I got inspired.

Amy fidgeted as she held both her hands out in front of her, keeping them together in the cooling chill of the Chao Garden's air, coming off from the waterfall.
She looked to it quickly, before putting her hands on her arms and shivering slightly.
Looking down, she remembered Sonic's promise to meet her there, but it was getting so late…
Undaunted by that unappealing thought, she puffed up a cheek in offense at such a horrible thought, and shook her head.
Suddenly, a few footsteps were heard from the cave's entrance, as she turned around, "Sonic!" She jumped into his arms, having been pleasantly surprised by his arrival, and glad he had finally made it.
"Heh, Sorry, Amy. I had an old run in with Shadow and it was hard to 'break away' if you know what I mean." He nervously let her hug her worries out before letting him go.
Since the Adventures ended, Shadow and Sonic still had their old competitive spark to fight one another and test their strengths and abilities. Always trying to prove the other more superior.
Amy shook her head, "Em-mm. That's okay! I'm just glad you made it safe!" she smiled, her eyes closed and her hands up and together, as if thanking a silent prayer for being answered.
He smiled back too, rubbing the back of his head before nodding.
The Chaos were fast asleep as the two walked the garden, talking and giggling in silence as they spent the night air conversing of their perilous adventures and each side of their stories.

Summary: What would it take to get Sonic to hold Amy's hand..?
Prompt:
It was quiet, but after all that had gone done, it could have been considered too quiet.
"We're heading out!" Tails called, getting some of the citizens that were attack into his plane, and helping them to come back to the city they just rescued, as Sonic and Amy had helped board the last few passengers safely.
When Sonic waved the plane off, he seemed about to head off again.
"Wait!"
Sonic slowed his step, and seemed to wait to listen to what she had to say.
"…You… I know you're upset that I didn't do as you said… But I… I knew if I stayed in the city… you wouldn't let those people's homes be destroyed! You would have fought! Even if they didn't want you too.." she looked away, putting her hands close up to herself.
"I'm sorry… but I knew if I stayed… you'd come and protect the city… to protect me."
Sonic tightened a fist.
"I understand if you're upset with me… but please… understand why I had to do it…"
She knew he felt betrayed, a little used, and certainly went through a lot of trouble just to find out she had purposefully stayed behind.
She dropped her hands and her head, as the wind blew their quills back a bit… and off to the side.
"…Amy." he turned around, walking straight to her, eyes as serious and focused as ever, before standing right in front of her, and closing his eyes.
Amy looked up, scanning his expression to try and get a read on him.
"…Do you know.. do you know how I felt… seeing you fall from the plane?" he kept his head down, fists shaking. "I thought I failed you, Amy… and I wasn't going to allow you get hurt… if there was anything I could do about it… I would." he nodded his head, a violent shake, really.
Amy looked down again, putting her hands together, and nodded. "I'm sorry."
"…You shouldn't be."
He reached out and grabbed her hand, pulling her along with him.
"Ah-! Wha..? Sonic? Where are we-?" she was stumbling behind him as he pulled, not sure what was happening, before he spoke up again.
"You did what I wasn't willing to do on my own. I wasn't willing to save a city if the people themselves refused my help. But you were right, Amy. I should have helped even when I wasn't wanted." he turned around, stopping abruptly, and causing Amy to bump into him.
He put a hand to her arm, helping her to not fall completely back from the impact.
"…Thank you."
They were out of the clearing, hidden under the forest's trees…
She looked around, "..S.. Sonic?"
He smiled to her, keeping his hand clutching her own… before having one final squeeze, and letting it go.
"But don't do that again. It really scared the living daylights out of me!" he laughed, pulling away from her, as she realized how much he had really worried about her safety…
She smiled then too, and nodded, "I can't make any promises Sonic."
He stopped laughing a moment, a hand on his head and stomach, before looking back at her, as if surprised to hear her contradict him.
She slowly closed her eyes, "But I will always do what I feel is right." she then opened her eyes, and gave him a sweet and tender look.
He straightened himself out, and nodded, staying silent as he looked away. "Right… just-" he looked back at her, pausing a moment again, as if not able to say what he really wanted too.
"Take care of yourself."
"Will do!" she beamed, and took his arm, "Now come on!" She tugged, Tails will be looking for us next!" she pulled him back into the open hilly plain, as Sonic stumbled behind her, wobbling, but smiled up to her, seeing how things were back to how they were meant to be~
