Chapter 8: Batalia

Upon landing their ships on the Planet Batalia, the group is accosted by the Commando they saw on the Infobot.

Commando: At attention, you deserting maggots! The next time you soldiers go AWOL, I'll shoot you myself!

Ratchet: Look, I just want to…

Commando: Zip it worms! You see those bombers? If you don't get to the turrets and knock those ships outta the sky this whole planet's gonna be rubble! Meet me at the city entrance. (Walks away)

Clank: He needs our help!

Ratchet: Yeah, why don't you go help him…into another trap! Well…go on…go fight some evil.

Clank: (shakes his head) At least I am not a coward!

Ratchet: (scoffs) Whatever. As soon as I find Qwark I'm selling you for scrap.

Xoruxshy: (to IF) I really hope that Ratchet gets over this soon. I really don't want to have to resort to deactivating his weapons.

IF: (to Xoruxshy) Don't worry, I'm sure it won't get that far.

Immediately after venturing across the bridge separating the ships from the first area, they run into some new enemies: Scoutbots. These robots are similar to normal Scoutbots, only their singular eye lens has been replaced with a Heartless Emblem on the lens, surrounded by the classic yellow solid eye of a normal Heartless. The metallic stalk of the Scoutbot is now a pitch-black antenna. Ratchet takes these enemies out by sniping them with his Blaster. Seeing two paths to follow, the group decides to take the right path leading up a ramp. Reaching this end of this ramp, they find a huge grind rail section.

Xoruxshy: Hey, Ratchet. How about you use this grind rail to take some of the stress off of your mind?

Ratchet: That actually sounds like a good idea. I'll be back in a bit. I'll call you guys if I need anything.

(Literally five minutes later…)

IF's phone started ringing and of course, it was Ratchet.

Ratchet: Hey guys, I need you guys real quick.

(Once the girls reach Ratchet and Clank, they see Clank with his hands up in the air at gunpoint from a chubby soldier)

Deserter: Halt. Who are you? What're you doing?

Clank: We are on a mission to save the galaxy!

Ratchet: Speak for yourself. And put your hands down. You look ridiculous.

Deserter: Actually, I don't care who you are. I've gotta get the heck outta here. I joined the army to get money to go to college. I never knew I'd end up in a war. Go figure.

Clank: This is a noble cause, sir.

Deserter: Noble my hiney. I just want to get home to my family. Here… I pulled this off a busted robot. Gimme 2,000 bolts for bus fare and it's yours.

Xoruxshy: Here. (Sends 2,000 bolts to the Deserter's account) And if you still want to go to college, use this card to get passage to the Nexus Basilicom, and into Gamindustri. Go to Lastation, there's a college there, and they are accepting off-world students for free tuition.

Deserter: Really? Thanks a bunch. Good luck saving the galaxy or whatever. (Hands them the Infobot and dives into the ocean)

Infobot

Scientist: Greetings, Supreme Executive Chairman Drek. As you can see we're about to test our newest automated Pilot's Helmet. This helmet allows pilots to control our latest hi-tech fighters using only their thoughts. Please enjoy the demonstration. (The demonstration fails) Ooh, we still have a… a few minor adjustments to make.

Ratchet: Whoa! If they ever get the kinks worked out of that thing I have got to get me one of those.

Clank: If they are working for Chairman Drek they may know where he is.

Ratchet: Is that all you can think about? Drek this and Drek that. I've got my own problems.

Clank: If you cannot see the importance of this situation, you do have problems.

Ratchet: Yeah, well if you're so smart, how come you fell for Qwark's stupid trick?

Clank: (robotic sigh)

Ratchet: Ah, forget it. We both need to get to this planet and that's all that matters.

Upon using the teleporter, the group returns to the area before the grinding section, and takes the left path this time. Upon doing so however, they are immediately attacked by Blarg Paratroopers, robot Heartless with a purple-and-black armor scheme and the Heartless Emblem on the green core in the center of the enemies torso. Due to its far-reaching attack range, Ratchet uses the RYNO to take them out from a far enough distance to keep from getting hit. Once these Heartless are eliminated, they cross the bridge to the next area. Wall-jumping onto a nearby building, Ratchet obtains a Gold Bolt before they continue on. As they cross the next bridge, a passing ship blows up the platform beyond, so they have to balance on the remaining frame of the walkway into the next area. Here they run into Blarg Bombthrowers and more Scoutbots. Xoruxshy takes these enemies out with her newly upgraded Wartortle Blaster, destroying them before they carry on down the natural ramp. More Blarg Bombthrowers appear, and IF takes them out before they retreat back into the bushes, as well as some Scoutbots who come to investigate. Nearby is a Bolt Crank keeping the bridge closed. Ratchet cranks the bolt into place to move the bridge back into position. Heading back up towards the bridge, they see a Cannonball Tank, a tank that shoots out Cannonballs with gaping mouths with glowing eyes, similar to the Pirate Ship Gummi Heartless Cannonballs. This tank also has a purple color scheme with a Heartless Emblem on the front of the tank. Ratchet uses his Bomb Glove to dispose of it. As they crossed the bridge, they saw a Bolt Thief zoom out of the nearby building. Heading down after it through the nearby stream, Xoruxshy and IF immediately take out the waiting Blarg Paratroopers. Ratchet then takes out the nearby Cannonball Tank and Blarg Bombthrowers with the RYNO. This allows him to crank the two Bolt Cranks into place, letting the group move forward. Across this bridge, they find the Commando once again.

Commando: (points to a nearby Bolt Crank on the other side of a gap) Blasted thing, it won't budge. I've tried everything I know short of nuclear weaponry…hmmm…no, never mind.

Ratchet: Well, you tried. See ya.

Commando: Not so fast soldiers. You're going into that compound even if I have to throw you. (Looks around for a way in and notices a nearby ventilation shaft) Aha! That ventilation shaft leads to the turret platform. Soldiers, find a way to use that shaft to infiltrate that compound undetected.

Clank: Hmmm.

Commando: You've shown bravery by making it this far, soldiers, and for that I reward you. (Pulls out an Infobot) I intercepted this communique that you might find useful. Take it. I'm off to find my battalion. Good luck. (Walks away)

Infobot

Drek: Hello once again fellow Blarg, I hope this message finds you well! As many of you know, our home planet is no longer habitable. We've abandoned our factories, our laboratories and our happy lives because of the encroaching pollution, leaving much behind. Fortunately, the nearby planets will supply us with all we need to create our new home, which is nearing completion! Once our scientists locate the ideal orbit, our new world will be perfect! So reserve your space now, prime locations are filling up fast. Good day!

Clank: Now do you understand why we must stop him? He won't rest until he has destroyed every planet in the galaxy.

Ratchet: Yeah, well I got bigger fish to fry.

Clank: Bigger than the galaxy?

Ratchet: Well, different fish anyway. Look, didn't that Commando guy say we could get into that compound?

Clank: Yes. By using the ventilation shaft. But we will need something special to walk on that.

Ratchet: Fine, let's get going then. We'll come back later.

Xoruxshy: By the way, Ratchet, did that rail grinding session help relieve stress?

Ratchet: Yes, it did. But I'm still mad at Clank.

IF: That's understandable. Let's go ahead and discuss our next move.

Xoruxshy: We can either go to the Blarg Depot on Gaspar or the Kogor Refinery on Orxon. I suggest we go to the Blarg Depot, due to the toxic air on Orxon. It will kill us in seconds.

Ratchet: Then, Gaspar it is.
