IDK if you can headcanon, but Amy might be trying super hard to get a date w/ sonic and he tells her when she can beat him (he assumed in a race) then he'll go to dinner with her, and she goes around doing all the events she can against him trying to beat him, then maybe in a tennis match or something he loses by a shot he *could've* hit, and she's all excited. Did he really lose to her, or privately want her to win? which is worse: losing or letting her win? idk any canon might not be writable!

Prompt:

"That's it! I challenge you to… to… to a challenge!" Amy cried out, seeing as Sonic was about to leave.

"Excuse me?" He turned around, folding his arms and looking at her like she was silly. "And on what planet do you think you can beat me at anything?"

"You said you'd go on a date with me! You lied!" She pointed an accusing finger at him.

"I was momentarily detained!" he argued.

"You beat Eggman an hour ago!"

"….I was picking wild flowers." he looked away, obviously he had just forgotten he was going on a date with her today, but didn't really want to admit that he was lost in thought picking flowers…

Oh wait,

He just DID.

"Ohh!" Amy shook her fist to her sides. "Well, you WON'T forget a loss! I'm going to defeat you and this time, YOU PLAN THE DATE!" she hollered out, as he was a good distance away from her.

He raised an eyebrow, wondering if she was being serious.

"…I mean it!" She cried out, seeing as he was questioning her. "I'm determined to succeed!"

"…You'll need a lot more than determination to triumph over me, Amy…" he lifted up his arm and held his head up with his hand, REALLY doubting her abilities right now. "But let's say I was gonna take you up on this little… sport of yours….What game would we play?" he asked.

"…uh…" Amy put her two pointer fingers together, looking away and thinking quickly.

"..I'm waaaiting." he called back to her, lowering his arm and tapping his foot.

"..oohhh.. how about a… a…"

"…Patience dwindling… interest decreasing… about to take off… Placing foot down in 3…2.." he was slowly turning around, looking bored, and about to place his foot down when.

"A race! I challenge you to a race!" she blurted out, "oh no.." she covered her mouth by placing her two fists up to her muzzle, nervous and embarrassed that she might of just lost before she even began.

He held his foot where it was, over the ground, and started bursting out laughing. "A..HAHAHAHA…A R-HEH-HAHAHAAHAH! A RACE?! Are you for real?" he could barely breathe he was laughing so much, clutching his stomach as she puffed up her cheek, and lowered her hands down to show a red face full of anger at his mocking. "Amy, you couldn't speed by a 3-legged sloth."

"Are you chicken?"

"…." Now THAT got his attention. "What was that?" he turned his head at an alarmingly slow rate, glaring back at her over his shoulder and to the side of him.

"You heard me. Right here, right now. There's only one rule, NO. SABOTAGE." she stated clearly, and stomped her foot down. "First one to the ocean shore gets to have a favor by the loser. Deal?"

Sonic turned around to face her, placing a hand on his chin that also covered his mouth, as you could see a faint crooked smile suddenly appear behind it and sticking out to the side of his hand. His eyes narrowed, and his competitive spirit got the better of him. "Oh Amy.." his voice was smooth and almost devilish, as he took one step and was suddenly right dead in front of her.

She gasped but tried not to look afraid.

He leaned as close as he felt he could to her face, as the camera zoomed in, showing how threateningly close they were…

"You're just screwing yourself over here…But I would be happy to oblige." he suddenly lost his tone of voice and stepped away, before bowing politely and looking smug as ever. (I'm not sure if it's okay to say 'screw' in a kid's game… but hey! They once said 'genocide'. so, you know, all cards off the table now!)

"Where do we begin?" he smiled as he rocked on his heels, completely mocking this whole thing it seemed, as he placed his hands behind his back, before stretching and moving them to his sides. "Is there a direct route you want or should we just improvise?" he asked, kindly.

"…Straight!" Amy stated, "Because you know all the shortcuts.." she pouted, knowing even without using all of his speed, he'd still win with his knowledge of the terrain…

"That I do~" he chimed out, getting down and into running position. "Alright, straight it is then. Ready to do my will?" he smirked up to her, though he really wasn't sure what he would do as a 'favor' from her yet.

