Short and sweet ofc while I try to figure out what to do next. Do you guys want this new murder mystery story now or later? :)

When they arrived home, Sam made the phone call to Roz. Even though he was no longer a player and he was defending his wife, this still would look bad on the team. A part of him felt bad for letting those players get him that worked up, but he also felt a sense of pride because he was defending his wife's honor. When he made it to his office, he called Roz, ignoring the millions of other messages that were spawning on his home screen.

"Mike, I already told me. I am pulling the security camera footage, and we are about to release a statement." Roz spoke.

Sam pulled the phone back and looked at it, "You aren't mad?"

Roz sighed, "Sam when you were a player I got mad at you for being anger over stupid things. But you were defending your wife; your Black wife was insulted by a bunch of players who can't handle a loss. Not to mention, I know what happened with Marty earlier. I am not mad at you at all. You still have your job, and we will be releasing a statement, and this entire thing will blow over. Kiss my baby for me."

Sam smiled, "Will do." When they hung up, Sam felt a huge release lift off his shoulders. He loved that Roz had his back even after all these years had passed. He was about o go find his wife when she came in the office and handed him a ice pack. However, she didn't speak. In fact, her face was cast downwards, and she looked to be pissed off.

Carefully, Sam asked, "What's wrong? Roz said this will all be fine and that everything will blow over in our favor."

"That's great, Sam." Mercedes sighed as she kept her gaze on everything but Sam.

"Merce, baby, look at me. Don't let those assholes get to you."

"Sam, I am not worried about them. This isn't the first time something like this has happened to me. I am upset because you let them bring back the Sam that you worked so hard not to bring back. All you had to do was walk away." Mercedes argued.

Sam looked at her, confused, "I was defending you, and I would do the same exact thing over and over. No one is going to disrespect you or our daughter and get away with it, Mercedes."

"Sam, you could go to prison for defending us. Do you not remember what happened with Spencer?" Mercedes argued.

Sam rolled his eyes, "Why does that even matter?"

Mercedes threw up her hands and stormed out of the office with Sam behind her, "It means that I do not want to explain to our daughter why her father is on the news for breaking someone's face. Racist people exist, Sam, and you don't get to throw a punch every time a racist remark is thrown towards me or Infinity."

"Bullshit, I don't. It is my job to protect the woman I love and my daughter." They had moved their argument to their bedroom, and Mercedes stood on her side of the bed while Sam stood on the opposite. Neither one of them had plans to relent from this argument anytime soon.

"And what good are you going to do protecting us if something happens to you, Sam? I don't care about them. There are millions of people who have said much worse through a fucking screen. There have been people who have made it their life mission to speak negatively about me, even if they come to an event of mine. I am not asking you to protect me from them."

"Because you don't have to. I am your husband, and you are my wife. And I can have a little bit of slack because I have managed to keep my temper in check since the Spencer incident, and that has seemed like a lifetime ago." Sam pointed out.

"Sam, you assaulted two players!"

"BECAUSE I WAS DEFENDING MY WIFE! IF YOU CAN NOT HANDLE THAT THEN MAYBE YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE AGREED TO MARRY ME!" Sam roared. He grabbed his jacket and slammed the door behind him. Mercedes flopped on the bed and threw her head in her hands.

"Goddamit." She whispered to herself.

Sam didn't mean to scream at his wife, but he was just so angry. He knew that everything was going to be ok, and so did she. So why couldn't she just let it go. When he grabbed his keys he didn't really make any plans on going to the bars. He learned his lesson with that years ago. Instead, he headed to the local park where he and Mercedes would take Infinity and the dogs. He parked his car and walked along the trail, enjoying the peace and tranquility as he tried to calm down before going back home. As he was walking a small kid and his mom, and the small boy raced up to him.

"You are Sam Evans!" The boy jumped up and down with excitement.

"I am. What's your name?" Sam questioned squatting down to the boy.

"I'm Nicky, and that's my mom." Nicky replied.

His mom came up and placed her hand on her son's shoulder, "Sorry but Nicky is just such a big fan of you. I am also in love with your wife. I love her music."

Sam chuckled, "Yeah she is an amazing woman. I don't have a pen on me but I can take a picture with your son if that is ok."

"Yes please!" Nicky yelled as he attached himself to Sam's side and urged his mom to take the photo. The woman took a couple of snaps before Nicky removed himself, and he sntached his mom's phone. The woman sidled up closer to Sam, and he moved back cautisouly.

"What, am I not your type." She purred.

"No." Sam replied.

"Oh come on I am sure I can do some things that your wife can't." She flirted.

Sam made a disgusted look, "No the fuck you can not."

"I can make it worth your while. It can be our little secret."

"My husband said no bitch." Mercedes said from behind them. Immediatley their heads snapped towards Mercedes and she looked pissed. Sam was grateful he had put distance between himself and the woman. He walked over to his wife and stood behind her. He didn't want to be in the middle of a catfight.

"Oh my God you are Mercedes Jones. I love your music so much." The woman changed her demeanor from flirtatious to a fangirl with a quickness.

"And it seems to me that you were trying to proposition my husband." Mercedes growled. The woman gulped before grabbing her son and walking in the opposite direction, and Mercedes turned towards Sam with a smug look on his face.

"Honestly, I am just glad that she didn't try anything." Sam joked lightly.

Mercedes rolled her eyes, "Well she had her fucking son with her and she wasn't above trying to flirt with you. Fucking bitch."

"Hey, look its ok. She is just some groupie trying to get her and her son on the next big thing. MY heart, soul, and my body all belongs to you. I am sorry for yelling at you. You know I hate yelling at you."

Mercedes sighed, "It's ok, and I am for sorry for getting upset. You just worked so hard to not be the same person all those years ago, and I don't want you to revert back to your old ways."

"You let me worry about that. My only goal in life is to love and protect you and that little girl." He insisted. He wrapped his arms around her waist and placed a kiss to her forehead. "Can we go home now? I'm really hungry." Sam joked.

"Yes Sam. We can go home." Mercedes laughed.
