"Eddie, you got a visitor!" He turned to look at Gareth questioningly, even more confused when he only smirked and jerked a thumb over his shoulder.
Behind him stood Steve Harrington, looking nervous and out of place in his pastel-coloured polo. Eddie set down his guitar and walked away from the stage entrance so they could talk somewhere more quiet. "Hey, I've only got a minute or two. What's up?"
"Nothing, just came to say good luck." Steve smiled and leaned back against a stack of boxes. "Being a good boyfriend."
"Really... Didn't think this was your scene?"
"It's not." Steve looked around and then quickly stepped into his personal space, kissing Eddie hard and fast. "Good luck."
Eddie didn't think he'd react so badly but he could feel his face burning. Steve just smiled at him and then nodded over his shoulder. "You better go, Gareth's waving for you."
"Are you gonna stay?"
"Of course! I'll see you out there." And with a wink, Steve disappeared.
Eddie hurried back to grab his guitar, ignoring Gareth's smirk. "We good to go?"
"Just waiting on you, dude. Didn't realise you'd been pulling recently."
"It's not like that."
"No?" Gareth mock questioned. "So Steve Harrington didn't just come backstage to kiss you and say good luck?"
"Fuck off."
Laughing, Gareth went on stage. Eddie took a deep breath and followed him. He found Steve immediately because he stood out against the normal crowd of drunks. He smiled as their eyes met and gave a little wave. Eddie grinned back, filled with a new confidence as the first song started.
He couldn't keep his eyes off Steve for the rest of the night.
