Day 1: Sunday's Melancholy Part 2

Shibuya, Q-Tront

The outside of the station was quite ruined from the sudden earthquake, vehicles and people stopped around crowding the whole place. "This is an emergency broadcast. Today, a wide-scale disaster occurred around 3:00 pm..." A large TV screen high above the building was reporting something as the people listening to it or busy using their phone to call someone, there were also policemen and firemen around outside of the station or other ruin building doing their job to search for any other survivor.

"It can't be, the city is all blast out!" In the crowd of people nearest to the station, Daichi exclaimed at the sight of the ruin area before he recalled something, "That's right, I have to call my parents." He quickly took out his phone to contact his family as Io had done so.

"That's terrible..." Kagome frowned as she looked up at the TV screen, feeling sorry for those who didn't manage to survive.

"Detail is still scarce, but the city centre appears to have suffered tremendous damage. Repeating: Today, a wide-scale…" The news continued to report as more firemen went to the station.

"The station area is currently unusable! There's no telling when operations will resume!" One of the policemen spoke through a loudspeaker.

"Hello, Mother?" His phone answered, Daichi covered one of his ears with his hand to block away the loud noises around so he could hear the other line more clearly, "Yeah, I'm in Shibuya. I'm with Hibiki and his cousin right now." The line suddenly cut off right when the TV screen had suddenly gone black halfway during the report, "Hello? Hello?!"

"The phone won't work…" Io look worrying at her phone as no one had answered the called back home.

It was only now that Kagome remember she still hadn't called back home, she took out her phone to find there were no signal at all and frowned. She was worried for her family back home, it was lucky that the shrine was not that far away from the station so she could just went straight to check on them but she would have to see what the others were going to do first. She turned toward the scene ahead of them after she had decided on her action as she kept her phone away.

"Please stand side." A few people wearing an almost black coat walked in front of the police and firemen, blocking them away with a yellow line, "In accordance with Article 404 of the Special Disaster Management Act, we are assuming command of this site."

"Article 404? What are you talking about?" One of the firemen ask in confusion before both parties started having an argument but was soon stopped by the policemen around.

Kagome turned away from the scene ahead of them to notice the sad look on Daichi and the older girl Io, "Maybe we should go find our family?" She suggested to the others what she had already plan for herself.

"I'm alright, my family had already evacuated along with Hibiki's family." Daichi told them although he was still worried and concerned about losing contact with his family because there were no signals.

"Kagome, what about Aunt Miyu and the rest of your family?" Hibiki turned to asked his younger cousin.

"I don't know but I intend to go check on them." Kagome replied with concern in her tone before turning to the other girl, "What about you? Did you manage to contact your family?"

"No one answer the phone." Io just shook her head with concern all over her face.

"Don't worry, we will go look for your family together." Daichi smile cheerfully, trying to cheer up the girls, "Right, Hibiki?" He slightly knocked his arm to the side of his friend.

"It's better and safer for us to stick together." Hibiki nodded and smiled slightly toward the girl.

"Thanks." Io nodded gratefully at them.

"Since it's already decide…" Kagome upcoming words was soon interrupted by an unfamiliar woman's voice.

"The four of you came from the subway, right?"

The four of them turned around toward the station to saw a short blue-haired woman wearing that black coat uniform walked toward them, they had noticed the policeman and fireman had let the others wearing the same uniform into the station which means the one asking them had some authority.

"Yes…?" Kagome replied with a confused look, she didn't know what would someone who didn't seem to be a police officer had anything to do with them.

"What's the situation down there?"

Daichi and Io couldn't help but pale and panicked a little as they recalled the situation inside the station, Kagome on the other hand was wondering on how they should explain the situation down the station without giving out about the whole demon summoning staff since no one knew if the woman would believed them or if she would think that they were the one summoning those beast man still in there.

"The train crash." Hibiki was the one replying with calmness, he just gave a short and simple answered.

