Lips of an angel 2:
Mamoru took a swig of his coffee as he returned from his morning jog. The last three days felt like a blur to him. He remembered a call from Usagi, one he had replayed in his head over and over again to make sure he had heard it right. She had said she wanted him back and he, instead of playing the "we're better off not together" card had bared his soul to her.
After the call and finishing his shift he logged 12 hours of sleep for the first time in his life. He awoke with the belief Usagi was back in Japan and waiting for him. He spent the remainder of the day getting his affairs in order so he could return home.
The second day passed in a similar fashion. Making sure paperwork was processed, packing boxes of stuff for a mixture of donation and shipping overseas. The only change was he attended a going away party by the staff at the hospital.
Now, on the third day since the infamous call, he was beginning to wonder if he had imagined the whole thing. A phone call after his insanely long shift where Usagi called him, insisted she had broken up with Seiya, and wanted to get back together. It sounded far too good to be true. A living dream brought on by too little sleep.
Just as he shook his head again trying to dismiss this pleasant fever dream, he heard the sweet sound of a 'pyon' coming out of his phone. He immediately recognized it as the notification for when Usagi texted. Finishing his phone out of his pocket he began to read her message and text back.
Usagi: Hey, Mamo. Whatcha doing?
Mamoru: About to get breakfast. You?
Usagi: About to go live….please watch.
Mamoru smiled as he typed back: Gladly.
It was not hard to pull up Usagi's stream. After all, he followed her social media accounts and subscribed to her streaming channel. Pulling it up, he was greeted with the smiling face of Usagi wearing her signature headphones with the bunny ear attachments on them.
"Good evening and welcome to the burrow, this is your girl, MoonBunnie! How is everyone feeling today? Good I hope. I have a well…important update. I want to talk with you tonight. Okay so,...this may upset some people out there but…I want to get something off my chest. Something kinda happened recently. Me and idol-kun are no longer together. Yeah…I know. This is going to come off as a blow."
A half smile formed on Mamoru's face. From what Usagi was saying, Mamoru realized he hadn't been hallucinating the other night.
"No BunBunlover82, this is not because mommy and daddy don't love you any less," Usagi chuckled as she read the chat. "But I need to make sure I have someone who is going to be there for me and frankly, idol-kun hasn't been there for me like they used to be."
Mamoru propped his phone up on the table as he began to look in the kitchen to see if he had any leftovers from the party the other night.
"Am I going to get back together with Sensei-chan?"
"Sensei-chan?" Mamoru's eyebrow went up. He had tried to catch as much of Usagi's content as possible but she had become so popular and streamed for so many hours everyday to build her community it was hard to keep up with it all. He had no idea who this mysterious sensei-chan was.
"I may have called sensei-chan and talked with him but there is no guarantee of anything," Usagi waved off the idea but caused Mamoru to go wide as he realized he was sensei-chan. "What are you talking about GoddessOfLove? I don't talk about Sensei-chan that often. I…what the? Someone put together a 2 hour video of me mentioning him?"
Mamoru almost spit out his coffee as he struggled to react to this new information. "Two hours?" he asked aloud to no one in particular.
"No way this is real," Usagi announced as she opened the video off her screen. Her eyes went wide as she watched a few minutes of it. "Okay it's real. I suppose watching more will do little to defend myself."
Mamoru stared at the screen, unable to take his gaze off Usagi. The call the other day was true. She had been missing him. As for him…oh he couldn't deny it anymore. He missed her like crazy.
"Why is sensei-chan better than idol-kun?" Usagi asked, reading another comment from the chat. "Well, let's start with idol-kun….he was great and a lot of fun. He's just….he's not mine. He has duties elsewhere. To his band, his music, and you know everything that that entails."
Usagi paused for a moment, took a drink from a water bottle and continued. "As for sensei-chan, well he's diligent. He's kind but doesn't realize it himself. He's a rock who is always there when you need someone around to tell you everything is going to be alright. At the same time he needs someone to be his anchor and let him know it's okay to rest and he has done everything he could for the day. Will you marry me?"
Mamoru's eyes went wide as he wondered if Usagi was talking to him directly.
"Lol. Sorry, PeteyPete," Usagi chuckled, shaking her head. "There is only one person I will say yes to if they proposed on the spot. Maybe if he gets his butt in gear and gets back here we can have a long talk about where we are going to go moving forward."
Mamoru smiled as he finished some of the chicken from the party. Just as he was able to start packing again, a knock came at his apartment door. Mamoru opened the door to find his ex, Megan standing there. She was proof he had a type. Blond hair, blue eyes, and legs made to be in skirts. Of course these were where the similarity to Usagi ended. She didn't have a smile he'd fight the denizens of hell to see.
"Hey um, how are you?" Megan asked, flashing Mamoru a smokey smile. "I heard you finished your internship and are planning on heading back to Japan."
"Yeah, that's the plan." Mamoru replied, rubbing the back of his head. Megan had been the only person he had tried to have a relationship with since coming to America and trying to move on from Usagi. His breakup with her had been incredibly awkward, especially when she mentioned how he was saying Usagi's name in his sleep. He had gotten lost in his work and not dated anyone ever since. Mamoru hadn't planned to reach out to her before returning to Japan. "I think it's time to go home."
"Is there any way I could persuade you to…stick around?" Megan asked, as she began nibbling on her finger. Mamoru remembered it was her tell when they were in a relationship and signified she was up for anything physically.
Mamoru's entire body tensed up as he found himself drawn to Megan's cleavage. A primal need he had fought by burying himself in his internship was now bubbling to the surface. He licked his dry lips and felt his entire body burn at the thought of accepting Megan's offer. Just as Mamoru steaded himself with a deep breath, the sound of Usagi laughing at something in her chat brought him back to reality, and reminded who owned his heart.
"I'm sorry," Mamour replied, shaking his head. "But…I can't."
"Really?" Megan asked, arching an eyebrow. She could tell from Mamoru's tense shoulders he was tempted. "I heard from Sheryl at the hospital you haven't been seeing anyone else."
"No but…," Mamoru's eyes drifted over his shoulder towards where his phone was on the table and playing Usagi's stream. "I just can't."
"It's her isn't it?" Megan clicked her tongue and shook her head. "Your ex?"
"It..yeah..," Mamoru confirmed, nodding his head and shaking off the last bit of temptation of Megan's offer. "I think we're going to try again."
"Oh Mamoru," Megan sighed as she leaned in and kissed him on the cheek. She turned on her heel and started walking towards the elevator. "If you two don't work out this time, you better make sure the breakup sticks this time. Because frankly she has her claws in you deep."
"Yeah, I know she does," Mamoru agreed, watching Megan walk away. His eyes watched how her hips swayed as she stepped into the elevator and a small part of him considered running after her but he stood his ground, not wanting to do anything to jeopardize reconnecting with Usagi. "Goodbye Megan."
Megan pressed the down button and shot Mamoru an obscene gesture before the elevator doors closed. Running his hand through his hair, Mamoru closed the door to his apartment and walked back to where his phone was still propped up on the table. He picked it up and smiled at Usagi's image on the screen as she kept talking with her chat.
"Wait for me. I'm coming home," Mamoru promised as he put the phone back down on the table and began to pack up the last of his apartment, enjoying the sound of Usagi streaming as he worked. He was going home to Tokyo intent on having the meal she Usagi had suggested to talk about their relationship.
O.O.O
A/N: I didn't plan on making this story more than a one shot but some great scenes came to mind and well here we are. I think I may have one more part for this story. Just a little bit more cuteness. It will not be a full series. I have to focus on finishing Royal Affairs.
Reviews are love and they keep me going.
