Eddie was freezing. The trailer's heating was broken again in the middle of winter, which meant he was going to die of hypothermia. Shivering, he pulled another blanket around his already impressive pile. The worst part was he was always cold and now it was unbearable. With Wayne gone for the night, there was nothing he could do but wait it out.
He made a mental note to save up for a portable heater.
Speaking of...
Eddie grabbed his blankets and shuffled to the phone, dialling Steve's number.
"Harrington Residence, this is Steve speaking."
"God that sounded painful. That always how you answer the phone?"
"Munson?" Steve perked up. "What's up?"
"Wanna come over and cuddle? I'm cold." Eddie froze, brain catching up with his mouth. "Didn't mean for it to sound like a come-on. My heating's broken and you're like a furnace so you know... help me out?"
"Chill, Eds," Steve chuckled. "I'll be there soon."
"Hurry." He groaned as he hung up, quickly curling up on the couch again. After an excruciating fifteen minutes - wherein his muscles started to ache because of the shivering - there was a knock at the door. "Come in!"
Steve walked in, the blast of cold air following him making Eddie's body wrack with a bad shiver. He hurried around the couch but paused, taking him in. "Jesus, Eds, that's a lot of blankets."
"Shut up and get in here."
Taking off his shoes and throwing his jacket aside, Steve found the edge of the blankets and scooted next to him. "I'm going to sweat."
"Just touch me and you'll be fine." Eddie immediately turned into Steve, pressing into his side. As he'd thought, Steve was toasty warm. Sighing happily, Eddie wrapped his arms around his middle. "That's better."
"You weren't kidding. You're like an iceberg."
"Guess that makes us perfect for each other, huh?" Slowly his body relaxed and Eddie found without that distraction he was super tired. He began nodding off on Steve's shoulder, jerking awake the first few times before yawning out, "I'm gonna fall asleep."
"Bed?"
"Definitely better than the couch." Steve helped him carry the blankets into his bedroom and they both got under the sheets. As he smoothed the blankets out on top, Eddie watched with sickening fondness. "Feel free to tell me to shut up but... are you doing this with platonic intentions?"
Steve finished and lay down, tugging Eddie with him. As they stared at the darkened ceiling, Eddie started to wish he'd kept his mouth shut. "No," Steve finally answered. "Is that a problem? Do you want me to go?"
"No." Eddie smiled, then realised Steve couldn't see him properly so rolled onto his side to face him. "Cards on the table, you're smoking hot and having you in my bed is causing all kinds of reactions."
"Good ones?"
"Depends on how you feel about it."
Steve found his face, thumb catching on his mouth before coming to rest at the corner of it. "Can I kiss you?"
Definitely good ones.
"Yeah." Steve's lips met his and the lingering cold was chased away with the sudden flood of warmth. Eddie wrapped an arm around Steve's neck to pull him closer, tilting his head and pulling a groan out of him. "That's it, you're staying every night."
"What about when your heater's fixed?"
"I'll break it and blame Max."
"That's not-" Steve's complaints were cut off as Eddie claimed his mouth again.
