Chapter One: Aftershock

"Any luck so far?" Ben asks as Alexis is on the laptop in front on the couch.

"No. No luck sadly." Alexis says.

"Alexis we have to find him before they do. I still say we're being hunted." Ben says as he is pacing around the room.

"I know Ben. Chill. I'll find out where he lives. Just give me a bit." Alexis says.

"Sorry. I'm just worried." Ben says as Alexis continues looking on the computer.

"I know. I am too. For everyone. Wait. I think I found something." Alexis says.

"You did?" Ben asks as he comes over.

"Yeah. I think I know where he is too." Alexis says as she writes down what she found on a piece of paper.

"Good. Come on. We got no time to lose then." Ben says as he grabs his keys.

"Right." Alexis says before she and Ben leave.

*Timeskip*

"You're sure he'll be happy to see us? He hasn't exactly talked much to anyone since he came out here." Alexis says as she and Ben are walking toward a house.

"I'm positive. Besides he needs to know what's going on." Ben says.

"Yeah." Alexis says before Ben knocks on the door as Darius opens it and tries to stab Ben with a taser stick only for Alexis to catch it and stop him.

"Whoa! Watch it D!" Alexis says.

"Darius. You are home. Good." Ben says as he smiles.

"Ben? Alexis? I... What are you doing here? I'm never gonna get used to this." Darius says as he gestures to how much taller Ben now is compared to him.

'Yeah, me neither and he's my brother." Alexis says as she chuckles.

"It is so great to see you. Uh how's college?" Darius says as he lets Alexis and Ben in before Ben begins turning off lights and closing window blinds.

"Um actually I'm taking a little break. Hey would you look at this place? This is really... Wow great stuff man." Ben says nervously as he looks outside the window through the blinds.

"Uh thanks. Look.I know I haven't been in touch with you guys or well anyone lately but I..." Darius says nervously.

"I remember the view here's just... breathtaking." Ben says.

"It is when it's not the middle of the night." Darius says as he turns on some lights only for Ben to turn them back off.

"You get much rainfall?" Ben asks.

"Ben we've known each other for a long time and maybe it's time to tell me what you and Alexis are doing here." Darius says as Alexis and Ben look at each other.

"He's right Ben. He needs to know." Alexis says.

"Uh I kinda wanted to ease into it." Ben says.

"Yeah I'd say that ship has sailed." Darius says as Ben sighs.

"Right. Okay. Okay. Um... Here it goes. Try not to freak out. So that night that awful night that... The Allosaurus..." Ben says sadly.

"The Allosaurus! That's what this is about. You're tracking the Allosaurus too." Darius says excitedly as Alexis and Ben look at him.

"What? No Darius that's not..." Alexis says.

"I saw it today. I'm heading after it in the morning. You can come with me. We're gonna need more supplies. I almost had it. I was so close. I even called Brooklynn..." Darius says as he begins looking around his place as Alexis and Ben look at him curiously.

"Wait what?" Alexis asks confusedly.

"Darius... Brooklynn is dead." Ben says.

"I know. Of course I know that. It's just that... I guess her dads never deactivated her voicemail. So... Sometimes I call her. Just to hear her voice. To tell her stuff. To say I'm sorry." Darius says sadly as Alexis looks at him sadly.

"Darius you can't blame yourself for that. It hurt all of us when we found out." Alexis says.

"Yeah. It wasn't your fault." Ben says.

"We both know that isn't true. If I had met her that night like I said I would then she might..." Darius says sadly.

"No. That's why we're here. It wouldn't have mattered. Brooklynn's death was no accident. She was targeted. That Allosaurus..." Ben says.

"Is a wild animal Ben. A mindless killer. When I finally got there. When I saw... It was a random dinosaur attack. Happens way too often these days." Darius says sadly as he looks away.

"It wasn't random! There's too much coincidence. What was Brooklynn even doing there that night? She never told you did she? And how did she and the Allosaurus end up at the same place at the same time? How did the DPW truck respond so quickly? Why wasn't her phone recovered from the scene? Something's off. I've been reading some stuff on Dark Jurassic..." Ben says.

"Dark Jurassic? That website where all those randos share their weird dinosaur conspiracy theories?" Darius asks in surpise.

"That's the one. Don't worry I had the same reaction when he told me." Alexis says as Darius looks at her.

"We're actually an online community of like-minded individuals who..." Ben says.

"Ben!" Darius says annoyedly.

"Some of those theories are a lot more sane than you think. Come see. I was reading all about Allosaurus migration patterns and looking at leaked crime scene photos. Suddenly someone anonymously starts asking me if I was a member of the Nublar Seven. I figured it was a goof but then I started getting DMs, hostile DMs, asking why I was so interested in the night Brooklynn died. Look! See for yourself." Ben says as he brings up some stuff on a computer to reveal nothing is there.

"Ben there's nothing on there." Alexis says as Ben looks at the computer.

"What? They're not here. Someone must have deleted them. Alexis you believe me right?" Ben asks as he looks at Alexis.

"I believe something is going on yes but you never showed me the messages to be fair Ben." Alexis says as Darius puts his hand on Ben's shoulder.

"Look Ben. It's been tough on all of us since we got back." Darius says as Ben pushes him away.

"Don't patronize me Darius! Something is going on!" Ben shouts as he turns off the lights again.

"Why do you keep turning off the lights?" Darius asks.

"Because we're being hunted! Those messages I got? They were threats. Whoever killed Brooklynn is coming after the rest of us too. You, me, Yaz, Sammy, Kenji, Alexis. We're all in danger. We have to find out why and who's after us before it's too late." Ben says frustratedly.

"How do you know? Where's your proof?" Darius asks in disbelief.

"I... don't have any." Ben says in defeat.

"So you show up here, prank call me, then go on and on..." Darius says as he turns the lights back on.

"Darius what are you talking about?" Alexis asks.

"I didn't prank call you. I didn't call you at all." Ben says before the group hears a faint tapping and quickly looks over to the window and sees a raptor shadow outside as Darius quickly turns the lights back off.

"Raptors." Alexis says worriedly as the group backs away from the windows.

"Random dinosaur." Darius says.

"Why didn't your fence alarm go off? We closed the gate behind..." Ben says before Darius shushes him.

"If we stay quiet they'll just move on and..." Darius says before two raptors burst into the house and begin growling and roaring causing the group to begin running and trying to avoid being attacked before barely making it outside.

"Believe us now?" Alexis asks as she looks annoyedly at Darius.

"Okay there's definitely something going on." Darius says before Alexis covers his and Ben's mouths with her hands and shushes them before pointing as the group sees another raptor as it growls before roaring.
