Prompt:
Shadow stood upon the Space Colony Ark, and folded his arms, looking down over the earth.
He held his peace, as his mind throbbed with memory flashes.
Maria… her warm smile as she described the earth,…. but before that… what had occurred?
He squinted his eyes, straining for some form of memory.
"Shadow?"
Shadow opened his eyes, almost convinced the voice wasn't there.
He turned around.
Amy stood, and suddenly his eyes widened as memory returned to him.
"Shadow?"
Shadow turned around, "Maria? You were told to rest." He unfolded his arms, almost out of respect.
She giggled, and walked slowly up to him, her hands out together in front of her, hanging down gently as she smiled to him. "I wanted to see Earth once more. So that when I close my eyes… I can watch it in my dreams." She looked up, showing such love he couldn't comprehend in her eyes as she stared at it.
"The world… is so beautiful, Shadow. So full of promise and wonder… just like you." she then turned to him, and her smile beamed like sunrays.
How could she look at both the body of mass and water, … then look to him with the same look of awe and love?
"…I don't understand." Shadow admitted, and turned away, as if ashamed or embarrass to admit that to her. "I can't see how something so different and distant could be so treasured." It was unreachable to him. Meaning unfathomable.
She seemed understanding, and nodded, "One day, Shadow. You'll also have memories."
He looked back to her.
"And those memories…" her voice drifted off as she turned back to stare a minute more at the slow rotating planet she called home. "…Will last with you. And you'll cherish them. And you'll never want to lose them."
She then bent down and placed her hands on her knees. "Promise me, Shadow? You won't forget a single moment you've ever had with me?"
"I… I will try, Maria." Shadow leaned back, but nodded, as though a knight to a princess.
She tilted her head, and giggled. "Good. Trying is enough. This life is all about striving for the better. It's not meant to be remembered in shame and strife. But for the joys of living, and the love of life."
The memory faded as fast as it came.
"Shadow?" Amy held a closed hand up to her chest.
He stared at her, before turning away. "I have no intention of leaving this place."
She frowned, before Tails and Sonic came charging in.
"Amy!"
"He said he won't leave." Amy looked sorrowful, turning to her friends as Shadow closed his eyes.
Now all their voices were annoying…
He just wanted to stay here… quietly…
"Shadow! G.U.N's trapped your mind in a simulator to control your body outside your consciousness!"
Shadow's eyes widened, and he turned around. "What!?"
"You have to get out of here!" Sonic stepped forward, showing he may use force if that wasn't convincing enough.
Tails nodded to him and spoke again, looking to Shadow, "Please, Shadow! We can't control the chaos your using! It's going to destroy everything!"
"..Everything..?" He looked down, thinking of Maria.
Amy then stepped forward, and lightly took a chance to reach for him, but hesitated as he looked up, and smiled to him.
"Shadow… I know this is like your home. But Earth is where it all started, right? It's Maria's home."
Shadow felt a shaken noise get stuck in his throat, as his heart was pricked at her words…
She took a second chance… and placed her hand on his shoulder.
Both Tails and Sonic looked amazed by her bold approach, and looked to each other, before back to her.
"Will you go? Can you do it, Shadow?"
He looked down, not reacting to her movement.
"…" he closed his eyes.
"Shadow…" the angelic voice rang in Amy's stead…
"..I will defend this world." he rose his head, full of resolve. "It's what Maria would have wanted."
He then removed Amy's hand, "Even from me." he gave her a softer look than she was used too, but it made her happy to see he wouldn't fight them on doing what was right.
He looked to Tails. "What do I do?"
"There's actually a type of mental 'off-switch' within this illusion! But it may be emotionally straining…"
"Show me." Shadow narrowed his eyes.
"Right." Tails looked determined to succeed, and held his fists out together, parallel to the other, and ran off to show him where to go, as he followed.
Amy went to follow, before she was stopped by Sonic's hand. "Wait..!"
Amy turned around, a little shocked, "Huh?"
He smiled to her, "You sure know how to get a man going. What was with that 'pat on the back', back there?"
He took his hand back and folded his arms, just curious.
Amy tilted her head, not sure why he was curious, but smiled sweetly to him, hanging back to speak with him.
"Everyone needs a gentle push." Amy chimed. "I figured… he was really happy here.. with things he was used to seeing." she looked down, trying to empathize with Shadow. "He probably felt very peaceful here… like it was his own personal haven… Here… was where his heart is."
Sonic watched her explanation, and nodded in understanding.
"I see… you sure do understand people's hearts, Amy." he gave her a thumbs up. "Nice job!"
She loved the praise! And hopped a little from side to side before nodding and giggling. Her hands in fists up by her face, looking cute.
"Alright, let's go help Shadow get out of here!" He waved her on and ran past her, as she was a little surprised he took off without her, but knew he was expecting her to keep up.
She took off after him, her usual swaying run that Sonic would make fun silently to himself.
(That was fun :3 Pretty canon too, expect for maybe Sonic stopping Amy? -I'm iffy about Sonic's first words to her x- But other than that! I approve XD)
