Cardin to fend for himself. The kid frozen solid in his own terror.
Now being able to see it for myself, no wonder the guys were so terrified. They only said it was an Ursa, not an Ursa Major. Yang realized in thought.
"How were you able to stop something like that!" Nora yelled out in disbelief. Surprised and honestly wondering how her friends pulled it off.
Cardin was slapped away as if it were nothing, leaving Jaune vulnerable and for the taking. But, the Ursa completely dimisses him and slowly makes his way towards Cardin. Jaune stood up with a look of confusion but understanding as he watched the scene play out in front of him.
"Why's he going after Cardin?" Ruby voices the question they were all thinking.
"Maybe it could be the sap on this chestplate." Blake tries to reason.
"Grimm enjoy sweets? I thought they only craved blood and tears." Ruby concurred, thinking it was something as obvious as air.
"Remember Grimm feed on fear and negative emotions, so it couldn't have been the sap." Yang verbalized.
So that would mean. "Cardin's a coward." Everyone finalized in unison.
Cardin was confident for about a second as he brought out his mace, but it was swatted away with ease. Leaving him to the Ursa's mercy.
The mace rolled in front of Jaune's feet as he watches the events in front of him. He seems conflicted as he looks behind him, a free shot to escape, but staring at Cardin with indecision.
The loud growl spreads throughout the forest, before the screen switches to show the group, finished in their forage for sap.
"Did you guys hear that?" Ruby asks her friends.
Team DRL rush past them, Russel screaming 'Ursa!'
Russel runs right into Yang. "What? Where?" She yells in his face, voice filled with urgency. Not caring that he just collided into her.
Russel's is lucky it was so serious, or else Yang would have broken him. Ruby thought to herself.
"Back there! It's got Cardin!" He yells, pointing in the direction of where.
Pyrrha jar drops to her feet as her hand comes to her mouth in realization. "Jaune!"
"Yang! You and Blake, go get Professor Goodwitch." Ruby tells her teammates. Yang let go of Russel as he took off.
"You two, go with them! There could be more." Pyrrha asks the same of her friends.
They came to help? How come I didn't see them? Jaune thinks to himself. Could they not find us, should have been easy.
Back with Cardin, he was getting thrown around like he was nothing. "Crap! Crap! Crap!" His last option was to crawl away.
Pyrrha, Weiss and Ruby made it in time but were watching as the Ursa stood at its full height to finish Cardin off. "Oh no." Was all Pyrrha said at the view in front of her.
They did make it time, why didn't they come and help? Jaune was even moer confused. If they were there, why didn't they come help and intervene?
The Ursa's killing blow was deflected by Jaune's shield, saving Cardin. Both Pyrrha and Cardin looking at the boy in shock.
"Why did you save him? After all he's done? Not just to you but to everyone else!" Nora yelled not getting why Jaune stuck out his neck for him.
"Cardin might have been a bully, but no one is derserving of death." Jaune reasoned. "That's all he ever was. A person who picked on the little."
"But he was basically trying to kill Pyrrha!" Nora, still trying to defy his reasoning.
With raw strength, Jaune was able to hold off the Ursa and push him back. Weiss was ready to charge forward, but Pyrrha stopped her, telling her to wait.
"You were letting me fight my own battles, thanks Pyrrha." Jaune said to his partner gratefully.
"I'm sorry!" Was what she bursted out instead, confusing the boy.
"What are you being sorry for? You were helping me." He tried to ease her, trying to reassure her, but that only made her feel even worse. She was on the verge of tears, but didn't want Jaune to see.
Jaune swung a slice to its stomach causing the beast to stumble back. Every swing of its claws, Jaune was able to either dodge or jump out of the way to avoid the blows.
Look at my friend, he's growing up so fast. A small tear trickled down Ruby's cheek, a proud smile present upon her face.
The Ursa managed to score a hit, but it didn't deter Jaune as he just got right back up and charged foward. But actually to be swept off his feet. His breathing was heavy as he sees his aura level in the red.
Jaune runs forward one last time, body filled with determination to win this fight. The final moments of the battle are brought into slow motion, Ursa's claw raised and crashing to kill Jaune. And Jaune's sheild raised, intent on blocking the blow.
Here it comes. Pyrrha and Jaune thought together, but both were for different reasons. Jaune's in excitement, and Pyrrha's in apprehension.
Pyrrha's hand slowly raised, a faint black glow surrounds the appendage. Along Jaune's shield takes the same tint of black. Jaune's foot plants itself as he brings the killing strike, effectively cutting off the Ursa's head.
Wait, what? Jaune looked at the screen, brows furrowed, trying to connect the dots. But I thought…
Pyrrha sat next to him, awaiting his reaction that would soon become verbal. She gnawed on her lip, nervous of what he was going to say.
"I didn't- You… But I thought…" He wasn't able to fully compute how he was feeling. He looked over at Pyrrha. Seeming as if she was in a full blown sweat. He sighed, more to himself and directed his attention to Pyrrha. "Thank you, Pyrrha."
Pyrrha gave a few blinks, wondering if she heard that right. "Y-you aren't mad?" She had to get this question out of the way.
Jaune shook his head with a small smile. "No, I'm not mad. Why would I be? You helped me when I needed it."
A weight felt like it was lifted off of the warrior's shoulders. She could even feel a few tears threatening to fall.
The Ursa dropped dead, literally, and Pyrrha lowered her hand, smile making its way on her face as she looks at Jaune.
