Prologue: The Olympian Party
PERCY
Am I the only person that doesn't enjoy parties? I don't know if that's just me or others would feel the same. But hey, the party is okay I guess (shrug).
I tried to sneak out to try to avoid all the gods and goddesses (tried, but Hestia and Hades stopped me) Oh! Speaking of Hestia and Hades, remember when they said that they have a demigod to spoil? I thought they were joking.
Want to know what they did? No? To bad. Right as I was walking out they flashed in front of me and said "Where do you think you're going?" they said in unison.
I thought they were going to send me to the underworld for a second but they meant it in a jokingly way.
Sorry, I kinda trailed off, so back to the little story.
I responded by bowing and saying "What can I do for you, Lady Hestia, and Lord Hades?" I asked them. "Drop the formalities, Perseus. I just came to thank you, the underworld will never forget your deed." Hades said, I knew he was lying when he said "I just came to thank you."
"So as I Percy," Hestia said warmly. "You're welcome, Hestia and Lo-, Hades," I responded to the deities. "You mind if I ask you a question, Percy?" Hestia said. With all my intellect I responded to the eldest children of Kronos and Rhea by saying "Hm uh I don't mind."
"Me and my brother decided, the best way to reward is to patron you," Hestia said Happily. "Why? Just because I made you guys Olympians?" I questioned. "Perseus, being an Olympian is no little thing, yet you make it sound like it." Hades said in a confused voice.
"Oh uh sorry. Ok, may I ask what patron's do?", I was confused. "Hm, do you remember who patronized Odysseus?" Hades responded. "Uh, I think it was Athena or something, I don't know really."
"So do do you know how Odysseus became so smart?" Hades further questioned. "Nope," I said. "It was because of Athena patronizing him, I'm not saying he wasn't already smart. But what I'm trying to say is when a deity or deities patron a mortal they gain access to all the abilities their patron has, or gives,"
"This is how we want to help you, patronizing you will make you even more capable of protecting yourself and your loved ones, and isn't that what you want? To keep your loved ones safe." Hades said with a smile.
"Spot on champ!" I said in a comedic voice. "Percy Jackson, will you accept me and Lady Hestia be your patrons?" Hades said. It felt like I was about to sign a contract. But not in a bad way.
"I accept your patronship, Hestia, and Hades." I decided. "Thank you, Percy," Hestia said. Hestia and Hades outstretched their arms toward me, a warm orange beam of light and a gray, almost transparent , almost transparentbeam of light made contact with me.
It hurt like Tartarus.
After two and a half seconds later, the pain vanished.
I felt so many things. I felt like I connected to a part of me that I couldn't unlock until now. "This is-." I struggled to find words.
Hades slightly chuckled at my amazement.
"We have one more thing for you.." Hestia said. She proceeded to put a whistle around my neck.
So I asked the big one million dollar question. "What's it for?"
"Your aunt knows how much you love dogs, and I happen to have an extra hellhound lying around,"
I grinned ned at how well my aunt knew me. I always talked to her at the hearth when I had time, and when I wasn't in the middle of fighting Titans or Primordials.
"Blow your whistle, Percy," Hestia said. And I did as I was told, I blew the whistle.
All of a sudden a hellhound with eyes that looked as if the stars were inside of them shadow-traveled behind Hades.
It was small for a Hellhound.
Hestia read my expression and said, "This is not its full size, it has a collar that makes it the size of a normal dog." she ended my confusion.
"What's his name?"
"It's a she, her name is Asteria. Named after the Titaness of the stars. And to say the least, Asteria is a special breed of Hellhound, she hashigher durability, stamina, and speed." Hades corrected me.
"Thank you for the new pet, Aunt Hestia and Uncle Hades!" I sounded like a child who was given the best birthday present imaginable in the whole divine pantheon.
"Percy, how about we talk inside now? I want to inform you what powers you inherited from me. And I'm guessing you already know what powers you inherited from Hades." Hestia said. I think I already knew what abilities I gained from Hades. Why? Because I already knew Death Breath's abilities.
PERCY
I started to walk inside, and began to hear the familiar loud music of the nine Muses. We found a table near the left bottom corner. "Percy, how about we be quick about this, we don't want to waste most of the party don't we?" Hestia asked.
"It seems you have inherited all my abilities. You gained the ability of sanctuary (1), you can make any place a sanctuary as long you burn the symbol of the hearth in it. You will be able to regulate it. There is a limit to this, the limit is up to three sanctuaries."
"You gained the ability of fooning, and yes that is the name of it, it is the ability to make homemade food appear out of thin air. You have also inherited pyrokinesis, the ability to create, and manipulate fire,"
"And as you know the hearth has the ability to hurt or heal. You can heal others and yourself. And if you're wondering Percy, yes you are immune to fire but you can't jump into a pit of lava." Hestia said. "Percy, remember this, The hearth has the power to bring and take hope from the hearts of all."
"I'll remember, I promise." I was disappointed that I couldn't jump into a pit of lava. But it wasn't like I was going to anyway (sarcastic eye roll).
"Well, that's a handful." I was wondering if I could possibly unlock semi-element powers using my abilities.
"I'm afraid I have to go Percy. Enjoy the rest of your time." Hestia said goodbye.
"Bye Aunt Hestia." I smiled warmly at her.
