Chapter 28: CatNap Vs DandyDragon: Dragons Take Flight!
The crowd in the tournament was cheering as RatedRat and a drone with a video camera on it started to get the crowd their attention.
"It's time!" She shouted, "For the first duel of Round 1!"
The audience cheered as PickyPiggy was eating the rest of her popcorn.
"Alright, guess CatNap is gonna duel in this one, huh?" She said as she finished up her popcorn, "Let's see what's in store."
RatedRat then introduced CatNap and DandyDragon as they went out into opposite sides of the dueling fields.
"The first duel will be CatNap vs DandyDragon of Round 1!" RatedRat shouted, "Who's gonna win this duel?! Let's find out, now!"
RatedRat ran back from the dueling field as CatNap and DandyDragon prepared their duel disks.
"Duel!" Both CatNap and DandyDragon shouted,
The duel begins. The two duelists drew their 5 cards and DandyDragon started the duel off. DandyDragon looked at her hand and giggled.
"This is almost too easy!" She shouted, "My hand is looking great!"
CatNap was confused.
"What the heck is she on about?" He wondered,
DandyDragon sighed happily.
"Luck on my side again." She said, "When I dueled Hoppy, my hand was ok, but now it's better!"
DandyDragon shows a Field Spell of some sort.
"From my hand, I activate the Field Spell, Dragon Ravine!" She said as she activated the Field Spell,
"Dragon Ravine?" CatNap said, "You play Dragons?"
"No, only special kinds of Dragons and Winged-Beasts monsters to help me take flight!"
"...Go on."
"I will! Because I'll show you what Dragon Ravine can do!"
DandyDragon then discarded a monster called, "Dragunity Remus" to the graveyard.
"By discarding one card, I can activate one of the two effects Dragon Ravine has!" She said, "I can either add 1 level 4 or lower Dragunity monster from my deck to my hand, OR, send a dragon monster from my deck to the graveyard!"
"And what will you choose in this, "exciting" moment of yours?" CatNap wondered,
DandyDragon searches for a monster called, "Dragunity Phalanx" and shows it to CatNap.
"I'll be sending a Dragon monster from my deck to the graveyard!" She replied, "And that will be Dragunity Phalanx!"
Dragunity Phalanx was sent to the Graveyard. Then, DandyDragon shows another monster from her hand.
"Now I Normal Summon Dragunity Dux!" She shouted,
Dragunity Dux was Normal Summoned in Attack Position with 1700 ATK Points, but gained an extra 200.
"Dux gains 200 ATK Points for every Dragunity card I control, including himself!" She said, "And when he's Normal Summoned, I can equip a Level 3 of lower Dragunity monster from my graveyard to Dux in the Spell and Trap Zone!"
DandyDragon then brings Dragunity Phalanx from her graveyard to her Spell and Trap Zone as an Equip Spell to Dragunity Dux, having Dux gain an extra 200 ATK Points, bringing his ATK Points to 2100 now.
"And when Phalanx is equipped to a monster, I can Special Summon it to the field!" She continued, "So come on out, Phalanx!"
Phalanx was Special Summoned in Defense Position with 1100 DEF Points.
"And Phalanx is a Tuner monster!" DandyDragon said, "So that means a Synchro Summon will occur!"
"A Synchro Summon, huh?" CatNap wondered, "Bring it!"
"I will! My Level 2 Dragunity Phalanx will tune my Level 4 Dragunity Dux, right now!"
A Synchro Summon has started with the Level 2 tuner, Dragunity Phalanx and the Level 4 non-tuner, Dragunity Dux.
"I Synchro Summon, Level 6, Dragunity Knight - Gae Dearg!" DandyDragon shouted,
Dragunity Knight - Gae Dearg was Synchro Summoned in Attack Position with 2400 ATK Points. The dragon roared.
Inside the locker rooms, DogDay, Bubba, Hoppy and Bobby were watching the duel. Hoppy was watching with a serious look while sitting on a bench.
"...Dragunity." She said, "Those cards are powerful when working well with Dragon Ravine."
"You've dueled DandyDragon before." Bubba said, "What was it like?"
"...I lost the duel, but she knew that luck would be on her side. At first, she started with a decent hand, but gets the job done when she gets to Dragon Ravine."
"So Dragon Ravine helps DandyDragon get to victory…" DogDay said, "Sure hope CatNap can find a way to win and advance."
