Author's Note:

Majority of this chapter contains a Brittana flashback and is supposed to explain the dynamic of their relationship within this story and what they mean to each other and how they met. So, I hope you all enjoy it. It is very Brittana filled!

Review Responses: I will try to comment on everyone's review in each follow up chapter! Feedback is welcome and thank you for sticking with me 3

Flmagic11-No need to thank me! It feels good to be back and thank you for coming back and viewing this story. It is amazing to see how alive Brittana fandom still is after all these years!

burglover421-Yes, Puck was never my favorite. He got a little less annoying in later seasons, but due to what happened with the actor, I hate to even think about the character. Unfortunately, this story predates all that craziness. Thank you for the review!

Ludipa-Thank you for your understanding and congratulations! Yes, life can definitely get chaotic and the next thing you know it's been a decade! Thank you for sticking with me!

Chapter Two: Do You Hear It? (Remastered)

Lima, Ohio: 2009

"I can't believe you're really leaving me." Brittany said with a pout, her eyes already watering. She thought she didn't have any tears left to cry; she was mistaken.

Santana was laying on her back, with the blonde's head on her chest. The older brunette began to run her fingers through golden waves in an attempt to soothe the younger girl.

"I'm not leaving you; I could never leave you, especially not by choice. I'm just going to be gone for a little while, that's it. We both knew this day would come. Everyone has to graduate at some point, and when you do, we can finally start our lives together in New York just like we planned. I'm just getting a head start, so everything will be perfect when you arrive." Santana promised, sealing it with a kiss on top of the girl's head.

"It's not that easy though!" Stressed Brittany while sitting up and straddling Santana's lap. "Not everyone graduates San and at this point I know I never will, especially with you no longer being here to basically do my homework for me. Even Quinn thinks so! I'm just too stupid! I'll always be the same old Lima Loser, while you go on to be this hot kick ass star with an equally hot girlfriend your own age!" Brittany was now having trouble keeping her tears at bay and Santana was beginning to sense this.

"You are not stupid!"

"Yes, I a-," Brittany was cut off by a manicured finger pressing to her thin lips.

"You are not stupid." Santana reaffirmed, while sitting up so that she could look into her girlfriend's eyes. She needed her to see the love and sincerity within them. "You're a genius Brit and the world is just too far behind you to realize it right now. And as for graduating I know you will, because I'm going to do everything in my power to help you. There's no way I'm going to allow us to be apart any longer than we have to." Promised Santana.

"But how will you be able to help me?! You're going to be in New York, far away from this crappy place, and with the world at your feet! Meanwhile I'm going to be the same old idiot stuck in the eleventh grade!" The tears finally broke as Brittany began to realize the reality of their situation.

For the majority of her life, it has been Santana and her against the world.

Lima, Ohio: 2003

Ever since the day Santana had come to her rescue when Sam and Karofsky had pushed her down and called her a stupid freak for walking a fat cat on a leash and an even bigger one for claiming he could talk and had a bad smoking habit.

She tried to stick up for herself by yelling his name was Lord Tubington not "Fat Cat!". But this only served to egg them on, as they continued to taunt the small blonde, laughing, and pointing.

Santana witnessing the ordeal and noticing the little girl was close to tears had seen enough! So, with a forward brow and deep frown, she scared the two bullies off screaming that she would go all Lima Heights on their butts if they didn't help the girl up and leave her alone.

As only fourth graders, Sam and Blaine didn't even understand what her threat meant, but Santana was a sixth grader, and went to the "Big People School", so without any protest, they helped Brittany up and ran for the hills. This left a still dazed and frightened Brittany S. Pierce alone with a very intimidating Santana Lopez.

"Hey, are you okay... Umm..." Santana trailed off not knowing the bully victim's name. She began to squat down and get eye level with the blonde, hoping this made her look less scary.

"Brit-, Brittany S. Pierce," she supplied in a whisper, still not knowing if Santana was truly her hero or just a bigger bully.

"Wow, cool name. Any relation to Britney Spears?" Santana tried to joke, still seeing some fear in Brittany's eyes.

"No, but I'm a really really big fan of hers. I ask my mommy and daddy for every album she makes." Brittany explained; beginning to relax since Santana has not struck or made any moves to.

"Awesome! I'm more of a Beyoncé girl myself, but Britney's cool too. I'm Santana by the way." She introduced herself while sticking her hand out for a handshake, just like she has seen her dad do with people, especially when he is wearing his fancy white coat.

"That's a really pretty name." Complimented Brittany with a shy and timid smile. She began to tentatively reach out to shake the offered hand. "Oh! I almost forgot. This is Lord Tubin-" Brittany was going to introduce her cat to her newfound friend, something she rarely did for just anyone, especially this fast. But as she looked down, she finally realized that Lord T was no longer by her side! He must have been shaken up and ran off during her run in with Sam and Karofsky.