"I am aware of the accident." The woman turned to Hibiki for a moment before turning back to the four with a stern expression, "Was there something else?"

"Something else…Um, people are dying inside..." Daichi sweat dropped as he looked at the others, hoping they were come up to an excuse so that they won't have to answer further.

The woman stared at them for a few minutes as if checking them for lying or not before she spoke up again, "Let's change the subject. I'll need to look at your phone." She was frowning now as she requested or more like demanded.

"Why do you need them?" Kagome was alert right away, she knew normal policemen won't check on their phone in situations like now and not to mention the older woman was not a policewoman at all so it was strange for her to ask them to hand out their phone.

"We need to check on something." The woman just replied without really answering Kagome's question.

"Isn't this situation bad?" Daichi muttered softly toward the two who were answering the older woman in front of them.

"Excuse me?" The woman turned toward Daichi, she seems to have caught the boy speaking about something.

"Sorry, we have to meet up with our family fast or else they will be worried about us." Kagome agreed with Daichi and instantly came up with an excuse, hoping the other three would get her hint to left now.

"Yeah, you are right!" Daichi had instantly took the hint and turn to his male friend, "Let's go Hibiki." He put an arm over Hibiki shoulder and dragged the guy along with him.

"I'm really sorry about that but we really have to go now." Excusing themselves in a polite way, Kagome grab onto Io's hand and drag the girl along with her to hurrying followed the two boys out of the crowd.

The four only stop after they were farther away from the station and out of the sight of the older woman as they were now resting their backs against the nearby wall.

"Phew! We got away from her!" Daichi was relieved to be away from the stern looking woman.

"Who do you think she was?" Io asked out everyone thought.

"Well, I can only tell she is someone with authority but certainly not a police officer by the look of her uniform." Kagome lightly shrugged, she was actually quite curious on who that older woman was too.

Hibiki on the other hand didn't know if the older woman was a good or bad person but he did know one thing, "She was suspicious."

"Yeah." Kagome nodded in agreement along with Daichi.

Daichi eyes suddenly light up when he suddenly remember something, "We hadn't properly introduce ourselves yet, right? I'm Shijima Daichi." He began to turn to Io to introduced himself.

"Oh, Nitta Io." Io was a bit startled by the sudden change of topic.

"I'm Higurashi Kagome." Kagome introduced herself with a smile.

"Kuze Hibiki." Hibiki simply state.

"We are cousins and I'm two years younger than him." Kagome added afterward.

"Well, since we had already introduced ourselves, we should decide on where to go next." Daichi state next when he remembers they still hadn't decided on their destination.

"Where do you live, Io?" Kagome turned to asked the older girl since she didn't knew where the other girl live.

"Ariake." Io simply replied.

"That's actually quite far away…" Daichi frowned slightly as he knew it would have taken them for about 30 minutes to reach Ariake by train but it was currently unusable so they would have to walk there by foot and he was already feeling tired just by thinking about it.

Kagome thought for a moment before she suggested, "If you don't mind, we should go to my home first." She did want to check out her family and since her house was closer to the station, they could go there first to get some items for their long journey to Ariake.

"Where do you live?" Daichi turn to Kagome, he only now remember that he didn't know where the younger girl live too.

"Higurashi Shrine."

"The shrine at the outskirts of Shibuya?" Daichi asked to confirm as he received a nod from Kagome.

"It's a wide-scale disaster so most likely vehicle will be unusable for a while, that mean we'll need supply like water and food for long distance travel. It will be best we stock up in my house first." Kagome explain on the reason she suggested going to her home first.

"Are you sure you want to come along with us to Ariake? You can just stay in your home with your family." Daichi was a bit surprised for Kagome to continued tagging along with them after they had walked her home.

"I want to know what had actually happened and it will be safer for us to stick together like Hibiki had state." Kagome won't tell them that she was actually worried about their safety since she doubt the station was the only place demons had shown up if they had guessed correctly that those demons had something to do with the app 'Nicaea'.