Back to the duel, DandyDragon is now gonna activate Gae Dearg's effect.
"Now for Gae Dearg's effect!" She said, "Once per turn, I can add 1 Level 4 or lower Dragon or Winged-Beast monster from my deck to my hand."
DandyDragon searches for Dragunity Darkspear and reveals it.
"And since I did that, I must discard a Dragon or Winged-Beast monster." She said as she revealed another Dragunity monster in her hand, "So I'll discard Dragunity Couse."
Dragunity Couse was then discarded to the Graveyard. Then, DandyDragon brings out Dragunity Remus from her Graveyard.
"And when I control a Dragunity monster while Remus is in the Graveyard, I can Special Summon Remus!" She said, "But he must be banished upon leaving the field!"
Dragunity Remus was Special Summoned in Defense Position with 800 DEF Points.
"And what's more is that Remus is also a Tuner!" DandyDragon said, "So now I'll be tuning my Level 2 Dragunity Remus with my Level 6 Dragunity Knight - Gae Dearg!"
Another Synchro Summon has started with Level 2 tuner Dragunity Remus and Level 6 Dragunity Knight - Gae Dearg.
"I Synchro Summon, Level 8, Dragunity Knight - Barcha!" DandyDragon shouted,
Dragunity Knight - Barcha was Synchro Summoned in Attack Position with 2000 ATK Points.
"Now for Barcha's effect!" DandyDragon shouted as she equips Barcha with Couse, Phalanx and Gae Dearg from her Graveyard as Equip Spells, "Upon Synchro Summoning, I can equip as many Dragunity dragon monsters from my Graveyard to Barcha as Equip Spells! And Barcha gains 300 ATK Points for every Dragunity card equipped to him!"
Dragunity Knight - Barcha now has 2900 ATK Points. DandyDragon then sets a card in her Spell and Trap Zone.
"I set one card face-down and end my turn." She said, "Try and stop me now!"
"Don't worry, I will!" CatNap said as he draws to start his turn,
Turn 2.
CatNap: 4000
DandyDragon: 4000
CatNap looks at his hand of new cards and thinks for a few seconds.
"Let's hope these new cards of mine can help me win!" He said to himself as he then turned to DandyDragon, "Alright, DandyDragon, let's bring it!"
CatNap then showed a Spell Card.
"I activate the Spell Card, Chaos Space!" He shouted,
"Chaos Space?!" PickyPiggy said from the audience, shocked, "He's got a totally new deck?!"
CatNap then activated Chaos Space.
"With this, I can send a Light or Dark monster from my hand to the graveyard to add a Light or Dark of the opposite attribute, with a Level from 4 to 8, and that can't be Normal Summoned or Set!" He explained, "And I'll send this card!"
CatNap sends a monster called Chaos Witch to the Graveyard.
"With Chaos Witch being a Dark attribute monster, I'll add a Light monster from my deck to my hand through Chaos Space!" He said as he adds a monster and revealed it, "And that's gonna be White Dragon Wyverburster!"
PickyPiggy was stunned.
"Whatever this new deck of CatNap is, it better help him win!" She said, "I guess his Lunalights aren't good anymore for this tournament?"
CatNap then banished Chaos Witch.
"And by banishing a Dark monster, I'll Special Summon White Dragon Wyverburster!" He shouted,
White Dragon Wyverburster was Special Summoned in Attack Position with 1700 ATK Points.
"And when Chaos Witch is banished, I can Special Summon two Light Beast Tokens!" He shouted as two Light Beast Tokens were Special Summoned in Defense Position with 1000 DEF Points, "And they're both Tuners, but now I only have to Special Summon Light and Dark Synchro Monsters from the Extra Deck during this turn."
"So… You're Synchro Summoning for 6?" DandyDragon wondered,
"Not with any of these tokens!"
"Say what?"
"I Normal Summon the Tuner monster, Chaos Mirage Dragon!"
Chaos Mirage Dragon was Normal Summoned in Attack Position with 1600 ATK Points.
"Now I'll tune my Level 4 Chaos Mirage Dragon with my Level 4 White Dragon Wyverburster!" CatNap shouted,
A Synchro Summon between Level 4 tuner Chaos Mirage Dragon and Level 4 White Dragon Wyverburster has started.
"Spark under stardust and coalescence into a new star of hope!" CatNap chanted, "Synchro Summon!"