"Oh my God my kitty! My kitten, he's gone Santana! Where is he?! Lord Tubington! Lord T!" Brittany frantically began to call out as she looked around, not seeing him anywhere. While the young girl continued to freak out all Santana could think was, what the heck is a Lord Tubington?

"Santana can you please help me find him? I just got him, so he doesn't know anyone. He's out there all alone! He's probably afraid and scared for his life! I was about to teach him stranger-danger today!" As the girl went on and on, her pout grew bigger and harder to resist. Santana's chest began to do some kind of weird flutter thing.

What is this feeling? It feels like my heart is soaring and drowning all at once. All of a sudden, she couldn't say no to that face.

She was hooked.

As they searched, they filled the time talking about anything and everything. Santana learned that Brittany has a younger sister, who is "like a little doll, but she is not plastic!" and her name is Tiffany.

Brittany and Tiffany. Yeah, real creative. Thought Santana, with an internal eyeroll.

"Do you get it San? Brittany and Tiffany! Is that not totally awesome?! She is sorta named after me, because I'm the oldest and she is like a tiny me. So, I have to love and protect her forever! It's the best!" Proclaimed Brittany with a wide grin. The young blonde was talking a mile a minute and with so much excitement that she didn't notice Santana pause.

"San?" Questioned Santana, with confused yet hopeful brown eyes.

Brittany turned around, finally noticing she was a few passes ahead. She began to do a little moonwalk/skip combo back towards the older brunette.

"What's the matter San?" Inquired the blonde, her eyes full of concern.

"You called me San…" The older girl wasn't sure if she was making a statement or asking a question. Either way she looked at the blonde with wonder.

"Yeah, that's your nickname. Bestest friends have to have nicknames for each other Silly Billy." Brittany said it as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. As if this were always the case. Like somehow the two girls didn't just meet not even two hours ago.

"Bestest friends..." Again, she had no clue if this were a statement or a question.

"Yes, you're my bestest friend…Do you not wanna be?" The blonde asked with a small pout. The older girl's silence was beginning to make her second guess herself. She was so excited to have a friend that she forgot to check to see if the other girl even wanted it to be that way.

"No! I mean yes!" What? Santana took a second to physically shake out the fuzziness in her head. Once it was cleared, she looked over at her companion, who was looking at her with wide doe eyes. "Yes, I want to be bestest friends… umm… Britt-Britt?"

The new nickname was received with the widest and brightest smile Santana had ever seen. She couldn't help but mirror it.

"Awesome! Come on San, we have to find Lord T before the blue leaves the sky!" Exclaimed the blonde as she linked their pinkies and began to skip down the sidewalk.

The rest of the day was spent talking, sharing, and overturning the entire neighborhood looking for the tiny chubby kitten.

Santana learned and took in everything she could about the blonde. Like, Brittany's dad is strangely named Pierce Pierce and her mom is Whitney Pierce. She danced before she could walk and therefore, she never stopped. Her favorite color is rainbow, because all the colors are equally special, so you should never pick just one.

"If you pick just one, then all the others will be sad and not shine no more, then we won't have any colors at all" Explained Brittany, as if it were fact and the most logical thing in the world.

Santana could only nod and take in every little detail that fell from the blonde's mouth.

I wish a had a notepad. Thought Santana.

Finally, as the sky began to turn dark, Santana spotted a tiny tail hidden in a bush.

She almost felt sad. If it were not for her mom and dad making her promise to return before the streetlights came on, she would have pretended not to see the tail. Santana couldn't remember the last time she had this much fun.

"I think I see him over there Britt!" Santana called out, running towards the bushes belonging to the house of one Lucy Quinn Fabray. Brittany, being so relieved of Lord T's rescue, hugged Santana with all the strength her little body could muster while proclaiming Santana to be her hero.

She had hugged her for so long that she missed the full-faced blush that crept up Santana's face, all the way from her neck to her puffy cheeks. The feeling of being embraced by one Brittany S. Pierce was like nothing Santana had ever experienced. This was better than that time she made Finn Nips cry after he said she was too short to play on the swings.

From that day on, she knew she wanted nothing more than to be Brittany's hero for the rest of her life.

Lima, Ohio: 2009

But now Brittany's hero was going to chase her dreams in New York, she was graduating and finally escaping Lima, Ohio; something that Brittany wouldn't be able to accomplish for another two years, if ever. The situation was so hard to accept that Brittany just had to get away from the reminder of it all.

"I have to go San," said Brittany while trying to remove her girlfriend's grip from her hips "my mom wanted me home tonight so that I could look after Tiff while she and dad go to some company dinner."

"Britt-Britt stop." Commanded Santana, tightening her hold on the younger girl. "I know you don't have to go. It's Saturday, and you always stay over on Saturdays. Also, I know Tiffany isn't even home, because all she could talk about Thursday and Friday was how excited she was for her sleep over with that weird kid Tina. So, please don't lie. Tell me the real reason for this little escape you're trying to accomplish."