Ruby gaze directed towards Pyrrha's hand, then back to her face. She wasn't following anything that just transpired. "Uh, what?"
"How did you…" Weiss, equally confused as Ruby.
Pyrrha eased their confusion by explaining. "Well, Ruby has her speed, you have your glyphs. My semblance is polarity."
Ruby, thinking she has it figured out, whispers. "Ah, you can control poles."
Weiss shot the idea down, asnwering for her. "No, you dunce! It means she has control over magnetism."
"Magnets are cool too." Ruby whispers again, still easily as impressed.
"I don't think that's what she means by magnetism." Yang says to her little sister.
"I was close enough, right?" Ruby counters. Her sister shakes her head with a smile while Weiss just shakes her head.
Pyrrha chuckles at her friend.
Pyrrha starts to take her leave, and Weiss catches notice of this. "Wait, where are you going?"
"Yeah, we gotta tell them what happened!" Ruby says, agreeing with Weiss.
Pyrrha smiles, with a sly lilt to her voice. "We could. Or perhaps, we could just keep it our little secret." She finishes as she sees Jaune sheath his sword, confidence radiating off him.
Jaune makes his way over to Cardin and lends out a hand for him to take. Cardin's voice is full of Jaune when he speaks. "Holy crap, Jaune?"
Ignoring what he says, Jaune leans closer to Cardin. His voice is hard and warningful. "Don't ever mess with my team, my…friends, ever again." Cardin stares deep into Jaune's eyes, finally getting through his thick head how serious he is. "Got it?"
Not bothering to let him speak, Jaune walks away from a frozen Cardin.
"And walks away like a boss." If Ruby was wearing aviators, she would make a very convincing stereotypical cool kid. Having her arms crossed and everything.
"That's how you walk away from a bully, knowing you've won." Yang adds, taking the same pose as her sister.
"But some people don't know when to back down, don't know when to quit." Blake muttered to herself, staring forelongingly at the screen.
The screen fades to show nighttime. Jaune staring off in the distance at the top of the roof. "No Cardin tonight?" Come Pyrrha's voice as she stands next to her leader. "I thought you two were best buds?"
You came back, because you knew I would have everything fixed. Jaune remembers, thinking more deeply at that moment between the two.
Jaune turns to Pyrrha, his face full of remorse and his words filled with regret. "Pyrrha, I'm sorry. I was a jerk. You were only trying to be nice and I-I had all this stupid macho stuff in my head-"
I was such an idiot. Jaune faced the ground, not having the ability to look at the screen. Or Pyrrha.
He felt a hand reach down in his. It felt familiar and soft. He didn't need a masters degree to know it was Pyrrha's. But, even then, he didn't look at her.
Pyrrha's stern voice cut him off. "Jaune. It's okay." Her voice, full of sincerity. The both of them giving ech other a smile of solace. "Your team really misses their leader, you know."
Pyrrha made her to the door, her back facing Jaune. "You should come down. Ren made pancakes~" She ended in a singsong tone. "No syrup, though, you can thank Nora for that."
"It amazes me how much one person can eat." Pyrrha shook her head, only remembering a mountain of pancakes with a waterfall of syrup to top it off.
"I've seen Nora eat before, that isn't the most of it." Ren continues, shaking his head. Having fully experienced the capacity of Nora's appetite.
"Is that a challenge, Ren?" Nora crosses her arms, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"I know we are having to watch over ourselves, but I really don't think Raider would want to come back with sticky tiles and pancake crumbs everywhere." Pyrrha says with all seriousness, but she couldn't hide the smile that made its way on her face.
"Wait!" Jaune calls out to Pyrrha, having something to say. She stops and turns around to give Jaune her full attention. "I know I don't deserve it after all that happened, but would you still be willing to help me?" Jaune pauses, but continues in a more confident stance. "To help me become a better fighter."
Pyrrha turns her back to him to make it look like she's thinking it over. Jaune's smile looking a bit nervous.
Pyrrha smiles, having made up her mind, and walks over to Jaune. Then pushing him to the ground. "Hey!"
Ruby bursts out laughing, "Bet you didn't expect that, did you?"
Jaune rubs the back of his head, seeming a little nervous. "Not really, no. But I do know I did deserve it." He finishes in a much quieter voice. "That didn't stop it from hurting though." Feeling the phantom pain in his but where he landed.
"We all need motivation at some point." Blake joins, a small teasing smile could be seen.
"Your stance is all wrong. You need to be wider and lower to the ground." Pyrrha says, looking down on him while he sits on the concrete. Hands at her hips.
Pyrrha reaches a hand out for him to take, pulling him back to his feet. "Let's try that again." Were Pyrrha's final words as Jaune gives her a hopeful smile.
The screen raises itself into the sky before it fades.
"The ending was a lot more lighthearted than the beginning of the episode." Ruby pointed out, giving her arms a little stretch.
"It most likely won't be like this in later episodes, so we're going to have to prepare for the worst." Blake states.
"I've also noticed how this episode was more focused on our team than yours. So, that just means we would be seeing some splitting off at points." Weiss adds. Seeing as it was out in the open, they've noticed it too.
"And I still haven't forgotten that we're going to kick Cardin's butt when we get home!" Nora shouts, fists making contact with each other.
"Nora…" Jaune's face would imitate perfectly with the expression that has a small nervous sweat rolling down their head.