CatNap then brought out a powerful Synchro Monster on the field.
"Take flight, Level 8, Stardust Spark Dragon!" He shouted,
Stardust Spark Dragon was Synchro Summoned in Attack Position with 2500 ATK Points. DandyDragon was amazed by one of CatNap's new monsters.
"Impressive." She said with a smile,
CatNap then sets a card in the Spell and Trap Zone.
"I set one card face-down and end my turn." He said,
DandyDragon was confused.
"Huh?! That's it?!" She said, "You're not gonna explain what Stardust Spark Dragon does?!"
"I'll tell you during your turn." CatNap replied, "So bring it on!"
"Uhhhh… Ok! Fine! Whatever floats your boat, I guess!"
DandyDragon draws a card to start her turn.
It was Turn 3.
CatNap: 4000
DandyDragon: 4000
DandyDragon smiled and activates the Spell right away.
"I activate the Spell, Pot of Greed!" She said as she drew 2 cards from her deck to her hand, "This little sucker lets me draw 2 cards from my deck!"
"But what does it actually do?" CatNap wondered,
"Nothing! It's just a card!"
CatNap looks like he was gonna laugh.
"Go on." He said as he held his laughter.
DandyDragon rolled her eyes as she proceeded with her turn. She then activates another Spell Card from her hand.
"I activate another Spell Card, and this one is Dragunity Glow!" She shouted, "This lets me add 1 Level 5 or higher "Dragunity" monster from my Deck or GY to my hand!"
DandyDragon then searches for Dragunity Arma Mystletainn from her deck to her hand.
"Now I Normal Summon the Tuner Monster, Dragunity Darkspear!" She shouted,
Dragunity Darkspear was Summoned in Attack Position with 1000 ATK Points.
"And instead of another Synchro Summon, I'll send Dragunity Darkspear to the Graveyard to Special Summon Dragunity Arma Mystletainn!" She shouted,
Dragunity Darkspear was sent to the Graveyard as Dragunity Arma Mystletainn was Special Summoned from DandyDragon's hand in Attack Position with 2100 ATK Points.
"And then I'll go ahead and start the Battle Phase!" DandyDragon shouted as the Battle Phase shouted, "So let's battle! Dragunity Knight - Barcha will attack Stardust Spark Dragon!"
Barcha then charges at Stardust Spark Dragon. CatNap smiled.
"I activate Stardust Spark Dragon's effect!" He shouted, "Once per turn, I can target a card I control and until the end of this turn, that card cannot be destroyed by battle or by card effects!"
"So what? You still take the damage!" DandyDragon said, "BATTLE Damage!"
"Which is good because I also activate my face-down Trap Card, Mirror Force!"
Mirror Force was activated. The crowd goes wild.
"Yeah!" PickyPiggy shouted, "CatNap got her!"
"With this Trap Card, if one of your monsters declares an attack, all face-up Attack Position monsters you control are destroyed!" CatNap said,
"What a bunch of baloney!"
"Sorry, it is–"
"--For you at least!"
"Huh?"
"I activate MY Trap Card, Seven Tools Of The Bandit!"
Seven Tools Of The Bandit was activated!
"By giving up 1000 of my Life Points…" DandyDragon said as her Life Points went down to 3000, "I can negate and destroy your Trap Card's activation!"
"What?!" CatNap said,
Mirror Force was destroyed as Barcha then attacked Stardust Spark Dragon, dealing 400 points of damage to CatNap.
"Hrgh…" He groaned as he took the damage, leaving his Life Points down to 3600.
"Well, guess you have survived." DandyDragon said, "At least, for now."
DandyDragon sets another card face-down in the Spell/Trap Zone.
"I'll just set another card face-down and end my turn." She said, "Good luck, CatNap. You're gonna need it."
It was Turn 4.
CatNap: 3600
DandyDragon: 3000
DandyDragon looked down at her face-down Trap Card and giggled to herself.
"My face down card is Solemn Strike." She said to herself, "If CatNap tries to Special Summon a monster or try to activate a monster's effect, I'll just pay 1500 of my Life Points to negate the summon or effect and destroy it!"
CatNap took a deep breath and put two of his fingers on the top card of his deck.
"Alright, I'm in a sticky situation." He said, "Have faith in me, my cards. I draw!"
CatNap drew the top card and looked at it. He then smiled.