"What about your family?" Daichi continued to asked.

"They should be fine…" Kagome didn't want to have any negative thoughts about them already dead, she was sure they were still safe……Well, at least against demons since she had sensed a barrier around the shrine after her returned. She was unsure of how that barrier was up but she had a slight feeling that it might have something to do with the now completely sealed off well, there was no trace of magic coming from the well and from what she knew shrines usually were sacred ground.

"Well, let's go check on your family and stock up food and drink first than." Daichi smile trying to cheer up the younger girl without knowing what exactly on her mind.

The shrine was not really that far away but it would still take them sometimes to reach the place as the shrine was located on the outskirts of the city. After some walking, they end up stopping at a quiet corner of the street to get themselves some refreshments when they saw vending machines nearby.

"Ah, I feel much more refresh." Daichi happily sighed as he brought down the half-drink water bottle.

Kagome slightly shook her head before stating, "We should be reaching Higurashi shrine after a few more minutes of walking pass this shopping district." She than drink from her own water bottle that she took out from her bag.

Daichi just nodded while the other two either drink water or checking out the phone, they were all quietly sitting around to rest up for a moment until they heard a few people talking not far away.

"They look like they're in trouble, should we go see what's up?" Daichi turned from those people back to his companion.

"I think so…" Io agreed.

Kagome was about to say something when her miko power suddenly pick up on something, it felt almost the same as demon but much more stronger and a bit different. She began to look around with a frowned before her glazed end up at the blue sky and soon caught something unusual in the sky.

"Kagome, what are you looking…" Daichi stared at the younger girl who was looking around in caution, with confusion before following her glazed up to the sky, "Huh? What's that thing? Something is falling!?" He began to panic when he found a strange creature in the sky getting bigger and more clearer to his view.

"We have to leave!" Quickly put away her water bottle and place her bag back to her back, Kagome shout out toward the others just before the strange creature drop and land in the middle of the other group of people.

There in the middle of those people was a strange creature that looked similar to an ice cream cone, with pink round mass on top and rainbow cone on the bottom half that was disconnected from the above half as it kept spinning at various angles without affecting the alignment of the top half.

"What…" Io was startled by Kagome's sudden shouting and that strange creature dropping down from the sky before hearing a beeping sound coming from her phone she was holding onto and look down to see information of the strange creature on her phone, "Duhbe?" The other three turned to her only for a mere second.

"Huh?" One of the men in the other group said as he stared at the creature, he was just a step away from it, "What the hell is that?" He reached out his hand to touch it.

"Don't touch it!" Kagome quickly yelled out as she stared wearily at the strange creature, she had a really bad feeling about that creature as she could tell by close up that it was much stronger than those beast man demons they had seen in the station.

That man jumped back in surprised, "What? Don't scare me like that!" He turned to glared at Kagome as the others around him had also turned their attention toward the four teenagers.

"It's dangerous, you all should move away from there!" Kagome just continued with more anxious in her tone as she really doubted that creature would stay quiet for long.

"Why should…" The same man trailed off as he heard a sound from beside, he turned to see the pink mass of the creature expanding.

"What's going on?" The only woman of the other group nearest to the creature widen her eyes at the pink mass glowing in an orange light as if it was going to explode.

Kagome widen her eyes at what was going to happen next, "Run for it!" She exclaimed loud enough for everyone to hear as she prepared to run toward the nearest escape route since she doubted her barrier was strong enough to prevent the blow of an explosion.

"Ah!" Daichi exclaimed in panicked as he quickly turned to ran toward the nearest escape route following right behind by the others.

A loud explosion could be heard the next seconds they had escaped, they don't stop but continued running without looking back. Kagome on the other hand had paused when she heard the screaming of panic and fear, she turned around for a moment to see the strange creature was still there but the people around it was completely gone with only their ash leave behind on the ground where they had stood.

