Chapter 35: Sunset picnic (Last chapter)

Later after Diane made the phone call to arrange a meetup, we now cut to Mr. Wolf who was sitting all by himself at a picnic table in a large empty public park patiently waiting for Diane like he was supposed to.

"*Sigh* Sure is taking her a while." Wolf said to himself as he patiently tapped his fingers on the wooden table

Mr. Wolf was about to take out his phone to give Diane a call until the familiar voice of the said fox got his attention.

"Hey there Wolf." Diane said

Wolf looked beside himself to find Diane walking up to him with a concerned look on her face.

"Oh hello there Diane. Come take a seat." Wolf greeted back

Diane proceeds to take a seat on the picnic table facing across from wolf.

"Sorry that the others couldn't make it. They were busy." Wolf said referring to the rest of the gang

"It's okay Wolf. I understand." Diane said as she petted the back of her head

"So umm how are things?" Wolf said with a thin caring smile

"*Sigh* Not too good. Poor Jet is still shaken up from the big showdown we had with Marmalade. He just can't get that insane little guinea pig off his mind." Diane explained sadly

"And so I figured. I totally understand Diane. You're kid didn't deserve what he went through. He deserves better." Wolf assured

"Thank you Wolf. Now the reason I wanted to meetup with you is because I can't think of any other ways to help my baby feel better and recover from such a tragic event." Diane frowned

"Sure you can Diane. Not only are you the most caring and pretty fox i've ever met, you are also the smartest and wisest." Wolf smiled as he took Diane's hands and held them tenderly

"I appreciate you believing in me Wolf but I tried almost everything. I let him sleep with me every night, I snuggle him every chance I get, I try playing his favorite games with him, even making his favorite food...but to no avail." Diane said

"Oh...Well have you tried looking for a therapist? That's usually the last resort." Wolf asked

"Well I thought of it but...I don't think it would do much help to just sit and talk with someone on a couch. Jet needs more than that." Diane said sadly

The two sat is silence brainstorming with Wolf caringly squeezing and caressing Diane's hands until he gets an idea look on his face.

"...Hey I know!" Wolf said

"Hmm?" Diane perked up

"Why don't we go on a pleasant picnic together for the rest of the evening? We could play in the grass and watch the sunset. Just you, me, and your kid. I am sure that spending time with not one but two caring adults would definitely help the little pup feel better and smiling again." Wolf happily suggested

"...You really think so Wolf? Will that work?" Diane asked softly

"Only one way to find out." Wolf said with a wink

Diane contemplated for a bit before coming to an agreement with Wolf's idea.

"Alright Wolf, that does sound delightful. We can do that. We will get things ready first and pick up Jet from school later on and we go from there." Diane smiled

"Perfect! Sounds like a plan." Wolf agreed

With that, Mr. Wolf gets up from the picnic table and helps Diane stand up before bringing her against his body in a warm caring hug. Diane wraps her arms around Wolf gladly hugging him back.

"Everything is going to be alright Diane. I'm always around to help you no matter the situation." Mr. Wolf assured as he nuzzled the top of Diane's head

"Thank you so much Wolf. I deeply appreciate it. You are too sweet." Diane whispered as she sank deeper into the embrace and tenderly nuzzled her face against Wolf's chest

The two love birds hugged each other while smiling for a good minute before seperating.

"Well then, shall we go get ready for a wholesome evening with your kid?" Wolf smiled

"We shall." Diane smiled back

Diane and Wolf proceed to walk out of the park together hand in hand to go get things ready for the sunset picnic.

Later in the evening

We now cut to Jet who was making his way out of pre-school with many other kids after getting dismissed for the day. Poor Jet was walking with his head slumped down as he held the shoulder straps of his backpack while all the other animal kids ran excitedly past him. Jet kept walking until reaching the main front door and was out of the building.

"Oh Jet! Right here sweetie!" A familiar motherly voice called making Jet perk his head up

Jet looked towards his right to see Diane happily waving at him while standing next to a familiar black muscle car on the curb with Mr. Wolf in the driver seat. Jet instantly recognized the car as he rushed over to his adoptive mom.

