sherrydoodlez asked:

Hi queen. So um what's your take on Boom Shadow's back story? He's so vaguely written in the boom universe, can you give us some good headcanons? Is he similar to Modern Shadow? Does his dislike for "friends" have something to do with losing a friend? Give me the goods 👀

cutegirlmayra answered:

It's been a long time since I've looked into Boom, lololol It was a hot minute of 'something' for us all, and I think I appreciate it because of that.

For this reason, I'll do my very best with making a Boom!Shadow past, forgive me if it seems like a comedic stretch ^^;

It at least explains things like why he's on the island and stuff.

PROMPTS ARE ON SHUTDOWN, DON'T SEND ANY TO ME PLEASE!

Prompt:

"I can't…" Sonic looked deep into Shadow's eyes, a serious expression on his face as Shadow's core seemed to break, finding this to be a betrayal.

"… You're weak…" He glared, as Sonic looked down, having found his own resolve in deciding to save his friends. "YOU'RE WEAK! I'll never forgive you for this… Sonic, the hedgehog!" A large blast of chaos burst from Shadow… Sonic was later celebrated as a hero, which infuriated Shadow even the more so…

To him, there was never an end to the world's injustice, and he vowed to make sure Sonic never forgot his betrayal…

To Shadow, Sonic had chosen the wrong path… instead of helping Shadow avenge the little girl…

Who had only wanted a Vacation.

"Isn't this wonderful, Shadow?" A little girl in a n old-timey, blue summer dress held her wide-rim hat and smiled down to him, holding a bucket with some beach toys in it as she looked around the island, excited to finally be back on earth again.

"Remember, Maria… Your treatments…" Shadow cautioned, "This planet isn't safe for you to-"

"Oh, don't worry about me, Shadow!" She turned back and smiled warmly to him, "This is a Vacation! It means to leave all your worries behind and just destress." She took in a deep breath, then coughed violently.

"Ah… Maria, I told you!" he held up his hands to catch her bent body, but she just smiled at him, covering her mouth.

"N-no, it's just the sea air… I'm not used to it… that's all." She got, weakly, back up. "Grandfather's spaceship was so cramped…" she looked sorrowfully down.

"And desolate…" Shadow clenched a fist, glaring to it harshly. "They stopped his experiments and called them abominations! Abominations? Heh, I'm the ultimate lifeform…"

She giggled, which seemed to offend him as he jolted a bit and looked at her, appalled.

"What's wrong with stating what I am?" He questioned her, and she patted his head, rubbing it affectionately as though a sister.

"We're gonna leave that old past behind us now, Shadow… And enjoy our vacation!" she chimed, racing down towards the beach, "Haha! Come on!"

"Maria!" He stretched a hand out to her, worried… Such exercise wasn't good on her body… "If she trips, the sand will get in her eyes… then I'll have to deal with her crying…" He muttered, but… there was a hint of love in his mumbled statement.

He casually walked down to the shore and folded his arms and stood like a bodyguard on a mission, he didn't join her in her sandcastle activities.

"Shadow," She looked behind her, "Come play!" She tugged gently on his gloved part of his wrist.

"Hmph, I don't have time to play such silly games with you. There could be danger on this planet. I'm standing guard, keeping watch over any suspicious activity…" He narrowed his sights to the jungles…

The world, to Shadow, wasn't all that different… Back then, there were still threats, and still wicked, heartless people out there just waiting to cause more suffering to Maria…

Maria was everything to him… his entire world rests upon her health, safety, and happiness…

But…

What was happiness?

He looked over his shoulder, seeing her smile had lessened somewhat but never was removed from her face. He had never seen her frown… so he did it for her.

She had ever reason to be upset, but she never seemed so. Always hopeful, cheery, pleasant with her painful treatments… it sickened him.

He turned around and started to help with the sandcastle, "You're doing it wrong. It's like this, make the base a structure… See that?" he had a little mound. "Science." It suddenly deflated and rolled down to a pile of sand again. His arms came down, "Ohh…"

Maria giggled, as he looked over to her, a bit harshly.

"What's so funny?"