'I'm sorry that I can't do anything to save you all.' Kagome felt very bad for not being able to do anything to help those people, she also felt useless without a bow and was now regretting that she had not learned to use her purifying power directly.

It didn't take long for her to snap out of her thoughts when she saw another pink mass appeared out from within the rainbow spinning cone, it also seem that the creature had taken notice of her as she saw it moving toward her while firing some short of missile from the pink mass.

Kagome quickly put up a barrier around herself just before the missile hit onto the barrier and explode, smog was soon blocking her view because of the small explosion and she quickly took the chance to put down her barrier and turned around to run knowing she won't stand a chance without her weapon. She had to remind herself that she would be bringing her bow and arrows along with her when she gets back to the shrine.

All the time, she had not once noticed the absence of the others until she had stopped for the second time when she felt she was in a safe distance from the strange creature. She was starting to get worried for them but it was not smart to just ran around searching for them without any means of protection or anyway to know where they were, she would have to just went to the shrine like they had previously decided and hope that they were be there.

In the other area, Hibiki and Io had finally stopped after they found that they were in a safe distance away from the strange creature. They had only realized that they were the only one around when Hibiki began to check out the others condition.

"Are you..." Hibiki paused when he found only Io was with him, "Kagome? Daichi?" He began to look around and became worried when he didn't find them anywhere around.

"We've been split up since we escape from that thing?" Even Io was worried now and was beginning to feel lost, "What should we do now?"

"We'll go look for them." Hibiki said as calmly as he could, he was still worried but he didn't want the girl to start panicking since he knew everything that had happened so far was to much for them.

Just as they were about to leave, a beeping sound could be heard coming from their phones.

"A mail?" Io said in confusion as she took out her phone to saw it was a mail of a video sent from Nicaea.

Seeing that the mail was a video, Hibiki can't help but paused for a moment before he click the video to play it.

The video show Daichi staring fearfully at the demons appeared before him. One of the demons look almost normal with an appearance of a beautiful woman wearing a kimono with long sleeves that went past her hands. If not for the gentle smile from her followed by the two demons beside her coming toward him, he would had not realised the situation he was in but it was still too late for him. The beautiful woman froze him completely before the two demons shuttered the frozen ice Daichi with their claws.

"It's a death clip." Hibiki frowned, not liking one bit of what he had just seen.

Io's face pale at what she had seen and heard, "You mean Daichi is going to...die?"

Hibiki remind quiet as he didn't want to agree with the video coming truth, there must be things they could do to stop it, "It won't happen if we find him before he reach the location of the video."

Io's face brighten slightly and nodded, "Then we'll just have to look for him." She looks back down toward her phone to see if she could get any clue, "Doesn't it look like the Sensouji in Asakusa?"

Hibiki didn't really knew the place and just nodded, "Let's go." He instantly decided even though he was also worried for his cousin but Daichi was in a death situation if they didn't hurried so all he could hope was that Kagome would safely reach Higurashi Shrine and stay there until they came back for her or that they might meet up on their way to Sensouji as he rather doubted she would stay still if she had received the video too.

Shibuya, Higurashi Shrine

Kagome safely reached Higurashi Shrine within minutes, she had not seen the other on the way but she did notice that there were no other demons except that strange demon name Duhbe around the area so they should be fine. That's all she could only hope.

She shook her head at her concern to focus on searching for her family for now, she looks around to saw the shrine ground was not as messy or ruin as the other area. She quickly went to check out the house to notice it was still the same with some broken object but it was too quiet for her liking.

"Mom, Grandpa, Souta!" She look around the first floor to see no one was around, there was no response from the second floor either but she still went up to check on each of her family room just in case they were inside their room.

First she went to check on her mom and grandpa room to saw it was a little messy with some broken object but they were not inside before going to Souta's room to notice the unconscious body of her brother beside a fallen chair.

