This is my first Chicago Fire story. I have never posted on this site. I couldn't get this story out of my head.
The Dawson's are back in Chicago. Matt and Gabby haven't spoken in years. Not since he asked that her last call be their last conversation. She had something important to discuss but honored his request. Gabby hasn't been back to Chicago since the fundraiser.
CHAPTER ONE
Antonio Dawson walked up the driveway of Firehouse 51. A place that was at once familiar, yet not lately. Kelly Severide looking on from the Squad Table surprised to see him there after all this time. Ántonio? Long time no see man."
"Hey Kelly, yeah, it's been a while. I am here to see the Chief," he replied. "He said these two nuggets could come tour the house."
Sevaride noticing there are two kids trailing just behind him for the first time. "Ok, I think he may be in the Common Room. Come on in," he invited, as all three followed him inside.
"Look what the cat dragged in! Antonio Dawson, this is a surprise," Hermann said, as a way of greeting. "What the heck are you doing here? Last I heard you'd left the CPD and were in Puerto Rico with your sister."
"Yeah, I was there, as well as in the Bahamas, but moved back a few of months ago. I am back home and working with a Special Task Force within CPD."
Boden came into the room smiling. "It must be old home week; first Casey, now you."
Antonio noticing for the first time, that Matt was seated at the large table holding his ex-girlfriend, Sylvie Brett's, hand. He raises an eyebrow in silent inquiry, "Hey," he greeted the couple. "Casey, I heard you'd left the city. What are you doing here?"
"Hey, Antonio" Matt acknowledged. "I'm here visiting Sylvie. We, uh, we're engaged." There was an awkward silence. Antonio's eyes open wide, as he looks between the two.
"Well, I guess congratulations are in order. I'm happy for you both," although he looked anything but.
"I didn't realize you'd remarried and had little ones," Hermann interjected, to cut through the obvious tension between the former brothers-in-law/ex-girlfriend.
"Oh, no, they're not mine. The twins are my niece and nephew. The Chief said they could come see where their mama used to work." All eyes turn towards Dawson as he made this statement.
"Gabby remarried? Is she here for a visit?" asked Hermann.
"No, on both counts," was Antonio's response, as he looked back at the Chief.
"I am so happy to meet you two. I have heard a lot about you," says Boden. "I am Chief Boden, who do I have the pleasure of meeting?" he directs his gaze to the little boy and girl in front of him.
"I'm Teo, I'm four," says the little boy, as he offers his hand with a smile that showed off his dimples. He is very fair complected with short sandy blonde curly hair, and big brown eyes, like his mom's. "This is my sister, Lizzy."The little girl steps out from behind her brother, her long chestnut brown ringlets tied back in a ribbon. "Hello," she says with a smile. Her great big blue eyes meeting Boden's gaze. Other than her eye color, she is Gabby's mini-me.
"It's a pleasure to meet you both," says the chief as he leads them from the Common room, leaving a stunned Matt Casey in his wake. He looks over and sees a shocked Kelly Sevaride. In silent agreement, they both stand up, deciding to join the party.
The kids are in the hallway looking at the pictures on the wall pointing out Gabby whenever they see her.
"I'm sorry for not letting you know Casey would be here Antonio. When we first set this up, I didn't know he was coming into town," said Boden.
"No worries," Dawson shrugged it off. "The kids just wanted to see where Gabby worked."
"See sissy, there's mama!" Teo points to a picture of Gabby with the group from Second shift. "Uncle Mills, I see Uncle Mills," he points while hopping around excitedly. Casey glances at Sevaride upon hearing the boy's enthusiastic statement. "Here's one with Mama and the ambulance," he points to a picture of Gabby and Shay leaning against the ambo.
"Hey, that's mama's best friend, Auntie Shay! We have pictures of her at home." says Lizzy. She turns to Boden, saying, "I have her name. I am Leslie Elizabeth Dawson, but mama calls me Lizzy."
Kelly and Matt rounding the corner when the little girl said this to the Chief. Sevaride sucks in a deep breath as he hears the name of his best friend. It had been years since Shay's death, but she holds a special place in his heart; hearing her name never failing to make his heart hurt.
"Is that right?" Boden queried. "Well, that's a pretty name for a pretty girl. Your mom and Shay were the best of friends. Boy, the stories I could tell you, right Sevaride? Casey?"Both men, having caught up to the group, nodded their heads.
"I'd probably hold off on most of them Chief," Kelly said laughing.
"Mama says I was named for a really great friend too." Says Teo. "I am Matteo Aaron Dawson, but mama calls me Teo" says the little boy. "I don't think we have any pictures of him hasn't shown us any. Chief Boden, we have seen the pictures and where mama slept, can we see the fire trucks now?"
Matthew Aaron Casey was stopped dead in his tracks as he looked at the two kids. He was backtracking, doing math in his head. Was he their father? Wouldn't Gabby have called him if she was pregnant?
Antonio took pictures of the kids on Truck 81 and the ambo. Hermann and Gallo lending the kids their turnout gear. They were having a blast.
"So, Antonio, when do the kids go back to Puerto Rico?" asked Cruz. They're not," he replied. "They live here now. Gabby moved back to Chicago when I did."
So, that's the first chapter. I am not sure how long it will be. I am new to the One Chicagouniverse and fell in love with Chicago Fire. I loved Gabby, especially when Shay was alive.