"This is the one." He said as he then showed it to DandyDragon, "I activate the Quick-Play Spell, Cosmic Cyclone!"
"Oh shit!" DandyDragon shouted,
CatNap's Life Points were then down to 2600.
"By giving up 1000 of my Life Points, I can target a Spell or Trap on the field and banish it!" He said, "So your face-down card is banished!"
DandyDragon's Solemn Strike was revealed and banished.
"My Solemn Strike!" She shouted,
"Perfect!" CatNap said, "Because I'm about to Normal Summon a new ally to my field!"
CatNap then Normal Summoned a monster to his field.
"I summon Fallen Of Albaz!" He shouted,
Fallen Of Albaz was Normal Summoned in Attack Position with 1800 ATK Points.
"Fallen Of Albaz…" PickyPiggy said,
DogDay was watching in the locker room.
"There he is!" He shouted, "That's CatNap's trump card! He waited for the right time to use it!"
CatNap then discarded another card from his hand to the Graveyard, being Chaos Grapher.
"Upon being Summoned, I can discard 1 card to activate Albaz's effect." He said, "I can Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster from my Extra Deck by using not only this card as Fusion Material, but with one of your monsters!"
"What?!" DandyDragon shouted, "You're joking!"
"No I'm not! Because I'm about to fuse Fallen Of Albaz with your Dragunity Knight - Barcha!"
"Impossible!"
Fallen Of Albaz began to merge with Dragunity Knight - Barcha and destroyed any of the monsters equipped with Barcha.
"From destructive crystals comes a new dragon. Destroy the darkness with your rage of ice!" CatNap chanted, "Fusion Summon!"
A dragon made of crystals of blue and purple slowly emerges.
"Form into oblivion, Level 8, Mirrorjade The Iceblade Dragon!" CatNap shouted,
Mirrorjade The Iceblade Dragon was Fusion Summoned in Attack Position with 3000 ATK Points. Its roar made the crowd cheer.
"Woah! A new monster!" One critter shouted,
"Awesome!" Another shouted, "CatNap has turned the tables in this one!"
DandyDragon was shocked. She then smiled.
"Well… You can do that, huh?" She wondered, "Fusion Summon a monster by using one of mines as materials. Impressive."
"I appreciate the compliment, but this duel will be over." CatNap said,
"What?"
"I activate Mirrorjade's effect!"
CatNap sends a Fusion Monster from his Extra Deck to the Graveyard, being Starving Venom Fusion Dragon.
"By sending 1 Fusion Monster from my Extra Deck to the graveyard, I can target a monster you control and banish it!" He said, "And that's your Arma Mystletainn!"
Mirrorjade then prepared to use his ability by powering up a roar.
"Mirror Roar!" CatNap shouted,
Dragunity Arma Mystletainn was then banished by Mirrorjade's roar.
"Woah." DandyDragon said, "To think that I'm also a dragon."
"Well you're lucky because I can't use Mirrorjade's ability next turn, but I can still attack and win this duel!" CatNap said, "So time to battle!"
The Battle Phase starts as CatNap puts his arm out at DandyDragon.
"Mirrorjade, attack DandyDragon directly and end this duel!" He shouted, "Branded Ice Blades!"
Mirrorjade's crystals then pierced the ground as they new ones appeared to attack DandyDragon and drained her Life Points down to 0. DandyDragon was then on one knee as the crowd cheered more.
"No way!" RatedRat shouted in the commentary booth, "CatNap won! …CatNap won. Wow, what a duel."
CatNap then went over to DandyDragon to get her up.
"Well, that was one hell of a duel, CatNap!" She said, "You got me in less than 10 turns!"
"Is that how long your duels with Hoppy were?" CatNap wondered,
"Uhh, yeah? I guess."
"Well I'm not complaining."
RatedRat with a microphone in one hand came out of the commentary booth to be with CatNap.
"CatNap, congrats on your first win!" She said, "You will be advancing to the Semi-Finals where you could be facing either Bobby BearHug or DogDay! How are you feeling?"
"Uhhh… Fine?" CatNap wondered, "It's been a while since I dueled either Bobby or DogDay, so…"
"That's good to hear! We'll have to wait and see! Good duel you two! Go ahead and head back to your locker rooms!"
CatNap and DandyDragon then headed back to their locker rooms. PickyPiggy was clapping for CatNap.
"Yeehaw! Good job, CatNap!" She hollered, "Woohoo!"