ANNABETH
How hard could it be to find your boyfriend? Nearly impossible. I was looking for seaweed brain everywhere until I found him at a table with Hestia. It looked like they were already in a conversation. So I decided to wait.
Two minutes later he finally got up.
I walked up to him and said "Hey seaweed brain!" And gave a quick peck on the lips. For some reason, he smelled like fresh brownies. So I decided to confront him about it. "Hey Percy, why do you smell like brownies?"
"Uh, I'll tell you later."
I raised an eyebrow and said "ok?"
"Come on, follow me. I want to talk to you about some stuffwant to talk to you." Annabeth leads Percy to the garden.
"Percy, what do you want to do since the war is over?" Annabeth asked. "Spend time with my friends, and you." Percy cheekily said with a grin. "Haha, but seriously what do you want to do?" Annabeth further questioned. "Oh, uhm the only thing I planned is to finish high school and go to New Rome University with you," Percy admitted.
"I planned to do the same thing, and I want to do it with you." I grinned at the Son of the Earthshaker. "But you're not getting away that easily from my question. Why do you smell like brownies?" The reason why I was pressing him was because all demigods have a unique scent depending on what their godly parent was, and Percy usually smelled like a salt-water lake.
"Oh uh yeah. I had a chat with Hestia and Hades outside, and they asked if they could patron me." Percy said nervously. I raised an eyebrow once again. It was unusual for a demigod to gain the favoritism of a god, but two? Hestia and Hades may not be seem like as powerful gods on Olympus but they had the most raw power being the eldest children of Kronos and Rhea.
"Why?" I questioned. "Um, I think it was because I made them Olympians," Percy said. Being an Olympian God (or) Goddess was no tiny biggie.
"and they also gave me a dog," Percy said cheerfully.
Percy blew his whistle and a Hellhound appeared out of a shadow. Instinctively I drew my drakon bone sword. "Hold on! He's, I mean she's friendly!" Seaweed Brain exclaimed.
I hesitantly put my sword back into its holster as the Hellhound walked up to Percy. The Hellhound nuzzled Percy's leg.
"Hestia and Hades gave me her." Percy looked at the Hellhound affectionately. "What's her name?" I asked. "Her name is Asteria." I could see why she was named after the Titaness of the stars.
She had eyes that reassembled the stars.
"Alright, any more surprises?" I said. "Nope." Percy popped out the 'P'. "Hm, it looks like Ms. O'Leary has a new playmate." I chuckled.
I think I liked that Hestia was Percy's patron now, Percy gained an aura that calmed people, and me.
PERCY
"It looks like the party is almost over." Annabeth said. "Yeah, we should probably get back to Camp Half-Blood and see how everything is doing," I suggested. The seven, (or six, since Leo died) Nico, and Reyna were probably at Camp Half-Blood already, organizing the camps.
"Hey, Asteria can you shadow-travel us to Camp Half-Blood?" I didn't expect her to know where camp was but it was worth asking. "Sure why not." Astersia sai- barked. I jumped out of surprise-ment. I didn't expect to understand Hellhounds all of a sudden. I probably gained that from Hades (2). I sighed out loud.
"Ok sounds good," I told her, getting out of my surprise-ment.
Just like that, we were shadow-traveled to Camp Half-Blood. I probably should of shadow traveled myself, but I didn't want to end up in China. "Thanks" I thanked my Hellhound.
I wanted to see if I could try to summon food so I willed a steak for Asteria.
A steak appeared.
'It actually worked!' I thought to myself excitedly. Asteria snatched the piece of meat and gobbled it down.
Later when we were walking around, some of the legionnaires got scared of the Hellhound but others thought it was cute.
I looked for my friends and bumped into Frank who was with Hazel and Reyna. For some reason, Hazel was wearing a Praetor's cloak and badge. Then it clicked. I remembered Reyna was promoted to Consul, which left the spot for Praetor open.
I decided to not ask why Hazel was wearing a Praetor's cloak because the answer was already answered by my logic.
"Oh, hey Frank, Hazel, and Reyna!" I greeted them. "Hi Percy!" Hazel said Jolly. Hazel was like my little sister. "What's up Captain salt water?" Frank asked. "Great, how about you?" I said. "Good." Frank said nonchalantly. "Hey, for like two hours." Reyna joked. "Hey! that wasn't even fair, I had a quest to do. I'm still technically Praeto- (3). Woah!" Reyna was inspecting an imperial gold spear and sword that was crackling with electricity. It was like the Legion's Eagle standard if it was a spear and sword. (4)
"Where do you get that?" I asked in amazement. "Jupiter gifted it to me when I got promoted to Consul. The last person who owned these two was Consul Gaius Marius."
I heard of the famous Consul from Annabeth one time when she was talking about Roman Generals.
"Gaius Marius was a child of Bellona like me, and got the weapons from our mother after a major victory. But was given to Jupiter as an offering." Reyna said.
"That's so cool." I said in ahw.
Reyna laughed.
"So, Consul Reyna Avila Ramirez Arellano, how is the rank treating you?" I got smacked on the head by Reyna for saying her full name. "Good, and don't every say my full name ever again, son of Neptune." Reyna said half playfully and serious. "Poseidon." I corrected her. "You're the half-son of Neptune, Percy." Reyna sighed at my ignorance.
I tried to retort but no words came out of my mouth. "Hah, bozo." Reyna said triumphantly.
"Whatever." I rolled my eyes.
