Musutafu, Japan

In a penthouse, a boy walks into his bathroom and brushes his teeth. While doing so, he hears his butler call out, "Young master, what are you still doing here?" and "Your exam starts in 20 minutes!"

The boy spits out his toothpaste and proceeds to rush out of his bathroom, but not before taking a quick glance at the mirror and checking to see if he looks alright.

A 15-year-old boy with black hair and red eyes, with a tiny bit of yellow mixed in, stares back at him. "Looking good," he says to his reflection while making finger guns.

As he rushes out of the bathroom, he hurriedly picks up the tracksuit he prepared the night before and puts it on as fast as he can. He then goes around his room and starts stuffing things into his backpack. As he does that, he stops and picks up a shield amulet made of silver and stares at it for a few moments before putting it on.

He then runs out of his room and rushes down the stairs. While doing so, he spots his butler at the bottom of the staircase, looking up at him with a polite yet mean look on his face. "Young master, you know very well not to rush down the stairs like that," his butler politely says before moving out of the way of the boy.

"Yeah, I know, Edmund, I'm sorry," the boy says in a sorry tone. "I'm just scared I might not make it in time for the entrance exam," the boy says quickly before making his way to the door.

But before he can leave, Edmund quickly shouts, "Good luck out there, young master!".

"Thanks, Edmund," he replied.

The boy then makes his way to the elevator, goes onto the street, and starts running as fast as he can towards UA.

*15 Minutes Later*

U.A. High School

A wide, blue gate greets the boy, but he pays it no mind and rushes straight to the front desk. "Excuse me, miss," he calls out to get the attention of the lady at the desk. "Where do I go to take the written exam?" he asks. The lady then points down a certain hallway, and the boy rushes down the hallway while quickly thanking the lady as he leaves.

The boy enters the room and takes his seat at one of the many desks. The proctor of the exam then goes to the front of the room and says a few things before the test starts. After passing out all the papers, the proctor begins the exam. The boy starts the test by writing his name at the top of the paper.

Kaen Hatori

Kaen finishes the exam in 10 minutes and exits the classroom with a numbered tag on his chest along with a card that contains information on the practical exam. "Candidate 97, please make your way to the auditorium." A man waiting in the hallway points down another hallway.

Kaen arrives at the auditorium and looks around. "Whoa, that's a lot of chairs." Kaen remarks to himself. As Kaen continues to scan the room, he feels a tap on his shoulders and turns around.

"Excuse me, could you please not block the entrance? Other people need to pass through here too-kero." a girl with froglike features politely says to him.

"Oh, my bad I didn't realize I was blocking the way." Kaen replied back.

The frog girl scans the room behind him for a few seconds before replying, "It's okay, - kero.".

Kaen then excuses himself and chooses the nearest seat. Once everyone takes their seats, a man with yellow hair and shades walks out on stage and begins explaining the rules for the practical exam. While doing so, a boy with dark blue hair and glasses stands up and asks a question and then proceeds to chastise a nervous-looking green-haired boy about muttering.

The man with yellow hair thanks the blue-haired boy and proceeds to answer his question. "That fourth villain type is worth zero points; he's just an obstacle we decided to throw in your way." and "There'll be one of these bad boys in every battle center.".

"So, I'm in Battle Center C, huh?" Kaen thinks to himself.

"Hey, man, you're in C just like me." A boy next to him with yellow hair and yellow eyes says to him while showing his card with the same letter on it.

Before Kaen can respond, the yellow-haired boy continues and says, "I'm Denki Kaminari, by the way." and "What's your name?"

"Kaen Hatori, nice to meet you, Kaminari-san." Kaen says this while shaking hands with Denki.

"Just call me Kaminari." Kaminari replied back. "Wanna head there together?"

Kaen thinks for a moment before responding back and saying. "Sure, I can't see why not.". The two of them make their way towards a bus that will take them to their destination while chatting about mundane topics.

Battle Center C

The bus comes to a stop. and everyone gets out. A massive gate greets them, and Kaen is momentarily shocked at the size of the gate. Kaen then spots a man with cube-like features waiting behind the massive gate.

"Your exam begins in 2 minutes; prepare yourselves before then!" the cube man shouts out to the crowd.

"Well, this is where we split ways, Hatori." Kaminari says this and makes his way to the front of the group.

As Kaen starts to realize that he's about to take the exam, a feeling of dread consumes him, and with no one to talk with to distract him from his thoughts, he starts to tremble.