"Hello there pumpkin! Where's my hug!" Diane smiled brightly as she knelt down with her arms open

"Hi Mommy." Jet said as he went up to Diane and allowed her to squeeze him in a big loving embrace

"How was your day in school sweetie?" Diane asked as she stood back up holding her pup in her arms

"Ummm it was okay. I tried my best to be happy like you said." Jet said as he embraced lightly back

"Well I am proud to hear that." Diane said before planting a quick kiss on her son's forehead

"Umm Mommy, is that Mr. Wolf?" Jet asked pointing to the familiar figure in the driver seat of the muscle car

With that, Mr. Wolf turns around on cue and lowers his sunglasses while flashing a bright smile to Jet.

"Hello again kiddo! Your ride awaits!" Wolf greeted like a charming friendly chauffeur

Jet was now curious on why his adoptive mom came with Wolf to pick him up.

"Now Jet, I know you're wondering why I have Mr. Wolf here with me, well it's because we have something special planned just for you this evening. Something to bring the joy back into your little heart." Diane smiled

"Really? What is it?" Jet asked with keen interest

"*giggles* We'll tell you on the way sweetie."

Diane then proceeds to help Jet remove his backpack and toss it in the backseat before getting in the car in the passenger seat with her pup sitting comfortably on her lap. Wolf gives Jet a quick friendly tousle on his head before starting up the car and driving away from the pre-school and en-route to their picnic location.

20 minutes into the drive, Diane and Wolf both explained their whole picnic plan to Jet which caused him to get a little bit excited like he didn't have a worry in the world much to Diane's delight.

"We're really having a picnic?" Jet asked

"That is correct my kiddo! A sunset picnic with your mommy foxy and Mr. Wolfy just for you!" Diane cooed while nuzzling her pup

"*chuckles* I haven't had a picnic ever since me and the guys ate lunch together on top of a pile of gold bricks back in our criminal days." Mr. Wolf brought up

"Well my thevious wolfious, today you get to have a picnic on a nice blanket over soft grass." Diane said

"Cannot wait." Wolf responded

Eventually Diane, Wolf, and Jet finally reach their isolated picnic location witch was a large private grassy hill located North of Los Angeles and close to the ocean shoreline. The private grassy area was nice and fresh with a few bushes and trees here and there. Mr. Wolf parks the muscle car in a flat discreet spot on the grass before shutting off the engine and getting out of his seat followed by Diane and Jet.

"Well here we are sweetie. What do you think?" Diane asked her pup

Jet looks around and takes in the wonderful sight of the grassy picnic spot with the ocean almost in sight. The fresh smell of the area caused Jet to beam up a little with his tail gently swishing left and right.

"This...This look so nice and quiet." Jet commented

"Indeed. Well go on Jet! Explore around!" Diane encouraged

With that, Jet began running around exploring the whole area with his happy go lucky childish traits slowly coming back more.

Meanwhile Mr. Wolf had popped open the trunk of his car and began unloading the the picnic stuff. A large sitting blanket, a basket containing snacks and meals, a cooler containing sodas and juices, and a few pillows to relax with.

15 minutes later

After having everything all laid out and set up, the three were all sitting down having a nice picnic meal all together. Mr. Wolf munched on some fried chicken, Diane enjoyed some mango fruits whilte Jet happily ate egg salad sandwiches.

"*sigh* I wish I had thought of this during my free time from my governing duties." Diane smiled

"Well then you should be thanking me since I gave you the idea." Wolf said before giving Diane a wink

After eating their main courses, they each enjoyed some blueberry pie slices along with some jello for dessert. With their tummies satisfied, Wolf and Diane got off the picnic blanket and started playing around the large area with Jet like two parents bonding with their child.

"We're gonna get ya Jet! You better keep running!" Diane smiled as she pretended to be a dinosaur playfully chasing after Jet who was her prey

Mr. Wolf was also playing along as he chased alongside Diane.

"Rawr! There's no way you can outrun two raptors buddy!" Mr. Wolf growled playfully

"Oh No! Someone help!" Jet screamed in playful distress as he kept running from his pursuers

Suddenly Jet accidentally trips over and falls down on the grass allowing Wolf and Diane to finally get down on him and start attacking him with tickles and nuzzles.