"First off, don't call Tina weird. That is bullying and I will not tolerate it!" declared Brittany, while waving her finger in front of the older girl's face to get her point across. "Plus, she's like ten, so cut her some slack, she's still in the phase of trying to find herself and figure out who she is."

"Well, what she needs to do is find some better acting skills, because that fake ass stutter of hers is getting old really quick." The brunette's joke was met with zero laughter from Brittany, not even the slightest smile.

"Once again, she's only ten and my little sister's best friend so shut up!" Yelled Brittany while pushing Santana back against the bed, finally being able to break free of the older girl's vice like grip and stand up.

"Okay wow. Overreact much?" asked Santana, sitting back up in her bed. "Now I know this reaction and attitude isn't just about Tina and my name calling, because we both know I call everyone names. It's one of my best qualities." She boasted with a smirk. "So can we please just talk about what's really bugging you, so we can get back to our sweet lady kisses?"

"There's nothing to talk about Santana, everything has already been said and done for me!" Brittany proclaimed as she began to pace around the room.

"The fact that you just called me Santana tells me that we need to talk. So please just tell me Britt. I'm still here, you can still talk to me baby, about anything." Assured Santana while standing up to caress Brittany's cheek.

"Yeah, but for how long Santana?!" Yelled Brittany, slapping the other girl's hand away. "How long will you be here for me? How long do we have left? A month? Two months? How much longer before you leave me, go off to college, and find someone else? Someone your own age, someone smarter than me, more experienced than me, better looking? Or someone who is actually doing something with their life?! You're abandoning me and there's nothing I can do to stop it! My world is ending, and you just want me to carry on like we're the same, like things aren't changing for us, but I can't do that San! I can't continue to build our relationship when I feel like at any moment it's going to be ripped right from under me!" At this point Brittany begun to breakdown into ugly sobs, barely able to get her words out; Santana had seen and heard enough.

"Baby please tell me that you don't honestly think that you're even somewhat replaceable in my life or in my heart." begged Santana while grasping onto Brittany's waist, successfully bringing an end to the blonde's pacing.

Brittany could only remain silent, because at this point, she was so filled with mixed emotions and felt so vulnerable that she didn't quite know what to believe in anymore.

"Baby I've known you for six years out of my seventeen years of even existing, and I've loved you for all of them. Brit, I fall in love with you more and more every day. Heck, I was in love with you when we were too young to truly know what it even meant. No one can or ever will be able to replace that. There is only one Brittany S. Pierce in this world, and she belongs with me, and I belong with her, from day one and until the end babe, remember? What did I say to you the first day we met, after you asked me if it could be just the two of us forever? What did I promise Britt" Asked Santana, while wiping the tears from pale cheeks. "What did I promise?" she urged.

"You said that we start together, we end together, because we will always be each other's endgame." Brittany finally answered, her voice cracking due to all the crying she had been doing.

"Exactly babe. We started together; we started this amazing thing that very few people ever get to experience, especially this young. We are both one of the lucky few who actually found our soul mate Britt. You are my soul mate; I was destined to be with you, to find you and spend my entire life with you, and if you think I'm going to throw that away for some stupid graduation, stardom, or some big breasted bimbo in New York, then you're crazy!" Santana passionately said, her voice gentle yet firm.

"I love you Brittany S. Pierce and I am going to marry you one day, and nothing or no one will ever take that away from us. We will end together. I believe that with all of my heart. Everything inside of me tells me that one day you are going to be my wife, that you will be the mother of my future children. Do you hear it too, do you hear it in your heart Britt?" asked Santana while bringing Brittany's face up to lock eyes with her. She gently placing a tanned hand over the other girl's chest, where her heart could be felt beating under the cheerio uniform. "Do you hear it babe?"

Of course, Brittany believed it with all she had too, but distance could make even the most incredible things lose their fate, especially when that distance was 536.1 miles away.

She looked it up. She looked it up and cried herself to sleep that night.

But they were Brittany and Santana, if any two people could make it work it had to be them, because they were inevitable.

Right?

This is why Brittany locked eyes with Santana and gave the only answer she knew in her heart to be true.

"Yes. Yes San, I believe it. I believe that we will end up together. I know we will." she proclaimed with a hesitant smile.

Santana matched it with one of her own while wrapping her arms around Brittany's waist, tugging her forward, and kissing her with all she had.

"I love you, Santana Lopez." Brittany declared after the kiss broke.

"And I love you, Brittany Pierce." Echoed Santana while picking the younger girl up and walking them to the bed. She was going to show her girl just how much she loved her and just how much she meant every word she spoke and every promise she made tonight.

But little did they know that they were exchanging more than just promises to stay together forever; they were unknowingly creating something that truly would last a lifetime and bond them together forever.

So, I hope you all enjoyed reading the improved version of this chapter! I tried to sneak in a little more detail and Brittana cuteness, I hope it flowed well! I also, made some character and timeline changes. Thank you for reading.

Please feel free to leave a review.
