For the first question, that's super general, and I'll have to ask you to search my blog for my many opinions on it xD
However, to summarize, I feel it's the most canonally supported and the offical Sonic Team have been confirmed to support it as well. (She was literally made to be his love interest like?) But on an unfactual and totally my opinion note, I believe Sonic needs someone with that spiritual and emotional core support in his life. She's constantly stabilizing him and giving him experiences outside of saving the world. I find that every character needs someone to challenge them or give them something outside their 'daily routine' I suppose. She's a constant surprise to him, a trip in his usual stride that makes him show different emotions we wouldn't naturally see in a typical 'sonic' scene. I also think Amy needs Sonic, someone to encourage her in her 'freedom' to follow her heart and live the way she wants too. Sonic inspires and connects all his friends, bringing out the best in them, and I think Amy gravitates towards characters who strengthen her like this. She's truly inspired and in awe of Sonic and that's super sweet to see and watch. ^^
As for the comic, I always wanted to do two fanfictions about it.
1. Amy becoming a nomadic street fortune teller. One day, she meets Sonic's kid and tells his fortune, then gives him a charm to wear. Sonic hears this from his son and rushes to find her, missing his life-long friend as well as Sally, who is running right behind him to find her. Amy is about to disappear from the kingdom when Sonic chases her on the rooftops and asks her to stay. Sally and her children stay back as Amy simply smiles and tells them she's happy for them, and wouldn't want to ruin their fun. In reality, it hurts too much to see Sonic so in love and happy with someone else, but that person is also someone she deeply cares about. She takes off and is never heard from again, but Sonic's Son remembers her and keeps the charm, which Sally and Sonic have no issues with.
2. Amy becomes a nun (Popular speculation) but while being a nun hears about Shadow's return and worries about Sonic and the gang. She then strips off her nun's gown to reveal a warrior's attire. She devotes her time to fighting and training new recruits/knights as one of Sonic's elite generals (I would assume at an uneasy distance from him, seeing him a lot but trying to keep her distance due to the pain of not really having been with him.) Everyone is happy to see her but after everything occurs she returns to being a nun and doing charity work, raising orphans, the like. She gets a package one day from everyone she loves that has updates on their lives, she keeps the family portrait of Sonic, Sally, and their kids in her room as a constant reminder that if ever there was need to help them, she would once again leave the monastery and go do her duty. In a way, still wanting to protect and help Sonic, even now…
I also believe she was excluded to make way for Sonally, but that's just my personal opinion. But yeah, I see Amy never marrying, but constantly loyal to her friends and still pining for Sonic but distancing herself to make it easier on him and her friends. She also just wants to do good, you know? I think she would be a 'mother' like figure to the orphans at the monastery.
I also would like to note I'm not bashing or criticizing Sonally fans! Please feel free to ship or like whatever couple you so wish! I'm merely answering a question that was asking about my opinion. Let the world have their fun, I say! lol
