Eddie watched Steve move down the long walkway between the kennels, stopping to peer in each one. The look of childish delight on his face made the hour trip worthwhile. "Oh, Eds, they're all so cute!"

"We can only take one, Steve."

"I know, I know." It had taken him months to convince Eddie to get a dog. He'd never been much of an animal person but Steve really wanted one so Eddie was willing to try. As long as it wasn't big, shed hair or hyperactive. "Don't forget we're meeting Robin later. We can't stay too long."

Steve ignored him and continued looking at the dogs. He finally stopped and grabbed Eddie's arm when he reached him. "Oh, Eds, look at this one."

It was a German Shepherd, snoozing in a patch of sunlight. Even Eddie had to admit it was nice looking. He picked up the info card next to the door. "His name's George, he's ten years old." He was also big and shed hair. Eddie knew it was too late though, Steve had already fallen in love. "You want him?"

"Yeah, he's perfect." Any misgivings Eddie had disappeared as Steve smiled at him.

A few hours and a ton of paperwork later they were the proud owners of George the German Shepherd. He was snoozing again on their living room floor and even Eddie had to admit he'd been a good choice. Steve was sat next to him, stroking through his fur and sending small whisps everywhere. It was worth it though to look at his smile.

"Hey, Eds, thank you." Eddie joined them on the floor. George looked up at him, sniffed his leg and then laid down again with a huff. "I think he likes you."

"He better after all the effort we went to." Eddie grinned as Steve slapped his thigh. He scratched George behind the ear, smiling as he cocked his head. "He is kinda cute."

"I knew you'd come around."

"Don't sound so smug."

Steve leaned over to kiss him. "Seriously, I know you're apprehensive about having a dog. I think George is the perfect introduction. It's not like he's going to tear the house apart."

"As long as he doesn't sleep on the bed. We're not having sex with him in the bedroom."

"Deal."