"Calm down, Kaen, you got this." Kaen thinks to himself repeatedly. As Kaen is beginning to calm down, the cube man shouts, "Your exam begins now!"

Everyone starts rushing through the now-opening gate. Kaen takes a few seconds to realize what the man just said and makes a mad dash through the gate.

"Ok, I should be able to take out the two-pointer robots with ease; let's focus on those first." Kaen thinks to himself.

As Kaen makes his way down a street, a three-pointer suddenly rushes through the building in front of him and charges him down.

"You got this Kaen, just like you practiced come on." Kaen thinks to himself while activating his quirk. A deep red flame manifest around his hands and Kaen starts tossing flames at the 3-pointer in hopes of hitting a lucky shot.

He manages to toss his flames right at the center of the robot, and his flames melt through it like butter. After making sure the robot is down for good, Kaen moves on.

Kaen continues this tactic, taking down robots left and right, but before Kaen can move on and find his next point bag, he spots nine injured candidates trying to take down a group of three-pointers and losing horribly. Kaen melts a hole through one of the robots, disabling it, and goes through that hole in order to get to the next robot, which Kaen takes down with a punch to the side. Kaen then hops on top of the robot and starts chucking flames at the remaining robots. After the remaining robots are destroyed, he goes to check on the injured candidates.

"Are you all alright?" Kaen asks worriedly.

"I think my arms are broken."

"I overused my quirk, and now my whole body hurts."

Several more people cry out in pain. Most have minor injuries

"Alright, everybody, stay where you are, and I'll heal you." Kaen shouts to get their attention.

Kaen then proceeds to activate his quirk again and place his hands on an injured student. The wounds start healing at a rapid rate. He does the same to every single one of them. As he wipes off his sweat and prepares to leave, a boy asks him a question.

"Why'd you heal us? You do know we're competing against each other, right?".

"I guess it's because it's what a hero would do?" Kaen says uncertainly.

The boy then bursts into laughter. "God, that sounds corny as hell, but you're right, it is what a hero would do. Well, thanks man because of you, I might still have a chance of making it in." The boy replied back.

"No problem." Kaen replies back in a slightly embarrassed tone.
As Kaen continues his fiery rampage, the voice of the yellow haired man from before echoes through the city.

"Times up!"

An alarm echoes through the city, signifying the end of the exam. Several students around Kaen made sounds of frustration at the announcement. Everybody makes their way to the exit.

"Hey, Hatori, wait up man." Kaminari calls out from behind

"Oh, hello, Kaminari-san." Kaen replied, now facing the boy.

"Again, just call me Kaminari, man, but that's not why I stopped. I stopped you to ask how you did." Kaminari asks Kaen

"I think I did pretty well, but I'm not sure." Kaen replied in an uncertain tone.

"Weren't you keeping count?" Kaminari asks with a confused look on his face.

"I kind of forgot to keep count." Kaen replied with a slightly embarrassed look on his face.

Kaminari looks at Kaen in disbelief, wondering how Kaen could forget something so important.

"You probably did good, don't worry." Kaminari says reassuringly

"Thank you, Kaminari-san. I'm sure you did well too." Kaen replied back.

"Again, it's-Oh never mind, just don't act like a stranger when school starts." Kaminari replied back in a defeated tone.

Kaminari then runs ahead of Kaen, waving goodbye, and Kaen waves back. Kaen then makes his way out of the school and back home.

Hatori Penthouse

As soon as Kaen enters his house, Edmund calls out from the kitchen.

"Young master, you're back. Have a seat at the dining table. Your afternoon snack should be ready any moment now."

Edmund enters the dining room with a small pizza in hand and places it before Kaen.

"Your afternoon snack is a pizza that contains ghost pepper sauce, pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, carolina reaper extract, and Pepper X, finely minced and spread throughout the pizza." Edmund says before excusing himself to the kitchen.

Edmund then comes back with a normal looking pizza for himself and sits across from Kaen so as not to inhale the deadly fumes from his pizza. Kaen proceeds to go to town on his pizza, devouring it in less than 5 minutes, while Edmund eats his own portion in a slow yet methodical way.

"Thanks for the snack, Edmund." Kaen says this while patting his satisfied belly.

"It is my pleasure, young master." Edmund replied politely.

Kaen then excuses himself and goes to his room to take a break. As he enters his room, he heads straight towards where he kept his amulet before and places it down, but not before saying, "Mom, Dad... I did it. I managed to take the test, but I don't know if I'll pass. Even if I do fail, I promise I'll try to find another way.".

Kaen then lays down on his bed and falls asleep instantly.