"Grr… Nope! But I sure as HECK can't wait to see our DATE you plan out yourself! hmph!" she stuck her nose up, not liking his attitude even though she knew he had this in the bag…

He chuckled at her, finding it funny how she was still acting like she had a CHANCE.

"Ready! Set!" she stared, as Sonic was looking like an Olympic runner, raising his butt up and ready to just spring forward. "…Pfft." she looked away, laughing at his butt moving upward.

"Hey!"

"Go!" she caught him momentarily off guard and started racing forward.

"Huh? Oh, you're playing like that huh? Heh, heh." he just got up and started strolling. Humming a tune as he bounced around before taking off.

He zipped by her, making her spin around a bit and hold her dress down. "HEY!"

"That's what I said! I'm claiming copyright!" he called back, making fun of her as he sped on, laughing.

She growled out another angry 'grr' before dropping her arms down from shaking and thinking all was lost…

until…

She lifted her head up, thinking up an idea.

Sonic slowed down, looking at the scenery with a big go-lucky grin on his face before a shadow passed over him. "Huh? What?" he looked at his hands and his body, seeing the shadow pass as he glanced up, seeing pink and red… swinging by. "What the-!?"

"YEEAHHHHH-WHOOO!" Amy had slammed her hammer down on the ground with a running start, leaping over miles as she did so, and leaving her actually IN THE LEAD ahead of Sonic!

"No way!"

"YEAH WAY!" she hollered back, slamming her hammer down again as she started getting closer to the ground, "Heyup!"

"Well now…~ Heh. This just got interesting!" he smiled, feeling Amy might of just actually presented a challenge he could take seriously now, and bolted forward.

The pleasant shores rustled lightly against the wind as the bushes and palm tress swayed. Birds were resting comfortably before a large boom was heard, and then another, as a mother bird had to leave her nest as Amy flew down from above, and Sonic leaped forward as they both rolled and hit the shore around the same time.

They ended up landing on each other at one point too, and rolling into the waves.

"Ack! Ugh! Pah-tooie! Water! AH! I'm in WATER!" Sonic saw the small waves below him and started freaking out, spitting out the water in his mouth and rushing to the land.

As his hand reached for the shore, Amy's foot stomped right in front of him, and he slowly looked up.

She was huffing and puffing, glaring down with a serious expression, before falling to her knees and letting the water wash up on her legs.

"It's no use. I saw you touch the shore before I hit and we started rolling… you win." she kept her head down, and felt disappointed that she STILL couldn't get her date.

Sonic slowly lifted himself off the ground and looked at her, his expression one of curiosity, and absolutely no hate or mocking whatsoever.

"Are you serious? You were a few seconds behind me! That's a victory even in it's own right!"

Amy's head shot up, looking up at him.

"Amy… I had FUN!" he laughed, letting his back fall into the shallow water again. "I mean, I thought I'd just speed by and ask you to forget the whole date and just forgive me. But DANG! That was some swell thinking! Did you have that in mind or was that spontaneous? Haha! My heart was racing, man!"

Amy slowly began to let out spurts of laughter, before covering her mouth and trying not to cry.

Sonic… had fun with her.

He…. enjoyed her company and… his heart was racing…

"..Hah…ha…" he looked at her face, and suddenly his fun was gone from his face. "Hey, you're not gonna cry are ya?" he suddenly got up, reaching for her face and arms but not actually touching her. "Hey, hey, come on now. I'll still go on a date with you, but just chill out, alright? I give my favor to you as long as you don't have me plan the whole thing, alright?"

Amy giggled, having small tears form before she wiped them away, and nodded. "My treat." she chimed.

"Oh good." he let his head fall, and she laughed. "Thanks for the race, Amy…. I can honestly say this without sarcasm." he got up, and outstretched his hand to her, as she looked up at him, completely smitten by his charm.

"I'm really looking forward to our date. Whenever it may be, I'll be there. This time, I'll make sure to keep my word. No taksie backsies." he grinned.

"…You didn't break the last promise… because you're still going on a date with me!" she jumped into his arms, and he fell back, taken off guard, as she landed on him as he kicked in the shallow water, begging her to 'calm down' and 'take it easy' while she laughed on him as he stated, "Heh, silly girl."