"Souta!" She instantly ran toward her brother to check on him, there were no injuries around him so the sudden fall on the floor from the earthquake must have knocked him unconscious.

"……Sis?" Souta slowly opened up his eyes at the sound of his sister calling her, his confused look quickly changed to a relieved look when he saw his sister's face right beside him as he tried to clear his sight.

"Are you alright?" Even though she had not seen any noticeable injuries on him, she still asked to made sure he was completely fine.

Souta just nodded as he sat up from the floor before widen his eyes at the slightly messy room, he had a moment wondering what had happened until he recalled the sudden shaking of floor when he was in the middle of playing his computer game.

"Ah, my game!" Souta shout out as he quickly turned back to his computer to see the screen was all black, "I was just about to finish off the final boss!"

"There is no time to talk about your game, Souta!" Kagome scold before she asked, "Where is mom and grandpa?"

"Don't you remember? Mom was taking Grandpa out for check up today." Souta replied before he finally noticed something was wrong with the serious look over her sister's face, "Is something wrong?"

"There was an earthquake, the phone and vehicle were currently unusable." Kagome told Souta the short version of what had happened since she didn't want to frighten her younger brother but she had a feeling he would be quite excited about it until he was either attacked by those demons or saw what they did to the others.

Souta widen his eyes at the sudden news, "Is mom and grandpa going to be alright?" He asked in concern and worried.

"They should be fine." Kagome was unsure of their mom and grandpa's safety but she tried not to show it, "I was going to wait for Hibiki and the others since we had somehow ended up separate but I think I should go look for them along with our mom and grandpa."

"I'll go with you." Souta instantly decided to tag along as he didn't want to be left alone in the house worried sick for his family.

Kagome was going to disagreed with Souta since the shrine grounds seem to be safe and fine but there was no way to know if demons would suddenly appeared nor could they contact each other without telephone signal so she might as well just bring him along with her. With her power and the weapon she was going to bring along with her, she should be able to protect herself and him from small group of demons attack.

"Alright but you will stick close to me." Kagome nodded before she state sternly, "I'll go pack us some drinks and food just in case since we'll be walking and I doubted there would be any shop open because of the earthquake."

"I'll help…" Souta was going to volunteer to help his sister with the packing when suddenly a ringtone was heard, "Is that coming from your phone?"

Kagome was confused too since there was supposed to be no signal around, she quickly took out her phone to confirm about the signal but she was surprised to see it was a mail sent from Nicaea and frowned.

"What is it?" Souta took a step closer as he intends to look at his sister's phone.

"Nothing." She quickly hide away her phone as she didn't want to look at the mail in front of her brother since she didn't know if it was those death clip or not like before, "Souta, I'm going to go check on which hospital Grandpa usually visit for his check up so can you help me pack some water and simple food like bread?"

"Sure." Souta had a question look on his face but still nodded and went out of his room to go gather the things his sister had asked him to.

Seeing Souta left the room, Kagome looked back down to her phone and open the mail to see what was it that was sent to her. It only took her a moment to grasped in horror as she saw the content of the mail was a death video of Daichi. She was afraid that Daichi was going to die soon because of the video but she noticed it was around sunset in the video so she should had time to stop it from happening. All she had to do was to find out what place the video was showing and reach there before sunset.

Here the end of the chapter, hope everyone enjoy this chapter too. The pairing of this story was still undecided but I rather like Yamato from Devil Survivor 2 so maybe I can pair him up with Kagome? I will be happy to see any suggestion on the pairing though. Anyway, I still don't know if any of the demon characters from Inuyasha would appear in the story or not since I really want to stick with using the demons from megami tensei series. The next chapter will show our favourite JP's chief Yamato but who do you think he would have met first since the cousins are seperate? Kagome or Hibiki? Will Kagome's unusual power amongst humans nowaday caught the attention of Yamato just like Hibiki had caught the attention of the chief in both the game and anime? You will have to stay tuned to find out.