"Rawr! We finally got our prey!" Wolf said as he playfully started tickling Jet on his stomach while Diane buried her muzzle into his neck

"TEEHEHEHEHEHE! HEHEHAHAHA! WAHAHAHAHA!" Jet giggled his heart out as he squirmed around under the hold of his attackers

Suddenly Wolf stopped his tickling.

"Hey Diane, do you realize something!?" Wolf asked

"Huh? Is something wrong Wolf?" Diane asked in concern

"No nothing's wrong! Look down at your kid!" Wolf smiled

Diane looked down at Jet who was happily recovering from the tickling.

"I'm not following Wolf. What about Jet?" Diane asked confused

"We just got him smiling again!" Wolf happily pointed out due to Jet's sheer giggling

"*Gasp!* Oh my! I didn't even realize it! That means our plan was a success!" Diane said while smiling big

"EXACTLY!" Wolf bashed out in joy

"Ummm excuse me, may I have more nuzzles please?" Jet kindly requested getting Diane's attention again

"Oh? *giggles* Sure thing sweety. Nuzzy Nuzzy Nuzzy!" Diane cooed as she resumed her nuzzling on Jet's face and neck while Mr. Wolf resumed his tickling. This time moving down to the pup's toe beans.

"Time for a little foot treatment!" Wolf said as he tickled Jet's paws

"SQUEEEHEHEHEHE! SO MUHUHUHUHUCH TICKIEHEHEHEHES!" Jet squealed

"*giggles* You're a giggly little pupper aren't you!" Diane smiled

Later after their tickle attack, the three played a few different games around the area and had more fun together before winding down back on the picnic blanket to get ready for the sunset. The three were now huddled up together and relaxing on the blanket. Wolf and Diane were sitting leaning against each other with an extra warm blanket draped over their shoulders while Jet sat on his adoptive mom's lap as they all faced directly at the ocean in the distance.

It was currently starting to get dark as the sun started slowly setting down the ocean horizon like the happy trio wanted.

"*sigh* This is so wonderful." Diane softly commented as she happily watched the sunset

"Indeed it is. Makes you believe that life will always be a gift." Wolf smiled

"That is a big bright sun." Jet commented

"Yeah well in just 30 more minutes, it won't be bright anymore pretty soon." Diane said

Eventually the sun finally set all the way down leaving a glorious sight before vanishing out of sight behind the ocean leaving the sky purplish and concluding the picnic.

"Wowee." Jet said in amazement

"Aaaand she's gone." Mr. Wolf said

"That was so beautiful. I should come out here more often." Diane smiled

"Yep. Watching a sunset can be a better therapy session." Wolf said

"Well Jet what did you think?...Jet?"

Diane looks down to find her pup had suddenly fallen asleep with his eyes closed while snuggled up warmly in her arms.

"Oh well would you look at that. Someone is all tuckered out." Mr. Wolf smiled

"*Sigh* Well Wolf, not only is my precious little fur bundle feeling better again, he is also sleeping peacefully without a worry in the world." Diane smiled

"I bet he missed being able to sleep like that." Wolf said

Later after packing everything up and leaving the picnic spot, Mr. Wolf was now driving Diane and her pup all the way back to their home with the sky now being pitch dark. As Diane rode in the passenger seat cradling her sleeping pup in her lap, she and Wolf exchanged satisfied proud looks with each other as the car smoothly rolled on through the empty lit up streets.

Finally they reached back home with Wolf pulling up and parking right in front of Diane's house.

"*Sigh* Thanks for the ride Wolf." Diane said as she was slowly getting tired herself

"My pleasure dear." Wolf smiled before shutting off the car

They both get out of the car and stand together on the sidewalk as Jet slowly started to wake back up in Diane's arms.

"Mmmm Mommy...A-Are we home yet?" Jet asked in a groggy tone with his eyes half closed

"We sure are sweetie. Why don't you say goodbye to Mr. Wolf before I get you ready for bed."

Diane whispered before she handed Jet over to Wolf.