"That was the ultimate tutorial!" she laughed more openly, as he got up and kicked the sand, showing his frustrations. "O-oh, no, don't do that!" she put her hand to his arm, "See? Even when we fail sometimes…" she started to dip some water from her pail that she scooped from the bucket. "We can always just try again… and again, and again… until at last-!" she mimicked his arms parting to show the now–perfect–sand spire for her castle.

He watched and huffed, turning away, "It's… adequate."

"And will you be my prince of the castle, Shadow?" Maria's gentle question surprised him… he didn't feel he was very princely… whatever a prince was meant to be…

But he would protect her… he thought he would protect her… he wished he could have protected her…

Flames corrupted the memory…

Shadow was walking out of a government institution, holding in his hand a vile, and looked as though he had gone to war and back… the building exploded behind him with men crying out for their lives.

Then a small voice, "I'm okay!"

Shadow stopped, and looked to the side, zipping off before coming back to his slow, awesomely cool walk.

"Ow! I'm definitely not okay now!"

Shadow… finally smiled, "Hmph."

Before this…

"I'm sorry! It's just that… well, the industry is being pretty stingy about giving us small villages any appropriate medicines besides the case of common colds and things of that nature… And I'm afraid that even though you could afford the medicine, we just don't have any in our supply… I'm so sorry." The village doctor spoke as though it was tragic, as though Maria would have to be moved to the city…

Shadow stepped in front of Maria, who looked down as though losing hope, but her smile never left her, "I under- Ah! Shadow!" she cried out as he gripped the doctor's jacket ends by her neck, hoisting her up.

"Now, you listen to me, Doctor Obvious. If Maria doesn't get those treatments, she'll lose her smile, and if she loses her smile, I'll-!"

"Shadow, please!" Maria reached for him but suddenly fell down from the chair and started coughing into her hand.

He let the doctor go and turned to look back at her, "Maria!" he bent to her side, trying to hold her, but feeling pathetically useless to help save her.

"T-there… is a factory." The doctor rubbed his neck and stood back, catching his breath and bracing against the back of his small hut. "You could always ask them?"

Shadow looked up, "Oh, I'll do all the asking." He tightened his fist.

50 years had passed since Maria's passing… Shadow had collapsed and become a recluse in a cave… When the G.U.N soldiers came to arrest him for how many institutions he had robbed medicines for to try and save her life…

"She would have died, anyway, sir.", "It's just not possible to save her in this state.", "Even with the medicine and treatments now, she's far too weak to even swallow them… I think it's time to let her go, Shadow…"

He hid from the government… until he met Sonic The Hedgehog.

Another loner, like himself?

Arrogant and cocky,… but he could use that.

The two formed an unlikely 'duo', but they were nowhere considered friends.

Sonic was a rebel without a cause, and so Shadow could easily manipulate him and taught him better control of his speed.

Sonic learned from Shadow but Shadow also learned from Sonic, they were an unlikely pair, but that all changed… all the 'hero work' that Sonic thought he was doing came to an end when it was revealed that Sonic was only helping Shadow's bigger… ultimate plan…

He was going to take down the government… starting on the small island.

Sonic had met his friends by then, and they were being threatened by Eggman, who Shadow didn't mind because Eggman was the perfect distraction while he snuck in and destroyed G.U.N resources.

"I can't be apart of your revenge anymore, Shadow." It was truly Sonic who felt betrayed, but also… he had found a new path.

He left to pursue being a hero and good friend… but first, he really didn't know how to get along with his newfound 'team of friends', being so used to Shadow's discipline and aloof nature, he had just naturally stuck to himself regardless.

From then on… it was no doctors, no government rule… but Shadow's terms that only mattered…

Morals were irrelevant and a waste of time, friends were weaknesses best left to the dust of power's wake, and Sonic…

He was an injustice, a false hero… who had to be dealt with…

Sonic was nothing more than a foe that needed to be eradicated… if Shadow's 50-year planning could ever truly happen… And just added to his revenge as another obstacle towards true justice… For Sonic had stopped him one too many times in his chaotic quest… to destroy those who took Maria's smile…

Forever…
