Another chapter!
Sasha sat in the chair next to Maria's hospital bed. St. Thomas had a few good doctors and Sasha wanted to make sure Maria was doing better. Sadly the results were a lot worse than they thought and now Maria had been admitted to the hospital. It broke her heart to see the strong hearted frail woman looking as if she was made of glass. She tried to read as she waited for the doctor to come back. Or for her husband who she had called earlier. This was going to crush her husband but he wouldn't be alone. He would have his club and her no matter what. She looked up at the sound of the door opening. It was Happy and his eyes were on his frail mother.
Happy saw his wife and knew that her calm facade was just a mask. She was trying to be strong for him and it warmed his heart. Looking at his mother laying there on the bed hooked up to monitors. It made her look so much smaller and frailer. He ran a hand over his bald head and bent down to kiss his wife in greeting. Later she would break down and he would be there. In tough times some men pushed away their loved ones. Happy would cling to his wife and let her in. He knew his mother was frail and that her time was fast approaching. He just didn't think it would happen so soon. And they had only just recently moved into the new house.
Sasha leaned forward and held Maria's hand gently. Her mother-in-law didn't belong in a hospital bed. She closed her eyes trying to fight the urge to cry. Maria was a bright and shining soul, she was pure and good. Her husband's hand on her shoulder was steadying. It grounded her in a way no one else ever could. "They found something concerning during her checkup. Dr. Smith is going to be ordering tests done. Right now they are running tests on her blood and will update us when it's done." She looked up at her husband as his hand tightened on her shoulder. She understood his feelings and knew this was hard on him.
Happy closed his eyes hoping for there to be nothing wrong. But in his heart he knew something had changed in his mother. There were no outwardly signs of there being anything wrong. She had looked to be improving somewhat since she came under the care of his wife. But now he realized that inside her body something had changed. His head snapped around when the door opened and walked into the room. Causing his wife to stand up and move into his arms.
Dr. Smith looked at the couple and then to his patient. A sad smile on his face as he looked at the results of Ms. Lowman's blood work. "Mr and Mrs. Lowman, I have the results of the blood work. I'd like to run a few tests on Ms. Lowman but from the results of her blood work. She has lung cancer, the tests are to determine how aggressive the cancer is and how far it's spread."
Happy held his wife closer and looked first at his sleeping mother then at the doctor. "Do it. My wife is her nurse, if you need a list of her medications Sasha can get them." He looked down at his shaken wife and forced her to look up at him. He didn't have to say anything when she could read his emotions. He wasn't going to push her away or let her go this alone. His mother had become hers over the past six years. She cared very much for his mother. He pressed a lingering kiss to his wife's forehead.
Dr. Smith watched them for a moment then went over to check Maria's vitals. "I'll set up the tests then. I would like the list of medications just to be on the safe side." He wrote down her vitals before walking to the door. "I'll let you know the results once they are in." He promised before he let the couple be.
Later that night Sasha was nursing a cup of tea. Her eyes on her silent husband who was nursing a glass of whiskey. "Hap I'm scared." She felt the tears well in her eyes as she gripped her cup tightly. This was the first night that Maria wasn't with them. Nights whenever Happy was home were spent as a family. Movies or board games mostly since Maria tired easily. They were treasured times for them both with the frail and ailing woman. She had no idea when it happened but Maria had become important to her. She had become the mother she never had.
Happy set his glass down and gently took his wife's cup away from her. Then pulled her into his lap and held her tightly. He felt her bury her face in his neck and cry. He carded his fingers through her hair and rocked his body. A few tears slipped down his own face as he let himself be vulnerable. "I am too angel." He rasped out through the tears. His mother gave up so much to raise him when his father stepped out on them. When he became a member of the Sons he started taking care of her. It wasn't until Sasha came into their life that he could just spend time with his mother. Sasha took care of all her needs no matter what they were. She was a blessing to the Lowman family.
Sasha pulled back enough to look at her husband. She pulled his head down so his face was pressed to her neck. "No matter what you aren't alone." She rubbed his back and let him cry as much as he needed to. Happy normally wasn't one to let his guard down and show emotions. But with her and his mother he let himself be vulnerable with them. Neither of them would ever use that against him. She felt his arms tighten around her even more. She then made him look at her and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips. "Love me tonight Happy please?" She very rarely asks for lovemaking so when she does he knows she needs him to anchor them both.
Happy stood up with his wife in his arms and his lips attached to hers. Kissing her slow and lovingly as he carried her to their bedroom. Once in there he set her on her feet then slowly stripped her of her clothes. Letting her do the same as they kissed not wanting to part from one another yet. As he laid her down on the bed he took his time making love to his wife. Every touch, kiss and thrust was slow and passionate. Showing her the depths of his love for her through the act of lovemaking.
Over the next couple of days Happy was given a few days to spend with his wife and mother. The club knew she was in the hospital and that he needed to be there for his wife. That Happy needed a few days to be with just his family as small as it was. Sasha and Happy spent most of their time at the hospital with Maria. They had been told she had lung cancer and that it was a pretty aggressive one. The doctors had immediately started her on chemotherapy to see if they could beat back the cancer. Sadly with the chemotherapy and how frail Maria looked. The cancer was winning the battle and both Sasha and Happy were scared she wouldn't last.
Currently Sasha was sitting by Maria's bed working on her next novel. She'd been writing a lot more since Maria had been admitted into the hospital. The chemotherapy was taking it's toll on the frail woman and Sasha was becoming very worried. Most of the time Maria was either sleeping or going through chemotherapy. So Sasha and Happy took turns watching over Maria. Right now her husband was checking on Abel, who she had been introduced to while Jax was visiting. She had given Jax some hard facts and told him he needed to focus on his son. If he wanted to start something with Tara then he had better make sure she was all in. If she was here because she needed something from him then it wasn't a good start to any relationship. Jax needed to figure out what it was he really wanted and needed for his son.
She rubbed her hands over her face then put her laptop away. Just looking at Maria made her heart break. She had no idea what her death would do to Happy. But she would do her best to be there for her husband. He'd probably be seeking a lot of jobs that deal with torture and killing off targets. He'd need to work through his grief in some way. She was pretty sure some of it would result in her walking funny for days on end. Not that she minded much her husband was always good to her.
She looked over at the sound of the door opening and saw her husband. The look on his face told him he had just talked to his mother's doctor. "What did he say?" She knew that chemotherapy was harsh on the body. Heart sank at the thought of losing Maria so suddenly.
Happy crossed the room and pulled his wife to her feet. Then sat down and pulled her into his lap. "Dr. Smith said she doesn't have very long to live. Her health was already bad before they discovered the cancer. He gives her maybe a couple more weeks. Despite the chemotherapy her body is starting to deteriorate." He ran a hand over his face while he held his wife close. Had he not had her in his life he knew he would have been worse off at the news. But he had Sasha and she hadn't once left him alone. He was thankful for that, his brothers could call him a pussy for it but Sasha was his angel. His guardian angel and he had become a better man. He was still a killer, an enforcer for his club. But he had become stronger and more grounded.
Sasha turned in his lap so she was straddling him. Fiddling with his cut she didn't really know what to say. "Whatever happens I'm here." She knew he had lived with Maria being sick far longer than she had. But to see him like this it broke her heart even more. Her strong killer loved his mother and it would hurt him deeply when she passes. "I'm here." She repeated as she wrapped her arms around him and let him just hold her.
AN: Next chapter will have more on Maria and then her death. Yes I am sadly killing off Happy's mom but this is my story and I have a lot of plans for Sasha and Happy and of course Samcro. I'm not gonna completely focus on the show but aspects of it will be changing.