"I hope you had a happy go lucky time with us kiddo. You gets some well deserved sleep and i'll see you around. Ya hear?" Wolf whispered as he hugged Jet close over his shoulder

"*Yawns* Yes...Goodbye Daddy." Jet mumbled right as he fell back asleep against Wolf's shoulder

Upon hearing the 'D' word, Mr. Wolf's pupil's shrank and his fur stood up out of sheer surprise. Diane was also tensed up as she also heard Jet spit out the word in his sleep.

Wolf and Diane were both still and silent blushing deep red while trying to process Jet's words.

"Oh...Oh my." Diane finally muttered

"He really said that did he. I'm not hearing things am I?" Wolf asked

Wolf and Diane looked at each other before finally accepting what they heard and slowly breaking out into silent giggles.

"*giggles* Oh dear! *giggles* I can't believe he called you that!" Diane giggled

"*chuckles* Me neither! *chuckles*" Wolf chuckled

After their quiet giggling, Wolf carefully hands Jet back to Diane without waking him.

"Wolf, can you wait out here please while I go get Jet tucked in?" Diane requested

"Oh, sure thing Diane."

With that, Diane walks all the way into her home to get Jet ready for bed.

"Wow. Jet really called me Daddy. I guess I have the material for it." Wolf said in his thoughts

Once inside Jet's bedroom, Diane proceeds to change her pup into his pajamas and gently tuck him into his bed before heading back outside to Mr. Wolf who was patiently leaning against his car.

"Well Wolf before you head home for the night, I just wanna thank you so much again for this really nice evening and for helping my pup feel better again. I feel so blessed to have you as my partner." Diane thanked as she gently grabbed Wolf by his hands

"You have no idea how happy I am to be of help Diane." Wolf smiled

"Really Wolf, I could not have done this without you tonight...I think you deserve more than just a simple thank you from me." Diane as she lovingly gazed right into Wolf's eyes

"Oh really." Wolf said as he gazed back

There was silence in the air as the two held each other's hands and lovingly gazed at each other's bright eyes before Wolf picked up on where Diane was getting at. So without a word, the adult male canine brings his right hand up and ever so gently caresses Diane's face causing her to smile lightly. Next thing that happens is Diane brings her right around Wolf and slowly pulls him towards herself until there lips softly made contact. Before you know, Wolf and Diane were full on kissing romantically with their eyes closed in pure love and bliss as they were both lost in their own world together without a care.

Meanwhile back at the hideout

"OMG! THEY ARE FINALLY KISSING!" Tarantula squeeled as she watched

"I don't believe it! I gotta bite myself to see if I'm dreaming!" Mr. Snake added

Unknown to Wolf and Diane, the rest of the bad guys back at the hideout were secretly watching the whole kissing scene through video feed from a small dash cam mounted on the car pointing directly at the two love birds. They were viewing the video feed through a large laptop on the dining table.

"Way to go Amigo! Kiss that senora!" Piranha cheered

"SQUEEE! This is the happiest moment of my life!" Mr. Shark squeeled

Unfortunately for the bad guys, Mr. Wolf knew about the dash cam. So without taking his lips off of Diane, he reaches into his back pocket and takes out a large handkerchief rag before tossing into the car and making it land right on top of the litte device completely covering it and blocking everything out of view much to the bad guys dismay.

"What the?" Piranha exclaimed

"OH COME ON!" Snake groaned

"Awww but I wanted to see more!" Shark whined

"Hey guys, I think we should let them have their privacy. Let's do something until Wolf comes back." Tarantula said as she closed the laptop

Meanwhile

Wolf and Diane finally part from their kiss.

"Wow. That was the best thank you ever. I always wondered how your lips tasted." Wolf smiled

"*giggles* Well know you know. Anyways I'll see you around handsome. Drive home safe." Diane said giving Wolf one last big hug before retreating back to her house

"Yeah take care my darling." Wolf waved goodbye before hopping back in his car and driving off out of sight

Before going to get herself ready for bed, Diane goes back into Jet's room to find her precious pup still sleeping soundly like a baby. Diane knelt down next to the bed to give her pup soft pets on his head and a tender kiss on his cheek like the proud mother she is before whispering...

"Sweet dreams sweetie. I'll see you in the morning."
