Eddie woke up to an empty bed and a sudden case of nerves.
He wasn't in his room or his house but Steve Harrington's. They'd been casually dating for a few weeks now but this was the first night he had stayed over. Waking up alone didn't feel like a good omen. Eddie reached out to feel the other side of the bed, stone cold.
Did Steve wake up and regret the whole thing?
Did Eddie snore or something?
He groaned and shoved a pillow over his head.
After a couple of minutes of wallowing in self-pity, he sat up and grabbed his clothes. He wasn't going to hide away in Steve's room. He was going to go downstairs, grow a pair of balls and ask Steve if he wanted to be in a relationship. A real relationship.
Boyfriends.
Because kissing and sex were nice but Eddie wanted to date Steve. Hold his hand and share sweet kisses with no ulterior motive.
His train of thoughts was interrupted as a wonderful smell reached him. Curious, he followed it to the kitchen where he found Steve whistling to the quiet tune of the radio and standing over the stove. He was freshly showered, hair still damp and the food was almost finished.
Eddie realised with a jolt that none of his earlier thoughts was true. "Oh no," He groaned and Steve turned to look at him quizzically. "You're a morning person!"
"Is that a problem?" Steve grinned and came over to kiss him.
"I don't know... maybe?" He frowned when Steve laughed. "What?"
"You get so dramatic over the little things." His smile was too fond for Eddie to take offence. "I didn't wake you?"
"I sleep like the dead."
"Not quite dead," Steve replied softly, brow furrowing.
"I'm right here." Eddie hugged him tightly. "Sorry, bad word choice." Steve was sensitive about mortality jokes, not that Eddie could blame him after everything they'd been through. "I could be here... every morning... if you'd like?"
"What do you mean?"
"You know, like a boyfriend." Eddie shrugged and focused his attention on a button on Steve's shirt, started playing with it. "I could be your boyfriend if you'd be interested in that?"
"Eds," Steve laughed softly and kissed the top of his head. "You're already my boyfriend. We've been dating for almost a month."
"We haven't discussed it though."
"Okay." Steve cleared his throat and lifted Eddie's chin. "Eddie Munson, would you be my boyfriend? I'll make you breakfast every morning and come to your campaigns and... learn the lyrics to freaking DIO if that's what it takes. I just want you to be mine. So will you?"
"Yes." Eddie was too choked up to say more so he leaned in to kiss Steve instead.
Maybe morning people weren't so bad after all.
